OSX help menu search not activating menu items in Photoshop CC

In Photoshop CS6, about 200 times a day I'd hit Command+Shift+/ to bring up the Help menu focused on the search field, just like I do in all of my apps. I'd type a couple letters from a menu item somewhere in the giant tangle of menu options, down arrow to the match, and hit Enter to action it.
I can still do this in Illustrator CC (and everywhere), but it's gone in Photoshop CC – it all works up to hitting Enter, which just closes the menu without actioning anything.
This is so much faster than mousing through the menu, so much more centralized and extensible than keyboard shortcuts. I miss it.
Here's a quick, dumb screencast showing how this works in Chrome (or any app), but not in PS CC: http://f.cl.ly/items/1p273r0h3k3w202w3m00/screencast.mov
I've contacted Adobe twice, on Photoshop.com (1) and on their support forums (2), and their engineer, Chris Cox, is drawing a line in the sand. He says their team hasn't done anything to provoke this bug, and that it's an Apple issue. Further, he says he can't (or he won't) deal with Apple's engineering directly, and that we users should do so through these forums. So, here's my swing.

(2) http://forums.adobe.com/message/6145901#6145901

Naw, I got nothing, I didn't even have a search field. Like, empty space, nothing to be found... HOWEVER. I reinstalled PS CC and got the search field back, then changed my shortcut to ⌘⇧+ system wide, and bam.. it worked.
I'm happy.
Greetings also from our mutual friend C. Cox from Adobe... Yeah, that's me.

  • Manual menu shows two active menu items on one page

    Hi--I'm having an issue where a manually-created menu shows two active menu items on the same page (as if two pages were active at the same time).
    You can see the issue on my test site here:
    http://teknationnewsite.businesscatalyst.com/telecommunications-services.html
    On the left hand menu, even though only the Telecommunications Services page is active, the menu shows an active state for the menu item below it also. How can I fix this? The states look like they are created correctly in the states panel.
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

    Okay, never mind. I am an idiot. It was a linking issue. I can't figure out how to delete this thread, however, so just please ignore.

    hi, my "restore from backup" menu is not active how can i get it on?.

    Hello imefromakwaibom
    Check to make sure that you have a back up by going to the iTunes Preferences and click on the Devices Tab to see a list of backups. If you have your Side Bar showing you can right click on the iPhone and should have the option to restore from back up.

  • Help please - Broadband not activated

    Hi
    I've just moved to BT from another broadband provider. My broadband was due to be activated last Friday (28th Feb) but apparently there has been a "delay" with the order. Now that I've been on these boards I can see that it's not just me (I wish I'd seen this first as I would have thought twice about moving to BT). I see that BT has taken the money from my account, and yet I am not receiving their service. I can't use the BT wifi hotspots where I am as I live in the sticks with no hotspots or mobile coverage. Luckily my old broadband provider is still providing me with broadband, but this means I'm payiing both BT and my old broadband provider while BT gets its act together.
    I've navigated BT's annoying phone system every day since Friday which just basically culminates in a recorded message saying, "there's a delay and we're sorting it out". No estimated date for completion, and no chance to speak to a human being. Why does BT think it's acceptable to take my money and not give me a date for completion? If I treated my customers like that they would vote with their feet and go elsewhere (and rightly so!).
    BT - please can you put me in touch with someone who can give me a completion date - and by that I mean a proper date, and not the standard patter that seems to have been fed to many others on these boards. I (like others on here) am a brand new broadband customer, and the lack of customer service and information I have received so far is not filling me with confidence and is very poor, particularly as you already have my money and I am effectively paying for broadband twice at the moment.

    Just something to point out - this forum is customer to customer. Though the moderators do work for BT (Customer Care team, if I've read things right).
    Since your old provider is still supplying the line, BT Retail will be unable to take ownership - therefore should not be billing you. BT Wholesale can forcibly remove a line from a retailler, and re-assign to another retailler, but in your case, doing so would leave you without broadband.
    For the BT Wifi issues, you should be able to login using your BT ID (email address & password you signed up for). If you're having difficulties, probably best to call BT to get advice.
    My advice for beating the voice recognition system, when prompted for who you want to talk to or what about etc, simply say "Order Management" - that'll then prompt you for the phone number you want to discuss with BT. At this point, press #. It'll ask you again, press # again. The automatic system will then give up, and drop you in a queue - hopefully to the Order Management team (I've had mixed success getting straight to them). At most, I've spent 10mins on hold.
    EDIT: Oh, and if you get to talk to someone with a Scottish accent, hang on to them!! They are very apologetic, and actually give information out to customers. I just wish they could progress orders more - other than that, can't fault the Scottish call centre.
    My first activation date was 3rd Feb. Then 27th Feb. Then today, 4th March. I'm still not active, BT have communicated the basic reasoning, but will always pass the buck to OpenReach since it's their responsibility to do the work. And the customer is allowed no direct interation with OpenReach.
    Good luck!

  • Power user function: cmd+shift+/ not activating menu items in Photoshop

    In Photoshop (Mac OS X), I typically use the pattern type cmd+shift+/ to open the help menu, type the phrase of the menu item I want to use, and then hit enter to activate the selected menu item.
    I just checked Photoshop CC and the enter key does not seem to correctly behave as it should. Instead of activating the selected menu item, it just dismisses the help menu.
    Is there a way to force the enter key to behave correctly, as it does in other apps?

    It seems to do the same running 14.1.2 on mac os x 10 6.8
    It seemed to work fine before updating from version 14.0

  • Mail search not finding existing items

    The simple Mail Search tool finds many things in the mailboxes, but misses more and more. When a search is being done within a given mailbox or folder, the search expands (sometimes unreliably) to go through all mailboxes/folders, when this was not desired.
    Is the indexing not working? How can this be checked?
    What are limits of indexing (number of messages, etc.)?
    Mail is open for many hours/day, so time should be available.
    Entire Mail Folder is now over 1.3 GB, too big to handle?

    I had the same problem but rebuilding spotlight's index fixed the problem. I followed the instructions at

  • New TV shows show up on Store menu, but not series menu

    The problem I am having is that sometimes a TV show will appear in the TV shows section of iTunes, but when I click on the link to that particular episode, it brings me to the page for the correct season of that series, but the episode is nowhere on the list. For example, can anyone else access the new TV show CSI Las Vegas episode 'For Gedda' which appears under programs 'currently on'?

    Looks like an "oops" to me. Contact the iTunes Store Customer Service department using the form on their Contact page and let them know about the problem.

  • Search in start menu don't work, Windows 7, sp1.

    Hi guys!
    I have this really annoying problem with my newly install Win7 pro, sp1.
    The Start Menu Search doesn't work. All I get are 3 files that look like categories (Programs, Control Panel and Files).
    The normal search , in file explorer, works though.
    What I've tried so far:
    I have enabled search in the Start Menu Settings. In Customize Start Menu I have enabled "Search with public folders" and "Search programs and Control Panel".
    I have reset my search indexing several times. I have tried different registry tweaks suggested in forums like these like these:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/cc594db0-dbe8-4255-a259-5c1914318c3d/search-in-start-menu-stopped-working

    Non of these suggestions worked for me. I tried importing the registry keys below as suggested by some posts above:
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{ef87b4cb-f2ce-4785-8658-4ca6c63e38c6}]
    "CanonicalName"="StartMenu"
    "Mode"=dword:00000001"
    PerceivedType"=dword:00000000
    "Theme"="default"
    "MostRelevant"="prop:System.Author;System.Keywords"
    "LayoutType"=dword:00000001
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{ef87b4cb-f2ce-4785-8658-4ca6c63e38c6}\TopViews]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FolderTypes\{ef87b4cb-f2ce-4785-8658-4ca6c63e38c6}\TopViews\{00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000}]
    "Name"="NoName"
    "Order"=dword:00000000
    "GroupBy"="System.StartMenu.Group"
    "PrimaryProperty"="System.StartMenu.Group"
    "SortByList"="prop:-System.Search.Rank;-System.DateModified;System.ItemNameDisplay"
    "LogicalViewMode"=dword:00000001
    This also didn't do anything.
    I can't find anything else online that addresses this problem. Now I'm getting a little desperate. I'm no novice when it comes to Windows. I have spoken to seasoned Windows tech support people (not from MS). None of them nor I have ever seen this problem
    before. There is very not much help online. Can anybody please help pointing me in the right direction.
    Cheers

    Hi,
    Anything recorded in the event log? You can check the event viewer.
    Regarding to the index option you mentioned, verify that the Start Menu is in the list of indexing option, then check the selected location under indexed location of start menu
    If possible, I suggest you create a new user account, then copy the old files to the new user profile, please refer to this link

  • Start Menu items/shotcuts and Start Menu search ability on multiple workstations

    2/13/2014 our IT department began to receive complaints of missing programs. After investigation of a few users we were able to determine that the programs existed but all shortcuts and items from the start menu had been completely removed. In addition the
    searching feature of the start menu was not functional. This happened to about 90% of our environment and the catalyst seemed to be Windows updates or at least occurred after the auto reboot initiated by Windows Updates.  The only items visible in start
    menu were items added after the fact, internet explorer, magnifier, command prompt, and notepad. All other items, folders, and the ability to search installed programs or folders were completely removed. However all programs are present in the program files
    folders. THe start menu folder in program data was empty except for the aforementioned items. Additionally properties of start menu had all necessary checks in boxes such as search program files and folders etc. Also show hidden items and folders is enabled
    for many users so the items were not hidden but gone. And the biggest kicker of all was after a full domain investigation into the issues we found that the majority of our windows server platforms, primarily 2008, were also affected and system restore is unavailable.
    This conflicts with our idea that Windows Updates caused this since our servers get their updates on a manual initiated basis by their admins which we have not performed as of yet for this month. This caused me to begin looking at SCCM SCEP as all systems
    have System Center Endpoint Protection and received definition updates. Also accessing different user profiles or even a new profile did not make a difference, issue still present.
    Due to the enormous inconvenience we sent out a company wide email asking users to perform system restores to get us in a stable state. A system restore to the day before Windows updates (second Wednesday of every month configured by SCCM SCUP) restored
    the start menu items.
    On a multitude of machines IT performed troubleshooting and system restores recording the changes removed and added. We then, on a healthy machine, started to apply the windows updates and SCEP (antivirus) definitions 1 by 1 with out success of replicating
    the issue. Next we performed a system wide antivirus full scan and did not find any viruses. This is obviously not a system criticle issue bringing us down but is a huge concern for us in IT as it happened company wide and caused a large flux of tickets and
    some down time for non-technical users. We most definitely want to know the cause and after several days of investigation and troubleshooting Im turning to the Microsoft community for help.
    I know I categorized this as a Windows 7 issue and its affecting windows server 2008, 2003, and 7, but I did not see a forum for all windows platforms. Since the majority of affected users are Windows 7 I opened it here.
    So to summarize in a bulleted format:
    Issue: Wide spread issue affecting around 60-70 users and servers, all profiles, were all start menu items save one or two system defaults were removed. Additionally the searching feature for the start menu looks to be broken as programs
    exist in program files and are unsearchable from start menu. IT was also affected and I remain affected until I find the cause.
    Investigation and Troubleshooting:
    Start menu properties: nothing has changed and search options are enabled.
    Missing items are not hidden, hiding and unhiding does nothing and folder options show hidden files is checked.
    Program data start menu location is indeed empty as well as user app data start menu location
    No group policy's are in place altering start menu items and no group policy changes were made as of recent
    No SCCM packages pushed company wide in last month or pushed individually
    Windows Updates occurred on windows 7 machines only before the issue occurred and computers restarted and the issue surfaced
    System Center Endpoint Protection Antivirus updates and definitions deployed just before the occurrence with windows updates. SCEP def updates happen on all windows boxes to include servers
    Paint.exe was completely missing from system32 folder for some users machines to include my own
    System restore to that morning before restarts or previous day fixes the issue for windows 7 users
    No windows updates were initiated on any servers
    Servers were also affected with windows 7 machines
    About half the users affected had corrupt Microsoft Office 2013 Pro Plus Click to Run installations and for some the system restore did not fix this and we had to re-install office for around 10 users
    SCEP antivirus did not catch any viruses that could cause this, I performed MBAM scans on a handful of machines and didn't find anything either.
    Re-creating start menu shortcuts works
    Happened to two of our companies locations NH and MA, all part of the same domain but different LANS of course. Companies are interconnected by MPLS connection.
    I combed through SCCM to see if anything deployed and found nothing. Currently I have SCUP updates and SCEP updates disabled. I will post a list of Windows Updates that occurred when the issue occurred as well as the SCEP updates. I have read all the threads
    about this types of issues and tried all steps without success. Googling the issue also did not rear results.

    Hi,
    I would like to suggest you try these steps to figure out what could be causing this problem.
    1. Run Troubleshooter
    Open the Search and Indexing troubleshooter
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Open-the-Search-and-Indexing-troubleshooter
    2. Create a new library and include fewer folders for test purpose. Now search for a file from that folder. See if it works.
    Create a new library
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Create-a-new-library
    3. Try to rebuild search indexing. Refer the steps from the following article.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Change-advanced-indexing-options
    Also you may use the System File Checker tool (SFC.exe) to check the issue. The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.
    How to use the System File Checker tool to troubleshoot missing or corrupted system files on Windows Vista or on Windows 7

    In addition, you may refer to the following Microsoft TechNet article for the Windows Search related Group Policies.
