"Overheating" problems with my K7N2 - ILSR

So, i've had this problem for a while now. However, with Summer comming i've found the problem cropping up again. My CPU is a AMD XP 3200+ and my motherboard seems to have this funny idea that 55 degrees C is too hot and decides to shut down my computer (complete with siren). I've tried to disable this or alter the settings in BIOS but to no avail. I see only 2 options here: I'll either have to get a new motherboard or have this problem fixed. I shouldn't have to buy a new cooler because my motherboard has stubborn.

Forgive me if I have overlooked someithing.
Your program may be the one shutting you down. Go through all the configuration settings to see if perhaps you've overlooked a setting.
Also, make sure you have the latest BIOS.
Sometimes a heatsink may not be seated properly. This can cause an immidiate shutdown, or in some cases, it can cause temps to rise too quickly when under load, causing the shutdown condition.
I would remove and reseat the heatsink, paying special attention to it's orientation and your method of fastening it to the CPU socket. I would even get some Arctic Silver instead of the crap that comes with the heatsink assembly.
Finally, your VGA card in a dual monitor setup can cause the card to generate a lot more heat than a single monitor setup, especially when gaming. Consider some type of slot cooler or something to provide a little more heat dissipation inside that case.
I agree 55c Under load is not anything to worry about and it's perfectly acceptable, however, your goal should be less than that if possible.

  • Overheating problems with 865PE Neo2-S ( 6728 )

I have the same problem with my MB. When the CPU is idle it's temperature is 42 degrees C, but when it get's stressed up it growes up to 62 degrees C. THe heatsink is well in place, and has good contact with the CPU as well as the fan which is working correctly. Once the temp grew up to even 72 degrees but when I touched the heatsink it wasn't hot as I suspected. Also quite often a situation happens when the graphics in a game are starting to get " jumpy " which is followed by sound slowing and eventually the computer stalls, so I think that the overheating is real. I would really use some assistance.

I dont think there is anything wrong with the CPU, CPU cooler or not even the casing fans.
    My system config is
    Pentium 4 2.8GHz C Processor
    MSI NEO2 865PE Mobo 512MB DDR333 Kingston (BIOS 1.1)
450W PSU w/4 Fans cooler system
    ATI Hercules Radeon 9500 Pro
    Iomega 48-24-48x CDRW
    WD SATA 36GB HDD
    WinXP Home SP1
    SB Live
    Creative 4400 Inspire 4.1 Speaker
When I boot up my PC, without running any application it is already 52 degree celsius.  After running General 5 it goes to 60+ ,  Dark Age of Camelot (Graphics intensive) it goes to 70 degree (Sometimes it just reboot while i am playing this game).  What is this?  My casing has 4 fans and my system temp is only 37 degree celsius.  How can my CPU temperature be so high when I didnt even overclock.  So what could be the cause of the problem.  Problematic Corecentre or MSI 865 PE NEO2 bug or whatever.  I really regret choosing this Mobo over Gigabyte PE1000.  FYI, my friend who fix the same system has the same problem as me.  So it is impossible that all of us didnt fixed our CPU cooler properly.

You should be fine running stock cooling (if you dont overclock) ...your problem is more likely to be airflow in and out of the case -to prove this try running with the side pannel/Casing off
If that works then you need to provide more airflow to the case not change your cpu cooler ...a bigger/more efficient CPU cooler will just increase you case temp unless you provide more airflow to the case

  • Problems with MSI K8MM-ILSR mATX after BIOS flash...

I flashed it with the latest AMI bios dated 12/21/2004 and i used the LiveUpdate Windows-Based flashing. Everything was perfect and ran fine, comp rebooted and everything is still running great, EXCEPT....
Now my memory wont run at DDR400, There is a DDR Setting, if anyone wants to DLOAD the manual and look with me....Its either set to 'Limit' or 'Auto'. Auto on the old bios loaded at DDR400, but now its DDR333. When i choose limit, my DDR Options come up, DDR100, 200, 266, 333, 400. When i set it to 400, DDR333 STILL comes up. Aside from that i dont know where the dividers are. CPU said my ram is at 333 aswell. Its stating that the mobo is using CPU/12, which i dont like.
Any help or ideas? I dont really wanna use the old bios.
EDIT: I tried removing CMOS battery, resetting CMOS, and using the second to last BIOS, still no DDR400.

    rakstr,
Since I now have two boards with memory setup restrictions (see stats) from MSI, I decided to work the problem with my own fix.  That's Danno's "don't get mad, get even-better-results policy".  I had a choice of hacking the Bios or something more entertaining......
Last night, I wrote a PCR File for the AMD Athlon 64 memory controller, i.e. the Hypertransport bridge.  I googled to find one, but apparently no one's bothered to write one.  I'm doing alpha testing now with the PCR, and the results have been good.   Are you familiar with H. Oda's WPCREDIT/WPCRSET utilities?  I see some of the folks in this Forum have been using it to toggle 1T/2T Command Rate.  Since Memtest86+ can provide alterations to settings on the fly to establish best memory tweaks with stability, I'm now able to recreate any of those settings with WPCREDIT from within Windows.  I had fun last night tweaking a setting with WPCREDIT running on screen side-by-side with the memory window from CPU-Z.  As I'd tweaked a setting, CPU-Z would almost immediately update (on it's own) to the altered setting....fun fun.    It was good verification of the PCR.  I do have more testing and documentation to do.
I need a beta tester/volunteer in a day or so.  Are you interested?  Are you familiar with those utilities?

  • Overheating problem with PowerBook G4 17"

    Hi,
I've recently noticed my PowerBook getting really hot. Is this likely to be a problem with the fan and if so how would I be able to find out?
    Thanks

You need to read the actual temps to tell if there is a problem. "Rather hot" can mean different things to different people. As you have Tiger, get a free Dashboard widget here:
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/dashboard/status/istatpro.html
iStat Pro provides a lot of info about your system. Download it and post the temps you see to get advice on whether your are too hot. Supposedly, processor temps can approach 212F/100C before the computer does a safety shutdown.
Can you hear the fans? The ones on my PB17 1G come on around 125-140F (60F).
    Other things to consider:
    1) Are you placing the Powerbook on a blanket of pillow? Not recommended--the aluminum case bottom is part of the heat dissipation system.
    2) There is a long, narrow hot air aexhaust vent under the hinge in the back. It must not be blocked
    3) Use your Activity Monitor (AM) utility to check for runaway background processes. To see them you will need to set AM's "Show" menu to "All processes." It defaults to show only user processes.
Be aware that Apple had trouble with Apple Hardware test for the PowerBook G4. Apparently versions shipped with some computers did not work and neither did later ones posted as disk images on the support site. My 1Ghz PB is so affected.

  • Problems with MSI K7N2 DELTA ILSR

I set my bios to high performance defaults and now when i turn it on the diagnosis LED's say that the processor, then the RAM are damaged, but this isnt the case as i have tested them in a different machine and they are ok. I have tried clearing the CMOS using the jumpers but nothing happens. I have read on here that the way to solve this problem is to set the CPU FSB jumper to 100mhz... could somebody please tell me if there are any other usjestions about how to solve this please...

Get something like a 2700+, I've got one, if I OC the FSB by 5, I achieve the performance of a 3200+, I can go higher, but I don't want to until I get a volcano 12, soon.

  • Motherboard/card reader/overheating problem with pavilion dv2000 series

I bought an HP dv2845se notebook in April of 2008.  Soon after purchasing I noticed that the laptop would get extremely hot, sometimes to the point that it would burn my legs if I kept it on my lap too long.  After doing some research, I noticed that on some HP laptops the nVidia GPU could be defective and that HP recalled many of its notebooks' batteries.  However, my computer was not included in the recall nor the class action lawsuit against nVidia.  Almost since purchasing this computer, I cannot watch videos or play graphic-intensive video games due to the computer getting so hot that the video/game would become unbearably choppy.  In August of 2009, 4 months after my warranty was up due to the fact that I was not included in any extended warranty offered by HP, my hard drive stopped working.  Luckily I had purchased a service plan through Best Buy and they informed me that my laptop had gotten so hot that it damaged the hard drive beyond repair.  They replaced it but I lost all of my music and important documents for school.  Angry, I tried contacting HP support regarding the overheating issue and multiple people told me that since my warranty was up I would have to pay if I wanted anything repaired or replaced.  Fast forward to a few days ago.  My card reader and firewire port only work every few times I turn on my computer.  They show up as three Base System Devices and an IEEE 1394 Controller when not working and trying to update drivers does not work.  I have tried everything, including taking out my battery and holding down the power button.  After hours of research I have discovered that my motherboard is probably failing because the card reader still lights up when a card is inserted.  Is anybody else having these problems?  Am I correct in my diagnosis?  I would like to bring my computer back to Best Buy before my service plan is up to see if they could replace my motherboard.

If you still have warranty from best buy go use it. Compaint about the card reader and IEEE port. Fixing that items would be a complete motherboard replacement. dv2700 series with Nvidia GPU has been known as a "warm" notebook. I purchase 3 years warranty but till now still working fine with normal usage, barely not playing any games in it.

  • Strange problem with my k7n2 and 9700

Before i get into my problem ill lits my specs (every thing is only a few hours old):
    MSI k7n2 mobo
    amd xp 2000+ cpu
    antec true 430 watt psu
crucucial 256megs of pc2700 DDR ram
ati all in wonder 9700 pro
ok so heres the problem. With my all in wonder installed in the agp slot and pluged into the psu any fan connected to the computer will spin for about 1 sec then stop when i try to power on the computer and there is no power going through the computer. if i unplug the 9700 from the psu i can get a display and an error message saying you need to plug the card into the psu (im not trying to use the card with out external power btw, im just showing that the card works). So i took the 9700 to a local computer store and got the guy to test it in one of there comps and it worked fine, so i tryed it again on this one and it didnt work. So i tryed another graphics card and it works fine (AGP) and i installed windows and every thing no problem. ive even updated my motherboards bios to the latest version.
i have checked every manufactuers websites of parts that are in the computer for any combatibility isues there might be but have not found a problem.
    Any ideas?

just tryed different ram and that didnt help at all either :(. I gota say is wrong with this. i cant decide if its the motherboard, graphics card or psu.

  • Overheating problem with Pavilion dv7-1464nr and some other problems

My laptop has always been very hot on bottom left upper side and blows hot air out the back, it has blistered my leg twice.  I even use a dual cooling fan pad. I have had the power supply replaced through warranty once and the second one has already burned up too. I purchased one at Wal-Mart that cost me over $100, was on vacation and I need laptop for Garmin GPS, I even purchased a 1000 watt converter hardwired to a diesel truck for better performance, power supply is still hot but working.  Laptop is now overheating to the point of shutting down and the fan has always run at highest speed which is very loud and annoying.  I only have 20 days left on warranty, suggestions.
I also have trouble with the top touch control bar on keyboard not working, sometimes it does sometimes not and the left key on mouse has never worked right, usually have to click it two or three time for it to work.  Also have one USB port that broke, when I unplugged a USB cord the part that it insert into came out with it in the cord.  I have had to tape my battery so it will stay in,  I think the Iocking switch has a broken piece, had it 3 months when this happened but decided to wait to see if anything else went wrong!!
Does HP have a replacement for lemon laptop???  Please help

    Teegarden10
OMG......this could have been my post right down to the burned body part (my belly). I also bought the cooling pad and  new power supply. My laptop also shuts down all the time. My solution to the left  click problem was to run every virus removal I could and that helped with the key problem.  If you hear of any solutions please let me know [Personal Information Removed]

  • Problem with bios K7N2 delta - L

i have bios in my computer version 5.20 and when i upgrade to version 5.30 , 5.40 and 5.50 5.60 when i play in games or when run 3dmar 2001 system failed.
in version 5.20 temperature cpu is false and i have upgrade to new version bios

  • Overheating problem with msi pm8m3-v

hi,i just built a new p4 ht pc with the msi pm8m3-v motherboard.cpu is a intel pentium 4 3.00ghz,socket 775 lga(prescott i believe).here is the heatsink i use.everything was running great up until i decided to put new thermal paste on it,cause it looks to be running hot from the stock paste that came attached to the bottom of the heatsink.after that,i tryed to boot it up,and it would almost instantly shut down.barely enough time to get into the bios.one time i got in and checked how hot the cpu was,and it was running around 200 f! :shocked_anim:i put enough paste on there i thought.covered both the top and bottom with a thin coating like it says.the thermal paste i got was cheap stuff from the computer store.(white paste)you would think it would work if they sell it.lol.
once i put the heatsink on,am i supposed to wait 200 hours or something, like i heard before i turn it on?i also got weird errors saying my second ide slot does not have a 80 pin cable connected to it???what the hell is that?i just dont understand what happened.one more thing,is it normal for the heatsink to kind of warp the motherboard?when i had it fully tightened it would do that.

Retail version. All the info is here------> http://www.msi.com.tw/program/products/mainboard/mbd/pro_mbd_detail.php?UID=712
As for the IDE cable problem, try different cable. Optical drivers do not need 80 pin cables and I still use 40 pin cables without problem of loss of data transfer. 80 pin cables are only really needed on UDMA 66/100/133
Would help, if you could list components and PSU details.......... would def speed up process of finding a solution for you.

  • Cpu problems with my k7n2 delta

last week i thought that my motherboard was defective, but help from these forums said that it was my memory. Now that i have 2 sticks of corsair xms3200 256mb ddr 400mhz I actually got winxp to install.  With the old memory I would just get errors while installing XP.  But my problem now is that right after I installed XP everythign ran fast and smooth, but after a couple of installations of programs/drivers the comp starts to get sluggish.  When i press ctrl+alt+del i look at the cpu usage and it usually sitting at 100%/99/98 around that area. What is wrong with my computer now. I am having so many problems, i'm stuck using a 600mhz amd.
    xp1800+
    2 x 256corsair xms3200
    abit siluro 4200 128mb 8x agp
    WD 8mb cache 60gig
    sb audigy2
    netgear lan card
    52x24x52 verbatim burner
    antec 350wtts

Oh and also during the Windows xp professional boot up screen where there is a blue bar that goes from left to right at a moderate  speed.  It will do that for a couple of seconds and then pause, the move, then pause, continue for a minute or two, then go back to that moderate speed.  So it seems like it is being slowed down during boot up.

This looks like your machine is either not detecting your HD or it isn't spinning up quickly enough. Could be a Power issue (or even a memory problem)!

EDIT: OK, I think I read your post incorrectly (I'm a little tired - What does it actually say (the warning message)?
is NOT an error message, it is a statement of fact. It's telling you that it "Won't bother loading the RAID BIOS" as you haven't any drives attached. Just ignore it!

  • Overheating problem with NEW HP Pavilion 500-583no

I bought a new computer less than a month ago, and the computer overheats all the time, because the fans run too slowly, CPU fan 62RPM and case fan 220RPM. Temperatures are always more than 140F/60c. Writing this, CPU temperature is 160F/71c. Where can I adjust the fan? In  BIOS I can't do anything.
Specs:SYSTEM: Windows 10 Home 64bitCPU: AMD A8-6500 APU with Radeon HD Graphics BIOS version 80.03

If those RPM's are actually "CPU fan 62RPM and case fan 220RPM", I would quit using the unit, and contact HP for an immediate replacing. Call  1-800-334-5144 .

Hi Hi Hi! This is my first post here. After reading most the threads here related to the problem we all have for this card. I have spend over $300 CAD more to upgrade my video card and added more ram, guess what, same thing happen. Before I go on, I like to say. DO NOT BOTHER TO USE THE MSIPVR SOFTWARE NO MATTER WHICH VERSION. it's used alot of cpu power and slow down your system. Because of this, I decided to risk my system and downloaded many software outthere that related to the pvr software. None of them works well. Trust me, I have tried them all. If you want to have a good recording and better video and good functions and the best of all, it's use less cpu power. With Msipvr my cpu usage gone to the roof with 1 gig of ram, with this software it only use 60-70%. Now go download a program called Powervcr II v3 by Cyberlink, Very important ,while you at it download a patch too. without the patch, you will get error saying Unable To Render Preview Video Stream when you hit the record botton. Trust me, I think you all will like it. I just finished burning a dvd and the video are so much better then Msi one and anyone outhere. Hope this help you guys out. Give a try

Hello mate, I had a similar problem with my K7N2 ILSR, XP3200+, 1 Gig  and a GeForce Ti4400...after trying everything I could think of for a few months I eventually upgraded my graphics to a GeForce 6800GT and...same problem! After reading another 1000 or so forums I eventually came up with going in to the bios and changing the CPU core voltage from auto to 1.55v which made a lot of difference and then added a couple more silent case fans (4 in total - 1 inlet 3 exhaust) and it's never crashed since.
Not saying this will work for you but it could be worth a try
    Cheers
