OS Upgrade on Content Server

Hi,
We are using Content Server 6.30 Installed on Linux 3EL, DMS Installed on ECC6 system.
We are using StorageType=FSS(File System Storage) on Content Server.
Now We are planning to Upgrade OS on Content Server.
Now Issue is I searched in PAM for suitable OS for our current content server but there I found for MAXdb and SAP db but not for storage type FSS.
Please suggest for which OS release we should go for our Content Server OS Upgrade and do we need to do anything after Upgrade for our storage(FSS) after Upgrade.
Please suggest.
Regards,
Shivam

Hi Shivam,
you just need to make sure that your operating system version that you want to upgrade to is supported for the version of Content Server that you are using.
You don't have to do anything from the file system side after the upgrade.
I'd also recommend that you use the latest version of the Content Server - version 6.40. As you have an existing version; you just need to install the latest content server patches to upgrade to this 6.40 version of the Content Server.
KR,
Karen.

  • ORA-00955 when upgrading from Content Server 5.0.2 to Publisher?

I am upgrading Content Server 5.0.2 to Publisher.
After running the sw installation and having imported the publisher.pte file, I am starting the Publisher and receiving an Oracle error "ORA-00955: name is already used by an existing object". From the messages logged, it looks like the error is encountered when recreating the object PCSACTIVE.PK_PCSACTIVE (first SQL statement with "Recreating ...", all others before where "Adding ...".
    My questions:
    1. has somebody else encounteered the same error?
    2. does anybody know how to trap the SQL being executed? As the upgrade is done automatically by the Publisher when starting, I have found so far no way of checking the SQL or knowing which SQL statements are executed against the DB) when "Recreating" an object.
Thanks in advance for your help.
P.S. Customer Support has also been contacted, but it looks like noone else has reported this kind of problems.

Pl post OS details - are you using DBUA to upgrade ? Are there any errors in the database alert log ?

  • Upgrade Content Server and Site Studio

    Hello Everyone,
We are trying to upgrade both Content Server and Site Studio from 7.1 / 7.2.1 to
    10gR3
    1) Instead of updating existing instance we Installed new 10gR3 instance
Exported folder structure archive, layout files and data files from old instance
    2) Imported into new 10gR3 instance.
    3) Tried to upgrade sitestudio websites
    4) Its created a project file but not adding any SiteStudio section properties
(ex. primaryURL, secondaryURL, IncludeSectionInNavigation etc.), if I open the site in
designer, it shows just blank site structure without any templates associated and all sections are disabled.
    Any ideas on this??

    Hi ,
If you are displaying the data from spaces only then all the operations like creating a web content , editing it etc can be done from Webcenter spaces itself .

  • Content Server Upgrade

    Hello,
I have plan to upgrade content server from 6.30 to 6.40 but I can't find upgrade guide for this. only install guide exist.
I think that I have to upgrade MaxDB first and then upgrade content server. right? and can I use upgrade master cd of netweaver7.0?
    Thanks

Well.. they are both separate things... you won't find and upgrade guide because upgrading your Content Server from 630 to 640 isn't really and upgrade you just have to replace a few files all the info you need is on SAP Note 514500 - Importing Support Packages for the SAP Content Server
Regarding upgrade of MaxDB database you'll find the guide at SAP Marketplace

Is it possible directly using database copy and restoring in MaxDB 7.8 version?
Or we need to use loadercli for migrating the data.

  • Netwearver WAS version 640 of the content server for PLM DMS

    Hi,
We have SAP R/3 4.7 version & have implemented PLM-DMS with content server on WAS620.We are contemplating to use distributed content server for our requirement. Has anyone used multiple content servers? if so, could you please share your experiences.
Also, if anyone has anyone upgraded the content server to version 640, i would like you to share your experiences with me.
    Thanks,

    [email protected]

    Sap R/3 4.6C - CS630 (patch-lvl15)
We do not use SapDB or MaxDB to store the document on the content server, we store the documents directly in the file system.
Our Content servers run on win2003 servers.
In my company we've currently got 15 different content servers in 10 countries.
We've got one content server and one cache server at each location for one SAP system. One physical server has 2 content servers and 1 cache server. One for our SAP production system and one for our SAP Quality test system. They use the same cache server (first we created 2 cache servers, but it was not possible for SAP to destuingish between the two, so both cache servers got used by both SAP systems)
We have also implemented a couple of add-ons:
    1. Conversion and viewserver (by Seal AG). conversion server converts office documents to pdf when documents are released. Currently use only 2 conversion servers, planning to increase when the volume gets larger.
Viewserver adds stamps on pdf-files when you view or print a document.
    2. Document Distribution Manager (by CENIT AG). Makes it easy to schedule prefill of cache. Also possible to move documents from one storage category to another. And Rules for transfering documents from one site to another can be made (Ex. "not allowed to move files larger than 20 MB between <certain> sites")
Perhaps I could be of assistance?
BUT, anyway, the reason I post this is because I have problems upgrading my CS630 (lvl15) to CS640 (lvl6).
Asked SAP via an OSS, and they said it was like a regular patching (stop webservice, copy *.dll files, and restart webservice). But when I try this, I can't get contact with the content server via CSADMIN in SAP. I get "HTTP error: 500 Internal Server Error"

I tried resolving both the file location and the http address from within the Content Server box and was able to without problem so I know it's not these it can't see.
I checked the pcs.log and the following error is reported:

It appears that the Content Server is trying to access this xml file via the public url for the image server which, due to firewall configurations in this environment, it won't be able to do. I'd like to be able to change how it looks for this file to be http://<SERVERNAME>/imageserver rather than http://<PUBLICURL>/imageserver
Where is it getting this from for me to change it?
Thanks in advance for your advice, hope my problem description makes sense :-)
    Anita

    Hi Diane,
No, we haven't fully resolved this yet. In addition to the issue listed we've come across a number of others that look like problems from install. We've reached the point where it's looking more effective to try and uninstall Content Server and do a clean install from scratch rather than debug every little thing.
As part of the new install we're changing the architecture to create an internal ImageServer on the CS server and then use a scheduled task to push everything out to the external ImageServer on the portal box overnight. This should get around a number of the firewall and dns issues currently making communication between the two quite difficult.
We recently installed another 5.0.2 portal in a different environment and have had none of the same issues with it so we're a little perplexed. When we get this resolved I'll be happy to write a note about what it was. In the meantime if you get anywhere with yours please let us know.
    cheers
    Anita

  • Content server upgrade from 6.40 to 6.50

    Hello,
As content server version 6.40 is not supported by SAP now so we need to upgrade it to 6.50. Can anyone share the knowledge who performed it?
I have gone through note 514500 and understood that patching is as simple as replacing some old files under particular folder with newer version files (v6.50). However, I wanted to get confirmation that upgrade is also same as patching or not?
Is there any dependency of content server 6.50 on MaxDB version which will be our database?
    Regards,
    NK

The SAP note 514500 - Importing Support Packages for the SAP Content Server is the one you need to follow to update the Content Server to 6.50
Existing SAP Content Server 6.40 Customers

  • Content Server not working after 5.0.2 upgrade

We upgraded the plumtree to 5.0.2. After upgrade, content server portlets not working properly. When I publish my portlet, Interface says it is published, HTML file generated at the published location, but log says
com.plumtree.search.UnknownTypeException: IndexManager.enqueue() : Could not find PTDocMaker for key PTCONTENT
    Portlet displays
Error: No Url is available for this portlet. It may not have been published.
    Any Idea ?

Hi Ravi, from the Release Notes for Content Server 5.0.2, there's this note "Publish Dialog does not show any error when search index fails but an error "com.plumtree.search.UnknownTypeException: IndexManager.enqueue() : Could not find PTDocMaker for key PTCONTENTTEMPLATE" is recorded in pcs.log. (Issue #27541) "
So you should make sure that the search server is running (just by doing a banner search). Assuming that's fine (it probably is), the likely culprit is an installation problem. Check the Content Server pcs.log file (located in PT_HOME\ptcs\5.0\settings\logs) for any error messages related to search api initialization. This cryptic error you're observing occurs when the search api initialization fails for some reason, the error is not gracefully caught and surfaced to the user. The pcs.log file may give a clue.

  • Content Server Upgrade Error & Installer Error

I'm upgrading Content Server to version 6.0 from version 5.0.3, but during the process the Workflow service was removed and not restored. I tried to run the installation program again to install the workflow server, but it keeps giving me this error message:
"Fatal Application ErrorThis application has unexpectedly quitInovaction of this Java application has caused an InvocationTargetException. This application will now exit (LAX)."
In the details of the error, it says it's a java.lang.StackOverflowError with the installer. So I uninstalled Content Sever to start all over, but I keep getting the same error message when the installer launches. I thought the installer may have become corrupt so I downloaded a new one and I get the same message.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thanks.

vfwrite cannot write : No space left on device
This suggest that you runned out of space... but if its not the case then it might be a bug.
No an expert in the subject... but you can try to patch the 7.6 to see if it fix the problem before you consider upgrading to 7.7
    That's my 2 cents

  • Upgrade Content Server from 6.10 to 6.40

    Hello folks
our customer is planning to upgrade its SAP Content Server (for DMS) from version 6.10 to 6.40 ...what is the best way to do this upgrade ?
Do we have to install the 6.40 first ? then relocate all documents ?
(our customer has a high volume of original files and require that there is minimum disruption in availability of the Content Server)
I have searched in documentation of Content Server but nothing said on the upgrade part
    Any help is most welcome
    thanks

    Hi Sooriya,
As you know, the Content Server 6.30 and 6.40 are both a part of
    the NetWeaver 2004S SR1 package.
The 6.4 release is available for download via:

    SAP NETWEAVER
    SAP NETWEAVER 2004S

In my opinion, I don't think there is direct upgrade to 6.40 from 6.10, and it should be NOT recommended.
I would suggest you to do a fresh installation via SAPinst installer.

  • Content Server 7.5.2 upgrade to use Oracle 10g database from MS SQL

Customer is currently on Content Sever 7.5.2 (Unicode) running with a Microsoft SQL Database. They want to
change to an Oracle database. During a new installation we would specify
Content Server with the Unicode Option and select the oracle database option.
We are now post installation (18 months) and the want to switch over to use an
    Oracle database.
Can someone please provide instructions for doing this from MS SQL to
Oracle 10gR2 (patched up to 10.2.0.4) with the Unicode option (nvarchar2
    (Unicode) vs varchar2 (non-Unicode)).
I have submitted an SR (7517840.994) for this and they indicated I need to post a message.
    Thank you
    Steve Brault

    Hi Steve,
I am just summarizing the requirement you are having . Correct me if I am wrong
You have a CS 7.5.2 running on MS-SQL. You want to migrate to CS 10gR3 running on a Oracle DB ? Or is it that you want to migrate only to a new database which is oracle DB?
For the first case what you need to do is to export all your contents through the archiver for CS 752 and all your configurations and metadata through Config Migration Utility. Then install a new CS instance running on oracle Db and import the Config Migration Bundle and then all the contents through the archiver.
For the second case you will have to take a backup of the data on the DB and also the DDL's of the Tables that are created apart from the normal content installation. Then you will have to run these DDL's on the Oracle DB (after changing the syntax) and make sure that on both DB instances all the table structures are identical.
Then you will have to load the data exported from MS-sql to Oracle DB. The export ca be done to a excel so that the same can be loaded on the oracle DB.
Before this you will have make the changes in the config.cfg for the CS and that is as follows :
    #Database Variables
    JdbcDriver=oracle.jdbc.OracleDriver
    JdbcConnectionString=jdbc:oracle:thin:@ecmtest.idc.oracle.com:1521:orcl
    JdbcUser=testsr2
    JdbcPassword=NsFKKQ0iRkKzvq+iDoXSDDqY2y1EgQhmRr7J3mDyvQQ=
    JdbcPasswordEncoding=Intradoc
    DatabasePreserveCase=1
Your config.cfg should have entries like this for Oracle DB. You will have to change the JdbcDriver,JdbcConnectionString,JdbcUser,JdbcPassword,JdbcPasswordEncoding
JdbcPasswordEncoding need to be changed to ClearText first so that you can put the password in normal language.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks

Now planning to install 10giAS on appsTier on which forms, Apache and discoverer running. If I install 10giAS in differnet home, how can I get that in to appsTier?, does it mean adapcctl script no longer be used to start webservices?.
