Pacman fails installing Tuxguitar

I tried to install Tuxguitar but ran into the following error:
[tj@arch ~]$ LC_ALL=C sudo pacman -S tuxguitar

Errors occurred, no packages were upgraded.
Is that a known problem (did not find anything related in the forum though) or something only I experience?

Ok, I understand - but immediately ran into a new problem:

  • Pacman fails on package android-glass-gdk-19

Upon trying to run makepkg -s on this package https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/android-platform-19/
    I encounter the following error:
    [charles@cat android-glass-gdk-19]$ ls

    [charles@cat android-glass-gdk-19]$ makepkg -s

    error: target not found: android-platform-19
==> ERROR: 'pacman' failed to install missing dependencies.
    [charles@cat android-glass-gdk-19]$
    perhaps anyone has any suggestions?

Oh okay, perhaps there is a way around this? I can see that the android-platform-19 target is not found, how can I get pacman to install this?
I can tell by your shorthanded response I should perhaps take my question to the newbie corner?

  • Pacman Errors: Installing ndiswrapper

I'm currently installing Arch-Linux on my laptop, and everything has gone well. But, I am having a little trouble using Pacman to install Ndiswrapper on my machine. I first attempted to install it, and it appeared to download all the dependencies and packages. It then spit out a huge error, and when I attempted to install once again - I got the same error:

Welp, I've come to the conclusion that I am either doing something wrong, or that my installation source (USB flash drive) somehow is corrupt.
I've been avoiding removing the 'asm' symbolic link on my laptop and everything has been going pretty smoothly, but today I decided to install Arch on my desktop computer. I have a Nvidia card and when installing the drivers using Pacman, it runs into conflicts - just like it did when trying to download and install Ndiswrapper.
So, thinking that the asm problem was isolated to my laptop, I went ahead and deleted the symbolic link:
    rm /usr/lib/klibc/include/asm
I then list the contents of the 'include' directory and the 'asm-x86' directory is still there and the symbolic link is removed. Perfect.
So I reboot and everything goes smoothy. I install the Nvidia drivers and then decide to examine my 'include' directory again. Oddly enough, the 'asm-x86' directory is gone, and a new directory called 'asm' exists! It appears to have all the same files within. As I expected, I reboot and it drops me into the ramfs command prompt with very limited commands. Now I am not sure if the above is the reason why this keeps happening to me, but it is just something I noticed that changes.
I got curious, loaded Arch from my USB drive, mounted my root partition and then tried to recreate the original directory structure, but no go.
Pacman is awesome and makes things so much easier to install. I'd hate to have to avoid it for certain important installations. If anyone has some updates for me, or any kind of advice - I'd greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you.

  • Mirror error? pacman failing to fetch xorg/alsa etc.

just did my second install of arch and pacman fails to fetch xorg and alsa etc. saying error: failed to open file /var/lib/pacman/(filename) I have no idea whats going on here, frist install worked fine. the only thing i can think of is maybe the mirror isnt working, I used ftp@dal, canada. any help is very much welcome

    Trilby wrote:
OK, this was a very small step in the right direction: you posted the error ... but was that the actual error?  Did it really say 'file A' from mirror A, or is that a shorthand you are using?
Either way I also asked for you to post your mirror list so we could see what you have done to it.  I'm quite confident now the error is in your mirror list and/or pacman.conf.  IF you post those files (the actual content of those files, not a description or interpretation of them) then and only then will anyone be able to help you.
how can i when i have no software installed? yes that is shorthand. and currently its failing on all files. i can hand type all these files in but it will take some time. if im missing something because im new, please say so.

  • Current progress in fixing 10.4.6 failed install

I'm now making some progress in understanding the failiure, however it's leaving me with some BIG questions as to the checks apple put in.
This still hasn't fully worked for me! This is also an abbreviated account, please don't try unless your familiar with a shell prompt! Once I know what's going on better, I'll expand.
I've so far done the following (appologies for any typos, I7m typing on a tiny pda keyboard).
    booted from dvd
    opened a terminal.
    noted chroot /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD/ /bin/bash seg faults
created a dir fakesys at the root of the hd
copied /var /bin /sbin and /usr from the dvd dir into fakesys
    made a tmp dir there
copied the pkg dir for the upgrade which had been moved out of trash just before I rebooted to the fakesys dir as well as stuff like gunzip from /usr/bin on the hd.
    chrooted to fakesys running bash
    gunziped the Archive.pax.gz
made a subdir, and from it pax -r -f ../Archives.pax
backed up the /usr/lib from the hd (using tar cf - * | tar xf - - C <dest> to preserve links perms etc ... no man pages so couldn't look up the cp switches to do that! . Backed up kernel too
did the same tar trick to install all updates from root
noted a few files were a lot smaller, such as libMath something, libobjc and the kernel...
tried chroot, diffferent error, about math lib. put in old,and chroot worked!
rebooted... no joy... back to dvd, replace old kernel
rebooted... (watching in verbose mode)... system got some way, than auto rebooted as per upgrade! (excitment rose!)
as comming up again, lots of errors about libobjc.. booted from cd and replaced.
    tried again in verbose mode.
looked good but then Firewall.app failed. after that I got lots of memberd couldn't find root users. Now on further reboots it panics with the kernel straight away.
I'll keep on digging, and will update this thread as I discover more. I think the problem maybe the library files i had to roll back, as the dmesg command still seg faults in the chrooted environment

Where did you obtain this? If the install failed,
isn't it possible or even likely that the file was
damaged at that point & the truncation is a result of
that? I'm no expert, but the man page for pax says
something about it only partially extracting files if
one is terminated by errors. Additionally, there is a
cryptic man entry under "bugs" about pax not
recognizing multibyte characters, which may be a part
    of it.
Also, in another thread, you mention terminal was
open at the time of the install. Were you doing
anything that could have caused the install to fail?
Terminal was open (I normally have it open for ssh/scp to other machines), but wasn't running anything except bash.
As I said, I obtained the file via Software Update, left it downloading to install then went to work. When I returned I had a message the install had failed, and the pkg was in the recycle bin. The machine would not run anything from this point, and even shutdown failed. Is it likely that a failed install would truncate the file? I really can't see why. Why would you write to an archive file in an install situation? Anyway, as I said, I can't say much on pax archives, but the archive was compressed. If you have a hard time understanding my confusion, try the following experiment. take a copy of one of your files, then do the following with a reasonable large file (split by default splits after 1000 lines):
    % gzip <file>
    % split <file>.gz
    % mv xaa xaa.gz
    % gunzip xaa.gz
Split will create several files (slipting your compressed file). You'll see unziping a truncated file produces an error.
Now it is quite possible that the install uses something like gzcat, which only produces errors at the end, such as "gzcat Archive.pax.gz | pax -r" the thing is, running gunzip Archive.pax.gz on the file SU downloaded produced no errors, so that's what confuses me. At any rate, it is best practice to checksum patch archives before running, and apple clearly don't do this, which is incredibly poor. I'm really not sure why there are a large number of people on this forum who find it so hard to believe that apple can do no wrong, and that every fault must be that of the user. Apple are not perfect, far from it. This is beginig to tire me. I found a solution when everyone else seemed to be saying use another mac, or re-install. I looked into what happened, and found the update the su had downloaded to be corrupt. I came up with a fix and shared. I think apple should look into this, and take feedback on several issues I've raised (and I'm sure others who found what I did would comment on too). If you want to insist it's not an apple problem, that's your perogative. I'd be the first to admit that I don't know much about macs (and didn't have much nice to say about them pre-osx), however, I do have a lot of experience with unix, and that's what I'm basing my comments on, and what I used to fix my mac.Anyway, enough ranting I need sleep.

  • Java for Mac OS X 10.5 update 2 fails install

So, I saw the news today. New Java update. Cool, I guess. Check for Software Updates, found Java update, downloaded, and failed install. So, I went and manually downloaded the new Java update and it does the same thing. When it fails installing, it says this: "The source media you are installing from is damaged. Try installing from a different copy of the source media or contact the manufacturer for replacement." Apple is gonna get me a new iMac because Java won't install? Sweet! In all seriousness though, what the deuce is going on? The only thing I have tried, aside from searching the boards for answers, is repairing permissions which didn't do anything. Help?

They will replace the Java media, not your computer. But because you have downloaded the software there is no media to replace.
Obviously your download is damaged. Try again. Be sure you do the following before downloading and trying to install:
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Failed install now won't ever install properly

I attempted to install Firefox before, but the network security settings at the time never let me complete that install - it got stopped at the point where it had to reboot to finish.
Now it is caught in an endless loop of wanting to restart Windows all the time, but never completes. The security settings were changed to allow me to install, but now when I download and restart the download, or even when I go to the programs menu and attempt to UNINSTALL the program, it just goes back to the damn popup about needing to restart to complete the original install!!! How in the hell do I get rid of the old one? The folder was deleted from the PROGRAM FILES, but STILL gives me this crap!

Not really solved, but I figured out a work-around. I went to "custom" and installed it to a folder on my desktop, then moved it to my program files. However, I still have the rebooting link in my Start menu, and I can't uninstall the new one even -- goes back to the same garbage as above!
There is obviously some remnant of the old, failed install in the system that is screwing with things, but I don't know where/what!

  • Can't find routing connectors as shell won't find exchange server after failed install

I am trying to uninstall exchange 2010 after a failed install. When attempting to remove the Hub role I get an error that the computer is configured as a bridgehead server for 2 routing groups. I have seen how to find and remove them through the cmd shell,
however, due to the failed install (and the other bridgehead having a huge raid failure and being bricked) I can't locate the connection through the exchange shell. Any ideas on how to delete this connection so I can uninstall 2010 in order to re-install it.

    Hi,
Can you set the Exchange 2003 server as the bridge head then try uninstalling the Exchange 2010 server again.

You must use pacman -Syy when changing mirrors. openjpeg is at version 1.4-1. You should not expect to find openjpeg 1.3-3 anywhere.

    Hi flangemonkey,
that mirror was not synced yet when you did the upgrade (the last sync ended today at 10:54 UTC, about 17 mitues after you posted on this borad). It should be ok now, just try to redo the update. Next time, you may want to check first the status of the mirrors https://www.archlinux.org/mirrors/status

  • [Solved]Pacman fails to connect to server in Arch Virtual Machine

    Hi
I've just installed arch 2008.06 in VMWare Workstation 6.04 on Vista Business x64. The setup all went fine and i am now logged into my system, but Pacman refuses to connect to anything. i have tried Bridged networking and NAT to no avail. whenever i run 'pacman -Syy' i get the message
"error: failed retrieving file 'core.db.tar.gz' from ftp.archlinux.org : File unavailable (e.g.,file not found, no access)"
followed by the same message for each mirror in my mirrorlist, and then again for 'extra.db.tar.gz' and 'community.db.tar.gz', and then 'failed to synchronise any databases' at the end.
I have tried pinging google, as well as several of the arch mirrors and they all work fine. wget also seems to work fine, it's just pacman that's not working.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

That's what i thought too so i switched off the Vista firewall and still no luck. I am behind a hardware firewall here at work, but it shouldn't be blocking FTP traffic. i use FTP in windows all the time.
Just tried downloading a file using wget and it worked fine.

incoming is not a normal repo.
there are no straight packages in it (there should not be anyway)
you have to download the tarballed directories in it  within the untarred directory is the package which you can install via pacman -A , which means that you have to solve dependencies yourself.
