Pacman no longer working...

I did a pacman-optimize, and pacman -Scc just in case this was an issue local to my computer...? I've also tried using the US mirrors rather than the Great Britain mirrors. None of this has had any effect.

  • [Solved] Pacman no longer works at all!!

    Ok, did some searches and found a few hits, but not really sure how to fix this one. Here are 2 links I found.
    links:
    http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions … -libraries
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1232052
    In my case, I dont think any pacman option/command works. Cant run 'pacman' with ANY options or with no options??
    error:
    $ pacman
    pacman: error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
    I guess I was updating something using curl libraries, but not sure whats the best way to fix this.
    ldconfig -p | grep curl
    Returns nothing.
    Not sure if this was the right thing to do but I also tried this from the first link.
    echo /usr/local/lib | sudo tee -a /etc/ld.so.conf.d/local.conf
    Here is another one:
    $ sudo ldd $(which pacman)

    So looks like thats the issue .. libcurl.so.4 => not found ...
    I dont have strace installed and not sure if I need it to continue....I did a quick search and dont see a libcurl installed, so either i need to install it or remove that reference too it? LOL
    Any suggestions?

    Never use testing repos.
    I dont see anything for libcurl in that log, but I did see this recently for curl. Perhaps this is the culprit. Pacman -Sc ??

    I know for a fact that all of these packages aren't foreign. Any Ideas why this is acting like this?
    Edit: I suppose I should mention that It worked fine last week. I can't remember if I've used it since I upgraded to pacman 3 from testing, but I have used it with pacman 3 ( I was using the rc before it went to testing).

    For future reference, I got this fixed. I was looking around in /var/lib/pacman and I realized that the current folder was empty. Why this happened I do not know. I used pacman to reinstall a package from current (I used bash) and when it was installed, the current directory was regenerated.

  • Dead keys in keyboard no longer working

    I use "us-acentos"  keymap and since 2014-09-24 upgrade the dead keys are no longer working: typing apostrophe  followed by "e" should print "é" but instead it just prints the apostrophe.
    This under X both in bash and in a graphical editor such as leafpad, geany, netbeans. In a non-X session the dead keys do not work either, an apostrophe followed by "e"  will just display a space.
    Would anyone have any suggestion as to why this happened and how to correct it? Thank you.

    [2014-09-24 17:03] [PACMAN] upgraded xz (5.0.6-1 -> 5.0.7-1)

    Follow-up:
    1) I could restore the keyboard in X with this command:
    $ localectl set-x11-keymap us pc104 alt-intl
    which creates /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "system-keyboard"
    MatchIsKeyboard "on"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbVariant" "intl"
    Option "XkbOptions" "terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp"
    EndSection
    another option that worked was to rename /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf.pacsave to /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evdev.conf, which also contained the "XkbLayout" and "XkbVariant" lines under "InputClass" (the original file had been renamed to .pacsave in February 2013). See wiki:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ke … on_in_Xorg
    The output from localectl status now reads:
    System Locale: LANG=fr_CA.UTF-8
    VC Keymap: us-acentos
    X11 Layout: us
    X11 Model: pc105
    X11 Variant: intl
    X11 Options: terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp
    So it seems that the result of an earlier upgrade was to "unset" the keyboard for X (compare with output from localectl status in original post). Why?
    2) the keyboard in console (out of X) is still not working. If I try to set it to "us-alt-intl" in /etc/vconsole.conf, it works as "us" should (no dead keys); it I use "us-acentos" some keys do not work. locale-ctl shows that "us-acentos" does exist (but not "us-alt-intl").
    Mystery.

  • [SOLVED] USB 3G no longer works after upgrade to GNOME 3.8

    I did the 'big' update today, including upgrading to GNOME 3.8. Unfortunately, NetworkManager no longer picks up my 3G USB modem (which used to work fine before the update). Any pointers as to how I could debug this would be greatly appreciated.
    wvdial has never really worked for me, but gnome networkmanager used to pick up my device and the connection, and now simply acts as if it's no longer present. Attempting to follow the instructions on the wiki to re-setup my USB stick (the instructions I followed in the first place) no longer works. Did today's update cause the same problem for anybody else?
    **Update: After updating today to modemmanager 0.7.990-4 and running
    sudo systemctl enable ModemManager
    sudo systemctl start ModemManager
    I have full connectivity again with the built-in DW5550 mobile broadband card in my Dell Precision M6600 (including showing signal strength in the GNOME 3.8 top bar, etc). Thanks all for the help, and (most importantly) to whoever fixed up modemmanager!

    wvdial might also be a workaround, if one does not like to downgrade. In my case, I had to unset my PIN on the SIM card first. One can do that using a mobile phone, for example.
    Then
    # pacman -S wvdial
    in /etc/wvdial.conf, I put
    [Dialer Defaults]
    Init2 = ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0
    Modem Type = Analog Modem
    ISDN = 0
    Stupid Mode = 1
    Dial Attempts = 3
    Init1 = ATZ
    [Dialer huawei]
    Modem = /dev/serial/by-id/usb-ZTE_Incorporated_1_1_Surf-stick_MF19001MOD010000-if02-port0
    Baud = 115200
    [Dialer voda]
    Init3 = AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","web.vodafone.de"
    [Dialer dial]
    Phone=*99**1#
    Username = umts
    Password = umts
    You can find out your modem name by looking it up with
    ls /dev/serial/by-id/
    In my case there were names containing the strings if00, if01 and if02, and if02 turned out to be the correct one. This depends on hardware.
    Also, in the "Init 3" line, you may have to replace "web.vodafone.de" according to your provider. The section "dial" seems to be quite universal from what I read on the web, so you may not have to change that.
    then
    # wvdial huawei voda dial
    and hope for the best.
    Disclaimer: I do not have a comprehensive understanding of what I did here, but it worked in my case and it might work for you, too.
    I noticed that the Defaults section makes a difference, because the one I just edited in above avoids some delay in dialing.

  • [SOLVED] Openbox autostart no longer working since upgrade

    After the upgrade on May 14 2013 my autostart file no longer works. I tried renaming my autostart.sh to just autostart no luck. There is nothing wrong with the autostart file as I can run it manually and it will load all my apps. Also, if I cd to  /usr/lib/openbox/ and run openbox-autostart directly it works. • SCIM no longer works after last package update

    I just did the usual
    sudo pacman -Syu
    and now SCIM Pinyin chinese input no longer works:
    When I press the hot key to enable chinese input, it only shows "English/European" in the notification bar that pops up, and I cannot enter chinese characters. Also after activating the hotkey, the backspace key suddenly no longer works anymore, until I disable SCIM again by pressing the hot key once more.

    Thank you, actually it worked again after a reboot. (No idea why.)
    I reboot this PC very very rarely, it's not supposed to be rebooted.

  • Garmin ANT+  agent app no longer works after upgrading to Yosemite

    Hi,
    I have ANT Agent for my Garmin watch (version 2.2.2 - latest) which worked perfectly in Mavericks but no longer works in Yosemite.
    Can anyone help?

    Hello,
    Welcome to the forums.  Your post is fine in every way.  Introduction, problem description, what you have done -- perfect.  The package you reference is from the AUR which, as you know, is not in the main stream Arch distribution.  These community contributions are essential Arch, but have their own area in the forum to differentiate them.
    Moving this thread to AUR issues...
    As it turns out. This isn't a bug in AUR/easystroke. It is a bug in the latest xserver 1.10.902 (found in the "extra" repo)  Many applications are affected. Opera, chrome (if you are using the mouse gestures features for navigation) and it turns out that while i thought Maya wasn't affected, in reality, it is totally affected. most applications that use a mouse with right-clicks, middle clicks do not work properly.
    it's an upstream bug, that affects all distributions using the latest Xorg. I am not filing a bug report, because as i understand it, this bug has already been reported upstream by Ubuntu-devs (on launchpad).
    that latest update for Xserver, should have been tested better, before being an update available through pacman.
    On my system, i do not use any testing repos, only core, extra, and community. I do this to avoid situations, just like this. lol.
    I have work i need to get done today, but unfortunately, the only way that could happen is if i downgrade xserver (which i don't think is a smart idea). So, i guess i must wait for the next xserver update for arch. hopefully this happens in the next 24hours.
    I suppose i will have to use OSX for now, until this is properly addressed and fixed.
    anyway, i just wanted to point out that this bug has nothing to do (specifically) with Easystroke or AUR, that is just how i first noticed the bug. ( i just wanted to point that out, as you are a moderator ). This bug is in the main repos for Arch, and anyone updating today (or yesterday) will be affected, if they use applications where it's noticable.

  • [SOLVED]Laptop Internal SD card reader no longer working

    Two weeks ago I purchased a Raspberry Pi and set up my own SD card with Arch Linux ARM using the directions at http://archlinuxarm.org/platforms/armv6/raspberry-pi with the internal SD card reader on my laptop and had no issues.  Today I decided to load up a XBMC distro to a new SD card, but my internal card reader doesn't seem to autodetect or mount my new card.  I tried inserting my other card with Arch ARM that I know is a good card, but it no longer works with that card either.  Here are all my logs that I could think of to post for any advice:

  • Thinkpad T440s - ClickPad no longer working, not listed in /proc/...

    This started earlier today. My clickpad used to work fine, now it's completely non-functional. I'm currently using a Logitech wireless usb mouse, which you'll probably see in dmesg&co below.
    Some observations:
    if I just boot and don't touch anything except entering my credentials into gdm to login to GNOME Shell, (not touching the mouse/clickpad), I don't have a pointer at all. Touching/clicking the clickpad does nothing. Neither device is in /proc/bus/input/devices. If I move my mouse, the pointer appears and works normally, and I see my Logitech mouse in /proc, but the clickpad still doesn't work.
    Here's some output of various commands/files:
    xorg log
    dmesg
    proc/bus/input/devices  <-- clickpad not listed
    xinput <-- clickpad not listed
    lspci
    lsusb
    Here's some troubleshooting strategies I tried:
    - Reboot
    - Suspend, resume
    - disable/re-enable clickpad in BIOS
    - reinstall synaptics
    - uninstall/reinstall laptop-mode-tools
    - shutdown, remove battery, unplug, hold down power button for 2 mins (clear cmos?)
    - weep/pray to Linus
    - boot an Ubuntu live usb, confirmed clickpad is *not* working there.
    - Update BIOS
    - Tried reconnecting keyboard/trackpoint, wasn't able to access the connector, but it looked securely fastened
    None had any effect.
    I tried starting the synaptics daemon manually: syndaemon. But I get this: Unable to find a synaptics device.
    I also tried removing/reloading the kernel module with modprobe, but I'm not sure which module is the right one. psmouse did not do the trick.
    I looked through /var/log/pacman.log, to look for culprits, but the last major thing to be updated was systemd/linux on the 18th. The ClickPad was working fine this morning (suspend/resume worked fine). Specifically, it stopped working when I was in the car heading home for spring break. I had just compiled OpenJDK8 before I left, and installed "netbeans-devel". I suspended my laptop by closing the lid, got in the car. Reopened it, and then began to mess with Java 8. A suspend later and my clickpad was no longer working. I restarted, and it was working again. Then I suspended it for the rest of the trip. Upon getting home, it no longer worked and I haven't been able to get so much as a wiggle of the mouse pointer since then.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Haha!
    I had the same issue.  Touchscreen worked fine out of the box but the trackpad/pointer was unresponsive.
    Did you try using:
    https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/xf86 … rackpoint/
    On another note, I had a good experience with their hardware support. Cracked my touchscreen and jumped through the same hoops.  Great turnaround time (<1week).
    Alright, I've got my laptop fixed. Lenovo informs me that they replaced the motherboard. After putting my SSD back in, the touchpad works now! So it looks like it was definitely a hardware issue for me.
    And yeah, lenovo support was incredible. They were very nice on the phone, didn't mind that I kept my hard drive, and they gave me 1-day shipping all over the place. I talked to them on the phone on the 28th @ 17:00 GMT-6, received my box on the 29th and sent it right back out with the laptop in it. They received it the 30th, fixed it the 30th, and it would've been back to me the 31st if that weren't a Saturday. So, I received it today.
    Oddly, though, they accidentally sent me an (extra) repair box to my apartment- which I'm not at right now. /me shrugs.

  • [Solved] Suspend to RAM no longer works

    Suspend to RAM when closing my laptop lid worked out the box for me since I put Arch on my Dell XPS 14. After doing a pacman -Su yesterday (where I noticed that the kernel was updated, but it might be something else) it no longer works. Running 'systemctl suspend' in the terminal does work. Do I have to update a config?

    For anyone else that finds this, systemd 212 doesn't suspend with lid closed with or without external monitor for those using the Nvidia proprietary drivers. Nvidia doesn't provide the necessary information for systemd to know whether or not an external monitor is connected, and thus it plays it safe and doesn't suspend. This is explained nicely at the Freedesktop bug linked above, but I wanted to pass it along here for those that won't follow the link.
    Sounds like they're leaning toward reversing the preference (dock/external display users will need to opt out of suspending with lid close) in future versions since non-dock/monitor users >> dock/monitor users.

  • Rt61 Wireless no longer works in 2.6.34

    This is related to https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=99117
    I'm having the same problem, but what fixed the OP's problem didn't fix mine. To summarize, the base arch setup has wifi working just fine in the 2.6.33 kernel that came with the latest core iso. Once I did a pacman -Syu and updated to 2.6.34, wireless is no longer working. It can scan for SSIDs, but it cannot connect. It times out. I'm using netcfg with basic authentication. Tailing everything.log, I see this:
    kernel: wlan0: direct probe to <my ap> (try 1)
    kernel: wlan0: direct probe to <my ap> (try 2)
    kernel: wlan0: direct probe to <my ap> (try 3)
    kernel: wlan0: direct probe to <my ap> timed out
    I installed linux-firmware, and the system is finding /lib/firmware/rt2561s.bin just fine. Are there any known issues with the rt2561s/rt61 wireless cards and the 2.6.34 kernel? Are there other things I can try?
    Thanks,
    Joe

    Thank you for everyone's assistance
    I actually figured out what the problem was, like most issues it comes back to operator error, it seem I had inadvertently chose a "rename file on import" template that I had set up to name the files based on a custom fill-in field in the Meta Data, I normally only used that template when I was exporting images that had been completely edited, so being these images were new imports that field was blank, hence it would import the first image and then do to " don't import subjected duplicates" being checked it would just stop the import process.

  • Keyboard and Mouse no longer work after update

    Earlier today I ran pacman -Syu for the first time since the 18th, and initially everything seemed to be working properly.  However, upon my next boot, both my mouse and keyboard (both USB) no longer worked, leaving me stuck at the login screen unable to move the cursor or switch to a different terminal.  Unplugging and reconnecting my keyboard and mouse did nothing.
    A related topic (which could be solved by reconnecting the devices) suggested that booting with runlevel 1 might help, and this allowed me to use the terminal, but any attempt to start X resulted in getting stuck at login in the same way.
    Disabling and re-enabling hotplugging via xorg.conf had no impact (there was a note in Xorg.0.log indicating that since hotplugging was enabled, mouse and keyboard drivers were being disabled.  Apparently it's a fairly standard warning).
    The only package that was updated that seemed to be input related was xf86-xinput, but downgrading to the previous version did not fix the problem.
    Does anyone have any ideas as to what might have caused this issue?
    Thanks for any help you can provide.

    Adding to the above: I also tried plugging in an Microsoft USB keyboard at the point when Windows freezes at the Windows log-in screen. The keyboard is not recognized and the only way I can leave this screen is to power-off the computer.

    After upgrading the new operating system on my Droid Razr M it seems some useful features no longer work such as when typing a message the text anticipates the next word and when trying to delete individual messages from a contact, you can no longer tap and hold to select multiple message you have to delete them individually or the entire thread. Is there a way to get these back?

    Well, that's kind of embarrassing. And I honestly thought I paid attention to that... It works perfectly now, thank you so much!
    As expected, cdm-git also works fine since DMs only work in the root mode as of now.
    Just for the record, both type commands output "/usr/bin/startx" and pacman -Q gives "systemd 215-4".

  • PCS no longer working with contacts and 6086

    I have applied the latest release of PC Suite 6.84.10.3.
    Previously the installed level was 6.83.14.1
    The send/read/write message still doesn't work but hangs the Windows Explorer for a while (this hang didn't occur previously)
    But now, the contact facility no longer works. It is no longer possible to edit a contact, to store it locally or to send it to the phone even a message says everything is OK
    (translate it from french: The contact has been well recorded into the phone)
    Folder browsing still works correctly, either the phone folder or the memory card folder
    Need a fix or a way to install the previous version, at least for the contacts...
    This is a really negative feedback!
    Phil

    I guess what I learned is that sometimes the best solution is to do nothing and wait for the problem to solve itself! Funny, this has never worked for me before.
    WOT is now working for me but often for only the first few rows of images. That's cool that it is also working with bing images.
    Boudica, thanks for understanding. I am new contributor/ question-asker here on mozilla and may not understand how things are done. I was just frustrated, getting an email saying that my question was answered, logging in to find that it wasn't.
    Now we have the functionality that we wanted, right?
