Package Request: Adventure Game Studio

AGS recently went open source and we're trying to organise ourselves to port and maintain the code base.
Would anyone be interested in maintaining an Arch package for AGS?
We have a preliminary Linux port here: https://gitorious.org/ags
It builds relatively well but lacks 64bit support due to some pointer to int casts and other related issues (which we would also like help with if anyone feels inclined )
I've tried to build it myself but I use a 64 bit version of Arch and to be honest I dont quite understand how to build 32 bit programs on a 64bit install.. My linux skills in general are fairly poor.
Any takers?

I had some problems finding an up-to-date tarball. The version available on most gnu ftp servers (1.3) would not compile, but there is a maintainance release 1.3.2 here: http://www.cs.caltech.edu/~mvanier/hack … 3.2.tar.gz. Initially, it would not download, and wget gave the error message:
Resolving www.cs.caltech.edu... failed: Temporary failure in name resolution.
But eventually I got it home, somehow. That's why the pkgbuild below uses a local file.
I've managed to compile/make/make install the program, and it works fine, but makepkg ends up like this:

==> Stripping debugging symbols from libraries...
==> Stripping symbols from binaries...
==> Generating .PKGINFO file...
==> Generating .FILELIST file...

and the outcome is a useless 500b package. I assume/suspect that makepkg removes some files which the program needs or something?, but I don't know how to check that or fix it.

How to send a packaging request with a multiline description

If I try to send a package request with this metadata description:
<dc:description xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/">First Line
Second Line</dc:description>
Notice there is a carriage return between "First Line" and "Second Line".
Then, the server will return a E_ADEPT_DISTRIBUTOR_AUTH error.
If I remove the carriage return the packaging is done well.
I would like to know how to send the multiline description or if it is not posible.

It's not the faxformat in ITCPO.
What I figured out by comparing my program with another program (printout of balance sheets) is that this other program is able to fax or to print but not at the same execution. When you execute the balance sheet program in order to fax, the sapscript formular is created with the printer POSTSCPT (driver: POST) and code page 1117. When you execute it for printouts another printer can be choosen and the code page is 1110.
Could this be the problem of not beeing able to fax an existing spool (sapscript) request? Or is there a way to convert the OTFDATA from code page 1110 to 1117?

SSIS package works in Visual Studio but not as a scheduled Job.

I have a SSIS package that takes some CSVs and Excel documents and imports the data into a database. The CSVs and Excel document come from outside agencies so I have no control over them. I have successfully created and ran the SSIS package in
BIDS (Visual Studio) However, when I try to run it as a scheduled job on the SQL server I get the following error.
Source: Import Brazos CSV data Brazos Co CSV [1] Description: Data conversion failed. The data conversion for column "offDescription" returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no
match in the target code page."
The column is set to ignore on truncation in the data flow source.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The error usually occurs due to the data conversion between non-Unicode and Unicode characters. According to your description, the data type of the Output Columns of the Flat File Source should be DT_STR. If the source flat file uses Unicode encoding and
contains Unicode characters, the data conversion from DT_WSTR to DT_STR will fail. So, I guess the source file in your Dev environment doesn’t have Unicode characters, while the source file on the SSIS server has Unicode characters. If this is the case, open
the Advanced Editor for the Flat File Source, switch to the Input and Output Columns Properties tab, and change the data type of the Output columns from DT_STR to DT_WSTR. In this condition, the Data Conversion Transformation is not necessary.

Are there any new adventure games like Myst ?

I dearly loved Myst and regret that there is no version compatible with later Mac operating systems like Tiger and Leopard. Does anyone know of newer similar adventure games I can play on my Mac Mini running 10.4.11?

Myst III, IV, V are all Mac compatible.

Realmyst is a newer release of the original Myst that is available for Mac OS X.
The Mac Mini has too slow a GPU to run Riven X. You need an iMac minimum for Riven X. The Mac Mini unfortunately has a shared VRAM GPU. Same is true of the MacBook. The iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac Pro are the only Macs with full ATI and/or nVidia GPUs.

I can't find the appx or xap package from windows app studio souce code in visual studio 2015

I created a project from Windows App Studio then downloaded the source code and modify it. I set all configuration to Release Any CPU. But after rebuilding solutions several times there are no appx or xap package files found. How to create appx package

For that right click on the solution folder in Visual Studio, and you would find an option to create App Packages.

Mitigating DRM creating packages from Steam games?

In the light of recent events (http://www.reddit.com/r/Steam/comments/ … irst_game/), do you think it will be wise to create AUR packages from Steam games? These packages could be rebuilt everytime we want, considering that games can be updated.
Before you said it, i know, this is our fault for accepting Steam with all its DRM crap included. That's why this is a mitigation, not a solution.

You have a naive undestanding of how steam and DRM works in general. (And possibly AUR, hard to tell)
If a binary is locked to steam and valve says you can no longer play this game then you cannot start it even if you have all the files.
In theory it could work in the so called "offline mode" for a while, but it will demand an internet connection sooner or later and then no game for you.
Steam is DRM and they made it clear you are not buying the games, you just buy a license to play. If you want to create backups that will work don't buy steam games, use DRM free shops like the Humble Store or GOG.

2d character adventure game..

Hi, my next project (thanks to noah.w, and several others who have helped me develp my previous games), is going to be a 2d character adventure game. I want to do this to learn how to do tile like map games without all the complicated code. Its going to be like Mario games for the old nintendo, and not like pokemons. For one part of the scenary I was going to just use clouds/sky as the background, and then the ground will just be grass that i'll make. But I was wondering how I would scroll the background. Like say I make the skyish background, and the guy is walking around and the sky scrolls down the screen and when the full image doesn't fill the screen, it puts the same one on one side to fill it all up. I was thinking of making to rectangles to hold the dimensions of the two parts of the sky and just scroll them and when one of them gets two far away it goes back to the finish. Hows that sound? I'll try it.
Any sugsetions would be cool.
One other thing, if I make a game targeted for PC's will it still run on a cell phone?

I made a 2d left to right spaceship adventage game, and in the game I used the same method you had mention for the sky background which is using a whole image to cover up the screen bg then double that image size by two, so it got enough room to move for a while...and the tricky bit is to make the image at the back looks like connect to the front, this can be done by cut and paste with careful planning =).
But one disvantage of this is if you are using big size screen, then bigger image size you will needed and it could slow down the game speed.

HT4211 How to accept friend request in game center?

I am trying to add a friend in game center. I can see the request but when I hit the request the screen goes to my friend list and there is no request present. Alternatively when I try to find him I get the message "Friend request failed. Unable to send friend request". I know he does not have any problem adding friends and this is the first time I have seen this message. Funny thing is it happened right after I did the update to iOS7.1.
Notifications are allowed for game center on my phone, parental settings are off, and I have allowed people to request to be my friend in settings.
Any suggestions??

Nvm I figured it out. Very stupid! Recently changed my password and game center will still run eventhough you didn't change the password for game center as well. Simply restarted my iPhone and everything is fine. Just wish there would have been some sort of notification when I first accessed game center after changing my Apple ID password.

How do I load an SSIS package created in Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated) onto SQL Server 2012 using SQL Management Studio 2012

I am fairly new to this whole process of working with the Microsoft development environment. Here is what I have to work with:
an NT server running Microsoft SQL 2012 - Microsoft SQL Server Standard (64-bit) 11.0.2100.60
and on my laptop (all freebie downloads):
SQL Server Management Studio 2012 ver 11.0.2100.60
Visual Studio 2012 Express for Desktop Development and
Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
I was able to create an SSIS package in
2012 Shell (Integrated). It takes a flat file and imports it into an SQL database table. It runs successfully from within the
2012 Shell (Integrated) envrionment.
But I am having trouble figuring out how to set this up on the 2012 SQL Server. I see that one of my colleagues created an Integration Services Catalog,
and using SQL Management Studio I was able to create a folder under that called DigLic. But when I go to the Projects subfolder of DigLic and attempt to import my SSIS package, I get an error message:
"To launch the Integration Services Deployment wizard, one of the components: Integration Services, Management Tools - Basic or Business Intelligence Development Studio has to be installed by the SQL Server
2012 Standard, Enterprise, Developer, or Evaluation Edition. To install a component, run SQL Server Setup and Select the component name"
I realize that Express Versions of Visual Studio lack the full feature set of a professional version. But am I wrong in assuming that owning a server version of SQL Server 2012 gives us license to a professional
version of SQL Management Studio 2012? If so, how would I go about getting this software component installed? And I am not clear if this is something that needs to be installed on our SQL Server or if I simply need a professional version of SSMS
loaded on my laptop.
I work for a company that is fairly fractured in its repsonsibilities, so I would need to know exactly what to ask for if I need to track down any licenses that I might need and if I need to have any specific software installed on our SQL server or on my
laptop.

Thank you for your reply. But at this point, one of my points of confusion is what software I have available to me. I wish I had a useful central help desk to call up and just say, "Hey, load me up with all of the professional version(s) of Visual
Studio. But I do not know what we have license to. And I kind of need to know what the options are, so that I can ask a specific question of our vast buracracy.
For now, I have downloaded only free versions of Visual Studio client software. Since my company does have servers running Microsoft SQL Server, I am going to assume that we have proper licensing for those servers. But does that server license
allow me to get any professional versions of the PC client software for the various Visual Studio(s) 2012?
And if I get a professional version of Visual Studio 2012, does that do away with the three different flavors that I have right now? I have 2012 versions of SQL Server Management Studio, Visual Studio Express, and Visual Studio Shell (Integrated).

Issue with the Package/request while creating service from function module

I'm creating a service form a function module. After the web service creator starts, There is a last step that asks for package and transport request. If i choose local objects, showing error as "Test Objects cannot be created in foriegn namespaces. If i give the package as it is in the attributes of the function module and transport request, showing error as " No tasks exists under the request. What is transport request??
please if anyone has recently done such a process with NetWeaver PI 7.1. help me..

You have to create a package for your objectsin SE80 transaction.
How?

Then assign this package name in your webservice creation.
When asked for a transaport request, create one(You will find a create transport request inthe pop up which prompts you for creation of transport request).

Which redistributable package should be installed at the client side for binaries built with either Visual C++ 2013 Update 3 or 4?

My system, which has installed VS2013 Update 3, also has "vcredist_x86.exe" and "vcredist_x64.exe", at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 12.0\VC\redist\1033", but these having a higher version number: 12.0.30501.0
A colleague of mine has installed VS2013 Update 4, but has the same redistributable files as my VS2013 Update 3 installation: version 12.0.30501.0.
Is it correct to conclude that
the VS2013 redistributables at Microsoft's Download Center (12.0.21005.1) are outdated?
VS2013 Update 3 and Update 4 based applications may share the very same redistributable package (12.0.30501.0)?

Maybe we cannot say it is not uploaded. We can see the package is named as
Visual C++ Redistributable Packages for Visual Studio 2013 Update 4
So the package may only specific for one version and does not mean it should have Visual C++ Redistributable Packages
for Visual Studio 2013 Update 2
If you want to report anything you can consider use Connect:

However I don't think we need to report this case on Connect.
For your last question, since the version 30501 seems to be the update version of 21005, I think you will not have them together. Anyway, for this particular VC++ runtime, I would recommend you keep it update to date.

Then you may get the latest features. And if you have any specific reason that you need a specific version, I think we can handle it case by case. For example, if you want to deploy you C++ application and you need a runtime version.
