How do I backup my contacts and data on an original iPhone? I have a new 3GS but want to know if I can backup info first

Sync the original iPhone with iTunes to back it up. You can then verify that it's backed up by going to iTunes Preferences>Devices. This will list your backups. You can hover your mouse over the device name on the backup list and a pop-up will show you the IMEI, serial number and phone number of the device the backup belongs to.

I want my original iphone back!! I LOVED my original iphone. I never even upgraded to 3g or 3gs because it always just worked for me. I was excited to try the new iphone 4, thinking it was time to upgrade. I'm so sorry I did it. I am now on my 2nd iphone 4 and am even more unhappy than I was with the first one. I didn't have dropped calls on my first one but the time keep changing to another time zone randomly and didn't change when it should. Now with my second iphone 4 I'm having the sensor issue CONSTANTLY. I've tried it with case, without case, it doesn't seem to even matter. I put people on hold, speakerphone, disconnect, mute. It's a nightmare.
I have been a loyal apple advocate since in the early 80's but this product may just shake my support. PLEASE fix this issue. Don't tell me to buy a case! It doesn't fix the problem.
Unhappy. : )I wonder if all the people reporting the problem hold the phone between their shoulder and their cheek?
(I have to admire such courage. You wouldn't catch me using my £600 phone whilst intentionally leaving go of it!) -
Original iPhone back plate replacement
Does anyone know if Apple will replace the back plate on a 1st gen iPhone? It has been dropped several times but still works like a charm. The back plate is dented, etc... and needs to be replaced. I will probably replace the battery at the same time. Any info would be appreciated!
There are a number of aftermarket repair services for iPhones, but those few I've been able to find that quote prices on their web sites have a pretty high price for replacement of the back case - on the order of $70.00 US for just the part, and with installation one site quotes $130.00 - so it may not be worth the cost.

I just downloaded the new itunes 10. I plugged in my iphone and began to set it up. When i got the the page set up your iphone i clicked on restore from the backup "My Iphone" last updated 1.26.11. SO LONG AGO. What I want here is to set it up as a new iphone but now I have my old one back with stuff on there from last year and its annoying me hardcore. Is there anyway I can go back to my original Iphone or is that lost?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot and make sure that you do not exceed the maximum file size (1 MB).
Reset the page zoom on pages that cause problems.

If you have increased the minimum font size then try the default setting "none" as a (too) high value can cause issues.

Make sure that you allow websites to choose their fonts.

It is better not to increase the minimum font size, but use an extension to set the default page zoom to prevent issues with overlapping text. -
Can not restore iphone back to original setting
i can not restore my iphone back to original setting, when i try to restore my iphone via itunes, it shows "The iphone could not be resotore. An unknown error occurred(-18)." anyone can help me out to fix this problem??

Hi, I bought an original iPhone 6 from an authorised dealer in China, however on the back of the phone, the FC, CE, and other safety logo symbols are missing. Is this normal for the chinese iPhone 6?

Correct.
You need to go to ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/.
The ~ indicates your User folder not the top level /Library/ folder.
Click on the desktop, then hold Option and go to Finder menu Go and Library will be there (only when holding Option as it is hidden). -
I'm restoring a new iPad 2 (shattered the original). Backed it up on the iCloud and have restored all apps, music, photo albums, etc. However, the photo stream has not activated, so no photos have downloaded. Photo Stream is fine on my Iphone and Mac.

Particularly:
I don't see photos in Photo Stream on my iOS device.
Check the following:
From your Home screen, tap Settings > iCloud > Photo Stream, and make sure the slider is set to the ON position.
From the Home screen, tap Settings > Wi-Fi, make sure the slider is set to ON, and that your device is connected to a wireless network.
Ensure that Camera app is closed on the device where you took the photo. Photo Stream will not upload photos from an iOS device until the Camera app is closed.
Ensure your iOS device has not fallen below 20% battery power. To preserve battery life, Photo Stream downloading and uploading are disabled when the battery reaches this threshold. Downloading and uploading will resume once you charge your device, and the battery charge is greater than 20%.

OK, my original iphone has just completed a factory restore. It's connected to my laptop, and ITunes restored it to firmware 3.1.3. Now, I can't connect to the ITunes store. I get an error message every time stating connection timed out, or something to that effect. Well, both my IPod Touch 2nd gen and 3rd gen connect perfectly to ITunes, so I doubt it's related to proxy settings, firewalls, or anything of the sort (believe me, I've spend 15 hours researching this without an answer). So, is there a problem with the original iphone with version 3.1.3 syncing with ITunes version 10.5.1 (the most recent one)?
I would LOVE an answer as this is driving me crazy.
Thanks.Mine had a SIM in it. Originally, when I took out the SIM and tried to restore it with nothing in it, it wouldn't work without a SIM card. So ... I took the SIM that was in that phone previously, put it back in and completed the system restore. I then proceeded to go through the process with AT&T of adding a data plan, which I did, and then it successfully completed the system restore. However, now if I run diagnostics on it, it will not verify ITunes Store. If I try to connect to ITunes store, I'll get the network connection timed out error I referenced earlier in this thread. I'm considering jailbreaking it and putting on an earlier software version. Your thoughts?

How do I unlock my original iPhone to be used as a backup to my iPhone 3G?

Some background:
Back in July '08, my original iPhone died. This occurred 2-3 weeks after the 1 year warranty expired and the Genius at my local Apple Store was kind enough to still replace it with a refurbished one. However, before I met with the Genius, I bought an iPhone 3G (which is what I'm using now).
My question:
The refurbished iPhone came with firmware 1.1.4 and is useless because it keeps showing the 'connect to iTunes' image. How do I unlock it so I can use it as a back-up to my iPhone 3G?
Right now, it's just a paper weight. When I first got it, I was hoping I could connect it to iTunes to unlock it but I stopped it half way through the process because it started to cancel my iPhone 3G data plan (to replace it with the EDGE data plan). In fact, I had to go to an AT&T store to restore the data plan on my 3G.
FYI, I have no desire to jailbreak it or unlock for use with other mobile carriers. I just want to unlock the phone so that I can use it with my current AT&T plan. I also did a quick Google search an all the articles I found were for jailbreaking the iPhone.

Message was edited by: Calvin Koo1Ok, weird. After starting this thread, I plugged my original iPhone into my MBP and iTunes displayed a message saying the firmware was too old to synchronize. It suggested that I upgrade the firmware. Instead of continuing, I chose to eject the iPhone and now it's activated - i.e., I can use the iPhone and access the apps (except for the ones that require a data connection). So, I guess I'm all set.
Hopefully, iTunes didn't screw up the data plan on my 3G (I don't think it did since it didn't show any message of communicating with AT&T's servers). -
How do I use my original iphone for videos & apps only, not as phone
I want to use my original iphone as a video and app player(not a phone) for my daughter, using my library of purchases on my account. I have an iphone 3G and my original iphone is not being used. How do I do this?
After an iPhone is no longer activated, you can't install a firmware update or restore the iPhone with iTunes (which re-installs the firmware) since activation is required in order to do so.
I'm not aware of a way to roll a restore back.
If you have the SIM card that was used when this iPhone was activated, you can try inserting the SIM card and do another restore. Someone here reported that it is possible to install a firmware update or restore an iPhone with iTunes that is no longer activated as long as the SIM card that was used with the iPhone when activated is inserted.

I lost my iphone and had to replace it. All my contacts were on my original iphone which wasa a version 4.
I had to replace the phone and now have a 4S. I had never backed up my original phone. How do I download all my contacts to icloud etc so I can upload to my new 4S?
Right now the original phone is "disabled" and it tells me I have to enter my 4 digit pin. It also says the only calls I can make are for assistance...
Once I have downloaded my contacts from original phone to icloud???...how do I sink my new 4 S.
Also, I have a new ipad and it has 3 G. I have lots of data in my ipone plan and don't need more. How do I "share" the data plan between my iphone and ipad? How do I keep the data backed up that is on both iphone and ipad.In Regards to this, You possibly wont be able to get the contacts from the iPhone 4 unless there is a back up file on your computer.
The original phone would be disabled due to alot of attempts of the wrong passcode. If all your contacts are on the cloud at the moment, you would be able to just set the iPhone 4S up with iCloud on it then Turn On "Contacts".
This would be bring all the contacts down from your iCloud onto your 4S.
But you will only be able to merge your contacts with the cloud when your original iPhone either has been enabled or the passcode was entered.
If you have previously already had iCloud on that device and have contacts Turned on, you will be able to just enter the same Apple ID you used for iCLoud on your original phone and use it on your new one.
Your able to check what content your iCloud holds via www.icloud.com
If you are unable to get past the disabled screen, then unfortunately the device will have to be put into recovery mode and then restored via iTunes NOTE: This will delete all data. -
Call Forwarding Number on 3G Not Retained as it was on Original iPhone
On the original iPhone I could turn call forwarding on and off and the number I had set to have calls forwarded to was retained when I turned forwarding back on. With the 3G the number to be forwarded to needs to re-entered each time I turn call forwarding back on.
I called Apple support and also spoke to AT&T support but they were not able to provide any useful information as to why this is or if the feature is not available any longer on the 3G.
Does anyone have any info on this and/or know of a way to have the forward to number "stick"?I have a new iPhone 3G and I have the exact same question. I used to have a Palm 750 (Mobile 6), and it had that feature, but on my new 3G, I have to reenter the call forward number every time, unless I am missing sometime. Seems ridiculous. It should maintain a list of at least 3-5 recently call forwarded numbers, as most persons would only have a select few numbers that they would ever call forward. Also, my Palm 750 had a special icon on the face page showing that I had the call forwarding feature turned on. That was a nice reminder, if I left that building and forgot to un-forward my calls.

Mail app crashes when opening on original iPhone
My teenage son's mail app keeps crashing when he tries to open it on his original iPhone. It has been happening since 2.0, with neither of the latest updates fixing the problem. He has been a jailbreaker with his phone in the past.
I have never jailbroken my iPhone and I have no application problems, other than some buggy apps from the app store that I had to delete because they would brick my phone. I've always been able to get my phone back to normal after a clean restore (not from back-up), and am very careful now. I have had no problems with the new 2.0.2 update and I have five pages full of apps from the app store.
Is a clean restore his only option? He seems reluctant to do this but I told him he may have some lingering problems due to a corrupt file from when he was jailbroken.
Are there easier, simpler solutions to fix a crashing Mail App before resorting to a clean restore?

I have five different mail accounts on my phone, could that be the problem? I click on the mail app button, it sits at the mail screen (no accounts visible) for a few seconds then dumps back to the home screen. I check options and my mail accounts are there, the app just won't finish booting up. This problem is madning and I really wish there was a solution beyond wiping my phone. -

Transfer Photos from iPhone back to MAC
Need to get photos from iPhone back to my MAC - they are not iPhone photos. They were installed from iPhoto then hard drive crashed and pictures were lost. Now would like to get them back from iPhone. Can this be done?
This is not possible by default with an iPhone.
Keep in mind that photos transferred from a computer to an iPhone are optimized for viewing on an iPhone. If possible by some other means, the original resolution of the photos would be lost.
This is why maintaining a backup of the important data on your computer's hard drive is so very important. It isn't a matter of if, but when your computer's hard drive has a partial or complete failure.
