Oracle + SSL + Applets

I have setup a connection that works fine without SSL, the client connects to the firewall which has Apache running as a reverse proxy. Clients gets "tunneled" to OAS and all works fine.
When I activate SSL and after the exchange of certificates, client still gets to the main page of OAS, downloads the html, the graphic but no petition is made for the applet.
The client just stops.
An extract of the relevant HTML
pluginurl="jinit115211.exe" type="application/x-jinit-applet;version=1.1.5.21.1"
code="oracle.forms.uiClient.v1_4.engine.Main"
codebase="/OA_JAVA/" archive="/OA_JAVA/oracle/apps/fnd/jar/fndewt.jar, /OA_JAVA/oracle/apps/fnd/jar/fndforms.jar, /OA_JAVA/oracle/apps/fnd/jar/fndaol.jar,
None of this .jar are downloaded using SSL, everything works fine without SSL.
Any hint?

Sorry , I just talked with Oracle Support, JInitiator won't work with SSL, they told me I need to upgrade some Oracle products to work with HTTPS.

  • How to change the parameter's value of Oracle Forms Applet?

    Hello,
    I'm working with Oracle Forms 10.1.2.3.0 and JRE 1.6.0_14, we got some performance issues and we think are related with Java, so we enabled Java trace and we realized that every time user moves the cursor from one item to another, the applet sends a request to the server. This is the request.
    network: Connecting http://server/forms/lservlet;jsessionid=e53bb50b2f95ecb357451bf21a291367cc1747d2d9956b3ba1c4a05916d87d34.e34LaheTahaLai0LaxyLbN4ObxqTe6fznA5Pp7ftolbGmkTy with proxy=DIRECT
    I want to disable these connections as Sun states that sometimes they are not needed (not sure if this is the case but we want to test it).
    I got a possible answer from a Sun forum, the possible fix is to set the following property to false:
    <APPLET ...>
    <PARAM name="codebase_lookup" value="false">

    But I don't know how to pass that parameter to Oracle Forms applet.
    Does anybody know?
    Thanks.

    You can try passing the parameter in the HTML template file ... for example in the $ORACLE_HOME/forms/server/basejpi.htm
    i.e.

  • Oracle SSL or Third Party

    We are in the process of implementing an online store using OAS (10g Rel 2) and Oracle Forms (10gRel2) application that we built from the ground up.
    We are curious to know wha is most widely used/accepted in this scenario: Oracle SSL, which the user/customer must trust us, or using a thrid party's SSL like VeriSign? We will be processing Credit Cards.
    Any advice or shared experience would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Mika

    Oracle's SSL implementation, like any other SSL implementation, accepts any complaint Private Key and Certificate chain. You can buy a certificate for your private key from any certification authority. With CACert.org you even have a free one.
    But remember, SSL only secures the transport level between two hosts, everything might be open. Using SSL is a basic requirement for a secure environment, but doesn't make your environment secure.

  • So I can update my Oracle Java Applet Plug-in to Development Kit 7, Update 65, can you link me to the correct Oracle download page from your Plugin Update page?

    When I periodically accessed your Plugin Check and Updates web page in the past, I really appreciated you connecting me to the correct Plugin Updates vendor web page when I clicked on your red Update Now button. This time, however, your Java Applet Plug-in "Update Now" button linked me to the Oracle Java "7u65 Updates Release Notes" instead of the usual download page. It seems rather unexpected for me, or any other conscientious user for that matter, to search the appropriate "JDK 7U65" file download from the Oracle website.
    Thank you,

    This is getting way too complicated for normal peop.
    First: the "Update Plugin" does not work, it goes to a page with all sort of computer jargon but no "Update button" anywhere.
    Second: this forum jscher2000 gives a good solution, but I downloaded the incorrect java update, because my computer is 64 bit. how am I supposed to know my browser is what it refers to and that FF is 32 bit.....???$%^&*()??
    Third: some of those "critical update" software are not even on my computer....well at least I don't think it is, I search for "shockwave" and did not find it.
    I love Moz FF but the updating is starting to get out of control. why give us (computer idiot) an auto recommendation update not tailored to our computer? Perhaps in big letters at the top there should be an explanation "this is general suggestion these plugin needs updating, not to tailored with your computer, do your own research"
    and/or add info I need to know like the 32 bit thing, took me forever to download the 64bit update for JAVA and it was the wrong one.
    Now I am just afraid to update anything for FF because it is too darn confusing.

  • How to change the codebase_lookup Parameter in Oracle's Applet?

    Hi,
    We are using Oracle 10.1.2.3.0 AS, and we have some performance issues when running the applet. I turned on the Java trace and I saw that every time the user moves the cursor from one item to another, the application sends a request to the server, here is an example of that request:
    network: Connecting http://prodserver/forms/lservlet;jsessionid=59cf1d233d52f219811fb1e7321d40b64b882bde5e6b1ac384bc0e7f0802fdd1.e34Ra38Pb3uLbi0QaxaNahaKb310n6jAmljGr5XDqQLvpAe with proxy=DIRECT
    Looking on the WEB I found out that this kind of requests can be disabled by changing Applet's codebase_lookup property. (http://java.sun.com/javase/6/docs/technotes/guides/plugin/developer_guide/special_attributes.html)
    I've changed the formsweb.cfg and basejini.htm in order to add this parameter, but it didn't work.
    Does anybody know where can I change the value of this parameter?

  • RMI w/ SSL Applet

    I'm trying to create an applet that will communicate via RMI/SSL. I tried the sample HelloWorld program in the JSSE Examples as well as implementing it in my own applet but I can't get past the "unable to find valid certification path to requested target." error, which seems to mean that the client doesnt have the required certificate from what I can gather via google anyway.
    How do I get the client to accept this certificate via an applet? Can I bundle it with the .jar file? Am I going to have to manually send a certificate to anyone who wants to use this applet? Is this possible to do w/o a command line interface of some kind?
    I'm a bit lost here. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi.
    The security policy in effect is the one installed
    by the applet container (the browser, the appletviewer,
    etc.). You cannot change the security policy in an
    applet. You may try to set a weaker security policy in
    your applet container, but I doubt any reasonable
    browser will let you set the RMI hostname. After
    all, applets are allowed to connect their codebase
    only.
    Have fun,

  • Help needed to access Oracle from Applet.

    Please help. I have spent days reading info on the web and I simply cannot access to Oracle from an applet to work. Oracle is on a different IP than the Web Server. For my testing I am running the html directly from my local file system.
    Here are the steps I have taken:
    1. Create a key: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -genkey -alias MyAlias -keypass MyKPass -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass
    2. Sign my jar: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass -keypass MyKPass -signedjar myjar-signed.jar myjar.jar MyAlias
    3. Sign Oracle's Jar: "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -keystore C:\Keys.bin -storepass MySPass -keypass MyKPass -signedjar ojdbc14-signed.jar ojdbc14.jar MyAlias
    4. Applet Tag (at this time I have the two jars in the same folder as the HTML and JS files):
        <applet id="MyApp"
      codebase=""
      archive="myjar-signed.jar,ojdbc14-signed.jar"
      code="com/company/applets/Test.class"
      mayscript
      width="50" height="50">
        </applet>5. Javascript:
      document.observe("dom:loaded", function() {
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion());
      $('MyApp').getConnection(url, user, pswd);
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion() + "Got Connection.");
      $('MyApp').testConnection();
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').getVersion() + "Connection Tested.");
    });Execution:
    1. The applet loads, The browser asks if I want to trust it, I say yes.
    2. The '$('MyApp').getVersion()' works.
    3. The '$('MyApp').getConnection(url, user, pswd);' fails. Java Code:
      public void getConnection(String url, String user, String pswd)
          throws Exception {
        try {
          System.out.println("Driver...");
          DriverManager.registerDriver(new oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver());
          System.out.println("Connection...");
          _conn = DriverManager.getConnection(url, user, pswd);
          ...The driver registers, but the getConnection fails with a security error.
    After much reading, I used policytool to update the policy file. It added:
    keystore "file:/C:/Keys.bin", "jks";
    grant signedBy "MyAlias" {
      permission java.security.AllPermission;
    };This did not make any difference. Both IE and FF get the same error.
    The JRE being used is 1.6.0_14.
    Any help solving this would be MUCH appreciated.
    Thanks.

    I have simplified the problem, and now it has nothing to do with Oracle. It is a certificate/signing problem.
    Here are the steps I took to set the test up:
    Certificate:
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -genkey -storepass MyStorePswd -keyalg RSA -alias MyRsa -dname "CN=Company.com, OU=IT, O=Company Inc, L=Atlanta, ST=Georgia, C=US, DC=mailexpress, DC=com" -validity 999
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -selfcert -storepass MyStorePswd -alias MyRsa -validity 999
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -exportcert -storepass MyStorePswd -alias MyRsa -rfc -file MyRsa.cer
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/keytool" -importcert -keystore "C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\lib\security\cacerts." -storepass changeit -alias MyRsa -file MyRsa.cer
    Jar Signing:
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -storepass MyStorePswd -keypass MyStorePswd -signedjar Text-Project-signed.jar Text-Project.jar MyRsa
    "%JAVA_HOME%/bin/jarsigner" -verify Text-Project-signed.jar
    Result: jar verified.
    HTML:
        <applet id="MyApp"
                codebase="file:/c:/projects/Text-Project/js/Memory"
                archive="Text-Project.jar"           <== unsigned test  OR
                archive="Text-Project-signed.jar"    <== signed   test
                code="com/company/applets/MemTest.class"
                mayscript
                width="50" height="50">
        </applet>
    JavaScript:
    document.observe("dom:loaded", function() {
      alert("Applet: " + $('MyApp').checkSecurity());
    Function in the Applet:
      public String checkSecurity() {
        System.out.println("Security Check...");
        try {

  • It looks Oracle Form/Applet  die hard versus J2EE Servlet/JSP/JSF  & AJAX

    I left the form forum for a while and am busy with transfering our Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application (just because the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control.). After a year or so on J2EE which I enjoyed the fresh OO coding while keep enhancing Oracle webform app in production, I have some thought on Applet vs J2EE JSP/JSF plus AJAX.
    1) JSP itself is hard to avoid the full screen refreshing even though user just does partial changes ,e.g., lists, on the screen, it has to use AJAX to do the tricks. While partial refreshing in applet is natural default behavior.
    2) Forms is really an RAD, while J2EE's IDEs does help a bit(IBM's Websphere v6 even called iRAD) which takes way longer programming time compared to Forms. One IBM's article says it trys to win the Oracle Forms developers by giving the familiar graphical way of drag/drop GUI, so IBM recognizes the RAD coding power of Oracle Forms. So, IBM promotes the RAD similar to Oracle Forms.
    3) GUI/business rules related validation: Applet offered a great advantage over JSP/ even JSF which to avoid the full screen refresh, AJAX/JavaScript is used heavily. User friendly interaction of applet is way better than J2EE.
    4) Browser's back/refresh buttons also are headache to J2EE, expecially we need to support IE and Firefox. Applet basically is not bothered by these buttons.
    Recently, I read techi news said that the new chips will make the network transfer speed 10 time faster than now-even the cell phone transfer the image will be way faster. Then I predict the applet, just like IBM's mainframe, will see its Spring again, not like now in its winter. Especially the Oracle Forms makes coding easier than pure applet coding.
    Oracle folks, kepp beefing up the Oracle Forms, don't just pay attention to JDev. J2EE IDE, most of all, remove the Oracle EE ASxx block, be open. Oracle EE ASxx is really not a pretty baby, even though so Oracle thinks it is.

    1) Why we are transfering your Oracle web forms app to Struts based J2EE application?
    Since our corporate is IBM world-DB2/UDB, WebSphere AS (WAS) etc. It only allows Oracle Forms/reports servers to be compatible with the infrastructure. It does not allow to purchase another EE app server(espeically LDAP). We could not upgrade our forms/reports6i to 9i or 10g.
    2.Therefore the Oracle EE AS is the moving cause, it's out of my control because I did my best to talk to Oracle sales, but no avail. I am glad that I got a good chance to beef up my J2EE Struts skills.
    If extract out the forms/report9i/10g engines from the Oracle EE AS 9i/10g, (don't attempt to bundle sell the EE AS to customers-regardless of the shrinked 9.0.4 forms/reports services version, it's still another EE AS) and make them compatible with other ASs(espcially the LDAP), then Oracle Forms will have more customers.

  • Connect db oracle with applet

    WHY?

    Hi,
    You should avoid connecting to a database from an applet. The applet should instead connect to a server process, which has a database connetion (or a pool of connections)

  • Deployment files for IIOP/SSL applets against 8i

    I was reading 8i's docs on SSL authentication with IIOP clients.
    I am particularly interested in deployment issues with regards to
    java applets (e.g.: what JAR files and others needs to be
    installed on the client machine).
    The 8i EJB/CORBA doc mentioned that you need vbj30ssl.jar
    installed on the cleint for the applet to communicate via
    IIOP/SSL.
    Then, on the other hand, reading OAS 4.0.7 documentation, it
    mentioned that for clients to communicate via IIOP/SLL to OAS,
    the following files are needed:
    * vbjorb.jar (for basic IIOP)
    * vbj30ssl.jar (for IIOP/SSL)
    ... and the following files for win clients:
    * vbj30ssl.dll for Win/Netscape
    * vbmissl.dll for Win/IE
    Since 8i and OAS basically use the same ORB (Visibroker) and the
    same version of SSL and visibrokker version, I am confused as to
    what are really needed on the client side.
    My questions are:
    1) Do the windows client browsers REALLY need vbj30ssl.dll and
    vbmissl.dll for IIOP/SSL to work??? Neither of these DLLs are
    mentioned in 8i doc nor with JDeveloper doc, only in OAS doc.
    2) If these DLLs are needed, they are not included with
    JDeveloper nor with OAS anyway. Meaning I have to buy the
    visibroker SSL pack (version 3.2).
    3) Has anyone done work with applets talking via IIOP/SSL to
    OAS/8i?
    4) I am concerned about how to make the client talk via IIOP in
    the first place, since applets cannot talk to another machine
    except from where it was downloaded (I am planning on 8i and
    Apache on separate machines). Our network guys mentioned that all
    we need is a proxy server so that, as far as the applet is
    concerned, it is talking to the same host as where it was

    the 8i host.

    Jesus,
    I'm not sure about the client-DLL item you mentioned in your
    original note.
    For applets, you need to deploy everything that is required by
    the applet at design-time. In your JDeveloper project where you
    have designed the applet, check Project Properties to view the
    list of libraries that were used by the project.
    To find out what archives make up that library, click the
    Libraries button. Select the library you want to look at, and
    it's source archives or directory paths will be listed in the
    Classpath field. Note that some libraries are made up of more
    than one archive.
    If your applet compiles and runs within JDeveloper, then you need
    to make sure that everything your applet has access to within
    JDeveloper is also available at runtime.
    This is probably a little more reliable a method than relying on
    the docs.

    As suggested you should use a oracle jdbc driver type 2 (JDBC OCI Driver) or 4 (JDBC Thin Driver).
    Because the thin driver is written entirely in Java, is platform-independent. It does not require any
    additional Oracle software on the client side. It can be used for Oracle JDBC applets or applications.
    The OCI driver is targeted for client-server Java applications. It requires an Oracle client installation, so it is Oracle platform-specific and it is not suitable for applets.
    To connect to a database using those drivers here you have two examples of establishing a connection:
    For OCI driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:oci8:@<dbName>","user","password");
    For thin driver:
    Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:oracle:thin:@<host>:<port>:<dbName>", "user", "password");
    And make sure that the classes12.zip file is included in your CLASSPATH.

    Database 11gR2 also on Win Xp pro SP3
    Hi
    I have a problem with java and Jinitiator and my understanding of what is / should be happening.
    In the file forms/server/formsweb.cfg see below. I can alter the parameter
    baseHTMLjinitiator=basejini.htm
    ###baseHTMLjinitiator=basejpi.htm
    between the two alternatives. As it stands as shown the IE8 on the middle tier and on the database PC both work as near correctly as i can tell. On the Win 7 client IE 8 however crashes. switch it to the other way around and the
    win 7 works and the win xp on the database server stops with frm-92095 error version number too low. while on the middle tier Xp PC a blank doucument is displayed.
    How can i have both working at the same time please. I you need more information i will happily supply it.

    # formsweb.cfg defines parameter values used by the FormsServlet (frmservlet)
    # This section defines the Default settings. Any of them may be overridden in the
    # following Named Configuration sections. If they are not overridden, then the
    # values here will be used.
    # The default settings comprise two types of parameters: System parameters,
    # which cannot be overridden in the URL, and User Parameters, which can.
    # Parameters which are not marked as System parameters are User parameters.
    # SYSTEM PARAMETERS
    # These have fixed names and give information required by the Forms
    # Servlet in order to function. They cannot be specified in the URL query
    # string. But they can be overridden in a named configuration (see below).
    # Some parameters specify file names: if the full path is not given,
    # they are assumed to be in the same directory as this file. If a path
    # is given, then it should be a physical path, not a URL.
    # USER PARAMETERS
    # These match variables (e.g. %form%) in the baseHTML file. Their values
    # may be overridden by specifying them in the URL query string
    # (e.g. "http://myhost.mydomain.com/forms/frmservlet?form=myform&width=700")
    # or by overriding them in a specific, named configuration (see below)

    You have a mixture of problems here.
    1. Oracle Jinitiator is not supported for use on Windows 7
    2. JRE 1.7 is not supported for use with any version of Forms on any platform. Be sure you do not have this version installed.
    3. JRE 1.6 is not supported for use with Forms 10.1.2.0.2, however is supported with 10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622) and only with IE 8
    4. In order to use Win 7 with Forms 10 in a certified and supported manner, you must use 10.1.2.3 (meaning 10.1.2.0.2 + patch ID 5983622).
    In short, my recommendation would be the following:
    o Patch to 10.1.2.3 (assuming you have access to MyOracleSupport)
    o Don't bother trying to use Oracle Jinitiator as it is old and has been desupported for a long time.
    o Uninstall any instances of Jinitiator as it can cause conflicts with other JRE installations.
    o Uninstall all instances of JRE 1.7. Reconfig your formsweb.cfg to use the JRE (Java Plugin) 1.6.0

  • In oracle Open Script (OATS) OracleEBS/Forms project all the elements or fields are being identified as web objects.

    In oracle Open Script (OATS), we have created an OracleEBS/Forms project. But when we try to record the script all the elements or fields are being identified as web objects. Due to this we are unable to use the functions like getText. Hence, please help.
    Example: The below line when executed gives an error " Failed to connect to the Oracle Forms applet after 90 seconds. Verify that the applet launching page opens, and that the Forms Startup Timeout setting is high enough for this site."
    forms.textField("/web:window[@index='0' or @title='Person']/web:document[@index='7' or @name='tabPage']/web:input_text[@id='PER_ID' or @name='PER_ID' or @index='0']").getText();
    We have already set the event timeouts in OpenScript Preferences -> Playback -> OracleEBS/Forms Functional as
    Forms startup time out = 90Sec
    Forms Action timeout = 120Sec
    Forms Response Timeout = 120 Sec.
    OpenScript
    Version: 12.4.0.1 Build 139

    If it is a name resolution I would try either replacing the server name in the script with the IP address or making an entry in the local host file of the machine trying to play back the script
    If you try one or both of those approaches does the script play back?
