OWB paris install on 10g rel1 RAC cluster

We are trying to install OWB paris on our 10.1.0.4 RAC cluster using OCFS. When launching OUI without setting oracle home the OUI prompts to install on both nodes, the install fails because it is trying to use the database oraInventory.
as below
Error in invoking target 'isqlldr' of makefile
'/u01/app/oracle/OraHome_2/rdbms/lib/ins_rdbms.mk'. See
'/u01/app/oracle/oraInventory/logs/installActions2005-07-11_10-28-24AM.log' for details.
Metalink suggested the following:
Note:317510.1
Create a seperate oraInventory folder and oraInst.loc file for OWB and specify the file oraInst.loc as parameter while invoking the installer.
Re-install the OWB in a new ORACLE_HOME i.e altogether in a new location and don't install on top of database ORACLE_HOME.
In addition to new location(ORACLE_HOME), create a new Inventory and inventory location file as follows.
1. Set the new location for installing OWB like
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01/app/oracle/product/owb
ensure that the location /u01/app/oracle/product/ exists.
2. Create a diectory oraInventory inside the ORACLE_HOME
3. Create a file oraInst.loc pointing to oraInventory in $ORACLE_HOME by doing:
echo "inventory_loc=$ORACLE_HOME/oraInventory" > oraInst.loc
Note: the directory oraInventory and file oraInst.loc will be present under ORACLE_HOME
4. Invoke the installer by providing the parmater as
./runInstaller -invPtrLoc $ORACLE_HOME/oraInst.loc
When we do this, the OUI does not prompt to install on both nodes.. how can we work around this?, do we have to install owb on each individual node individually?

Hello.
I had the same problem as you did. But i managed to install OWB on both nodes with user equvalents set and by slightly modifying the steps from metalink as follows:
unset ORACLE_HOME (if it is set)
create owb directory
create oraInst.loc in owb
create oraInventory directory in owb
export ORACLE_HOME=/u01........./owb_1
./runInstaller
(note no command line parameters so it picks up the other node)
Basically if you specify the oraInst.loc it goes tot he oraInventory direct instead of doing checks (one of which for the cluster)
Hope this helps.
Thanks

    Dear all:
please advice How can i install oracle 10g on linux cluster service ..
    thanks ,,

Without RAC, you can only have one instance manage the database. One instance = one set of processes communicating via IPC.
Unless you know of a way to have processes use memory-based IPC across nodes, you need to pick a node and install & run the database software on that node.

also before you do what is suggested on the url posted by Mufalani,
it seems that you should do the following:
Check existence of udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
On RH/EL5, udev raw mapping rule file /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules should exist by default as part of the util-linux package, for example:
    # ls /etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rules
/etc/udev/rules.d/60-raw.rulesCreate a custom udev raw mapping rule file, /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules say, for example:
    # touch /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules3b. Add udev raw binding rules to /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file
Add the udev raw binding rules to the /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules file, for example:
    # cat /etc/udev/rules.d/61-oracleraw.rules
    # Raw bind to Oracle Clusterware devices
    ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524174", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw1 %N"
ACTION=="add", KERNEL=="sd*", PROGRAM=="/sbin/scsi_id", RESULT=="360a98000686f6959684a453333524179", RUN+="/bin/raw /dev/raw/raw2 %N"If migrating to RHEL5/OEL5 from an earlier Linux version that relied on /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices file for persistent raw device bindings, the following script can be used as a basis for generating your RHEL5/OEL5 udev rules. Note, the script does not factor device name persistency.
    #!/bin/bash
    grep -v "^ *#" /etc/sysconfig/rawdevices | grep -v "^$" | while read dev major minor ; do
    if [ -z "$minor" ]; then
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", KERNEL==\"${major##/dev/}\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %N\""
    else
    echo "ACTION==\"add\", ENV{MAJOR}==\"$major\", ENV{MINOR}==\"$minor\", RUN+=\"/bin/raw $dev %M %m\""

  • General Install question - 10g Server location on RAC

    Hi,
We are trying to install 10g Server on a 2 node cluster using Sun Solaris 8.
We are using Oracle CRS and this is configured for 2 nodes.
For both nodes to see an 10g server install, do we perform a local install of the server twice on each node, or on a shared disk(raw device)visible to both nodes.
Also, if we then add a new node does the 10g server install propogate to the new node, or do we have to install the 10g server software prior to adding the node to the RAC.
Any help and guidance would be much appreciated.

  • Installing Oracle 10g Forms and Reports in Cluster Mode

    Dear All,
My OS version is RHEL 4
In our current setup we have oracle 10g database two node  cluster and Application Server 10g to node cluster.
Currently our report server has been configured to run in standalone mode

my main goal is load balancing only
Then what I've done in 2007 might be what you need. In that thread there is a link to Web Cache Administrator's Guide : there you'll find everything you need to configure the web cache as a load balancer, particularly chapter 8 Setup and Configuration.
Anyway, here briefly some configurations : we have two machines, say MachineA and MachineB. The DNS resolves MachineA to a virtual address, which is normally assigned to MachineA; if MachineA crashes, it gets assigned to MachineB.
Users URL looks like this : http://MachineA:<port>/forms/frmservlet?config=<some config>
MachineA's web cache distributes connection requests between MachineA and MachineB.
Of course we're now using 11g as well, but that's another thing.

Hello, it took a little searching, but I found this in a note in the GRID installation guide for Linux/UNIX:
Public IP addresses and virtual IP addresses must be in the same subnet.
In your case, you are using two different subnets for the VIPs.

  • 10g R2 RAC on Solaris 10 error when running root.sh

hi, I am installing Oracle 10g rac on Solaris 10 with two nodes. In the end of the installation of RAC when a run root.sh I get the error bellow.
    # /opt/crs/oracle/product/10.2.0/crs/root.sh
Checking to see if Oracle CRS stack is already configured
Setting the permissions on OCR backup directory
    Setting up NS directories
Failed to upgrade Oracle Cluster Registry configuration

I have done this install using a pair of T2000's and a 65XX SAN. The install doco is not straight forward. I had to compile a number of Metalink notes to eventually get the disk partitions sorted. Of particular help was Note:271621.1.
Since I am not a Solaris admin, the next bit is caveated as "This is how I did it" and maybe not how anyone else would have done it. These things were not explicitly noted, but gleaned through a bit of reading:
    1) you need to throw away the first cylinder of each LUN. I did this by creating the first partition as a single cylinder.
2)then create s4 (or whichever slice you desire) as the rest of the space allocated to that LUN.
    3) Repeat this for each LUN presented
    4) I created a directory /san under which I then created the character mode (raw) interface for each of ocr, vote.
    5) For asm, and for no other reason than being self documenting, I created /san/asm and created character mode interfaces to each of the LUN's for datadg and fradg
    6) repeat steps 1-5 on the other box
I took quite some time (2 days) to extract all this and assemble it to a working system. But has always been stable.

  • How to install Oracle 10g with its grid functionality on Linux?

Well, I thought changing the subject line might help to convey the meaning of what I want better. Here's my earlier post from a few hours earlier.
    Hi,
I need carry out TPC-C benchmarking test for Oracle 10g (using one, two and four servers; basically using the grid in case of multiple servers). I have installed oracle 10g (with default options) on all the four servers, but beyond that I have no idea as to how can I invoke the grid option in order to carry out the tests-by my statement, I mean do I need to choose grid option while installing Oracle or is it the case that I specify the grid option in the code that I write for carrying out the tests. The OS is LInux (Scientific Linux).
An unrelated problem-one of the servers is 64 bit while others are 32 bit, and proper versions of oracle have been installed. Neglecting the obvious fact that this will make comparisons difficult does anyone anticipate any other problem?
    Many Thanks!
    Steve

Do you think that the installation of RAC can be done
in a week? yes, as long as you know what you are doing and can catch the concept quickly and good at following instructions.
Moreover, we do not have a cluster-all we
have are four servers that are separate. Do you know
if the name Real Application Clusters implies that
the servers have to be in a cluster?
The basic idea of RAC is all these hosts need to share same set of storage. The most popular such storage are SAN and NAS.

    Hi,
I see lot of good input. I have done few RAC installs on sun/solaris/emc ...
Here are few things to consider.
    * ) Veritas cluster / Sun Cluster is must component or Can I use Oracle clusterware ? what are the advantages and disadvantages of using Oracl clusterware compare with varitas cluster or sun cluster
Just stay with Oracle Clusterware. If there are any issues then you only have to deal with one vendor and there will be no finger pointing. In any case Oracle Clusterware is needed even if you install Veritas/Sun.
    * ) Is cluster filesystem a compulsory component or Can I use ASM instead of Cluster File system.
For the database you can use ASM. The only time I have considered a cluster filesystem is if external tables were in use.
When you use ASM you need to partition the disk with 1 meg offset or start at cyclinder 1.
    * ) If I don't use cluster filesystem where to put CRS repository and voting disk ?
OCR and Voting Disk go on raw devices.
    * ) What is best option for Oracle_Home, is it shared oracle home or sepereate oracle_home on each node ?
Install ORACLE_HOME, ASM_HOME and CRS_HOME locally on each server.
    * ) Are there any known risks invovled in using ASM. How is the I/O performance with ASM on EMC with Solaris ? Are there any best practices
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/asm/pdf/asm-on-emc-5_3.pdf
We have always installed 2 HBAs and used powerpath.
    * ) Is GigE okay for interconnect or do I need to go for Infiniband ?
For a majority of cases gigE is sufficient.
    * ) Is there any notes on Best practices for the above components
    Have redundancy at each level.
*) Do I need to consider fail over option for NIC's (interconnect and public), if yes, how to do that ?
You can use IPMP. Use large send/receive buffers. Enable Jumbo Frames.
We had to apply some patches.

What versions of Oracle database can I use with OWB 10gR2 Beta 3?
    - Oracle Database 10gR2
    - Oracle Database 10gR1 with 10.1.0.4 patchset applied.
    - Oracle9i Database (9.2). Note that some OWB features are only supported on Oracle Database 10g, as detailed in the Release Notes. Oracle Database 10gR1 is strongly recommended for OWB Paris Beta.

  • SOA with Oracle 2 node RAC cluster

    Hi All,
Just a simple doubt, I have successfully installed and configured SOA suite 11.1.1.3 & BAM in one wls Domain 10.3.3 in a linux box and could access all the application like BAM console, BPEL console etc .... also could see all my data-sources deployed in the Data Sources with a single node database.
    1. Now I have to RE-configure this whole SOA suite with RAC (2 node database cluster) what changes or configuration needed to implement SOA suite with RAC database?
    2. Do I need to create a "Multi Data Source" to configure RAC with SOA suite..?
    Thanks
    Sam

This is regarding Oracle RAC..so if there is a specific category..please let me know..
I have installed OEL linux 5.6 as guest OS (using virtualbox) in two laptops.
I want to install 2 node oracle 10gR2 RAC with the OEL linux as OS and each laptop as one node.
Read docs and understood that there must be shared storage for oracle clusterware and oracle ASM for oracle RAC to work.
Please let me know the steps to create shared storage for oracle clusterware and oracle ASM (considering virtualbox OEL) and to configure public, private and virtual IPs.
I already have document to create 2node oracle RAC using virtualbox with two nodes on the same laptop.so please dont suggest that doc.
    Thanks,
DBMay be my step by step RAC installation guide can help you somehow?
