OSX Server 10.7.5 - 10.9 (Mavericks) how?

It's unclear to me how to upgrade to Mavericks (10.9) given that I currently have OSX Server 10.7.5 installed. When I try the upgrade the system tells me that 10.8 is a prerequisite. I would be happy to install 10.8.x, yet I can't find an easy way to do this. Certainly the App Store does not seem to provide a way to download 10.8.
Please advise.

Tech Specs for OS X Mavericks is here:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5842
Which means there should be no problems in 'purchasing' the free OS X from the App Store followed by the Server App (which is not free) from the same store. Which is essentially what this support page is saying:
https://www.apple.com/osx/server/how-to-upgrade/
As ever with any upgrade (and especially on a working server) you should plan very carefully how you're going to do the upgrade. At its most basic you should backup, backup and for good measure backup. I would also have a fall back position in place just in case the server upgrade breaks or mangles your databases for OD, Mail, Collaboration, Profile Manager plus anything else 3rd-Party or non-Apple stock install you may have added into the mix. A fallback position at its most simplest could be a fully working and bootable clone of your server as it stands immediately prior to the upgrade. That way if anything does break you can quickly revert back to a known good working server. All you need is an externally attached drive that is of the same size or larger of what you have in your current server. Some experienced server administrators would clone the existing server onto another comparable hardware and place it in a separate test environment. Run the upgrade in that environment and test, test, test. Once you're happy go for upgrade on your real server.

  • I have a Mac OSX Server - can this be upgraded to Mavericks?

Am confused about whether I can update my OSX Server to Mavericks?( I have 4GB of memory.)  And if so, which application do I choose to do so - Safari?

So the first question is, what version of OS X Server are you running now and what model machine is it running on?  The second question is what services is your current server running?  The third question is what client devices are you supporting?  These will help answer if you can or should.
If you decide you want to the general process is:
1:  MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A BACKUP.  This is not just that you have some files in two places.  Make sure you have a regression plan in the event the upgrade fails.  I can not stress this enough.
2:  Upgrade the device to Mavericks 10.9.2.  This is "purchasable" through the Apple App Store.  Please note, Mavericks 10.9.x is free.  However, you need to associate it with an Apple ID.
3:  Purchase Server.app from the App Store.  This is $20 USD.
4:  Run Server.app to upgrade your services.  Test.  Cross fingers.

  • Out of Office (OSX Server 3.0.3)

We have OSX Server 3.0.3 running on Mavericks 10.9.2.
We have the mail server running with 20 users.
We use Thunderbird to deal with client  emails.
In previous versions, out of office rules were set up and done via the web interface.
As Apple have now dropped this in the latest version, we are struck.
Staff need to be able to inform customers when they are out and about and not at their desk.
Without creating rules in Thunderbird and leaving the client Macs on whilst away, what are the options?
    Any suggestions most welcome.
    Thanks

  • How do I re-install my Mac OSX Server from scratch

    Hi,
I have purchased two MacMini Servers with 10.6 OSX Server software pre-installed.
I have changed the organization as our company name changed and run into license issues.
I want to re-install the Mac OSX Server software and start from scratch. How do I go about this. I tried yesterday for many hours to do so and the new installs are still running into duplicate license issues and other issues. What is the best approach to do re-install? I am willing to erase the internal Hard Disk and boot (with an external DVD optical drive) if that is the best way to go. What are the steps?
I have the original CDs or DVDs and have extra, external hard disks to do a Time Machine backup, etc.
    Thanks,
    Don

If you are looking to do a nuke and pave of the system, and you have an external optical drive, then yes, that is likely the most direct method. Connect the optical drive, insert the installation DVD, and reboot the system targeting the optical disk as the boot volume (you can do this by holding down the C key or the Option key during startup).
Now, if you do not have an optical drive, you can put the installation disk into another Mac running 10.6 and use the Remote Install Mac OS X application in your Utilities folder.
    Hope this helps

  • How do I install Mavericks without invoking the OSX Server Plugin?

How do I perfrom a clean install of Mavericks from the Recovery Partition without it automatically installing, and then invoking or executing the OSX Server Plugin that ultimately results in rendering open directory operable as well as the server.  I have ignored this continously, but the other day I went into the terminal and typed ARP -s that lists the shortname for the host of my MacBook Pro and it gave a totally different name than what I had given it in the wi-fi network interface under the WINS tab. More importantly, I do not want to install open directory nor the osx server plugin as it opens up more complexity than I want to deal with.  Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  BTW, below are the steps I performed for installing Mavericks.
    1. Powered on the MacBook Pro and then hit the Option key.
    2. This took me into the Recovery Partition, whereby I went into the Disk Util and erased or formatted the hard-drive.
    3. I then clicked out of the Disk Utility and went into the Recovery Mode by clicking on reinstall the current OS.
    4. I went through all the prompts and the system downloaded a current version of Mavericks.
    5. After completion, I turned on my Macbook Pro and went through the prompts to install Mavericks.
    6. This is all I did, and I didn't download the OSX plugin nor invoke it in the new version of the Operating System.
I just assumed that it was a standalone version until I found the server for osx running with open directory invoked, the server invoked, along
with other components relative to a new standalone version.
Again, my question is simple: How can I reinstall Mavericks without it downloading and automatically
iinvoking the components as described above?

Hi. Because both Mavericks and Windows 8 are still new, they may not be free of error. Apple needs more time to perform more tests to ensure that these two different OS's will work properly without getting in conflicts. If it's posdible, I highly recommand you to downgrade back to Lion or Mountain Lion and install Windows 7 (if you have a copy of it). In my experience, all advises from Genius Bar members and computer articles confirm that  Windows 7 will work on Macs with Lion OS. It should also work on Mountain Lion. Besides Boot Camp, you could try to virtualize Windows OS and its applications by using VirtualBox, CrossOver and other VMs. I already have an Oracle VirtualBox but I would like to try Boot Camp since it allows me to enjoy almost all Windows features that may be limited in VMs.

  • Server File Sharing unstable on mac and windows network on Mavericks and OSX Server 3.0

Since I've updated our mac mini server from Mountain Lion and OSX Server 2.X to Mavericks and OSX Server 3.0  we are having sharing issues with Windows (7 and 8) and OSX Mavericks users, not being able to access files on the mac mini server.
What I've notice is that OSX Serer 3.0 stop working and I have to restart the Mac Mini Server to make things start working again.
This was not happening with Mountain Lion and OSX Server 2.X.
On the Windows and OSX users what happen is the computers keep trying to connect to the server and are not being able to open or copy files. Again this is intermittent, and I suspect it might be a OSX Server bug.
Any one having the same problem or can give us and advice would be great help.
    Thanks.
    Andre Tenenbaum

I too am having this exact problem as well as a few of my network administrator contacts that have gone through the Mavericks / Server 3 upgrade.
It may be worth noting that before the upgrade I had run a mac mini server (core 2 duo) that never had any unintentional downtime, and the current mac server had never gone down or lost connection so I know it has nothing to do with user or network configuration.
    NAS server hardware:
    - Mac Mini core i5
    - 16 GiB ram
    -  Promise Pegasus Raid5 external drive (thunderbolt)
I am NOT running time machine as the backup.
Everyting posted above is occuring although the rate at which my users lose acces is sporadic.  Sometimes the server will stay up 24-36 hours and sometimes it will only stay up for around 4.  Every user, every group loses acces AT THE EXACT SAME TIME EVERYTIME to EVERY SHAREPOINT...all of my local users as well as my remote users.  All of my users are on Windows machines (mostly win7, but a couple of XP and 8 users as well).  The share is accessed via a mapped drive using the format x.x.x.x/share and I have had 0 issues with getting users connected.  The problem is 100% keeping them connected.  When the users lose access the get the "drive cannot be accessed" error on their end, however when I check the server 3 app, it still shows all users connected and I have let it run for a few minutes and the idle times do change.
I also cannot see any spikes in the Activity monitor that might indicate a memory strain issue on the server side, but I assume that is because I am not watching the Activity Monitor at the moment everyone loses access.
Let me say that the SMB2 protocol does work much better when it actually works, much faster, but intermitent connectivity is a VERY SERIOUS ISSUE and has resulted in several corrupt files for my workers already.  Also, because I was one of the unfortunate people that had the upgrade lock up on me and I had to restart it, I lost my 10.8.x recover backup and so I would have to do a clean install in order to restore my server back to its original state. I am also hesitant to do this because I would most likely only be able to download the Server3 app from the app store and I have not heard from apple or any other power user group on whether the bug is with the app or the OS.

    http://www.noupe.com/ajax/10-ajax-webmail-clients.html

  • How can local user send message to other user via OSX server in mac maverick

I just install OS X server in mac mavericks and enable services such as message, DNS, VPN, etc. I also create local users and local network users. I add some local users from OSX server to Message app in order to message to server, but I cannot send any message to those user, even Bonjour is available but I cannot use it to send message in local network.
I already followed all Server Help in Messages like in this image:
I try to access to my local OS X server via IP address by using other PC, Mac and iPhone and I can get this interface:
I already try in iPhone to send message to local user in OS X server after accessing to OS X server via IP Address, but I don't know how local user can get that message and I see nothing in message_archives of message data of server. Therefore, how each user in OSX server can message to each other across OSX server ? Does Admin have to write some codes or make configuration for providing message services to those users ?
    Message was edited by: chhanmalin

Client users need to use XMPP client app to log in to server with account name like in server , then user can send message to other users in server. Client users can use iphone, pc, or mac.

I  have update my software to osx maverick, when i was reading the support web page i understood it to say that i have to update osx server as well.

If you were using the OSX Server before, yes, you do have to update it by buying it at the App Store. If you were not using the server, you don't need it for Mavericks to run.

  • Maverick osx server and dnssec for dns master/slave services

    Hi,
I have some questions to the maverick osx server.
Is this possible to configure dnssec keys for the maverick osx dns server?
Where are the configuration files from the dns server located?
    Thomas

Okay - shortly after posting I found the checkbox "allow zone transfer" in the zone settings but there seems to be no way to control which secondary servers are allowed.
Anyhow I would like to know, where the config and zone files ar on Yosemite Server.

  • About OSX Server and Mavericks

I bought on Okt 2 OSX Server 2.2.2 and was installed. Then on okt 24 I got OS Mavericks as a free download, but the server was not updated but thrown away from my computer. Wenn I want to download OSX Server 3.0 I have to pay again. Why?

It is a major paid upgrade from v2 to v3. Apple has no idea about the timing of your downloads and choices about what you want to buy.

  • Websites were deleted from configuration after Maverick OSX Server Update

Websites were deleted from configuration after Maverick OSX Server Update.  My subversion access was also overwritten and no longer works.

if that was a bug report, then Apple might or might not see it here.  There's a Provide Server Feedback in the menus of Server.app, if you'd like to let the Server.app folks know about the upgrade problems I've encountered.
If you're looking for help resetting the web sites (I'm not clear if you're reporting a bug or looking for help with this), then check Server.app for where the files should be (the default location is under /Library/Server/Web/Data directory) and see where your current sites are stored in the file system, establish the Site via Server.app (usually with a directory under the  /Library/Server/Web/Data path) and move the contents over to the new location.
As for the Outlook comment in your footer, Microsoft Outlook also generally needs to have the FQDN requirements removed in the SMTP HELO processing.  Outlook doesn't send that, and the default Postfix configuration will reject those connections as spam.  Here's a discussion of how to do this.  (I don't see a path to the HELO processing via sudo serveradmin settings mail:postfix commands.)

  • How to customize mavericks' mac osx server apache configuration?

I have installed Mac OSX Mavericks Server and I would like to add some features to the Apache Server (gitolite, redmine, etc.) I've started with updating the httpd_server_app.conf file in/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2 but unfortunately it has been overwritten by the server to its default. Maybe because I've updated something in the UI, or an update occurred... Anyway, I would like to know how can I update the configuration file in a permanent and persistent way, and still benefit the OSX Server UI and/or updates...
I've probably missed the big : "Put your own things here:" label...
PS: By the way, I wish to modify some of the current configuration, not only adding things...

If you scroll down through the standard httpd_server_app.conf file you will eventually find a section full of include options. (Some of which are commented out.)
One of these enabled include options is for /Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/other/*.conf
The implication of this is that if you put your own httpd.conf file in the 'other' directory then any settings you put in it will be included in your Apache configuration and will not be over-written by Apple's Server.app software.

  • Fresh install Mavericks, then install OSX Server 3.1.1, it doesn't work

    Using a mac mini.
    Wiped the hard drive clean.
    Installed Mavericks.
    Created 1 user.
Right away, went to the App Store and installed OSX Server.
    Ran the Server.app.
    It said everything went ok.
    It didn't.
Trying to see what could have gone wrong. I found the /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Data is empty and the logs keep spamming how nothing can connect to the Postgre Database.
I will try to get more logs in here. However I am trying an install from the recovery partition at the moment.
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.
