Pacman. Cannot install previously uninstalled package from cache

Hi all.
I'm trying to install packages from shared cache to keep few machines in sync. I thought using "pacman -U --needed /path/to/cache/*" would solve it. However when I started testing I've noticed that when one package is removed I cannot install it  back that way. Pacman will just skip that package for some reason. If i use the same command but specify the the package /path/to/package/package_name or even first letter followed by * it will also install it. Why is that?

Is it possible that the '*' is expanded in some unexpected way?
I'm not using nfs, I tested it by uninstalling aurphan and running
$ sudo pacman -U --needed /var/cache/pacman/pkg/*

start at the top and work your way down applying applicable fixes until your problem is resolved.
    if cc (win):  https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/creative-cloud-desktop-application-failed.html
    if, your error is:
"Installer failed to initialize. File not found." or "Installer failed to initialize. This could be due to missing files."
first, rename OOBE Folder to OOBE.old.
    to find OOBE:

if that fails or isn't the exact error you see, uninstall, clean (http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html) and reinstall.
if you're using a dvd to install:
copy the disc contents to a desktop directory and install from that directory.
    if you're using a mac:
    1. Try to Create a new user account in Mac with Administrator Priviledges.
    2. Login to the New user, Navigate to Mac HD> Application> Utilities> Adobe Installer folder, Locate products like Adobe Reader, Adobe Flash, Adobe Air and un-install them
    3. Navigate to User Library> Application Support> Adobe and move Adobe to Trash.

  • Cannot install nor uninstall Analyzer for Excel add-in

When I try to run the Analyzer installer executable, which was downloaded directly from our BI Publisher server version 10.1.3.2, the installer only asks if I wish to UNinstall the add-in. Since I have no other choice, I say yes, thinking I can start all over. It goes through it's cute little progress bars and states that it finished uninstalling. No matter how many times I run the installer, it always asks if I want to uninstall the currently installed add-in.
The add-in does NOT appear in the list of installed add-ins inside Excel.
That's just for starters. If I open an Excel Analyzer template workbook, the 'Oracle BI Publisher' menu appears. When I try to login, it says that the add-in must be updated, so I confirm. Then it successfully connects to our BI Publisher server, and starts downloading/installing various files. But this process terminates with an error, stating that the update process failed, and I will not be able to refresh the data.
There is an entry in the Windows Add/Remove Programs utillity that corresponds to the Excel Analyzer Add-in. No matter how many times I click the Remove button, this item will not be removed from the list. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling .NET Framework 2.0 SP1 and repeating this entire process. The result is always the same. I can neither install nor uninstall the Analyzer add-in.
Is there any way to make the installer re-install the Analyzer without thinking it's already installed? Is there some utility provided by Oracle that will manually remove the mess that is Analyzer for Excel?
I HATE the Analyzer for Excel, but it's the only interface to our data warehouse that everyone is skilled enough to use.

After failing to uninstall the program again, I tried using the 'Repair' option of the XMLPReportAddinSetup.msi package. That seemed to finish normally.
So then I tried to open an Analyzer template file. It opened, but when I tried to use the 'Login' item from the 'Oracle BI Publisher' menu, it said it needed to update the add-in. Instead of updating it, I chose to UNINSTALL the program, because I thought it would now have enough pieces to complete the uninstallation. It still won't uninstall. It is still listed in Add/Remove programs.
The next time I did the whole process again, and when I got to the point where the add-in says it needs to update from the server, I confirmed. This update again failed with an error.
I still cannot uninstall the program. I noticed also that the date on the program in the Add/Remove Programs listing is from Sept 30, not today.

  • Cannot install InDesign once removed from computer

    Hi Indesign users,
    Here are some tech details:
    1. MacMini 3.1, 6Gb RAM, OS X 10.9
    2. Adobe CC - InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
    3. InDesign worked without errors until this morning.
    4. No updates from yesterday (Saturday, Novermber 30) and today (December 1st)
    5. No fonts installed in between.
    What I did:
This morning (December 1st) I tried to open an InDesign file to check if my collaborator finished the project. The file is hosted on Dropbox in a folder we are sharing. Therefore, I did what I am always doing with any of my IND files: double click on it to open it. It opened the file, showed me a white screen with all the InDesign tools and menus. And it stood that way for several minutes until I decide to force IND to quit.
Then I tried again to open just the IND software. IND started to gave me an error like: IND is shuting down from a serious error.....
I turned off the computer and started it again. InDesign opened the file properly, but I cannot do anything: no scrolling, no navigating between pages, nothing. It was frozen showing me a rainbow circle cursor for minutes. Therefore I decide, again, to force the software to close. I cannot open InDesign at all after that. The same message of a serious error is showed.
I delete all kind of files based on things I read on the forum: from caches, workplaces etc. Nothing worked.
As I had enough of those errors I was experiencing several months ago, I decide to completeely remove the InDesign hoping that I can reinstall it again, clean without errors.
I delete all instances where InDesign might be present. At least I think that way.
I shut down the computer and open it again, went to Creative Cloud Desktop Manager and when I tried to choose install InDesign, surprise. The manager is shopwing me that InDesign is Up to Date. I cannot install it.
    Please help.
I did a complete instalation of my MAC a month ago just to get rid of those InDesign errors. I had enough of it. I do not care to reinstall my MAC again from zero just because that damn application.
    Warm regards,
    Sebastian
P.S. I just read on an older post something. In that folder I am sharing there is a file having the extension: *.idlk That's why I cannot open the InDesign file? What to do in the future when I see files like that? Anyway, that is now unimportant since it will not save me from missing installing option for InDesign.

    Hi Peter,
I finally manage to make a clean install of InDesign. I remove it using the uninstall option then I reboot computer entered to creative cloud desktop application and I installed InDesign. Now it is working without hassle.
Thank you very much for your support and for making time to read and answer. Much appreciate it.

  • [SOLVED] Script to clear all but the current packages from cache?

Has anyone written, found such a script, or like to write one?
It just has to delete all older duplicate packages in /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ .  After which keeping a superseded copy of packages just comes down to when you use the script.
It would keep the /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ directory slimmer, (though it would still have more than is required in it I know) & ensure a quick recovery through downgrading to a known good package when required.
It would be so easy to run the script before an -Syu --aur  so that if you have any problems you still have the superseded version of whatever, that you can downgrade to until the problem is solved

  • Pacman -S faile to retrieve packages from [custom]

    Hi Forum
I have installed Arch in an external USB HDD
    /dev/sdb1 -> /boot
    /dev/sdb2 -> /
    /dev/sdb3 -> swap
    /dev/sdb4 -> /mount/Arch_repo
    in .../Arch_repo I have a snapshot of [community], [core] and [extra];
I have configured [community], [core] and [extra] in pacman.conf so as to point to the proper locations in the folders.
    I also have a /mount/My_repo
in My_repo I dump all packages I built from AUR, plus my own packages created from my own PKGBUILDs and enabled [custom] in pacman.conf to point to that place.
Yet when I run pacman -Syu ( academic example, since my Arch_repo is static, the snapshot is not supposed to change, since this setup will be used to create a LiveDVD as soon as a finish packing and installing everything I want ) pacman complaints it cannot find custom.db.tar.gz.
Good point... it does not exist... ... so pacman does not know the contents of [custom] and whatever i dump there; I have compared to community.db.tar.gz, and found out this gzip is a whole set of folders with the names of packages containing each one the package manifest and the dependences list.
Is there any tool to build this for a custom repo, or must I create this by hand...?
My question is of particular importance since I am thinking about using a tool that checks the the existing packages in the system ( pacman -Q ) and then uses them to build a live Image of that system, ArchISO; if these packages cannot be "seen" inside some repo ( missing custom.db.tar.gz ) their inclusion in my live image is very likely not to occur...
And lots of packages I want to include in my Live contraption are in [custom]... so how do i fix this thing....??
I mean... for ArchISO to work, and include packages from a repo, the tar.gz of that repo's database must exist... is there some way I can create this for [custom]...?

  • Satellite Z930-14F - cannot install Win 8.1 from SCCM 2012 R2 environment

    Dear all,
Sattelite Z series laptops cannot install OS (win 8.1) from our SCCM 2012 R2 environment.
Either no installation is starting, or pxe boot aborted error is showed.
The environment is used to successfully install OS (win 8.1) on different other vendor computers (dell) and virtual machines (hyper-v and vmware).
I've tried both UEFI and CMS boot options and tried to switch off the secure boot. Please advice.
Also, i've read about the "SCCM installation package for Toshiba". Will it help in my situation or is it just driver packages for SCCM?
    Best Regards, Evgeny.

I guess you are speaking about this Toshiba package:
    http://www.toshiba.eu/services/on-demand/business-computing/sdp120gs-v/
I dont have much experience using such SCCM drive package but it definitely compatible with the Toshiba business notebooks. The Satellite / Portege Z930 belong to the business range and I think the package should be compatible.
This package seems to be for all IT administrators who manage devices on the corporate network with SCCM 2012 R2. Toshiba offers with the new Toshiba SCCM package a solution to integrate other notebook into an existing IT infrastructure quickly and smoothly and all Toshiba Driver and application packages and a demonstration task sequence are integrated.
However, it seems that you could get more details about this package directly from Toshiba [email protected]
By the way: The Win 8.1 installation requires the UEFI mode (in case the UEFI BIOS is available). But booting from another, external source requires the disabled secure boot option.
So maybe you should use the UEFI mode but should disable the secure boot option in order to boot from LAN.

  • A simple script that removes older packages from cache dir

    Hello all,
I wrote a small bash script that removes packages (from cachedir /var/cache/pacman/pkg), older than the ones available in repositories (eg. if the current version of pacman is 2.6.3, it will remove pacman-2.6.2 from cachedir). It implements the functionality of debian's 'apt-get autoclean'.
    Get it from http://www.kegep.tuc.gr/~manolis/archlinux/cleanold.sh.

thanks a lot for sharing this

  • Apps to Install and Uninstall Icons from Launchpad

I have found an application by a third party that installs in the System Preference file that allows you to Add or Delete any Icon from Launchpad with just a click.
I have installed the program and it works very good - no problems.
I also run NORTON Internet Security 5 for MAC and the program went though the filters and checks with NO problems.
Below is the link that takes you to the developer and download sight by a developer named Chaosspace.de
    http://chaosspace.de/launchpad-control/
Good luck and I hope this help everyone, this problem is very frustrating!

Why?  In general this type of setup is handled by using standard Windows authentication.  Normal users cannot install/uninstall programs.  The problem solves itself.  You cannot technically prevent an admin from removing a program.
It simply isn't possible.  As an admin I can remove the folder containing your program and it is effectively uninstalled.  I can manually remove any registry entries you create and it is uninstalled.  I can basically manually uninstall anything
that you install as an admin.

  • [SOLVED] Pacman: cant install, remove, update packages

I'm new to Arch, and yes I've read the Wiki and the sticky post "pacman error: FILENAME exists in filesystem".

  • Cannot Install Mac OSX upgrade from 10.5.1 to 10.5.5

Initially tried Software Update but this failed to complete. Stalled on "Configuring Installation".
Used Disk Utility to repair permissions.
Tried to manually update to 10.5.5 with downloaded file but this also failed, message:
"You cannot install Mac OS X Update on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update."
    Should I reinstall 10.5.1?

Did you try to install the complete combo update (601 MB) or the smaller one (310 MB)?
You need the larger one. The smaller one is only for updating from 10.5.4

  • Cannot install Leopard on G4Pbook from Disk Image

    G4 Powerbook 1.67, 1.5GB RAM, 10.4.11
I have a backup of my Universal Leopard disc on a bare SATA drive that I use as an installer drive, via USB and drive adapter. Much faster than reading the DVD and no need to swap discs. Anyway, I was able to use it to upgrade my Mac Pro last year, but now that I'm finally getting around to my PBook it won't install from the external drive. I open the installer file but it tells me "the application cannot be run from this disk" and I can only quit. On other machines the installer ran and I was able to restart the machine to boot into the Leopard install. The 'Startup Disk' in the Prefs doesn't list the Leopard partion on the SATA drive as a viable system disk, so that may be the issue there. Do G4s have issues with seeing USB drives as startup disks?
I don't have the original Leopard DVD with me, so I need to come up with other options for installing. Target Disk from my tower and run the install that way?
    TIA, JK

    Hi
+Do G4s have issues with seeing USB drives as startup disks?+
Yes in the sense they won't work. AFAIK PPC architecture macs will only boot from certain external firewire drives - depends on the chipset. Oxford Semiconductor is one chipset that I know that works - there are others. I'm not absolutely certain but I think it's safe to say the later Intel Macs (last year or so) will boot from external USB drives as long as they're USB 2.
You should be able to boot your MacPro using the external drive (as you've done before) and target disk mode the G4 to your MacPro. It should present itself as a viable destination source when you run the Installer.
