OVM3.2.2 Unexpected CPU Pinning for Win2008EntR2

Hi all,
I installed OVM 3.2.2 on HP Gen 8 server with 16 cores for testing. Then :
1. Windows 2008 r2 Enterprise edition is installed.
2. No CPU pinning was set
3. When I tried to check the CPU allocation with the "xm vcpu-list" command, the information show that the Windows guest was pinned to core 16-31 while dom0 pinned to core 0-19
4. The vm.cfg file was checked. No pinning setting found
5. The information about the OVS and the guest is attached.
The setup was originally for testing/learning CPU pinning of the Windows guest to 4 cpu cores (8 vCPU) and come across the above scenario.
Is it normal that the Windows guest pinned to core 16-31 unexpectedly? and why?
Can I rectify it by adding the clause "cpus=0-31" to the vm.cfg ?
Any official recommandation for the dom0 CPU allocation? more appropriate the delicate certain number of core for the exclusive use of dom0?
Thanks!

This is a general discussion post that is why I put it over there...
As for virex it is not universal binary but there is not any non compatibility issues...
In fact our employer advise on the use of the vesion we use for Intel Macs... Anyway virex is not the subject of the post. Clearly

  • Microsoft.Exchange.Search.ExSearch.exe has CPU pinned for 8 hours

I made some changes to my Exchange server today allowing for larger attachments. I changed the limits on the transport settings and all of the send and receive connectors. I also updated the web.config for OWA to allow up to 50MB. This part went fine.
However, when the changes were done and I rebooted the server, I noticed the server was running very slow. I have found that the Microsoft.Exchange.Search.ExSearch.exe process has had the CPU maxed out ever since the reboot. This is a very small installation
of exchange, currently there are less than 10 users and I would guess well less than 1000 total messages per day. I did send one 20MB test file, but that is it. Any idea what is causing this process to run like this?

I had a similar issue after installing rollup 3 for 2010. Had a few entries in my event log about exsearch.exe like the one bellow. After i mounted the store that was offline everything started to run normal again.

  • Pinning physical CPU cores for VMs

    Hi all,
Let's assume we have OVM Server pool on two-node Dell R900 Hosts, FC switches and SAN. One server is acting as the Server Pool Master and Utilty Server, as well as the OVM Server. The other Dell R900 server acts as the OVM Server. Both Dell servers have two quad-core processors and are configured as active/passive. VMs are meant to be on SAN but will need memory and CPU from the phyisical servers in two-node Dell r900 hosts.
Is it possible to specify cores for the first VM as cpus='0,1,2,3' and the second VM as cpus='4,5,6,7' in both vm.cfg to avoid the situation when they will both use the same first four cores on the same phyisical server? I know it is more expensive lto use all 8 cores but is inevitable since the two applications in two VMs will need a lot of processing power.
What would be your recommendation how to configure vm.cfg and cpus parameter for two different VMs?
    Cheers,
    Andrei

I am in a very similar position where we have 2 CPU license for Oracle DB. I would like to use this to run two separate databases on separate OS instances. One will be an OBIEE database and the other will be an Oracle Retail database. I'd like to assign both guests CPU 0,1,2,3 and let them share the CPU resources but I don't know if you can do that with "Hard Partitioning".
Interesting side note - since the servers I bought are running the Intel X5680 CPU's they have the new style Nehalem hyperthreading. This means that on my 2 socket server I have a total of 12 CPU cores (six core CPU's) and each core has two threads. This shows up as 24 CPU's on the Oracle VM server. If I read the licensing correctly I can run my 2 CPU's on 4 cores which means I should be able to assign 8 CPU instances and meet the database CPU licencing requirements - RIGHT?! - thoughts?

  • Not able to find out the OCT 2012 CPU patch for 11.2.0.3

    Hi
I am trying to download the OCT 2012 CPU patch for the 11.2.0.3 to install on Linux x86-64 which is having OS of RHEL 5.7. I am able to get the OCT 2012 PSU patch which include the CPU patch too.
Database 11.2.0.3.4 PSU Patch 14275605, or
GI 11.2.0.3.4 PSU Patch 14275572, or
But I just require only the CPU patch. Can anyone provide me the patch number or some link where I can download the Oracle CPU patch OCT 2012

The given link take to the window where CPU patch for all the quarter available.
The Critical Patch Updates released to date are listed in the following table.
    Critical Patch Update Latest Version/Date
    Critical Patch Update - October 2012 Rev 1, 16 October 2012
    Critical Patch Update - July 2012 Rev 1, 17 July 2012
    Critical Patch Update - April 2012 Rev 2, 19 July 2012
If I click on Critical Patch Update - October 2012 its takes to the window for selectin the database version (11.2.0.3). From there it goes to the Patch Set Update and Critical Patch Update October 2012 Availability Document [ID 1477727.1] which I had already checked.
There for the database products it shows the below option.
Table 9 Patch Availability for Oracle Database 11.2.0.3
+*<moderator edit - deleted MOS Doc content - pl do NOT post such content - it is a violation of your Support agreement>*+
It doesnt have the sepreate CPU patch. The below CPU patch is for the OC4J. I had a check.
    Thanks

  • Any way to get CPU-seconds for process or a thread from within my app?

I'm trying to guage the work by different processes within our application. I'd like to be able to get the number of CPU-seconds before a long task and then again after the task finishes and compute the difference. I'm sure I could poll the % CPU every second and try estimate the value, but I don't think it would be very accurate.
Is there a MBean or some other way to access the CPU-seconds for the process?
It would even be better if I could get this at the thread level (which seems possible since JRA recordings can show the 'running' time on a graph drawn in milliseconds).
    Thanks
    -Bill

We are considering making this available through a MBean in our upcoming R28 release.Do you have a program I can participate in to get beta or pre-releases of new JRockit versions? The purpose would be to do preliminary performance testing so we can get official releases to our development team more quickly once they are formally released.
I'm also hoping to find cumulative disk i/o bytes and cumulative network i/o bytes on a thread or even at the JVM levelI don't think we have that in JRockit today... What would you use it for?The use would be for performance monitoring. In a large system or a busy system, the effect of code changes can be hard to measure just based on clock time or traditional measurements like % CPU or bytes/sec at a specific instant. Knowing how much 'work' is getting done (together with the clock time) gives a better picture.
I like cumulative numbers like cpu-sec and # of bytes because I only need two measures (before and after) instead of continuous polling and summing. Some of my processes get created on their own threads, so I could potentially get these measures of work on my customer's production systems with a lot of other activity going on. By comparing samples over time, we can tell if processes are running longer due to 'more work' or due to resource bottlenecks.
I think it could be useful on shared threads too even though i don't know yet if I can see which threads specific requests are using.

I received the following from apple, anyone know what it means, Have not heard from them since... I have 3 apps for sale and have not seen this before... are they just swamped? Or is this something specific to my app? Thoughts?
    thanks for reply

    Hello,
Your application, MY APP NAME, is requiring unexpected additional time for review. We apologize for the delay, and will update you with further status as soon as we are able.
    Thank you for your patience.

It usually means there's something questionable about your app and Apple doesn't have a formal policy yet of how to handle it. From what I've read with other people in a similar situation, it might be because Apple suspects your app is doing something in violation of the SDK rules, but it's a grey area.
I read one person say they received such an email when they had an app that simulated smoking (kinda like iBeer, but for cigarettes). Apple's legal team was probably mulling it over for awhile to figure out whether it deserved outright rejection or might be allowed in the store.
Sometimes, once your app is in this status, it will be there for MONTHS. Yes, months. Best advice is once you receive such an email move on to a new app idea. Your app might eventually be accepted, but no telling how long it will take and Apple is usually silent in regards to further email queries asking for clarification.
I have an app in this state right now. The questionable part of my app is that under certain circumstances the app simulates a cracked screen. The app was initially rejected and when I pointed out that another app (Sonic Boom) already does this and is approved in the store, I received this status update that my app is now requiring additional time for review.
Hopefully it really means Apple is reconsidering their position and it's not a way to just put my app on hold indefinitely.
Yes, it's frustrating, and yes, it makes me rethink the whole idea of investing serious time in developing apps for the iPhone.

  • I'd like to know how to get the SIM Network Unlock PIN for my DROID2 GLOBAL

I am living in Haiti and I made someone buy a Droid2 Global for me in USA. I have had the phone for 2 months but I never could operate it.  Any time I open it, it requires that I enter a SIM Network Unlock PIN that I have not.
I' d appreciate you help me get the SIM Network Unlock PIN for my Droid2 Global which IMEI is the following: {edited for privacy}.
    Many thanks in advance

If the incorrect PIN code is entered too many times, a PIN Unlock Key must be obtained from Verizon Wireless at 908-559-4899 if you are outside of the United States and 800-922-0204 or *611(send) from your mobile number inside the United States..
The SIM PIN option is only available when the handset is in GSM / UMTS mode. Refer to Network Mode Setting for further assistance.
    Thank you, LatachaM_VZW
Are you talking about the PUK code (when the PIN for the SIM has been wrong too many times)?  The OP is talking about network unlock, and is using a foreign SIM.   Global Services certainly wouldn't have the unlock code for a SIM that isn't theirs.
I have heard that if you do enter the incorrect network unlock code too many times, the phone becomes permanently locked (i..e cannot be unlocked even with a valid unlock code) but not everyone agrees that this is true for all phones.
Jax's post above really says it all, you will need to search the web for a service that will unlock this Motorola phone.  In doing so, you might find a number of threads that say the Global has to be activated in the US before an unlock code will work.  Others were able to unlock without this.

We are in DOD -GOVT US marine corps.. WE are on 10.1.3.3.1 .. There is no CPU Patches for 10.1.3.3.1 nor
    for 10.1.2.03-B2B
    open issues/questions:
    Open Issues:
    1. What is Oracle's recommendation about upgrading 10.1.3.5 vs 10.1.3.4 (CPU Patch support length). Also CPU Patch support policy for BAM 10.1.3.3.1 and B2B 10.1.2.3.
    2. Any MLRs to apply after upgrading SOA/BPEL/WSM/BAM/B2B 10.1.3.5 ?
    3. Interoperability of OWSM 10.1.3.4, BAM 10.1.3.3.1, B2B 10.1.2.3 and SOA/BPEL 10.1.3.5. Can they co-exist or must they(one or more) be in same release level?

  • OAS 10.1.3.5 on Windows 64 bit, NO CPU patch for April?

After reading the CPU Advisory for April CPU 2011, it appears that for OAS 10.1.3.5 on Windows 64 bit, that there is NO CPU patch for April? It only shows a patch for Windows 32 bit. They do not mean that the 32 bit patch should also be applied on 64 bit Windows o/s having OAS 10.1.3.5? I just want to make sure I skip this CPU since I have 64 bit o/s.
I ask because the list of bugs fixed in the README for the 32 bit patch list 32 bit bug fixes , and then 64 bit bug fixes.
    Edited by: user12152237 on May 9, 2011 6:17 PM

Somu, please check a topic 3 lines below. No, there's not a separate 64-bit installer, but there's a work-around albeit not supported by oracle.

  • How could i get the kernel and user cpu usage for each process

    Hi all,
In order to monitor the system CPU usage, I would like write a script to gather the kernel and user CPU usage for each process, like the prstat or top does. As always missing the shortlived kernel usage, prstat or top cann't get the precise CPU usage. I checked with the dtrace syscall, proc and fbt provider, but don't get which one is useful.
Please provide your comments and suggestion.
    Thanks in adv

As I've studied the "dtrace" for a while, and seems Sun gives a pretty high score on this new feature.....I do want to know whether there's some probe can work for it, like writing a "dtrace" version prstat. You can write a prstat without dtrace. Because that's just polling at specific intervals and reading some process structures from /proc. You could have dtrace fire a probe every 5 seconds and read the same thing, but it wouldn't really be using any features of dtrace. Trhying to write it "in dtrace" doesn't make much sense.
What you could do that would be harder via other methods is to fire a probe at process exit that displayed the process information including total CPU time. They could print exactly when processes exited. Doing that without dtrace would be very difficult.

  • How to define CPU sets for different hardware cores?

We're doing a small benchmarking research on parallel benefits of Niagaras, and as one part of
the research, we want to find out whether there are performance differences between hardware
CPU cores and strands within a core. From theory, only one strand of a core is executing at any
given moment, others are "parked" while waiting for IO, RAM, etc. So it may be possible to see
some difference between a program running with 4-processor "pset"s, i.e. 4 strands of one core
    and 4 separate cores.
While I can use psrset or poolcfg/pooladm to create and bind actual processor sets consisting
of a number of processors, I have some trouble determining which of the 32 CPU "id numbers"
    belong to which hardware core.
On a side note, an X4600 server with two boards lists 4 "Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) Processor
8218 CPU #" entries in prtdiag, but 8 "cpu (driver not attached)" entries in prtconf, and
Solaris recognizes 8 processors in pooladm. Again, there's no clue which of these 8 processor
cores belongs to which socket, and this information could be important (or at least interesting)
for SMP vs. NUMA comparison within otherwise the same platform.
So far the nearest ideas I got were from some blog posts about pooladm which suggested to
make a CPU set for a worker zone with CPU IDs 0-28, and moving hardware interrupts to CPU
IDs 29-31. I could not determine whether these are single strands of separate cores, or 3 of 4
strands on a single core, or some random 3 strands how-ever Solaris pleases to affine them?
Is this a list defined somewhere (i.e. IDs 0-3 belong to core 0, IDs 4-7 belong to core 1 and so
on, according to Document X) or can this be determined at runtime (prtdiag/prtconf)?
Is this a fixed list or can the "strand number-CPU core" relations change over time/reboots?
Perhaps, does Solaris or underlying hardware deliberately hide this knowledge from the OS
administrators/users (if so, what is the rationale)?
Finally, am I correct to believe I can place specific CPU IDs into specific psets via pooladm?
Looking at /etc/pooladm.conf I think this is true (the default pool lists all CPU IDs of the
system), but wanted some solid confirmation :)
    Thanks for any ideas,

  • No pin for the Adjustment Brush

New photo imported into LR4, applied adjustment brush and noticed there was no pin or anchor point for the brush. What happend to the pin? Closed the panel. Then opened the adjustment brush again and previous adjustment brush pin is not there - I can't edit previous adjustment brush. I tried the gradient tool and it places the pin allowing edits, but I get no pin for the adjustment brush. All else seems to be working ok, all beit a bit slow.
I've tried this multiple times on different images and I never get a pin for the adjustment brush. I even tried this on a dng file from LR3 with the same result - no pin.
