Oracle Version Upgrade
Hi
Currently I am using Oracle 9.2.0.1 and upgrading to Oracle 9.2.0.4 running on AIX.
Is there any implications that would affect my application. I am using oracle features such as Stored Procedures, RefCursors, Bulk Fetch..For ALL, Sql Loader Direct Path Uploading.
And application accessing the database are written in JAVA and VB 6.0
Please let me know the same.
Is there any implications that would affect my application. Appling of patch may change your execution plans.
I am using oracle features such as Stored Procedures, RefCursors, Bulk Fetch..For ALL, Sql Loader Direct Path Uploading.There are no features added or droped. This is just patchset (collection of bugfixes).
As I asked in your previous post why don't you apply the last patchset (9.2.0.6)?. Is there any reason?

Incorrect version showing after Oracle version upgrade
Dear All
As we have upgraded our oracle version from 10.2.0.4.0 to 11.2.0.2.0. As we go in the sqlplus / as sysdba " . it is showing the
correct version. ever after i checked through 'select version from
V$instance' showing the correct result also. 11.2.0.2.0. When we go ourenterprise portal & check the oracle version in the system info of enterprise portal showing "Oracle Database 11g Release 11.1.0.0.0 -Production"
we are not able to understand why it is showing the wrong version in the portal.
Can anybody help to trace it out.
Thanks

Hi Ravi,
Could it be belong to the Oracle client release?

App coring after oracle version upgrade
We update oracle from 9.x to 10.2.0.4.0 and this probably results in coring of the app. The app itself uses Pro*C to insert and update record from/in one table in Oracle.
When I comment out the sql aspect out of the code (including the part where it establishes DB connection), the app runs fine. Not sure which direction I should start looking. Any pointer will be helpful. Thanks.Yeah, we are sure the error with within that method and specifically with oracle connection. When we comment out the call to oracle the code runs fine. Here is a stack from earlier run..

Oracle Report Failing After Database Version Upgrade
Hi,
I have function code created in RDF file of oracle reports 10g as below-
create or replace function clobblobtest (TMP_MID varchar2) return varchar is
missed_text varchar2(1000) := '';
v_time_stamp date;
v_end_time date;
cursor c1(c_time_stamp in date,
c_mid in varchar2) is
select mn.TEXT from msgnotes mn
where mn.mid=c_mid
and mn.create_date >= c_time_stamp;
cursor c2(c_time_stamp in date,
c_mid in varchar2,
c_end_time in date) is
select mn.TEXT from msgnotes mn
where mn.mid=c_mid
and mn.create_date >= c_time_stamp
and mn.create_date <= c_end_time;
begin
IF ('1' = 'INWARD RETURN') then
select bbi into missed_text from mtf1000 where mid=TMP_mid;
ELSIF '1'='QPH Missed' then
Select max(nj.update_date) into v_time_stamp
from newjournal nj
where nj.mid=TMP_mid and nj.status = 'CTOVRQ';
for i in c1(v_time_stamp,TMP_mid) loop
missed_text:=missed_text||' '||i.text;
END Loop;
ELSIF ('Rejected'='Rejected' OR 'REJECTED'='REJECTED') then
IF ('TERMINATED' in ('TERMINATED')) THEN
Select min(nj.update_date),max(nj.ENDDATE) into v_time_stamp,v_end_time
from newjournal nj
where nj.mid=TMP_mid and nj.actionid2='16' and nj.actionid1 is null;
for i in c2(v_time_stamp,TMP_mid,v_end_time) loop
missed_text:=missed_text||' '||i.text;
END Loop;
ELSE
Select max(nj.update_date) into v_time_stamp
from newjournal nj
where nj.mid=TMP_mid and nj.status = 'UNSETLED';
for i in c1(v_time_stamp,TMP_mid) loop
missed_text:=missed_text||' '||i.text;
END Loop;
END IF;
ELSE missed_text := null;
END IF;
return(missed_text);
End;
Note:- Text column from table msgnotes is of datatype CLOB.
I have executed report having this function before oracle upgrade and it works fine.
But when i am trying to execute report after oracle version upgrade from 11.2.0.3.0 to 11.2.0.4.0 with same data report fails with runtime error Rep-1401: '' Fatal PL/SQL Error.
With New version we tried to typecast Text column from clob to varchar and executed report then it works... but report runs on old version without any explicit typecasting.
Please note when i run and call this funtion from sql developer with upgraded database version it works fine.
Please advise.This error can possibly depend on the fact that the PL/SQL engines are in different versions. When using SQL Developer you use the PL/SQL engine in the database. When using Oracle Reports you use the PL/SQL engine in the Oracle Reports Server (Web Logic Server even maybe). These versions - in the Forms and Reports realm - are different (read: a lower version) than the PL/SQL engine in the database.
If I check what version I have in Oracle Forms, as an example, I get 11.1.0.7.0 (Help in the Oracle Forms Builder menu) but in the database I have (select * from product_component_version;) 11.2.0.3.0.
That COULD be your issue...how to fix it I am not sure... -
Can anyone help me with the steps to upgrade my Oracle version from 11.1.0.6 to 11.2.0.1 in windows.
Thanks in advance.If you are going to upgrade, you should upgrade to the latest 11gR2 patchset (currently 11.2.0.4). At a high level -
1. Install 11.2.0.4 into a new separate ORACLE_HOME - see MOS Doc 1562139.1 and Contents
2. Apply the latest 11.2.0.4 PSU bundle available for Windows - see MOS Doc 1454618.1
3. Use DBUA to perform the upgrade - MOS Doc 870814.1 and Contents

Hello,
We are planning an upgrade of our CRM platform (CRM 5.0) with oracle version 10.1.0.4 to CRM 2007.
I was wondering which oracle version i would upgrade to : 10.2.0.2 or 10.2.0.4 ?
What do you guys think is the best/stable version ?
Thanks for your answers.
Rgds,
Marc.Hello Marc,
i think you are mixing up two things
10.1.0.4 = 10g R1 with Patchset 4
10.2.0.2 = 10g R2 with Patchset 2
10.2.0.4 = 10g R2 with Patchset 4
So you always upgrade from 10g R1 to 10g R2 .. and then is the question which Patchset for 10g R2.
I would use 10gR2 with Patchset 4, because there are some nice features and not so many bug fixes to apply.

Please help me
Thanks in advanceHi,
I have a export file (.dmp file) id :V09.02.00 version
I have the Oracle 9.0.1.1.1 version .That would be your source.
Now in import error is coming.What are the errors?
So i want to upgrade my oracle version .Which oracle database version?
I want to know what i will have to do
A Fresh Installation or any other upgrade patch is available for thisYou have to tell which database version you are trying to go to. Secondly were you trying to preform database migration first?
Like
- Source database (machine a) > export file
- Target databasse (machine b) > import from the exported file
Kindly clear the above.

Hidden parameters appears after Oracle 11gR2 upgrade
Platform: HP-UX B.11.31 U ia64
Upgrading from: Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.1.0.7.0 - 64bit Production
Upgrading to : Oracle Database 11g Enterprise Edition Release 11.2.0.3.0 - 64bit Production
Issue : There are around 130 hidden parameter appear after Oracle 11gR2 upgrade.
Before upgrade I have commented the hidden parameters on the PFILE. PFILE only to start the database for the Oracle 11gR2 upgrade.
Before upgrade, checking the hidden parameter:
SQL> SELECT name,description from SYS.V$PARAMETER WHERE name LIKE '\_%' ESCAPE '\';
optimizerextended_cursor_sharing_rel
optimizer extended cursor sharing for relational operators
allowlevel_without_connect_by
allow level without connect by
I am using client parameter file ( PFILE ) commented the hidden parameters highlighted above.
However after successful upgrade to 11gR2, creating SPFILE from the PFILE ( commented the hidden parameters) now i am getting 132 hidden parameters.
SQL> select count(1) from sys.V$PARAMETER where name like '\_%' escape '\';
COUNT(1)
132

usecolumn_stats_for_functionI just came across a similar case: 1 (just one) of our (RAC-) databases has 130-something underscore-parameters set to non-default values.
version is still 11.1.0.7 (e.g. not 11gR2).
All of those hidden parameters seem to be CBO related (list on request).
Weird is: Only one of our (very similar, supposedly same-config) databases have these hidden parameters set.
Colleagues justly wonder: Who, When, What has caused these parameters to be expliclty set for this one system?
Note: we do not have the complete history of this system documented (systems have been managed by 3 different parties already).
It is quite possible they came in with some patch or upgrade (catupgr?) somewhere between 11.1.0.1 and 11.1.0.7, but a confirmation would be nice.
Information welcome.

What happened?
The current ABAP program had to be terminated because the
ABAP processor detected an internal system error.
The current ABAP program "SAPMSSY2" had to be terminated because the ABAP
processor discovered an invalid system state.
What can you do?
Make a note of the actions and input which caused the error.
To resolve the problem, contact your SAP system administrator.
You can use transaction ST22 (ABAP Dump Analysis) to view and administer
termination messages, especially those beyond their normal deletion
date.
Error analysis
An SAP System process was terminated by an operating system signal.
Possible reasons for this are:
1. Internal SAP System error.
2. Process was terminated externally (by the system administrator).

How to correct the error
The SAP System work directory (e.g. /usr/sap/c11/D00/work ) often
contains a file called 'core'.
Save this file under another name.
If you cannot solve the problem yourself and you wish to send
an error message to SAP, include the following documents:
1. A printout of the problem description (short dump)
To obtain this, select in the current display "System->List->
Save->Local File (unconverted)".
2. A suitable printout of the system log
To obtain this, call the system log through transaction SM21.
Limit the time interval to 10 minutes before and 5 minutes
after the short dump. In the display, then select the function
"System->List->Save->Local File (unconverted)".
3. If the programs are your own programs or modified SAP programs,
supply the source code.
To do this, select the Editor function "Further Utilities->
Upload/Download->Download".
4. Details regarding the conditions under which the error occurred
or which actions and input led to the error.
Kindly help.
Regards
Sachin
Edited by: Sachin N on Apr 14, 2008 12:26 PMNo. If the environment would be wrong the system wouldn´t start up.
Core dumps are in 99 % of the cases program errors (in the SAP kernel or in an interface (libdbora*)), misaligend accesses of data etc.
If you encounter such an error have a look in the C-Stack. If you can´t see where the error is happening opening an OSS call. Most of those errors are fixed by installing the latest patches for the kernel and the database interface.

Hi Basis Expert,
We have an requirement of SAP upgrade which includes BW 3.5, CRM and R/3 (4.7).
These components needs to be upgraded to the latest version

RedHat AS4 and Oracle 10R2 upgrade - performance issue
Hi all,
As part of our database upgrade project (from Oracle 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3), we decided to upgrade our OS as well (RedHat AS4 from Update 2 to Update 4, 64-bit). We are in testing phase now and having some serious performance issues.
These below are steps that we have performed:
1. Ran db load testing plus Application Regression testing in order to get a baseline
2. Upgraded RH AS4 from Update 2 to Update 4
3. Ran db load testing plus Application Regression testing
4. Database load testing (including massive parallel processes, like 'insert into ...', 'create indexes ...parallel',etc ...) showed significant slowdown compared to our 'baseline' test (Update 2): 70-80%. The database is still Oracle 10.2.0.1, only RH was updated at this point
5. We upgraded Oracle 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3, latest CPU , etc ...(Update 4 on OS side) still same slowdown in performances ...
6. Our Application Regression Testing has showed performance degradation also but not in same extent as db load test (10-20 % on different application modules)
7. We also did one more thing : went back and upgraded Oracle with Update 2 (some 'workarounds' were required but that's another story). Performances were OK. So it seems our problem is not (directly) related to Oracle version.
Now we are going to install Update 6 (the latest update for AS4) and see how it goes.
If anybody have any experience or idea about this case and want to share it with us, it would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Milan N.Just a quick update for those who follow this thread ...
Everything worked fine with 'Update 6' kernel (both Oracle 10.2.0.1 and 10.2.0.3). We have also applied all available security packages.

Dataguard between different oracle versions
Can I dataguard an 11.1.0.6 database to a backup 11.2.0.1 database
For rolling upgrade purposes yes. But only to a Logical standby. And you can also use the transient Logical standby rolling upgrade as well if you are a Physical standby user.
See the following:
Mixed Oracle Version support with Data Guard Redo Transport Services (Doc ID 785347.1) on Oracle Support

Hi,
I have upgraded the database from 9.2.0.4 to 10.2.0.4 and for some time compatible parameter remained 9.2.0.0.
Recently i have changed compatible parameter to 10.2.0.4.Now I could open the database with pfile but when I am trying to open database with spfile then I am getting following error:--
SQL> startup
ORACLE instance started.
Total System Global Area 1694498816 bytes
Fixed Size 1299532 bytes
Variable Size 1342180276 bytes
Database Buffers 343932928 bytes
Redo Buffers 7086080 bytes
ORA-00201: control file version 10.2.0.4.0 incompatible with ORACLE version
9.2.0.0.0
ORA-00202: control file: 'C:\ORACLE9I\ORADATA\UPGRD9I\CONTROL01.CTL'
OS=Windowxp 32 bit
Database version=10.2.0.4 32 bit.
Please share your experience with me.
MKYes,everything is set to 10g only with spfile I am getting this error.
When i am starting it with pfile it is opening and running good the onle thing I can not enable alter system set db_file_recovery_dest_size=5G scope=both bcoz spfile is not being used .I started using pfile and created spfile from pfile and then bounce the database startup then I am getting above error.

Hi Guys,
this is my first post, so apologies in advance if I've selected the wrong part of the forum. . .
We are currently undergoing a project to move the database for one of our systems from 8i on unix over to 10g on windows 2k3 (we no longer have any unix support since ms is the company standard - a decision far above our heads that we cannot question). We have had a few problems with past attempts, but these may be explainable by outside factors (i.e. we discovered that some ports were blocked around the same time we made one attempt, and there was a virus outbreak on another go - like I say, the company standard is ms), so people are questioning whether the 'new technology' is compatible, or if we should try using older versions of OSes & oracle.
As I understand the theory, the operating system & oracle version should not cause any issues to our system if only the server side is changed, and the only change made to clients is to point them to the new server using their tns names file. Since all communication is via tcp/ip, and the database before and after is oracle, I would expect that if the same messages are being sent, the messages received should be the same, though the black-box server processing side of things may be different - i.e. aside from knowing about a change of server name and faster response, our clients should not be able to tell that there has been an upgrade, even when doing a binary level comparison of the responses. Does anyone know of any difference that could exist in the replies (i.e. would the later version of oracle maybe try to use a different data structure, or does the reply include some sort of tag to indicate what version of oracle was run on the server)?
Hope that all makes sense. . .
Many thanks in advance for your help,
JB
(Hope the bold helps to separate the question from the background padding ;) )Hi Arulselvaraj,
That's kind of what I'm asking, but at a more technical level. I am not worried about the actual user's, but the client software (in this case a very old and heavily customised version of JDE OneWorld). I am wondering if the binary data returned to a client by a server running 8i on Unix would look exactly the same as the binary data returned by a server running 10g on windows 2k3 when both servers have the same data and are sent the same query by the same client? In other words, would a migration from one to the other be transparent to the client application?
Hopefully that makes a bit more sense; not the easiest of issues to explain.
Thanks again,
JB
