Ovi account, Nokia account, Discussions Account?

Are all these accounts different? And can I roll them into one?
Rather, is my discussions account != Nokia account?
Please point out if this is a repeated question.

Thanks mc13 for an excellent question and petrib for the correct answer!
We are already working on merging our Discussions accounts with the universal Nokia account (which is also used for most Ovi services). There's still a few loose ends here and there but we're making steady progress.
The migration itself should be fairly simple for every existing Discussions member, regardless of whether you already have a Nokia account or not.
If you don't already have a Nokia account, it might be handy to create one with the same username and password that you now use here. They don't have to be the same, but it just makes it easier for you to remember your passwords when the migration starts. If your current Discussions username is already taken by someone else for his Nokia account, don't worry, your Discussions alias will still remain the same.
After you've merged your accounts (and created a new Nokia account if
you didn't already have one), the biggest change is that you will start to log into these forums with your
Nokia account username and password. Your current Discussions identity ( = your future Nokia "nickname" or "alias" ) will remain the same and is the only personal detail that is displayed here.
If you already wish to create a Nokia account, please visit
http://account.nokia.com/
We'll post more info and full instructions for every possible account
combination once we're all set to go, hopefully still during September.

I wrote all my posts from 2005-2011 as an "Admin" for this community. I still work for Nokia as an external consultant, so my rank in all posts is now "Employee".

  • How do I delete an Apple discussion account?

I am wondering if you can delete one of your Apple discussion account, so that the username is not longer active for that account.

Moderators can delete the account, but usually do not (you can just let it idle and die).  They usually do not delete *all* of the threads you started, but can edit some that you feel have personal information.  If you want every response you posted deleted, that is all but impossible.

  • Issue with setting up an account for Apple Discussions

Off and on for 4 or 5 years I have posted questions or responded to them the in PowerBook G4 15" Titanium section. Then a couple of weeks ago I tried to log in and was informed that my Apple ID had been disabled for security reasons. I then created a new Apple ID and password and had no difficulty logging in with that. However, to post in the Apple Discussions I was prompted to create a new account for that purpose. When I filled in the fields, checked the box agreeing to the conditions, and clicked the Submit button, I got no error message, but the "Create New Account" screen reloaded and I still couldn't post. Clicking login just brought up the same screen again. After trying and failing to create a new posting account off and on over a period of a week I finally went to the Seattle Apple Store to see if they could help me. The first employee kindly went through the steps with me three times with the same baffling result. Finally a second employee helped me and was successful on his third try (I thanked him profusely!). However, even he could not identify the problem because no error message ever appeared. Was I trying to use an alias that didn't work for some reason? Does the Other Computer Information field need to be filled in even though it looks optional because it doesn't have an asterisk? Is the secret to get help at an Apple Store? All just FYI.

Thanks, jpfresno. The Apple Store guy also suggested that the alias I wanted might already be in use, but evidently that wasn't the case.
At this point I should clarify that my account issues have been fully resolved. The point of my post is a larger issue--usability of the Create New Account screen. The fact that neither I nor two Apple Store employees could figure out why attempting to create a new account for Apple Discussions repeatedly failed was due to lack of feedback after clicking the Submit button. I would normally expect to see a message like "This alias already in use" or "This field must be filled in" but there were no messages of any sort.

    Ken,
kenak99709 is the Alias of the Discussions account that you are currently posting with.
If you had to have created a new account, you would not have been able to choose that Alias, as Discussions will only allow one member to have a unique Alias.
Either I am not understanding your dilemma, or possibly you have not explained the situation in full.

  • Please delete my Discussions account

Assuming deleting my Discussions account will not affect my use of my AppleID in iTunes or in the online Apple Store or in MobileMe, I make the following request:
Having grown tired of the relative uselessness of these forums, random TOU enforcement, and the random deletion of posts for seemingly whimsical reasons (if anything), I request to have my Discussions account deleted as I don't intend to post here again unless more uniform TOU enforcement is employed. These forums are the weakest component of the Apple user experience and have grown less useful to me since I became an Apple user in 2002. If you have a TOU, it needs to be uniformly enforced and not randomly so based on a moderator's mood or attitude. Apple should have higher standards.
    Thank you.

    Joe,
We do strive to enforce the terms of use fairly and employ human judgment as opposed to a robotic black and white interpretation. We respect your decision to leave the community but we will not remove your account or its content. Questions and answers posted here are for the benefit not only of the participants, but for the rest of the Apple community. If you ever decide to rejoin the community, your account and status level will remain intact.

  • My Discussions account shows more questions than I actually have

When I click on the "You have 6 unresolved questions" which is displayed in the right hand panel of my discussions account, I see only 3 unresolved questions. What happened to the other ones?
    Weird.

Thanks but since the number of questions is listed but the questions themselves are not listed in "unresolved questions", there is no way for me to sort of do just that ...
Sorry, I read your original question to mean something like, "How can I mark my questions as 'Answered' when I can't see them on the My Questions page, and what causes this to happen?"

  • Deleting Discussions Account

I find it highly irritating that I am prohibited from deleting my Discussions account.
My Discussions alias is my full name, and I do not wish for search engines to associate me with the forum.
Can customer service remove my account for me over the phone, or is there any other way?

    Hi Rod!
Although you can't change the Alias of the account you are using, you can create a new Discussions Account, with an Alias that you prefer.
You cannot delete your present account. Just stop using it, after you have created a new one.
You can use all of the same info in the new account, Email address, User name, etc, just be sure to insert a new Alias of your choosing.
But your Level(0), Points(0), Total Posts(2), Total Posts Online(2) and Registered Date(12/3/05), will not be transferred.
In the new account, your Post Counts, Points, & Level Status will all start at 0. Your Registered Date will be the date you create the new account.
Your old account, with your previous counts & level, will still be viewable, under the old Alias.
After you quit using the old account, those posts, will be archived. What that means is, that if there are no additional responses in the Threads they reside in, the Topics will get continually pushed down on the Topics list. After a certain amount of time, maybe 1 to 3 months, the Threads will be locked, so no responses can be entered. But the Threads will not disappear.
The Topics that you started using the old account, will show your Old Alias, in the Author field of a main forum page, but eventually, readers will have to keep going to the succeeding pages to view them.
If someone were to do a Discussions Search, using these parameters:
Restrict by Category or Forum: All Categories
    Restrict by Date Range: All
Restrict by Username: Your Old Alias
all of your posts, created since about 11/13/05, would be found.
    To create a new account,
Log out of Discussions. You also may have to delete the Apple Cookies in your browser preferences, but I'm not sure this is necessary. Then follow either of these instructions.
-How Do I Create My Account?
If you haven't signed up for an Apple ID for the Apple Store or AppleCare Support website (or forgot your old one), you can create a new account on the My Info webpage. Just click the "create one" link on the right side of the My Info page. Choose your country location and preferred language from the appropriate pop-up menus, then click Create Account. In the resulting page, enter a unique name (such as your email address) in the Apple ID field and fill in your other relevant information accordingly (fields marked with * are required). Click Continue to complete the process.
-To register, click Login in the sidebar on the right side of the Discussions page. In the resulting page, click the "create one" link at the bottom of the page, then click "create one" in the subsequent page and follow the instructions to create an Apple ID. For more information, see the Apple ID FAQ page.
Those instructions, and more info, can also be viewed by clicking on ?Help & Terms of Use, in the right column of Discussions pages.

  • Problem with my discussions account

    Hello,
I logged out of my primary discussions account and now I can't log on back. I try entering my apple ID and then it pushes me through to the "select a name for your account". This is where i'm stuck. Can anyone help me log on to my support account?

You have to delete the old account, provide the password for the old ID when prompted to turn off Find My iPhone, then sign back in with the ID you wish to use.  If you don't know the password for your old ID, or if it isn't accepted, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • Apple IDs and Discussion accounts

The last time I posted in Apple Discussions was back in January of this year using one of the Apple IDs I have amassed over the years. Today, when I logged in, a page came up asking me to create a Discussion account. I didn't want to create another alias, so I tried logging in with all of my Apple IDs, at least the ones I can recall, but every time, the page to create a new Discussion account came up. Now, I'm reasonably certain that back in January, I had used one of these Apple IDs to post here, so it seems strange that none of them appears to be associated with my previous alias.
Is there a way to find out which Apple ID is associated with my original alias? And is there a reason it would not already be connected to one of my Apple IDs?

Thanks for the reply, Miriam. I was trying to log in during the afternoon, so what I was seeing wasn't due to the problems in the morning. It turns out I selected the wrong Apple ID on my first guess, so it took me to the page to create a new alias, as it should have. However, when I logged in subsequently with an account that already had an associated discussion alias, it took me back to the alias-creation page because that's where I had been previously when I logged out. Consequently, even though I had logged in with the correct Apple ID, I didn't realize it because it kept taking me back to that page instead of into the forums as I was expecting.
I finally dawned on me what was going on when, taking your advice, I started trying my Apple IDs one by one. My first attempts again took me to the alias-creation page each time. It looked like my problem was still there, so I decided to log back in with this account to post to this thread. When it again asked me to create an alias, I realized it was taking me there regardless of whether I really needed to go there or not. So I logged in using each Apple ID and finally found the one I had used months ago.
I'm still not sure how Safari remembered what page I was on since I was clearing out my apple.com cookies between each login attempt with a different account. In any case, everything is good now. Thanks for the help.

  • Hotmail account unable to verify account information?

In the past 2 days, I had to change my hotmail password and now I can not use my hotmail on my iphone5.  It gives me a hot mail account, unable to verify account information.  I can log in fine on my pc.  When i called apple, they said it was a microsoft problem, and microsoft says it is an apple problem and they don't support hotmail.

You stated that you CANNOT use the same password.  That is incorrect.  You CAN use the same password.  That's it. Period.  End of discussion.  Your original statement was false.
    But, let's humor you:
The fact that I DO use the same password for my account is proof enough for me.  I am an Outlook user.  I am fully aware that it was a CHOICE whether or not to enable Two-Step Verification.  I chose not to use it.
Secondly, this particular Apple ID that I use is new, yes.  I don't use my old one much on these forums anymore.  Doesn't mean I'm new to the site.  I guess you don't understand how Apple IDs work very well.  But that's okay.
I did read the link that you provided.  You apparently did not.  The first part says 'After you've turned on two-step verification'.  In other words, it is NOT the default setting.  It was NEVER the default setting.  It was something that the user had to CHOOSE to enable.
You actually have to sign into your account, go to Password and Security, and Edit security info.
You have to CHOOSE to turn it on.

But, hey... if you want to go argue with Microsoft about the accuracy of their own FAQ... be my guest.

  • Blank Accounts window and missing accounts

Hello, I posed my original question in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1286618&tstart=0 where it was recommended I started a new thread if I still have problems.
What happened is that I used the install disc that came with my computer to change the passwords on two of my accounts, and this caused those two accounts to disappear (though their home folders are still intact), and made the Accounts window in System Preferences blank (as shown in this image http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/544/picture1ij9.png ).
Thanks to Michael Conniff I now have admin capabilities again (one of the accounts that became disabled was my only admin account), but the problem of the missing accounts and the blank Accounts window remains. At least I am now able to access and copy all my data should I ended up having to reinstall my OS.
    Please help!
    And Happy New Year!

Bad idea! You should never need root enabled, you can do anything you need with an admin account and authentication (or sudo in Terminal).
Anyway, your NetInfo database is a complete mess. It doesn't appear to have a /users directory, which could cause some problems.
Your best bet is to follow the instructions in Part III of Mac OS X, Mac OS X Server: How to Replace the NetInfo Database. (Note that this lists commands including the '#' prompt, as in:
    # mv /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb /var/db/netinfo/local.nidb.bad
You do not type the '#' prompt.
After you reboot, the Setup Assistant will appear. Enter the details for your existing 501 user, 'francis'. That will correctly associate the new account with the old one. Once you have that running, use System Preferences > Accounts to restore the 502 and 503 accounts in order with the existing names.

Cant associate my established behance account to my adobe account. Can somebody help?

    Thankyou for your reply.
I spent a long time yesterday trying to sort it out.  I deleted it and re-installed it again and I have managed to get it to send e-mails but am still having problems receiving them.  I have checked the settings and everything seems fine.  Last night all my emails (including Junk emails) and I deleted loads of them but the rest have all disappeared this morning and although I have received emails this morning they only stay on my phone (despite me not reading or deleting them) for about 30 minutes and then disappear.  My googlemail messages are downloading and staying on my mobile with no problems :/ .   I don't know whats happening and I'm not sure who to contact for support - Orange, Virgin Media or Nokia?
    Many thanks in advance

  • How to use one Account dimension for multiple account structures

We are implementing a HFM application to replace two general ledger applications, one being Corporate and the other a new subsidiary. We need to maintain both of the chart of accounts and their unique rollup structures. We are facing the difficulty in attempting to combine the two chart of accounts into one HFM Account Dimension because a few of the subsidiary accounts have the same account numbers but they are meant different things.
    Question:
How can we set up two distinct account structures in HFM and also have the subsidiary accounts rolled into the Corporate accounts for consolidation reporting?
    Appreciate your help.
