Oracle Temporary/Memory table

Hi Friends,
Can oracle provides any facility that we can create temporary table in memory? Pls provides me idea about it.

TopLink, use of Oracle Temporary tables

A project using TopLink has the following questions. Could someone help answer them?
Does TopLink support the use of Oracle Temporary tables?
Is there any recommendation regarding the two possible ways of setting them up, see below:
ON COMMIT Setting Description DELETE ROWS This creates a temporary table that is transaction specific. A session becomes bound to the temporary table with a transactions first insert into the table. The binding goes away at the end of the transaction. The database truncates the table (delete all rows) after each commit.
PRESERVE ROWS This creates a temporary table that is session specific. A session gets bound to the temporary table with the first insert into the table in the session. This binding goes away at the end of the session or by issuing a TRUNCATE of the table in the session. The database truncates the table when you terminate the session.

Haiwei,
TopLink has no explicit support for temporary tables but it should be possible. It is tough to answer your question since it really depends upon connection and transaction management for either case. What is your planned configuration TopLink with respect to external versus internal connection pooling as well as the JTA TX management.
I believe you are deploying your applications within WebSphere but would just like to confirm that you are using WAS data sources and transaction management.

Oracle temporary tables

Hi ,
we have a application for transfering data approx 1 million records from one schema to another. the data is first inserted into a table temporarily and after all the data is transfered the data is manually deleted from this table.
we are planning to replace this table with Oracle Temporary table. Can you please let us know if this would increase the performance and why???

In theory it should, but you won't know whether the difference is going to be noticeable until you try.
Oracle has to do much less work with global temporary tables. It knows no other sessions will be using the data so it does not need to bother with rollback segments or locks. It also does not bother with redo because there will not be a need to recover.

I got a nice laugh from this today, so I thought I would share it.
A developer complains, "I get this error when my code is running".

We want to compare an incoming date range with the date defined in the rules. This date comparison is based on the input date in the fact & the date as defined for each rule. Can this be done in a decision table?

I see a couple of problems here.
First, what you posted below is not a syntactically valid query. It seems to be part of a larger query, specifically, this looks to be only the GROUP BY clause of a query.

As you discovered, if you attempt to do so, you'll find it doesn't work. If you stop and think about how SQL is processed, it should make sense to you why the SQL is not valid.
If you want to apply a filter condition such as:
trunc(max(RD.DATERECEIVED)) BETWEEN TO_DATE('01/08/2011','DD/MM/YYYY') AND TO_DATE('01/08/2011','DD/MM/YYYY')you should do it in a HAVING clause, not a where clause:
select ....
from ....
where ....
group by ....

We are not allowed to put files on the CSV file system (Server A), where DB instance is running. We are able place CSV files on another server(Server B), where DB instance is not running.
We are trying to use oracle external table to load text files in .CSV format.
How do we create a Directory (Create Directory) on Server A DB to point to File system of Server B?
Is it feasible?
Any idea?

The Solaris DBA should be able to mount the filesystem for you. Either that or you have to get creative transferring the file like this;

I'm not sure, but maybe you should get rid of the redundancy that you have in your CREATE TABLE statement.
This line covers all fields:
FIELDS TERMINATED BY "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"'
{code}
So I would change the field list to:
{code}
DATE1 CHAR (10),
DATE2 CHAR (10),
POL_PRTY CHAR (30),
P_NAME CHAR (30),
P_ROLE CHAR (5)

It created successfully using SQL Developer
Here is the issue.
It is not loading the records, where fields are enclosed in '"' (Rec # 2,3,4,7)
It is loading all NULL value record (Rec # 6)
*** If we remove the '"' from input data, it loads all records including all NULL records
Log file has
KUP-04021: field formatting error for field P_NAME
KUP-04036: second enclosing delimiter not found
KUP-04101: record 2 rejected in file ....
Our questions
Why did "REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS" not working?
Why did Terminated by "," OPTIONALLY ENCLOSED BY '"' not working?
Any idea?

Note that I had to interchange the two lines:
MISSING FIELD VALUES ARE NULL
REJECT ROWS WITH ALL NULL FIELDS
Just to get the access parameters to parse correctly.
I added two empty lines, one in the middle and one at the end - both were rejected.
In the log file, you will see the rejectiions:
$ cat p_load_000_9219.log

Cannot create a temporary column table in HANA SP8 console

Hi All,
We upgraded the HANA to SP8 version this week, and found there are some issues when creating a temporary table.
Here is the sql:
CREATE TYPE TT_CONF AS TABLE(ID INTEGER, NAME VARCHAR(32))
CREATE LOCAL TEMPORARY COLUMN TABLE #CONF LIKE TT_CONF;
And then got the error message like below:
Could not execute 'CREATE LOCAL TEMPORARY COLUMN TABLE #CONF LIKE TT_CONF' in 220 ms 419 µs .
SAP DBTech JDBC: [598]: failed to execute the external statement: InvalidHostNameException at Communication.cpp(01174):
message: the hostname could not be resolved
info: host unknown
param:
Is this a new constraints or just a bug? Does anybody have this issue?

I also encounter the same problem in XS service. Now we import '/sap/hana/xs/libs/dbutils/procedures.xsjslib' into our project. But it will throw errors when one of the procedure's parameters is a temporary table.
Then we debug it, then we find errors come from following statement : connection.prepareStatement('CREATE LOCAL TEMPORARY COLUMN TABLE "' + localschema + '"."' + localtemp + '" LIKE "' + schema_name + '"."' + table_name + '"').execute();
So we try to delete COLUMN in the lib, then everything seems okay.

Raw pointer access to in-memory tables

Hello, I realize this is quite an odd question, but I was wondering if it's possible to obtain raw pointers to rows stored in an in-memory table introduced in SQL Server 2014.
What I am trying to do is to use AMD Kaveri APU in conjunction with SQL Server 2014. The APU has 500+ shader cores that can perform an operation on a piece of memory in parallel, and since SQL Server 2014 already keeps these tables in memory, I was hoping
there is a way to reference these tables directly via pointers that can be used by APU cores (I could create wrapper code in CLR if needed) rather than taking data out of the database and creating in-memory arrays. All data types I am interested in are fixed
length (doubles) and tables can be locked in the "read-only" state while read operations take place.
Is it possible to access in-memory tables via raw pointers?
