Organize in Finder by Date, not by Roll?

I've been using iPhoto for quite a while. And I've been used to uploading photos to Snapfish, which uses the same folder structure as the Finder used to organize iPhoto, so it was easy to find any photo by date. I could upload all the photos from July 4, for example, by finding iphoto/2006/07/04. Easy enough.
But now in iPhoto 6 there's this blasted "roll" category. When I try to upload, I have to look in iphoto/2006/modified/roll 821 or whatever roll it is. Plus iPhoto 6 has taken my nice folder-dated organizational structure and changed it to this roll structure, which is ineffective. Now if I see a photo in iPhoto, I have no idea of finding where on my hard drive it is, unless I want to search by the DSCN number. And I don't know what roll iPhoto thinks it is (I've chosen to sort by ascending date). Shouldn't the roll show up in the info box?
So I'm looking for some way to change the roll structure back to the original date structure (year / month / day). I want to be able to upload easily to services such as Snapfish and I want to be able to manage the photo files in the Finder rather than through iPhoto. I can't backup my photos easily by dragging them to a hard drive, for example, without exporting them first (waste of time). Or I can't look easily at the folder for July 2006 and see what dates I've already uploaded from my camera.
Andrewrchambers posted a question (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=561829&tstart=0) about organizing folders, which was a start, but didn't answer my question.
I want to use the beautifully designed Apple Finder feature to automatically put photos into dated folders like it used to and get rid of the roll feature entirely. Who can help?

It was in response to many who wanted a system that was based on folders representing "shoots", more in line with the many professional image management systems available. iPhoto's use has grown beyond the causal home photographer and Apple was just meeting the greater demand for more user control of file storage and folder identification.
I upload my photos to a folder on the desktop, then title the folder with the shoot date (I'm not a pro) and a brief description. I then use R-Name to batch sequentially name the files with the internationadate format, YYYY-MM-DD-01.jpg, etc. This gives me great chronological search and sort.
Also for finding files by date you can use the Calendar at the bottom of the Source window. You can retrieve files by year, month or individual date. One you find the file you're looking for, a Control-click on the thumbnail and a selection of the Show file option will take you to the folder that contains the file and the file will be selected.

Finder modification dates not working

Why is it that after all this time and all the updates to OSX, it still cannot update the dates on newly saved files correctly?
When I do a find and replace across multiple files with BBEdit and they are auto-saved, the Finder does not update the modification dates. If I set the window to 'sort by date' all the modified files should have today's date and float to the top - but they don't.
I know about 'nudge'- http://www.brockerhoff.net/nudge/index.html thanks to BareBones support, but this really should not be necessary.

I would suggest a one-line Applescript:
tell application "Finder" to update folder (folder of the front window as string)
Click here to launch Script Editor.
Paste the script in the Script Editor and press the "Run" button. The front window will update. You can enable the Applescript Menu* for quick access, and put the script in the "Finder folder so it is always in front when Finder is in focus.
This may be a bug in BBEdit, I haven't seen the problem in at least a year.
* To enable the Applescript Menu, open the application at
/Applications/AppleScript/AppleScript\ Utility.app
and select "Show Script Menu". Any application that is in front has its own script menu so it is always changing. You can create a folder for the frontmost application by clicking the menu icon, then selecting "Open Scripts Folder", then "Open __ Scripts Folder". A new empty window will appear ready for you to populate with Applescripts.

Filtering and Find by Date : not very intuitive

Lightroom is a fantastic program fast, stable, easy to use, and generally very intuitive although I am finding the Library Filter in 2.0 to be a step backwards from the search facility in LR1.4. Here are the issues:
(1) Filtering the Library to find photos between dates used to be easy in the LR1.4 Find panel just type in the from and to date or use the slider or the handy drop down showing last week or last year. But in 2.0 I get two choices of date display: Flat (too long and cumbersome) or hierarchical. Hierarchical is my preferred view but it is not possible to replicate LR1.4 behaviour by filtering between dates: shift clicking between two specific dates in hierarchical view includes too much in the return.
(2) In the keywords column of the Metadata Library Filter, if you highlight two keywords by shift clicking then you it returns keyword 1 OR keyword 2 surely it should be AND? So if I want to find photos with keyword monochrome and keyword landscape it is not possible in the Metadata Library Filter. The answer is to use the Text Library Filter but Im just surprised it doesnt work in the Metadata filter.
(3) Another way of keyword filtering is the little arrow next to the number in the Keyword List on the right panel of Library. But that cannot be used in conjunction with the Library Filter - its just one or the other. And if you shift click to highlight two keywords in this panel it is just filters by the last keyword to be highlighted, not both.
(4) When I switch between folders the last filter used in that folder is retained even on a new Lightroom session. Surely switching to a new folder should either retain the current filter or switch the filter off completely.
None of these are bugs its done by design. Its not major I know, because all of these issues have work arounds its just that everything else in LR is so intuitive, and some of these issues are a bit of a step backwards from 1.4.

(1) Use Ctrl/Cmd Click to select the dates
(2) Selecting keywords within a column is OR selecting keywords across multiple columns is AND. You can configure the panel for up to 8 keyword columns and this can be saved for future use. Again, using Ctrl/Cmd click on individual keywords within or across multiple columns allows you refine the filter.
(3) The arrow was for Quick filtering of single selection keywords.
(4) The behaviour is as designed and resulted from all the pi...g and moaning that took place during the life of 1.x. Folk wanted local filters, not the global system that was present in Lr1.x. By default and assuming you haven't already filtered a folder it will be set to None. However, your choice is sticky, so having filtered a folder once it will continue to use that filter until you change it to something else.

Is this possible or do I have to use the procedure of copying the catalog along with the photos to a back up hard drive and then restore them on the new computer?

The 'normal' procedure is to do a PSE organizer backup (not a copy or a backup from external tools) to an external drive, then a restore to the new location.
The advantage is that you have a backup of both catalog and media files and you don't have all disconnected files, which would happen with external backup tools. Also, if you restore with a more recent elements version, the catalog will be automatically updated to the new format.
The drawback in your situation is that you'll have either to overwrite all your files or restore to a custom location, creating a duplicate photo library (which supposes you have enough free space).
It would be possible to simply use the organizer in the old PC to move the catalog to a new 'custom' folder just under your C: root drive. The catalog would be accessible once the drive will be installed in the new PC. Then you would have all files 'disconnected' due to the fact that all your media files are now on a drive with a different letter. Reconnecting a whole library is a hard job with PSE6, less so with PSE11/PSE12.
If the idea of fiddling with the sqlite database with external sqlite manager tools is ok for you, I can describe the process more in detail. You only copy your catalog folder (as suggested above) to another location. Instead of trying the 'reconnection' way, you install the sqlite utility on the new computer. When the old drive is installed in the new computer, you simply edit a given record in the catalog database, catalog.psedb, and start the organizer with your copied catalog by simply double clicking the 'catalog.psedb' file.
Even if the last solution is much, much quicker, I would still create a new PSE backup : you have never too much safety .

Data not rolling up of a dynamic calc member for a particular entity

In my planning application data is not rolling up of a dynamic calc member for a particular entity whereas it is working fine for other entity.
Please find below the sample Smartview Retrieve

As shown above data is rolling upto Member Top for entity 2 while it is not getting rolled up for Entity 1.
Request you to please help in finding the error.

Is Acct 1 Dynamic Calc? In that case will it NOT calculate the combination MemberTop->Entity1 as Member_ALL->Entity1 + Member_None->Entity1.
I beleive it'll calculate the Acct1 member again for Member Top based on the dynamic formula (whatever the logic). If you make it Acct1 Stored, then the aggregation will be correct by first calculating and storing the Acct1 member and then AGG the Member dimension.

Can not find master data in the cube

ItemNo is an navigation attribute of 0Material. We are using 0material in a cube. When I display the cube data include ItemNo, I don't find the data I am looking for. For example:
In 0Material:
0Material      ItemNo    Description
AAA                001           Test
BBB                002           Test
In the cube I expect to see:
0Material             ItemNo            On Hand Qty
AAA                      001                      1000
BBB                      002                       2000
Instead I saw:
0Material             ItemNo            On Hand Qty
AAA                                                1000
BBB                                                2000
0Material got refreshed after cube data got loaded. Is that why I don't find the refreshed Master data?

Hi,
When you laod the cube, the Values for Master are automatically get created in the master data (If they are not present earlier and with "Data Update Type in the Data Tragets" setting in InfoPackage).
Now when you are loading your cube with 0Material and Item Number, the values for Item Number seems blank. Thats the reason why you are not able to see the Item Number in Cube though it is present in Master. Because now these are two different keys, one with Item Number value and other without Item Number value.

Data Services job rolling back Inserts but not Deletes or Updates

I have a fairly simple CDC job that I'm trying to put together. My source table has a record type code of "I" for Inserts, "D" for deletes, "UB" for Update Before and "UP" for Update After. I use a Map_CDC_Operation transform to update the destination table based on those codes.
I am not using the Transaction Control feature (because it just throws an error when I use it)
My issue is as follows.
Let's say I have a set of 10,000 Insert records in my source table. Record number 4000 happens to be a duplicate of record number 1. The job will process the records in order starting with record 1 and begin happily inserting records into the destination table. Once it gets to record 4000 however it runs into a duplicate key issue and then my try/catch block catches the error and the dataflow will exit. All records that were inserted prior to the error will be rolled back in the destination.
But the same is not true for updates or deletes. If I have 10000 deletes and 1 insert in the middle that happens to be an insert of a duplicate key, any deletes processed before the insert will not be rolled back. This is also the case for updates.
And again, I am not using Transaction Control, so I'm not sure why the Inserts are being rolled back, but more curiously Updates and Deletes are not being rolled back. I'm not sure why there isn't a consistent result regardless of type of operation. Does anyone know what's going on here or what I'm doing wrong/what my misconception may be?
Environment information: both source and destination are SQL Server 2008 databases and the Data Services version we use is 14.1.1.460.

Delete data table before loading is not checked.
Column comparison - Compare by name
Number of loaders - 1
Use overflow file - No
Use input keys - Yes
Update key columns - No
Auto correct load - No
Include in transaction - No
The rest were set to Not Applicable.
How can I see the size of the commits for each opcode? If they are in fact different from my Rows per commit (10,000) that may solve my issue.
I'm new to Data Services so I'm not sure how I would implement my own transaction control logic using a control column and script. Is there a guide somewhere I can follow?
I can also try using the Auto correct load feature. I'm guessing "upsert" was a typo for insert? Where is that option?

File dates not updated in finder window (Mozilla only)

OK, folks - here's a real puzzler for you. I'm using Mozilla 1.7.12 to maintain a simple set of web pages. When I save an HTML file with Mozilla composer, the file's modify date in the Finder window does not update consistently. (The window is in list view.)
The date does not update as long as that finder window remains in the background. Selecting the window sometimes updates one file date (but not others if I've modified multiple files). Switching to icon view sometimes updates the file dates, sometimes not. Only logging out and back in (i.e., starting a new Finder) guarantees that all dates are current. This only happens with Mozilla composer - saving files with other software results in the date in the finder window updating immediately. It seems to me this behavior is new since I updated to OSX 10.4.3, but I can't be positive.
Any bright ideas? - Andy

Is this causing any problems, or is it just a quirky behavior? For example, if you change to list view and sort by date, does it still get the dates wrong?
I'm thinking this is probably a really marginal bug, where Composer isn't telling the Finder to refresh the date as most applications do, but then, Mozilla does a lot of unMaclike things. Eventually the Finder figures out that the files have been updated though. There are probably a host of ways you can force it to update, as you've already discovered. You can also force it to update with a simple AppleScript:
tell application "Finder"
update every item of window 1
end tell
This tells the Finder to update everything in the frontmost window to match what's on the disk.

Debuging mapping - error : Could not find test data for target operators ?

I use Oracle Warehouse Builder 10gR2.
I created a cube with two dimensions.
I debugged the mappings of these two dimensions then viewed their data after deployment.
I tried to debug the mapping of the cube, and got the error: Could not find test data for all source and target operators.
For source objects exist test data but for the target operator (cube_out) logically we do not need test data !!!! .
But the error is here: Could not find test data for target operators. Why ??
How to configure or explain to owb that the target operator do not have test data ????

I have two dimensions : DIM_1 and DIM_2 linked with the cube (Fact_table).
I have three mappings : MAP_DIM1, MAP_DIM2, MAP_CUBE.
For the MAP_CUBE, I have source operator : VIEW_IN and Target operator : CUBE_OUT.
I could see the data dimensions : DIM_1 and DIM_2 after debugging and Deployment in the OLAP schema.
I tried debugged the mapping: MAP_CUBE so I got the error: Could not find test data for all source and target operators.*

u r using any copy inspection result like of thing, if not than please provide the Mssg number. and possible than check ur plan properly.
F9 i have checked, this prblm occurs when u using the Copy inspecttion result during RR in QA32, ma suggesstion is to checck ur config "Copy inspection results" in SPRO properly against inspection type "04", and than check ur qaulity plan, than execute it will resolve.

Could not find any data to display. This might be due to the current selection of variable or filter values
We would however like to modify/remove this message.
How can this be done?

Barry, the other stolen computer, my IMac does not show me a locked on such and such date, but simply says offline. I set that computer to erase when it goes online and notify me when it is found, and to play a tone and play a message that the police are on their way!

If you only see the time then that would mean that you see an entry of the current day (today).
History items from past days should have the date as well in the Most Recent Visit column.
You should be able to see this changing if you open the last 7 days folder and scroll down.
