How to import my own class in jsp file
I have a jsp file in jsp\ directory and a class in web-inf\classes\ directory. How do I import the class in jsp so i can use it in my jsp file. Thanks,

Hello:
I'm new to Mac OS X server, but an old hand at unix based systems. My problem is simple: I am unable to upload JSP files using WebDAV. I can upload pretty much anything else, but get an error when trying to copy up JSPs. Is there an ACL or something that needs to be set?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.To answer my own question -- since JSP files are mapped to Tomcat through Apache using mod_jk (at least in my case), and since files are transferred using Apache when using webdav, every request for a jsp transfer is passed on to Tomcat, and Tomcat had no idea what to do with the request. Tomcat does have a webdav client built in, but not installed.
Fortunately, the solution is fairly simple.
Disable webdav on the site in question using the Server Admin tool. Create another web site in Server Admin, with a name like "webdav.mydomain.com". Enable Webdav for this site. Unlike the version of the site that is "live", do not connect this version to tomcat using mod_jk. Create a new realm, with permissions set as follows:
Everone: None
You: Browse and read/write WebDav
This is fairly important if you want to protect the contents of your jsp files. Assuming that you've made the changes to the domain name record, you should now be able to connect to http://webdav.yourdomain.com and transfer jsp files back and forth as you wish.

Accessing my own class members from the JSP file
Hi,
I have created a class by name simple.java.and the package structure is like sridhar.source.useful.In this package i placed my file simple.java.
Now i import this file with the import statement in JSP like
<%@ import = "sridhar.source.useful.*" %>
Now from the JSP file i want to execute some of the methods in simple.java.
I tried this one by importing the simple.java in my JSP file,but i am getting some errors:
variables that i have declared in Java files are not defined.
The JSP is not importing the class simple.java
I am executing my JSP in weblogic6.1(webserver is IPlanet)
shall i need to set any classpath for this in the weblogic shell script??
pls clarify me if any configuration is to be made or not??
regards
NaiduFor JSP with IPlanet/weblogic and imported custom classes:
Put your class / package in the correct folder. $path is any path you want....
Ex: package foo, class foorbar must be
$path/foo/foobar.class
All classes must be .class, not .jar.
Weblogic/IPlanet must be configured to have the CLASSPATH
$path/
(do not include foo/foobar!)
The JSP has
<%@ import "foo.*" %>
Your class may now be used just like the other imported classes. Say you have an object Foobar with a constructor, you can just say
Foobar myFoo = new Foobar();
I do this with my classes, so if you have any questions, just ask. -
MAMP home page works, but my own PHP file doesn't.
MAMP 1.7.2 is working oddly. I just installed it and the homepage works fine at the default address:
http://localhost:8888/MAMP/?language=English
However when I create a "hello, world" foo.php in the MAMP/test directory and load it with this URL:
http://localhost:8888/MAMP/test/foo.php
I get a page not found error.
Same with an .html file.
My sole clue: the file /Applications/MAMP/logs/apacheerrorlog contains this line:
[Fri Oct 10 16:29:50 2008] [error] [client ::1] File does not exist: /Applications/MAMP/bin/mamp/foo
Not clear to me why it expects the /bin/mamp extra directories.
And /Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf has this line, which seems right:
DocumentRoot "/Applications/MAMP/htdocs"
Any ideas why HTML and PHP files don't work?
Rig:
MAMP 1.7.2
Apache port: 8888
MySQL port: 8889
MacBook Air 1.6 Ghz Core 2 Duo
OS/X 10.5.5
2G RAM
80G hard disk, 50G freeActually I do know something, because it(url address) above does work on my Panther MAMP to load bs.php & bs.html files out of htdocs. And start page loads fine.

How to use mxml in a jsp file?
I'm trying to use flex in a .jsp file. I followed the
suggestion that I use the Flex 2 Tag library as suggested by this
link:
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_2_Tag_Library_for_JSP#Download_and_Installation
but I couldn't find it. I also downloaded LiveCycle Data Services
ES but couldn't find the flex-bootstrap.jar.
I have a simple example:
<!--<%@ taglib uri="FlexTagLib" prefix="mm" %>-->
Use the <mxml> tag to insert a Flex application in an
existing JSP page. The following example shows the <mxml> tag
with the source attribute to include an external MXML file:
<mm:mxml source="CustomerServiceChat.mxml"/>
Alternatively, you can use the <mxml> tag with inline
MXML source code, as the following example shows:
<mm:mxml>
<mx:Application xmlns:mx="
http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml"
xmlns="*">
<mx:Text label="Hello World">
</mx:Application>
</mm:mxml>
I also added the following code in my web.xml:
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>FlexTagLib</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/lib/flex-bootstrap.jar</taglib-location>
</taglib>
and obviously I get an error because I don't have the
flex-bootstrap.jar file. Please let me know how this can be
corrected. Thanks in advance!Adobe Newsbot hopes that the following resources helps you.

How to add entries a jsp file during a Source view
hi all,
im currently extending the tags present on BEA. im creating my own custom tag. when i tried to drag and drop it on the current source view of the jsp file..
is it possible for me to check the current source code of the jsp file first before preceding. For example. if the tag to be inserted must be within a certain tag only..
or modify an existing tag. say a <netui:form > and add some attributes on it.Looks like Crystal Reports is using log4j for logging, which is so badly designed that it throws a fit if the log4j configuration is missing.
All you need to do to get it to work is put a log4j.properties file in the classpath (google for a dummy file with default values). It usually needs to be put in the root of the classpath.
Or you can initialize the log4j logging for your own application properly and Crystal Reports will piggyback on it. -
From PHP to JSP for a search-responder.php
I have been asked to use the "search-as-you-type" solution offered up by Google at [http://code.google.com/p/search-as-you-type/|http://code.google.com/p/search-as-you-type/]. The documentation offered by Google is pretty much straight forward but of course the actual piece of code that gets the data is built in PHP and my client needs this to be used on a page serving up JSP.
I am learning JSP and moving from PHP and ASP and learning quickly but not quick enough to finish the project.
Would anyone be able and willing to help me convert the functions in the following PHP code into JSP?
Thanks in advance to anyone who takes the time to help me.

I have already been thoroughly surprised at how different JSP is from PHP. I am finding quite hard to wrap my head around the whole process to be honest.
I am beginning to see that JSP and PHP work in a totally different way than each other.
I am not technically trying to translate or convert the PHP file as much as I am trying to build a file in JSP that does the same functions. The main functions of the PHP script are commented by Google and should be easily enough re-written in JSP in order to produce similar results.
Since the output needs to be in a JSON format when passed to the .js file you'd think this would be better suited as a .jsp file as well or even a JAVA Applet, Servlet or even a bean. Since the whole site is already built in JSP for a multitude of other functions it seems likely that adding on more to read data from a source file and send it back to the .JS would be straight forward, but I could be wrong. But again I am not familiar enough with JAVA or JSP (yet) to make heads or tails of this.

Multiple tlds in web.xml
Have multiple taglib elements in your web.xml - see below.
<jsp-config>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://example/taglib</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/example.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
<taglib>
<taglib-uri>http://anotherexample/taglib</taglib-uri>
<taglib-location>/WEB-INF/anotherexample.tld</taglib-location>
</taglib>
</jsp-config>The jsp-config element should be just after the servlet-mapping element in servlet 2.3 spec.
For 2.4 spec, you can put it anywhere.
In your jsp, to use the tags from the two tag libraries, use 2 taglib directives
<%@ taglib prefix="example" uri="http://example/taglib" %>
<%@ taglib prefix="anotherexample" uri="http://anotherexample/taglib" %>
<example:tag1.................>
<anotherexample:tag2.................> etc2.
Mutliple tags per tld
Have multiple <tag> elements in your tld.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<!DOCTYPE taglib PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JSP Tag Library 1.2//EN" "http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-jsptaglibrary_1_2.dtd">

Interesting snippet
If you are using a 3rd party tag library, then the tags would come packaged in a jar file. The MTEA-INF directory of the jar file would contain the tlds and the tld would have an uri element. You can use it directly in the jsp without declaring the tld file in web.xml provided the jar file is in your classpath.
For example, take the struts tag libraries, say the logic tags.
The struts.jar contains, among other things, the tag class files and the tld files (inside /META-INF/tlds)
All you have to do is put Struts.jar in the classpath (easy way to do this is put it in the WEB-INF/lib directory of your web-application).
The jar file has struts-logic-1.1.tld in the META-INF/tlds directory.
This tld file looks like this
<taglib>
<tlibversion>1.2</tlibversion>
<jspversion>1.1</jspversion>
<shortname>logic</shortname>
<uri>http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-logic</uri>
..................Now to use the tags in your jsp, you dont require the tld mappings in web.xml using the uri above in the taglib directive in your jsp
<%@ taglib prefix="example" uri="http://jakarta.apache.org/struts/tags-logic" %> cool, right ? :)
This is how you should pkg your own tags too. The tag classes have to be jarred and the tlds should go into the META-INF of the jar so that other users can simply add the jar to the cp and start using your tags.

Hi!
If I have a common directory in the Tomcat's Webapps directory, where all the includable files are, how can I include one of those jsp files in my web application?
In php you can do this:
include_once ( "../../library/DBConnection.php" );
But can you include a file in jsp, which is not in the directory of the web app, but is in an "upper" directory?
The "<%@ include file="../database.jsp"%>" format is not good.
ThanxReally? It is working fine for me. If ../database.jsp doesn't work then the file doesn't exist in the location that tomcat is expecting it to be. you say you have a common folder, so shouldn't it be ../common/database.jsp ?

JSP file extension: other than .jsp
Is it possible with Tomcat to have a JSP file with an extension any other than .jsp? If it is what should I do to make it possible?
Please point me to the right direction.
Cheers,
AlexeiIn the default web.xml the.jsp extension is mapped to the jsp servlet. You can override this or add your own mapping:
<!-- The mapping for the JSP servlet -->
<servlet-mapping>
<servlet-name>jsp</servlet-name>
<url-pattern>*.jsp</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>Change the url-pattern to what you want and add to the web app's web.xml. -

Jassias far as i know, jsp can go anywhere in your webserver directory. if installed correctly that is. its like php, if u know anything about that.
