Original mail disappears when forwarding if I inadvertently attempt an edit of the original.

This problem occurs when I am creating a reply to an incoming mail. After hitting the reply button, I will sometimes inadvertantly mix up (click on) the original mail message rather than the response I'm typing. This happens when my desktop is crowded and because of the way the reply message stacks on top of the original. Anyway, If I inadvertently attempt to edit or delete any part of the ORIGINAL mail, it just disappears in a flash, without warning, as if it has been deleted. Now, I know that original mail cannot be edited but why does it disappear? My reply message remains OK but the original disappears without a trace. Where does it go? Can it be retrieved?

I figured that part out already, thanks.
What I posted was an attempt to discover why the original mail disappears, where does it go, and can it be retrieved?
It's really annoying to have the original message just disappear on those occasions when I inadvertently to click on the wrong window.

  • Attachment disappear when forwarding a mail with attachment in a rule

Could anyone verify my problem please?
I have upgraded to Mountain Lion and Mail 6.1
I have a rule set up in Mail to forward certain messages.
However, since the upgrade, all messages being forwarded has all attachments striped.
It appears that the problem occurs only when forward is being used by a rule.
When I forward the same message manually, the attachment is sent as well.
    Am I missing something?
    Many thanks in advance.

    Update:
    Found the answer last night.
Forward mail in a rule behaves differently since OS X Lion from previous versions.
Forward mail set in a Rule would not forward any attachments in the original email.
If forwarding with attachments is required, use redirect in the Rule instead. (However,
you cannot append any message when using redirect)

  • Mail disappears when send clicked

About 3 days ago email I have composed began to disappear entirely when I click Send.  It does not go into Sent, Draft, Outbox or any other mailbox nor does it get delivered.  I just disappears.  This includes Replies as well as New messages.  Incoming email is received normally although I've been having some problems with Rules not being used properly but that could be totally unrelated.
There are no error messages...none.  The ONLY thing I can find is a message in Console like this for a test email I just tried to send: "9/13/12 9:31:36.898 AM Mail[1443]: deleting invalid message from outbox".  Clicking Inspector for the message provides nothing that I understand and cannot copy nor can I Grab it to attach.  We also have an XP PC using Outlook Express, the same email provider (RoadRunner) and account that sends email without a problem.
Does anyone have any idea why this happening?  Seaching the web or these Support Communities for the Console message provides no useable results.
Thanks in advance for any help.

In Mail, if you click on the Sent mailbox in the Sidebar, and then on Mailbox in the command bar, and then place the cursor on the Command to Use This Mailbox for, are the choices black or gray?  What you describe would most match needing to choose the Sent as the destination of message sent from Mail.  Is not required with all accounts, but can be the cause of this.

  • Mail disappears when transferred to folder On My Mac

I am having trouble losing pieces of mail when I transfer them to folders that I have created on my mac. Today I moved one, checked to see if it is in the new folder, and it is not in any folder at all!
    Advice, anyone?

    Laura Kaiser wrote:
    Thanks Elko,
In my special mailboxes for my mac.com account, store junk messages on server is checked, delete is set to never.
This tells me that your junk messages will be with you forever. You aren't deleting them from the server when you download them, and you aren't deleting them ever, from your computer. No reason I can think of to keep junk, on the server or on your computer, but maybe I'm not thinking right.
Also move deleted messages to Trash is checked, permanently erase deleted messages 'when quitting mail' is set.
This is good, HOWEVER if you are having a problem with mail disappearing, change this setting so that they aren't deleted when you quit, but maybe a day later in case you need to retrieve them from the trash folder.
In another account that included messages that disappeared, only move deleted messages to a different folder is checked, erase when one week old is set.
So have you looked in the trash folder of this account for the mail that is disappearing?
In the Advanced Tab, checked boxes for mac.com acct. include enable this account, and include this account when checking for new mail.
It also says keep copies offline, all msg.s and their attachments.
This tells me that you have a different version of Mail than I have. My choice that is closest to that says to remove copy from server after retrieving a message, nothing about attachments. What version of Mail do you have?
For the other account, (not mac.com), checked boxes include enable this account, and include this account when checking for new mail, and remove copy from server when retrieving a message is set at right away.
    What does this tell you?
I guess I should have asked you in the beginning, HOW are you moving messages to other folders (and then not finding them there?) Are you selecting the message and then using the move to command from the drop down menu? Are you sure you are putting them in a folder on my mac?
Have you rebuilt your mailboxes lately?

  • Mail disappearing when pressing send

When I press send on an email on my iPhone, the email often disappears compeltely. It does not attempt to send, and is not in the Sent Items or Outbox (Outbox is not visible).
This has happened a number of times on accounts which do work, and happened again this morning when I definitely had a full 3G signal. I have my email accounts set up to use only one SMTP server (the o2 server) with all other servers set to off. How can I retrieve missing email and prevent this happening in future?

    Hi Popshop. You’re welcome.
    Unfourtunately, it didnt' help.
What do you mean? Sure it helped. It was meant to determine the scope of the problem, not to solve it, and now we know that the problem is system-wide, not some kind of data corruption confined to your home folder.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
If the problem persists after having fixed all filesystem issues, reinstall the Combo Update for the type of computer and the version of Mac OS X you’re using, unless this is the version of Mac OS X that came with your computer:
About the Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for PPC
Mac OS X 10.4.8 Combo Update for Intel
Take a look at the following articles for guidelines on how to properly install system updates:
    Troubleshooting installation and software updates
    Installing software updates
Basically, you should verify/repair the startup disk before installing the update, no applications should be running while installing it, and you may experience unexpected results if you have third-party system software modifications (not normal applications) installed.

  • Recipient Address in Mail disappears when Redirecting

When redirecting an email in Mail (v3.6), I type in the 'To' address and send but it refuses to send, comes back with the message with no recipient address in the recipient panel, and has a message saying it can't send because there's no recipient. This happens over and over. Ultimately the only solution I've found is to make a new email using the content of the mail I was wanting to redirect (which of course is perfectly adequate but a bit of hassle when the Redirect function is meant to work and I have several mails to do). This has only started happening since OSX 10.5.7 update (using Combo updater) and only seems to happen using Redirect, not Send or Forward.
Any help much appreciated, thank you.

Seems that upgrading to 10.6.2 has made this issue ALMOST disappear - very seldom happens. Strange that it happens intermittently now.

  • Why does all the formatting in my composed e-mails disappear when I send them?

Hi! I've noticed lately that whenever I type up an e-mail with formatting (like changing the color of text, in particular), it looks fine when I'm typing it, but as soon as I send it, the formatting disappears. I bcc'd myself a few of the e-mails that I've sent recently and this is what I am finding. The formatting looks fine when I send it, but what the receiver actually gets seems to be lacking much of the formatting (especially when I change the color of text, it seems to always revert back to black in the sent message).
About a month ago, my motherboard fried so I am now using a newer system running Vista. This is a new problem for me so I'm naturally wondering if this new system has anything to do with the problems I'm having. I have looked at all the OPTIONS and ACCOUNT SETTINGS in Thunderbird and I cannot find anything that might either explain or correct this formatting problem.
Can anyone help? Thank bunches!!! Lauren ;-)

    Dear wuergler,
Thank you for helping me to resolve the formatting problem I was having with Thunderbird. I checked all the settings as you suggested and your option #4 did the trick. I offer only a very slight amendment to your instructions to make them less confusing (for me, anyway---I realize that the menus may differ somewhat in different versions of Thunderbird), as follows:
    2. In "Preferences/Tools > Options > Composition > General [tab] > Send Options > Text Format" should not be "Convert the message to plain text" and in the tab "Plain Text Domains" the recipient domain should of course not be listed.
    3. Before sending a new message [but while still in the in the new message, not your Inbox], "Options > Delivery Format" must not be changed to "Plain Text Only".
    4. "Tools > Options > Display > Formatting [tab] > Colors > 'Allow content to choose its own colors, instead of my selections above'" should be checked (default).
Thanks to christ1 as well. Glad we finally figured it out. Cheers! Lauren ;-)

  • Firefox shows my outdated e-mail address when forwarding

I was trying to forward a petition to other people to sign, but Firefox shows an outdated e-mail address, which I can no longer access because I'm not paying for the service. I have tried overriding the old address with the new one, but it doesn't work. How do I change the default to my current e-mail address?
    == This happened ==
    A few times a week

Firefox doesn't do email, it's a web browser.
If you are using Firefox to access your mail, you are using "web-mail". You need to seek support from your service provider or a forum for that service.
If your problem is with Mozilla Thunderbird, see this forum for support.
    http://www.mozillamessaging.com/en-US/support/
    or this one
    http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewforum.php?f=39
I'm not techy enough to understand the solution.
    Here's the history:
-- I've used Compuserve for 15 years, but CS doesn't do broadband so I went shopping.
-- I tried Verizon for broadband, and contacted Compuserve to let them know, but also told them I wanted to retain my e-mail address. We set up new billing for that at a reduced rate so that I would not be charged full price for dial-up.
-- Verizon gave me a new e-mail address, which I believe was so I could connect, using dial-up.
-- After a week, I was so disgusted with Verizon that I canceled it, sent all the equipment they had sent back and went back to using Compuserve on dial-up.
-- I then signed up for broadband, using DSL.extreme, and that worked for me. I am still using it today.
-- The problem is, something -- and I'm not sure what -- is still recognizing the now-defunct Verizon e-mail address as my active e-mail address.
-- Even on DSL extreme, I have things set up so that my old Compuserve e-mail address is the active one.
SO -- the questions to editmeister is -- when you refer to a "service provider", to which one are you referring? Based on what I have told you, what would you suggest?
    All help would be appreciated.

  • Mail disappeared when acct deleted

    Hi,
Thanks in advance for your help.
I deleted an email account which is inactive and I am no longer using.
When I did this, all emails in the inbox for this account, and in all all other mailboxes associated with the inbox for this account, disappeared from the mail app, replaced by blank space, even though all these messages had already long ago been downloaded by the computer from the server.
Does anyone know where these already received incoming messages reside on the computer, and how to view them?
    Thank you,
    Neil

What you saw is exactly what I'd expect to happen when an email account is deleted.
If you don't see any remnant of that account in "yourhomefolder"/Library/Mail, then your only option may be to restore that content from a backup.

  • Mail Crashes when forwarding or replying to messages

Mac OS Mail application on my iMac Intel crashes most of the times I want to reply or forward an email. Please some help or suggestion.

What type of mail account is this (POP, IMAP, .Mac)? If IMAP or .Mac, what are your Preferences > Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors > Drafts settings?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Turn OFF all the port configurations except the one needed to connect to Internet (Parallels in particular, if you have that installed) and see whether that makes a difference — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Open Keychain Access > Keychain First Aid and verify/repair the keychain.
Try also turning OFF the Search For Certificates options in Keychain Access > Preferences if any of them is ON — take a look at the following articles for more information on this particular issue:

  • No mail notification when a new R3 Work Item is available in the UWL...

    Hi,
I would use the universal worklist(UWL) to display SAP workflow items in the portal.
However, we have also the requirement that the end-user should get an email when a new task (r3 work item) is available.
I connected the mail and i can send and recieve only when i create task from the UWL in the Portal.
When i receive r3 work items no mail notification is sent.
    Please what is wrong?
Had somebody implemented this or any ideas how to do this?
    I appreciate any help.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ari

    Hi,
Its more on to the UWL side to send the alerts for the substitution tasks.
BPM doesnt have any handle once it hand it over to UWL. You can check the alerts in UWL to send notification to the substitution person so that that person aware of the task.
Another option may be check what UWL APIs provides so that you can read the substitution person in advance in BPM so that you can model a notification task

  • When I open several Raw files and edit one, the others disappear

Sometimes I open numerous raw files simultaneously and they appear on the left in a sidebar. Then I choose one to edit and when finished the others have disappeared and I have to load them again. Is there a keystroke that will bring them back without entirely reloading? Are they still in PSE but hidden? This seems like peculiar and poor design. (Mac version)

Using Preview is quite simple. I open the group of files I want to view and edit. I select one and drag it on top of the PSE icon in the dock, and it opens in the PSE raw editor. When I've saved the file I simply click on the Preview dock icon to return to that app. and repeat the select-and-drag to PSE. Preview provides a full screen display of file icons for the files I want to edit, so it is quite quick and transparent.
I don't necessarily want to Open a file; I might simply Save it from the raw editor. If I have 10 raw files, five of which I want to edit and Open, 3 of which I don't want to edit, and 2 of which I want to Save within the raw editor, the simplicity you describe disappears. Using my Preview-to-PSE scheme, I work on one file at a time and dispose of it when done. I don't have to keep track of which file needs what disposition, as seems to be the case in the process you describe. Please correct me where I'm mistaken.

  • I have new Ipod which shows mail, but when I punch to see all I see are the mail providers. The mail is set up correctly but I can't get rid of the providers to see my e-mails. Help??

I have new ipod touch which shows mail messages, but when I punch to access, all I get are mail providers. How can I get rid of mail providers and see my messages since the correct mail providers are set up already?

I do not know what you mean by "punc to see all mail provider".
And also what does "I can't get rid of the providers to see my e-mails".

  • My "extentions.ini" disappears when I close Firefox forcing me to re-authorize the installation of all my extensions. How can I fix this?

I was also missing the "extensions.sqlite" file but changing the folder properties from read only allowed that file to save.
AV installed is Bit Defender but I do not see a section there that would be protecting that folder from overwrites.

That is the extension registry file file used in Firefox 3.6.x versions and is no longer used in Firefox 4+ versions (replaced by extensions.sqlite) and can be removed. There may be other leftover files if you've used this profile folder with older Firefox versions.
