Oracle Upgrade to 10g

Ihi Guys
I am in the process of Oracle database upgrade.
Oracle 9i to Oracle 10g(10.2.0.4)
SAP: 4.70, Windows 2000
DB have been installed and now need to apply the patch to level 4(10.2.0.4).
In the Oracle documentaion for Oracle Patches, i can see sectioon 7.1 and section 7.2 talks about .
7.1 Review Known Preinstallation Issues
Review the information in the following sections. If any of the issues apply to the Oracle installation, follow the instructions before installing the patch set.
Upgrading Oracle E-Business Suite Databases
Upgrading Installations that use Physical or Logical Standby Databases
Upgrading Installations that use Java Virtual Machine or Oracle interMedia
Upgrading Oracle Clusterware
Notes to Oracle OLAP Users
Disabling Oracle Database Vault
7.2 Identify the Oracle Database Installation
This is not a complete software distribution. You must install it in an existing Oracle Database 10g Oracle home. To identify Oracle home directories, view the/etc/oratab file.Use Oracle Universal Installer to identify Oracle home directories. From the Welcome screen, click Installed Products, then click the Environment tab. You should then cross-check this by executing
opatch lsinventory -all
Do we have to perform these activities as well, or we can ignore these steps and continue with next steps onward?
Regards

Hello Ricky,
> Upgrading Oracle E-Business Suite Databases
Not needed.
> Upgrading Installations that use Physical or Logical Standby Databases
Only needed if you have a standby database for your productive database. Standby databases can be maintained/created with Oracle Data Guard or manually.
> Upgrading Installations that use Java Virtual Machine or Oracle interMedia
Not used in a standard SAP environment
> Upgrading Oracle Clusterware
Only needed if you use Oracle RAC
> Notes to Oracle OLAP Users
You have an OLTP.. not an OLAP
> Disabling Oracle Database Vault
Not used in a standard SAP environment (pilot phase)
> 7.2 Identify the Oracle Database Installation
You should perform these step and check it.

  • Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]

    Hi Deepak/Folks,
Another question that I have is that while doing the Oracle Upgrade on an EP server, the patches were not installed properly and I had to shut down the Patches installation after it did not do anything for a while.
Now when I try to install the patches it fails telling me that the Installed patches cannot be verified, I had written to SAP and they told me to follow the
    SAP note 1862446 - Inventory
load failed... OPatch cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home
    and re-create the oracle  inventory.
This has also not helped in anyway.

Oracle Upgrade from 10g to 11g [BRANCHED BY MODERATOR]

  • Oracle upgradation to 10g

    Hello all,
Whether i need to check the BI system before going for Oracle upgrade to 10g. As we have taken sys copy from BIP to BI test server. Now we are planning to upgrade oracle 9i to 10 g. Please suggest.
    amit

As part of a project implementation you shoudl have test scripts developed by your implementation team
They are not generic and shoudl be in your documentation handed over.
I cant give you a link because they are sitting on my server and apply to my project
If you havent got any test scripts then you will have to generate them from scratch - and these can be used for all other upgrades - and yes they cost a fortune in man hours to write
    Examples are:
    Listcube
    Open Hub
    SPRO tables
    Multiprovider checks
    Aggregate update
    Process Chains
    Transport Checks
    Foreign Character check
    Role Access
    Creating queries
    Creating variants
    Superuser checks
    Variable checks
    RSRV checks
    Run under Citrix
    SQL checks
    etc

  • Client Upgrade issue in Oracle Lite Database 10g 10.3.0.3.0

    Hi all,
Details: My Environment is Oracle Database 11g R1(11.1.0.6.0) With Oracle Lite Database 10g R3(10.3.0.3.0) on Windows 2003 Server R2 SP2.
Recently i have upgrade my oracle lite database from 10.3.0.2.0 to 10.3.0.3.0 and also applied recent opatch (p12812978_103030_Generic.zip). Upgrade and installation of opatch got successfully completed. When i tried the client synchornization for the very first time (FCS and Data Download) FCS and Data Download got Successfully completed but the problem is usually Once the FCS and Data Download Got Completed , Screen goto webtogo home page but in my case i am getting a screen name called "client upgrade" with options yes or no if choose yes it prompting please wait screen nearly for 1 hours i am not getting any response from the screen. if choose no simply it goto my webtogo home page. Please Note before choosing the yes option i have checked what version i am currently having it show 10.3.0.3 i don't know why it asking for the client upgrade. Please Advice me on this how to avoid this screen (Client Upgrade).
    Thanks
    Shan

    Hi,
i am not upgrading the existing environment of Oracle Lite Client i am creating a new environment which doesn't have the Oracle Lite Client. In the document itself they have mentioned like this "These steps assume that you have a 10g Release 1 or 2 Branch Office environment already configured and synchronized. If you do not have this environment currently configured, you do not need to upgrade." To be Clear What i am doing is with help Oracle Lite Branch Office i will be downloading a user from Mobile Server for that i have to do the following
1.FCS(Fresh Client Setup for that i have to run the setup.exe which is coming for Oracle Lite Branch Office) and
2.Data download (Data will be get download from Mobile Server in the form of odb),
    3. Usually Once the FCS and Data Download got completed, the screen will goto the webtogo home there i can see my branch offlice applications.
    4. But in my case i am getting prompted by screen and the screen name called "Client Upgrade" with options yes or no if i choose yes screen got hanged else if i choose no then only screen moving the webtogo home page. Say can u r having existing environment in your machine due to some reasons u have upgrade or u have installed optach on the mobile server in that case while doing the client synchronication we can do the client upgrade by running the update.exe becasue client side will having the old binary file we need to renew it.
    5. But I am not upgrading the existing environment. I am creating a new environment which means i am doing a fresh client setup and synchronization for the very first time. While doing the FCS on my client side for the very first time i will be getting the latest binaries rite then why the screen is moving to client upgarde page i don't have any idea on this.
    Please Advice.
    Thanks

  • Oracle Upgrade 8.1.7.4 to 10g in Red hat linux

    Dear All,
We are planning to upgrade our oracle database from 8i to 10g along with the Redhat linux upgrade from  2.4.9-e 27 ent to Red Hat Linux 5. In my study and also from Installation guides and oracle upgrade guides I made sure that its possible to upgrade our database from 8.1.7.4.
So I have planned the below options to do the same and not sure about the possibilities. If anyone have thoughts and idea on the same please suggest me.
We dont have plan to migrate the development hardware and the sap version is 4.7E
Option 1: Upgrade the Linux to 5 and then upgrading the database to 10g usign upgrade assistant tool
Option 2: Export the database using sapinst tool and then crashing the server. Installing linux5 and importing the database using sapinst tool.(I am aware this is not a good idea since there is no migration in hardware but it will be helpful in production since we are migrating the production system).
Option 3: Performing DBUA assistant in development and sapinst method in production.(helpful in disaster recovery)
Could you please suggest on the same?
    My query is that.
If i am performing oracle export from 8.1.7.4 and if i am import the same in oracle 10g using the sapinst tool. Will this work? or it will create a problem in table level. I am looking for answers for this Question. Kindly explain me on this.

Actually sometime back we tried to upgrade to 10g which failed and then i did clone it from prod. I installed 10g software, companion products,10.20.4 patch set on new oracle_home-/u05/fatstdb/10g
I believe rest of inventory is clean as i always create a empty oraInventory directory before cloning.
DBUA also gives message, that if you do not see database that you want, make sure that the entry with database name exists in file /var/opt/oracle/oratab file.
I think i will have to edit the file oratab manually to remove the entry "FATST:/u02/fatstdb/10g:N" as the desired entry is already there. Is this okay?
Also i manually copied init<sid>.ora from 9ihome/dbs to 10ghome/dbs modifying the required parameters. i want to know is this manual step required?
    Thanks

I did that and restarted the DBUA. It went on smoothly but during the Post-install steps, the putty connection was lost and hence GUI also got lost. when i see the PostUpgrade.log
    It states this-->

  • Need to upgrade oracle 8 to 10g

    Hi,
I want to upgrade my database from version 8 to version 10g.
    My question is:
    1) Can i upgrade from oracle 8 to 10g directly? OR need to upgrade to 9i before upgrading to 10g.
    2) Is DBUA the right tool for the upgradation?
    Hoping for a healthy response,
    Thank You and Best Regards

    Please read
Oracle Database Upgrade Path Reference List [ID 730365.1]
    1. Yes you can directly upgrade...
    2. DBUA is good but i would recommend you to go for manual upgrade because you will have more understanding what is happening :)
    Upgrade Path
    8.1.7.X.X TO 10.2.0.4.0
    1. Install 10.2.0.1.0 software
    2. Install the 10.2.0.4.0 patchset on top of the existing 10.2.0.1.0 ORACLE_HOME
    Patchset number is : 6810189
    Patch 6810189
The minimum version required to upgrade to 10.2.X.X.X is 8.1.7.4
Note 551141.1 : Database Server Upgrade/Downgrade Compatibility Matrix
If your oracle database is of a lower version than 8.1.7.4.0 , then Upgrade the database to 8.1.7.4.0 first.

  • What is the best option to upgrade oracle 9i to 10g with standby?

I have a production DB with standby on 9.2.0.6. We plan to upgrade it to 10.2.0.4. The database is about 500GB. The network between primary and DR is limited at 10m bit/second. Primary is at Atlanta and DR is at Virginia.
The choices are, I think, that I can do an upgrade at primary and send the db copy to DR to build the standby db (this may take a whole day at least). Or I can upgrade primary to 10g. At same time bring the standby to normal database to upgrade to 10g and then bring it back to DR mode (can I do this technically?).
What is the best in term of minimum down time? Or do we have any other choices? Thanks.

    Hi
Thanks a lot for prompt reply! My understanding is that you recommend option1:
    Option1 (in my understanding way):
    0. Stop both application and standby database
    1. upgrade primary to 10g
    2. Re-start application to point primary on 10g
    3. Take a backup (eiterh rman or manual hot) - this could take while 3-4 hours
    4. Send backup to standby site - this will be while 6-8 hours
    5. Create a standby control file from primary to send over to standby
    6. Create and start standby DB and let it apply all logs generated during the priod of step 2,3,4,5. (this could be while as the database is very active)
    I thought possible option2:
    Option2:
    0. Stop application, primary, and stadby databases.
    1. Upgrade primary to 10g. At same time, activate the standby to normal db and upgrade it to 10g. At end of the step, hopefull, both primary and standby is still in sync.
    2. Re-start the application to point primary on 10g
    2. Create a standby control file from primary to send over to standby
    3. Create and start stadnby DB and let it apply all logs generated during the period of step 2.
It looks that option2 will be taking shorter time overall as no duplication needed. Would that be possible technically and practically?
    Thanks for any advice!

  • Oracle Upgrade from Oracle RAC 9.2.0.6 to Oracle 10.2.0.4

    Hi All,
Currently, we are running 4 node Oracle RAC environment with below mentioned configuration.
    OS: Sun Solaris 5.9
    Hardware: Sun E2900
    Oracle Version: 9.2.0.6
    Veritas Cluster Server: 4.1
We want to upgrade Oracle version to 10g, and currently analyzing the options to perform this. The current database size is 1TB appx and we want to spend minimum application shutdown time running on this database.
As part of upgrade, we also need to upgrade Veritas Cluster Server from 4.1 to 5.1 to support Oracle 10g. It would be great help,, if someone can pass some guideline to perform this task.
We are currently thinking about piecemeal approach, where we can upgrade each node individually and then put them back to cluster. There are some complexities involved, and its really high risk approach.
Thanks a lot in advance for help
    Regards,
    Manoj

Orcale 10g RAC requires you to install Oracle Clusterware. Oracle Supports running it along side a 3rd party clustering software. Not sure why you're so anxious to upgrade Veritas Clusterware when it will be trivial on the 10g db hosts.

We recently upgraded from 10g to 11g and all the images are broke in the dashboard.
Can anyone provide the steps needs to be done in order to fix the broken images?
    Thanks.

    Put image files at
    Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\Oracle_BI1\bifoundation\web\app\res\s_blafp\images
    Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\servers\bi_server1\tmp\_WL_user\analytics_11.1.1\7dezjl\war\res\s_blafp\images
    If required
    Drive:\Oracle\Middleware\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\servers\AdminServer\tmp\.appmergegen_1291264099332\analytics.ear\ukjjdc\res\s_blafp\images
    Call them using fmap
    Syntax: fmap:images/imagename.imageformat
    for e.g: fmap:images/geograph.jpg

  • After Upgrade OBI 10g to 11g:Odbc driver returned an error - SQLExecDirectW

    Hi all,
for an OBI upgrade from 10g to 11g I used a RPD and Webcatalog based on a remote machine other than my local machine. Firstable I am making the tests on a Linux Virtual machine, which uses the Sample Lite version from Oracle.
    I made the following steps:
    1. I upgraded the RPD and Webcatalog. It worked without any errors.
    2. I set the static variable BI_EE_HOME via Administration Tool to the path in the Linux machine.
--> Here I am not sure if the set path is correct. It begins with: \bi\ ...\instances\...\coreapplication_obis1 (... : I can't mention here the whole path name).
--> When the OBI Server is installed in Windows, the mentioned static variable points to something like 'C:\<install folder>\...\coreapplication_obis1'
--> Question: is the begin of my set path correct?. I set that pointing to the Linux OBI Server, because the OBI Server is installed on Linux.
    Problem:
After login as the user in RPD: Administrator/<Password for my upgraded RPD> I can see the links in the Catalog and the Dashboards links. But I can not see any values, any Reports when going through the links.
For example when trying to see a Dashboard with date 12.02.2011it happens:
Odbc driver returned an error (SQLExecDirectW).
    Status: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] general error.
[nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
    [nQSError: 43119] Query Failed:
[nQSError: 17001] Oracle Error code: 12154, message: ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    at OCI call OCIServerAttach.
[nQSError: 17014] Could not connect to Oracle database. (HY000)
    SQL Issued: SELECT "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" saw_0 FROM "Accounting (ACC)" WHERE "Dimension_-_My Dimension"."MyDimension" LIKE 'J%' ORDER BY saw_0
I think its not retrieving the data from the remote database, because I don't have the data of the remote database in my local. I think the OBI Server still is pointing to the local virtual machine Oracle database.
Can anybody tell me what happens here and how can I solve this problem?.
    I would appreciate any help....

    Hi gerardnico,
I've tried many things and did as in your articles, but I don't have success with that.
These are the things I did:
    1. I searched for the file tnsnames.ora in my Linux virtual machine. I could find it in many paths:
    /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/hs/admin/tnsnames.ora.sample
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
    /.../oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin/temp/tnsnames.ora
    /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
in the last path I found the listener.ora as well.
    2. I took the tnsnames.ora from the last path, because the ORACLE_HOME points to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server
    3. I edited the tnsnames.ora this way:
    # tnsnames.ora Network Configuration File:
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = host_of_the_remote_machine)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = database_name_of_the_remote_machine)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = database_SID_of_the_remote_machine)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    4. I made a backup of the tnsnames.ora in path /.../Oracle_BI1/network/admin/samples/tnsnames.ora
and copied the tnsnames.ora from /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin to the Oracle_BI1 path
    5. I set the TNS_ADMIN to /.../usr/lib/oracle/xe/app/oracle/product/10.2.0/server/network/admin
    6. I restarted the BI Server
No success in what I did. The error is still there.
    7. I've tried also: sqlplus database_user_remote_machine/database_password_remote_machine@database_SID_remote_machine
    I didn't get the connection:
    SQL*Plus: Release 10.2.0.1.0 - Production on Thu Jun 16 04:36:10 2011
Copyright (c) 1982, 2005, Oracle. All rights reserved.
    ERROR:
ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connect identifier specified
    Enter user-name: database_user_remote_machine
    Enter password:
    ERROR:
    ORA-01034: ORACLE not available
ORA-27101: shared memory realm does not exist
Linux Error: 2: No such file or directory
What am I doing wrong here?. I am still thinking that I need the import of the database.
Additional SID=Service-Name=Database-name in the remote machine.

  • Installation problem in Oracle Content Server 10g

    Hi,
I am trying to install 'ORACLE CONTENT SERVER 10g', as a part of this trying to click on 'Installer.exe' in '/win32'. When i click this installer.exe, it is prompting one COMMAND PROMPT SCREEN and it is disappearing soon. In fact it was suppose to ask language preference as per installation guide.
Dont know how to resolve this issue. please help me out.
    Thanks in advance,

With this type of behaviour, you always need to find out the real error.
Try opening a command prompt (cmd) and running the command from the command line.
Then you can see what is going wrong.I have a question, I just upgraded our test 11i database (9i) to 10g (10.2), as a part of that upgraded forms, reports, graphics to patchset 18. Now planning to install 10giAS on appsTier on which forms, Apache and discoverer running. If I install 10giAS in differnet home, how can I get that in to appsTier?, does it mean adapcctl script no longer be used to start webservices?. I haven’t done this before, if my question is stupid, please ignore :).
