Outlook Contacts Advanced Find

Hey guys, trying to do a search of the "Department" field for the contacts in my GAL in Outlook 2010. Noticed however that I'm only able to search on the first word contained in the Department field for any particular user. If the department field
contains more than one word, I'm not able to search on it. (See screenshot).
For example, the attached screenshot shows a user whose Department is "Investor Services". If I search "Investor" in Outlook Contacts using Advanced Find, this user shows in the results. However if I search for "Services", I get no results. Exchange
server is 2007. Also getting the same results with a subsidiary company of ours who just moved to Office 365 (searching on the Department field only works for the first word in the field).
Tried posting the question in Exchange forums, since it seems like an issue with Exchange Search Indexing not indexing the entire contents of the field. (See
here). It was suggested I try the Outlook forum instead.
Anyone else have this problem? Is this by design, and if so, is there some kind of work-around other than downloading the GAL to my local contacts?
Shaun

Hi Shaun,
Per my test and research, this is by design.
Thanks,
Evan

  • Outlook 2010 Advanced Find Contacts Not Working

    Some Outlook 2010 Advanced Find criteria work but the "email is not empty" and "email is empty" criteria return no results though there are contacts that have the Email field populated.

    Hi,
    Are you using Search Tools > Advanced Find > Advanced tab > Field > Email Fields > Email? Please make sure you selected the correct Contacts folder when you perform the search.
    We can also try remove Outlook from the indexing location to check the result. To do this, click Search Tools > Search Options > Indexing Options > Modify > clear the check box before Outlook...
    Please let me know the result.

  • Outlook 2010, Advanced Find, 'Where I am the only person on the TO line' not working

    Outlook 2010 running in online mode with Exchange 2010 SP3.
    When performing an Advanced Find, clicking the check box 'Where I am:' and selecting 'the only person on the To line', the search results return email messages where there are multiple people in the To
    line.
    Does anyone have any insight on this, and is there a custom search I can perform for similar results in the Advanced tab?
    Thank you

    Unable to repro it here. What if we enable cached Exchange mode, will this issue continue?
    In addition, meeting items will ignore the 'Where I am: the only person on the To line' criteria when searching. Make sure these search results are not meeting items.

  • Understanding Advanced Find in Outlook and Exchange Online Mode

    Hi,
    we do see a behaviour in Advanced Find where I'm not sure if it is a bug or "by Design". This only happens when online mode of Outlook is used. Please do not advise to use Cached Moded as we are talking about a Remotedesktop-Services environment
    and it is not possible to use Cached Mode here.
    When we use "Advanced Find" in Outlook to find sent Messages by the name of the sender we are not able to just enter for example the last name of the sender and get results. As soon was we use the button "Sent to" and choose an account
    from the GAL or own contacts we will see results. The issue is: Not all messages sent people are in the GAL or personal contacts. So the search is useless at all.
    Search with just the last name - no results:
    Search with User selected from the GAL (or local contacts) we will get results:
    Is this a bug or "by Design"

    Hi Peter,
    What's the version of Exchange server you are using?
    It seems that the searching hasn't finished from the first screenshot you attached. The
    Stop button is still clickable.
    According to my testing in my Outlook 2013 environment, it took a long time to finish the searching when using Online Exchange mode, however, it should work when searching with just the last name. This is a known issue that
    Outlook Online
    mode is having a considerable amount of delay when performing an
    advanced search, and we haven't found a solid solution for this. Please wait until the searching finishing (the
    Stop button become grayed out, just like it in the second screenshot), and then check if it returns any results.
    Please let me know the result.

  • Microsoft Outlook Advanced Find

     I use Microsoft Advance Find for my everyday job. We depend on it to work everyday. Wednesday January 1st the Advanced Find has not been properly working. When searching for emails or messages by a certain name it picks some names up and then it
    misses other names. There is no consistency for what it is finding and not finding. I work for a company that has a IS Help Desk. We have been working with them since Wednesday the 1st and they have not come up with a solution for the problems we are having.
    Any advise would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    What steps have you tried yet?
    I suggest you rebuild the index in Windows:
    For Windows 7: Start -> type "index" in the search field. At the top click on "Indexing Options". Click on
    Advanced then Rebuild.
    For Windows 8, 8.1: Search -> type "Indexing Options" in the search field. At the top click on "Indexing Options". Click on
    Advanced then Rebuild.
    I hope this helps.

  • Outlook contacts sync puts some 1st AND last names in iPhone 1st name

    After I initially synched all my Outlook contacts onto my new iPhone, some of the names show up on the iPhone as "lastname firstname" (which is what I want), but some show up as "firstname lastname". The problem with this is that they don't sort correctly. I've looked into the Outlook contact, and, in both cases, they have the correct firstname and lastname fields. In the iPhone contact, the entire name (firstname lastname) is in the iPhone firstname field and the lastname field is blank. I can find no other difference between the correctly synched contact and the incorrectly synched contact.
    Any suggestions??

    The sync messed up somehow. Sync does that sometimes.
    If you plug in the phone, but don't sync it yet, I believe there is an option somewhere (labeled Advanced) to overwrite the information on the phone with information from your computer. You might try that, for contacts. Explore all the iPhone panels in iTunes.
    Alternatively, delete all your contacts on the phone and re-sync.
    Caveat: I'm no sync expert and don't use windows.

  • 900+ outlook contacts...want to sync only 250 of them, help!

    if there is a magical way to sync only some of your outlook contacts (computer is a PC, if that matters), please help! i have over 900 outlook contacts but do not want most of them to appear in my iphone contact list. help! scrolling through so many contacts is dreadful.
    thanks in advance...

    Out of curiosity, have you tried doing it the other way around?
    That is: editing contacts from iPhone and syncing to Outlook?
    Outlook allows an export (well, Entourage does so I'd assume something similar in Outlook).

  • Nokia 6720 classic, synchronise Outlook contacts &...

    Firstly 6720 classic does not appear in the menu of handsets when downloading PC suite, any suggestions?
    Having installed the version for the nearest handset I could find, when I attempt to synchronise I recieve the following report ' your outlook message store might have been moved. Please re-select Outlook profile and required folders'.
    This I have done twice, the folders are corrrect, can anyone help?

    Hello
    I use an old version of outlook express so my solution may not work for you but I'll share it anywho just in case.  I  didn't know you could sync with a folder until I started using Sony PC Suite.  I didn't want any of my outlook contacts on my phone as they are purely pc based email contacts so I found a bit of a cheet which also gives you a good safety net for your contacts.
    I've only tried this with .WAB files so YMMV.
    Go into outlook, open the address book, click "file" and "export" your contacts to a file somewhere you can easily find it then close outlook.
    In windows exploder, go to the file you just created and rename it something useful like 6720contacts.WAB.
    Now if you double click that file it should automatically open the address book without opening outlook.
    Delete all the contacts and resave with the same file name.
    What you should now have is an empty but correctly formatted .WAB file with a memorable name and in a safe but convenient place in your PC file system.
    Next, connect your phone via PC Suite as normal, open the sync application and select settings. You may have to go into advanced settings (I'm not sure) but somewhere in there it allows you to set (a) which type of file you wish to use (ie .WAB) and (b) the path to that file name, for which there is a "browse" button so you don't have to remember the full path. Just set this last one to the file you just created and Roberta's ya Aunty!
    On the "collisions" tab, set to update in one direction and from phone to PC only for this first use.  You can change it later once you have a stored file.
    I would also select contacts only as the bookmarks bit is rubbish on my system but again YMMV.
    Once you've found and changed the right settings, save them, close the settings dialogue box and hit "sync now".
    When syncing is complete, double click the file in exploder once more and you should see a complete list of your contacts.
    What appears will depend on PC Suite version, outlook version, which colums you have set to display and probably phone type.
    When you're all done you can copy the file to a secure folder, floppy disc (what's them like grandad?), CD rom or pen drive to give you a totally secure backup.  Just don't forget to sync the backup each time you sync and you'll be good to go.
    I discovered all the above with an N95 8Gb (Unlocked and debranded) running Euro 1 firmware and NSeries PC suite.
    NSeries PC Suite is the only one I've found which will show more than one mobile number per contact.  It may well say "unsupported" on the sync report but it DOES still store them.
    PCSuite 7 won't show second mobile numbers at all.  I don't know if it will store/restore them and I'm not about to dump my phones contents to find out but feel free to let me know if you try it haha!
    OVI Suite is a malicous hack of a programme.  I installed it as a secound account user and yet it still wiped out NSeries PC Suite on my own log in.
    Anywho, Like I say it depends which versions of each component you're using but I hope the above proves useful for somebody if not yourself.
    Regards

    I just got a new iPad 2 and I have lot of questions. I was able to wirelessly link my iPad and iTunes on my PC. I was able to SYNC my email and calendar (new entries only no history), however I have not been able to SYNC Outlook contacts. Outlook has multiple contact lists. Only one has any data. I can't find a way to delete the others and I can't keep the one I want to use at the top of the list. Any ideas?
    I have a question about email. I have several thousand emails in 10 or so days. How can I select multiple emails for deletion in stead of one at a time? How do I designate emails from a given sender as junk or block certain senders?

  • Lost all my Outlook contacts and phone accounts

    I've just about given up on the iPhone.  After upgrading my 3GS to iOS 5 a month or so ago and installing iCloud on my PC, things began to go bad:
    First I found that I could no longer send e-mail, since all of the out-going server settings (smtp) had disappeared.  No attempts to re-enter the information seemed to work, since all would fail to verify.  I took the problem to the phone's source, AT&T, and watched a support person try to restore the settings for about an hour.  She eventually got one of seven accounts to work, but that fix failed within about an hour of leaving the store.  I spoke to Apple support at length, but to no avail, since I was only sent a PDF of various smtp settings of which I was already aware.  Still no out-going mail from this phone.
    Next I found that my initial success with iCloud, and it's links to my calender and contacts, had mysteriously stopped working.  Not only do my contacts and celander not sync, but my entire Outlook contact folder is empty and I can't find that data anywhere on either the phone or the PC.  The iCloud configuration utility is still around, but offers no help in finding the data.
    If anyone has experienced similar problems, and found some possible solutions, I'd really like to know about it.
    Thanks for any advise.
    STeve

    I did a similar thing but in the other direction. Found this below (after I had already restored from a .xls I had exported of my contacts)You should do that as well, it's a small file and easily replaced. I am not sure if that works as well with Outlook. Also, I downloaded a free app to sync to the web at my.memova.com
    enter one contact in the the Address Book and one calendar event in iCal on your Mac. This will provide a merge prompt with the first sync for this data, which you want to select.

  • URI dialing changed Outlook contact card

    Hello I have provided all the versioning info etc at the bottom of this post.
    The issue we are experiences is as follows. Before enabling SIP URI dialing within our Jabber Client the contact details for a User would display the following fields
    BusinessPhone = person's AD "telephoneNumber" field and the
    Other = persons AD "ipPhone" field
    This was accomplished by way of editing the following values in the jabber-config.xml file
     <Directory>
       <OtherPhone>ipPhone</OtherPhone>
       <BDIOtherPhone>ipPhone</BDIOtherPhone>
     </Directory>
    After Updating the jabber-config.xml file to the one listed below, the following display problem is now occurring in Outlook contact Cards.
    The person's Telephone number is being replaced by the SIP URI (See Screenshot)
    Is there a way to have SIP URI dialing turned on but continue to show the proper phone numbers in the Outlook contact card? If so how is this accomplished?
    Jabber for Windows = 10.5.0
    Windows Version 7
    UCM = 9.1.2.12900
    IMP version = 9.1.1.419000
    Our Jabber XML file looks like this
    </Client>
    <config version="1.0">
     <Options>
       <StartCallWithVideo>false</StartCallWithVideo>
       <AllowUserCustomTabs>true</AllowUserCustomTabs>
     </Options>
     <Policies>
       <InitialPhoneSelection>deskphone</InitialPhoneSelection>
       <Disallowed_File_Transfer_Types>.MSI;.MP3;.AVI;.MP4;.386;.ACM;.ADE;.ADP;.ARJ;.ASP;.AVB;.BAS;.BAT;.BIN;.CGI;.CHM;.CLA;.CLASS;.CMD;.CNV;.COM;.CPL;.CRT;.DLL;.DRV;.EXE;.GMS;.GZ;.HLP;.HTA;.HTT;.INF;.INI;.INS;.ISP;.LNK;.MPD;.MSC;.MSI;.MSP;.MST;.OCX;.OPO;.PCD;.PHP;.PIF;.PL;.PRC;.RAR;.REG;.SCR;.SCT;.SH;.SHB;.SHS;.SYS;.TAR;.TLB;.TSP;.URL;.VB;.VBE;.VBS;.VXD;.WBS;.WBT;.WIZ;.WSC;.WSF;.WSH;.ZIP</Disallowed_File_Transfer_Types>
       <EnableSIPURIDialling>true</EnableSIPURIDialling>
     </Policies>
     <Directory>
       <OtherPhone>ipPhone</OtherPhone>
       <BDIOtherPhone>ipPhone</BDIOtherPhone>
     </Directory>
    </config>

    Thanks Christopher for the update on 2013
    could you comment if there is any fix to how jabber itself displays contacts differently after enabling URI dialing. I find the users are confused by seeing a uri form and not selecting it even though it's a valid way to ring an extension. Should be nice to have both the uri and ipPhone listed.

  • Sync w/outlook contacts does not include notes section

    Syncing between BB and Outlook works perfectly except that the "notes" section of a "contact" does not get transferred to the contact on my BB.  I have looked at the "mapped fields", address book on the BB desktop and find that "device - notes" is supposed to sync with "MS Outlook - body".  This seems backwards as Outlook has a "notes" section but no "body" section.
    BB and desktop upgrades are current.  Computer OS is Win Home Premium 7 64-bit. Outlook is Office 2010.
    Any guidance would be appreciated.  Thank you.

    Surely one of you really smart users has a solution to transfering the "notes" section of an Outlook contact to the BB when doing a general syncronization to BB.  The process used to work but has not worked with the latest upgrade on the BB.  Again any hints will be appreciated.  Thank you.

  • Can't Change, Add or Remove Outlook Contacts Folder in Desktop Software

    I’m using version 7.1.0.41  of the BlackBerry Desktop Software. I recently created a new updated PST file in Outlook 2010. When I looked at the BlackBerry Desktop Software Contacts Configuration by going to Organizer, then  Contacts – Microsoft Outlook: Configure…, Advanced Options: Advanced: Folders, I saw that the Desktop Software had defaulted to the default Contacts folder in my new Outlook profile. This wasn’t the Contacts Folder I had been using with my BlackBerry Curve 9320, so I chose “Select different contacts to sync”, double-clicked on my new Outlook Profile at the Root Level then selected the Contacts Folder I had used previously.
    I found I could not use the Green Add button to add this folder and I couldn’t use the Red Remove button to delete the existing Main Contacts file. If I double-clicked on the Contacts folder which I wanted to use, the correct file path showed under “Select different contacts to sync”. However once I clicked OK and then returned to the Advanced Options, I found that it had reverted back to the original default settings.
    I did notice that Outlook’s main Contacts file which I don’t want to use has a “Contacts” icon while the contacts Folder I want to use has only a generic folder icon. Under “My Contacts” in Outlook, however, all my Contacts files have the same icon. If I try to sync now, the Desktop Software wants to add all the contacts from my main Contacts group to my BlackBerry, which I don’t want. This all worked just fine before I updated my Outlook PST file.
    Thanks for your help with this.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I've now resolved the problem. I had an email folder name "Mobile Contacts" which was causing me to use the wrong path. I needed to open the folder with the Contacts icon to get to the next level down where the Contacts folder I wanted to use was.
    I couldn't add, remove or delete the folder I was attempting to use because it was actually an email folder, not a contacts folder.

  • Problems with Sync with Outlook contacts and calendar (Office 2007)

    I have been able to set up my Blackberry curve with email accounts, but sync with Outlook contacts fails. My device will show as connected, but nothing happens. I continue to get a message if I want to use Mass Storage mode on my phone and I assume this should be checked as yes, then I get a folder showing up on my desktop with "Removable Disk (E, which contains several files.
    When Desktop Manager is opened I get message "Initial Plugin: Verifying Applications" "checking the status of the applications on the device. This is only required on the first connection of the device to a new desktop installation" It shows in the same dialog box "connecting to the device (JVM)...
    The connection hangs and nothing happens. I have reinstalled software and was even told by Verizon Support to exchange the phone (which I did), but the same issue of non-connection for sync is still there.
    Any help/suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    iTunes thread found that sync issue was caused by reoccuring appointments,
    Basically you need to modify the reoccuring appointments (and may require to add an end date as this was how the guy made a modification) and then re-sync.
