Pacnew files appears in filesytem after upgrade. What do YOU do ?

Having great fun with ArchLinux for the last two weeks now, and really enjoy this distro !!
Did a system upgrade yesterday and everything went fine.
But when I'm in console Emacs suddenly behaves strangely when typing danish characters :-/
I looked in /etc for consulting the locale files and discovered some new files with a .pacnew extension.
I did a
grep pacnew /var/log/pacman.log
and gets this

The question is now:
What should I do with this ?? I guess that the /etc/locale.gen.pacnew is to blame for emacs character problems ??
What do YOU do ??

No you are not confused, but they are exceptions. Like some times last year, because of a bug concerning files in NoUpgrade, we had to reset all md5sums of these files.
And same when a file is relocated, like recently /etc/profile which moved from bash to filesystem.
But you are right, in the general case, it does not happen, so I vimdiff all .pacnew files I get
I also find the very simple pacdiff useful when there are several of them.

If export record count more than 200 it is working fine in all the systems and if change the profile option "Export MIME type” value to ‘text/tab-separated-values’ from application/excel also it is wokring.

Some mp3 files do not play after upgrading to iTunes 8.0

have upgraded and some songs which used to play on iTunes 7 no longer play. album art is missing. when trying to play on of these songs, nothing appears in the playbar at the top of the window.
it seems the same problem exists in the mac os environment.

The solution I discovered to fix this problem was to create a smart playlist with all song of a kind containing MPEG. Then I went through album by album, and coverted ID3 tags using the value of NONE. This then enabled me to play the songs in iTunes 8.0 and in many cases restored the Album Art.

I can't open a .psd file in Illustrator CS4 after upgrading to Yosemite.

Can you open any file, i.e. jpeg, etc.? Have you installed the Apple legacy Java: Java for OS X 2014-001? I'm guessing you have because you wouldn't be able to open PS at all without it. But have to ask.

My Macbook is running on OS 10.5.8. However, I forgot my admin password. I would like to find out if I can use OS 10.6 CD to reset the admin password while upgrading OS? Also, will all my files be still present after upgrade??

1. Should be possible to do that; go to the Utilities menu and select 'reset password' before starting the installer. (while booted from the DVD of course)
2. Standard installation of SL only replaces system components; applications, user data and preference settings should not be affected.
3. But you do have a backup just in case, don't you?

Iphone file browser stopped working after upgraded to IOS 5

Hi,
I have an iphone 3gs which I have recently upgraded to IOS 5. But to my horror after I have done that I can no longer browser my iphone's internal storage. Iphone connected to PC via USB, the file explorer no longer available. It can still sync with itune fine but there is noway I can access the storage locater in the phone via file explorer like I used to. Mind you I still have 3GB of space there.
Is that a bug? Or I stuffed up the upgrade some where?
Anyone else had this experience?

I know whats wrong now...
My phone had been emptied after I last restored it, after I took a picture and insert the phone back to the PC. The file browser shows up again...
That means if there is nothing in the phone, the file browser wouldn't be too bother to even show up. Weird one...

Odd log files appearing in Bridge after editing in CS5

During the past week, I've noticed that on two occasions three text files have appeared in the folder that I'm loading/saving files from whilst working in Photoshop. In both cases I've just deleted the files, but it's left me wondering what might have caused them to be generated in the first place.
The files seem to be (network?) log files: I get RECV.txt, SENT.txt, and TEST.txt. I'm pretty sure that the first time they appeared, I was working in ACR, and after closing some files having carried out a few edits I spotted the files alongside the raw (DNG) files I'd been working on. The same three files appeared again tonight, this time whilst working on a couple of PSDs (although I did briefly go into ACR also).
I wonder if perhaps they're being generated by CS5 trying to "call home" as part of the authentification system Adobe have in place? This is something of a shot in the dark though!
I have all the latest updates installed for Photoshop and am running Windows 7 64-bit. The system is fully patched and well maintained; so far as I can tell nothing malicious is present. I've been happily using Photoshop for at least a couple of years now and don't recall having ever seen this before. Although I deleted the text files, I've not emptied out my recycle bin, so I guess I could copy & paste their contents if anyone feels this would be worthwhile.
Has anyone else encountered this oddity before?

I've checked through the .txt files and I believe that I've identifed the source of these logs: I recently purchased the PhotoKit Sharpener 2 plug-in, and this uses an activation system to authenticate that the user licence is genuine and complying with the licence terms (same as PS - you can have it on two seperate machines if it's not being used on both at the same time, which is fair enough I think). The .txt files clearly seem to indicate that they have been generated as a result of this procedure. However, that fact that logs are being created leads me to conclude that perhaps the activation system has failed for some reason... I've checked on the PhotoKit support page and it does have a message about a known issue where some activations fail - they're apparently currently looking into this (it seems to be quite a rare problem, just my luck if I am affected!). In fact it seems to imply that the product could even go back to demo mode, which I rather hope won't happen to me having spent around £80 on this plug-in, which I'm finding to be excellent so far.
I've just sent a message to PK support, and hope that they'll get back to me soon. I can update this thread if you'd like to know what they have to say on the matter?
Perhaps Geoff Schewe will also respond (as a key member of the PK team), but I don't think he frequents this particular forum on a regular basis.

FCE file won't open after upgrading to Leopard

After upgrading a Dual 1.8 GHz PowerPC G5 from OS 10.4.x Tiger to OS 10.5.8 Leopard, a Final Cut Express file on an external HD will no longer open. The error message is “File Error: Access Denied.”
Other files on the external drive using other applications launch with no problem.
The FCE file opens OK on another Mac running OS 10.6.
Any suggestions?

Different OSes handle it differently, besides the normally hidden UIDs.
I wonder if ACLs got enabled on those other drives?

PDF files won't open after upgrade from 9 to 10 or 11

After upgrading from Reader 9 to Reader 10, I lost the ability to open PDF files on my Win 7 laptop. Even the icons became blank white blocks. I reinstalled Reader 9 and it all worked as usual. In trying Reader 11, it happened again. Any thoughts?

After installing Reader 10 or 11, the icons for PDFs on my desktop changed from the typical PDF icon to a blank white icon like when the extension of a file has been changed or omitted. Double clicking the icon no longer opens the PDF file. Yes, Reader opens but I no longer was able to open any preexisting PDF files using the new version of Reader. I did try changing away from protected mode to no avail.
I do not have a screen shot as I have downgraded to Reader 9. I have scanned thoroughly for malware and viruses and none have been found.

I'm running 10.7.4 OS.
After upgrading to 3.3 I'm unable to filter my photos using the "Raw + Jpeg" argument. There are Raw files and Jpeg files and they filter okay. The combo doesn't work any longer. How do I get this to work?

Cant play Quicktime files in IE7/Firefox After upgrading to Quicktime 7.5.5

After upgrading to 7.5.5 I cannot view quicktime files on the apple site using internet explorer 7 or firefox 3.01.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled/rebooted etc but no change.

Anyone with answers please reply because I am suffering from the same problems after reformatting and reloading OEM software and upgrading to current. I thought she had gotten infected from chain emails because of repeated blue screen shutdowns only to find that Quicktime 7 is causing the conflicts.

Can't write/save files to Lion server after upgrading to Yosemite

So I updated my "home" computer to Yosemite, I always test new OS on this computer for issues first as to not affect the all important "work" computer. Only issue I can find is I can't save/write files to my mac server running 10.7.5 (lion). It seems I have dissappeared from permissions. I can't add me back in because my mac on 10.10 states I don't have permission to do that (mind you I am admin on everything). I go to my work computer that is still on Mavericks and everything is fine, I can write to the server with no issues.
Any ideas on where I should look to fix a setting that seems to have gone awry? It was late last night and I was getting tired of figuring out what to fix.
I do see "me" for that "home" computer on the server....just not showing on the "home" computer itself.

By looking at your post i have several questions to ask :
Where are the temporary files stored ?
Which data sharing scheme are you using for them ? AFP with POSIX or ACL behaviors, something Indesign uses ?
Which versions of indesign are you using ? Some differences exists in between PPC installs and Universal install and may play havoc with that.
There might as well be the question of ownership and rights that may differ as mentionned above in between your G5 workgroup and the MacPro.

Which old files do I keep after upgrading?

I upgraded from Photoshop CS5 to CS6, and from Lightroom 3 to 5. Do I have to keep any of the files from the previous version?

And if you uninstall, I believe that plugin folders etc will not be removed, but as Surt says, always best to leave the old version installed at least for a while. It might be that certain plugins, or twain drivers etc will not work on later versions, or will be problematic.

Lost my files in my library after upgrading to iTunes 7.0.1

I had purchased few songs this past year and tonight after upgrading my older version they disappeared from My Library. I checked in my account and the information with the songs and the date of purchase is there, but there is no information as to re-downloaded again. Can anyone help me recover my music?

Apple's policy is clear: iTS purchases can be downloaded only once.
Have a look at this article in the Apple Knowledge Base for some ideas on how to find your missing music.
