Outgoing server password not retained

I have configured my iPhone for 2 email accounts: gmail and OptOnline. According to my ISP (OptOnline), I must use their outgoing mail server. OK, no problem.
I configured my outgoing server to be the OptOnline server, along with my username and password and I'm able to send email.
The problem is that my password is not retained. So 10 minutes later, I cannot send email. When I look at the Advanced Mail settings, the Outgoing Server password field is blank. It should contain asterisks like the other password fields.
Any ideas?

You are not meant to see passwords.  Usually the Outgoing password is the same as the Incoming.

Can anyone tell me how to see my outgoing server password on my email account? I'm trying to set up email on my cellphone and it keeps telling me I have the wrong password. It works on my ipad so I want to see it to make sure I'm putting the right thing on my phone.

  • Entering and re-entering outgoing server password

i am getting extremely frustrated at being prompted to enter my outgoing server password and my outgoing mail keeps getting hung up.
does anyone know if it is OK (or not OK) to check remember this password in my keychain and/or why is it still prompting me for this? I am having a devil of a time getting mail to go out and for some reason my domain based email shows up as online but keeps prompting for a password and smtp.gmail.com shows up as OFFLINE and /also/ keeps prompting me for an outgoing server password.
i mean, i presume this is the the same as my GMail account password, right?!
    Grrrrr.

multiple machines. single point on all of them would be the router or modem, any new hardware in the mix, or a fix for something from your ISP?
Try '''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Safe_mode safe mode with Networking]'''. This loads only the very basics needed to start your computer while enabling an Internet connection. Click on your operating system for instructions on how to start in safe mode: [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-including-safe-mode Windows 8], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-7 Windows 7], [http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/start-computer-safe-mode#start-computer-safe-mode=windows-vista Windows Vista], [http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/boot_failsafe.mspx?mfr=true" Windows XP], [http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1564 OSX]
I have recently seen issues caused by bank security software and tokens from the US military. Safe mode basically disable all of that sort of stuff so a clean connection can be attempted.

Yes, how does it get changed in the online "Mail Settings Lookup"  It is wrong there, but right in my mail preferences.  My Charter Account is locked on my computer.

  • FTP Passwords not retained.  Business Catalyst widget not functioning correctly

    I am using OS X 10.10.3, Dreamweaver 2014.1.1 Build 6982.
I am unable to connect to my remote server through business catalyst.  it tells me that my credentials are incorrect and to check the settings.
I check my credentials for the ftp server and it is not retaining the password.  I re-type the password and test connection.  No problems.
I try to connect to remote site again to update pages and the same problem happens.  I go back to site settings and the ftp password is blank again.
I have followed the steps described in the known issue page and it did nothing to help .
the add on widget for business catalyst is not able to connect to the site either.
I would really like to find a fix to this asap as I need to update my site via Dreamweaver.
Note. I am able to connect to the web portal for my business catalyst site without issues, so it is not a problem with my account.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Scott,
First of all, could you try to log in to the Business Catalyst Admin Dashboard of your site and check if you are able to log in from there.
Could you uninstall BC DW add in on DW CC from Extension manager and also from https://creative.adobe.com/addons
I would recommend you to uninstall BC add in from both places and then install BC Add in from https://creative.adobe.com/addons  as well as download and install the add in via Extension manager ( https://creative.adobe.com/addons/patches/4965/install  )
Let me know by trying these steps, if that works or not.
    Thanks.

  • Admin Server password not working

Running Netscape Directory Server 4.1 on Solaris 9.
    I see this:
    [root@arthur]> ldapsearch -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w ******** -b o=netscaperoot "cn=admin-serv-arthur" passwordexpirationtime
    cn=admin-serv-arthur, cn=Netscape Administration Server, cn=Server Group, cn=arthur.cusys.edu, ou=cusys.edu, o=NetscapeRoot
    passwordexpirationtime=20060215123431
But when I try to modify via:
    [root@arthur]> ldapmodify -D "cn=Directory Manager" -w ******** -f pwexptime.ldif
    where pwexptime.ldif is:
    dn: cn=admin-serv-arthur, cn=Netscape Administration Server, cn=Server Group,
    cn=arthur.cusys.edu, ou=cusys.edu, o=NetscapeRoot
    chnagetype:modify
    replace:passwordexpirationtime
    passwordexpirationtime: 20090215123431
    I get:
    modifying entry cn=admin-serv-arthur, cn=Netscape Administration Server, cn=Server Group,cn=arthur.cusys.edu, ou=cusys.edu, o=NetscapeRoot
    ldap_modify_s: Object class violation
I can't find passwordexpirationtime as an attribute for any of the associated admin-serv-arthur object classes, thus the object class violation. Then where did it come from in the ldapsearch above?
How do I change this passwordexpirationtime attribute?

What about changing the password of this account itself.
AFAICR (as this werver is quite out-of-date) passwordexirationtime is a operational attribute set by the server itself.
    Read out userpassword with ldapsearch.
use ldapmodify to changeit to some value
use ldapmodify again to set it back to the old value.
    General advice:
It seems youre using a password policy.
As this old server does not have scoped password policies (like the new server does) you should set up a separate Directory Server instance which holds the "o=netscapeRoot" tree. This one is called the configuration directory server - and it's best practice to have it as a different instance.
    -Bernhard
Of course ugrading to Directory Server 5.2 is adviced as well because the version you are using is already end of support live.

  • Mail outgoing server choice not sticking

I've got Mail set up to only use one outgoing server (or a default server), but it is not abiding by this and instead wants to default to my iCloud outgoing server. Does anyone know how to clear this issue and get things working correctly again? Also, the default server that I want to use (and was using just fine until this problem began) is for an Exchange account.
    Thanks

Please follow these directions to delete the Mail "sandbox" folder.
    Back up all data.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.mail" selected. If it does, move the selected folder — not just its contents — to the Desktop. Leave the Finder window open for now.
Log out and log back in. Launch Mail and test. If the problem is resolved, you may have to recreate some of your Mail settings. You can then delete the folder you moved and close the Finder window. If you still have the problem, quit Mail again and put the folder back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Post your results.
Caution: If you change any of the contents of the sandbox, but leave the folder itself in place, Mail may crash or not launch at all. Deleting the whole sandbox will cause it to be rebuilt automatically.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard (command-C). In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Iphone4 - Two Gmail Accounts - Outgoing server does not work anymore

I started using my private Gmail account on my Iphone and everything worked fine (having found help in Youtube videos about how to set up Ingoing/Outgoing server).
Now I added my Gmail account from work (ends on .nl instead of .com - Dont know if that matters). I can now access both inboxes but I cannot send emails from BOTH accounts. I then deleted the new account but still cannot send emails from my first account anymore.
I found that under "settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars->Gmail Account->AccountInfo->OutgoingMailserver SMTP" I now have a primary server which seems to connect to my first account and several "other SMTP server" which contain either details of the first account or the second account (which I actually deleted aleady).
Should I delete those additional servers? How can I do this? Does anyone have experience with this kind of issue?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

I did put all the informations and still it does not work telling that these informations are not right!!!!

  • Outgoing server does not work when I email

I have set up my iPhone tu work with Hotmail and it works with the ingoing server but I can't send mails. When I try to send mails it says: The connection to the outgoing server smtp.live.com failed.
    Can anyone help.
I am a premium hotmail user.

The problem is probably the wrong host name. If you have an MSN account the outgoing server may be different than it is for Hotmail. If you log in to your web mail account and go to the Support page you should be able to find instructions to set up POP3 mail. In those instructions should be the host name, port, and any other settings you need.
Usually you just enter the first part of your email address as the user name, but you should be able to confirm this in the POP3 setup instructions. If the user name alone doesn't work then try the full email address. Also, if you have a login name to MSN that is different from your email address you can try that also.
Regarding the "<hostname>:25" entry, many people have found that email sends faster if you specify the port number; if you don't, the iPhone tries all possible ports which can take several minutes. This isn't your problem, but it is good practice to specify the port number. In versions before 1.1.1 the only way to do this was to put the port number after the host name, separated by a colon. In 1.1.1 there is a separate field for in in the Advanced settings.
It would be helpful to know the error message you are getting when you try to send. That will determine whether the iPhone is not finding the server, or is finding it but the send is being rejected by the server.
Keep at it; there is a way to get it to work.

  • Outgoing Server password authentication trouble

Having trouble sending emails from my iphone.
I have followed the instructions provided by my email service. The only thing I don't seem able to set up correctly is for the Outgoing Mail Server.
When I choose 'password' from the authentication options (as instructed) and then go back a page ('password' is now shown next to 'Authentication' indicating that I have chosen 'password' correctly) and press 'done' .........some sort of verification process occurs and 'account verified' is shown.
However i still cant send emails and when I look in Outgoing Mail Server again  'password' has disappeared from being the selected option next to 'Authentication' (there is nothing selected next to 'Authentication')
I actually done have any idea what any of this means. I am just following some provided setup instructions, the only bit of which I can't nail is this password issue, hence my assumption that this is the cause of my failure to send emails. I guess it might be something completely unrelated.
If it helps the error message I get when emails don't go is 'The sender address -my email address - was rejected by the server'
    Thanks in advance

You are not meant to see passwords.  Usually the Outgoing password is the same as the Incoming.

  • Server password not recognised?

I am trying to remotely configure my Mac Mini with Snow Leopard. At the first login in Server Admin, I am asked for a password. Server guide advises me that the password is the fist 8 digits of the serial number but this is not recognised.
    Can anyone help?

    Hi Rgould413,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on exactly where you are at with regards to re-adding your mail accounts. If you are still having issues with your Mail on your iOS devices, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • Outgoing Server does not recognise POP account

I've just set up 2 POP mail accounts on mac mail, I also have a .mac mail account.
I can receive messages from the POP mail accounts but I can't send emails using POP mail accounts. I'm getting this message when I try -
The sender address [email protected] was rejected by the server
The server response was: 5.1.0 <[email protected]>... From address does not match authentication.
I can still send mail from my .mac account, that works perfectly ok.
can anybody offer any suggestions please

Sounds like the outgoing mail server for these POP accounts is authenticated.
Are these POP accounts provided by your internet service provider used for connecting to the internet or other?
If the SMTP server is authenticated, what are the provided/required settings for this SMTP server?
If these POP accounts are not provided by your ISP, are you also accessing an email account and SMTP server that is provided by your ISP with Mail and if so, are you able to send messages with this account?

  • Recent mail from POP acct server is not retained in mail app

In recent weeks (maybe months) iPhone email appears to be acting differently with my POP accounts. All POP accounts keep the mail on the server until deleted on a desktop. I have iPhone mail set to show last 100 emails. Emails are coming in and are usually (not always) shown on all four devices where POP clients download mail - including my iPhone. What has changed is that when an email is more than 100 emails back in the que - even though it is still in desktop Outlook and my MacBook Pro Mail inbox an on the server - it no longer appears in the iPhone inbox, it does not load from the server when I select load more, it cannot be found in an iPhone email search which searches the phone and server. It has simply disappeared from the iPhone email app even though it still exists on the (Yahoo Bizmail) server and in all other POP accounts. This is not the behavior of the Mail App before 6.x, even though all settings are the same including do not remove from server. Anybody else having this problem?

POP will do weird things like this. That's why POP should be avoided if it can. I would contact the email provider to see if they support IMAP. Using POP on device should resolve this issue.
Below is great Apple resource that explains about using POP on multiple devices and how it can cause issues.

    I hope this helps!

  • Mount volume with windows server password (not remembering the password)

    Hello,
I have a setup through "System Preferences" "Users & Groups" "Login Items", wherein there is a volume which is mounted upon login. Set volume is within a Windows Server domain, for which I have credentials to login.
My question is related, to the fact that OSX (under Snow Leopard nor Lion), seems to remeber the password for said login, even though the checkbox for "remeber this password, etc." is set. So everyday I need to type in my password for it to mount the volume.

  • HT1911 Apple ID password not retained

Can anyone help please.  For the past few weeks everytime I go to log in to my Apple store account, Apple's system does not recognise the stored password.  I have reset the password numerous times, and it still will NOT let me access my account.  I am getting so frustrated with the mongrel thing that I am ready to toss Apple Store and ITunes out the window.
Everytime I reset the password I store the new password in a Password software programme I use, so I KNOW I am using the correct password.  I have just reset the password a few minutes ago and have the new password sitting right in front of me.  Still I cannot access my account.
    Anyone with solutions please.
I am quite happy to close the account - only problem is I cannot access my account to even do that.  Good on ya  Apple!!!

Ok, sounds like you are reseting the password for the wrong Apple ID, or something else is happening.
