Pages '09: Can't Embed Link to Map in PDF

I'm really stumped. Links to web pages that I embed in my Pages publishing docs operate as expected when I export the document to PDF. However, I'm having no success with links to Google, Mapquest or Yahoo maps. The links are live in Pages, but are dead once I export to PDF. The link text shows up blue and underlined in the PDF, but it's just static text. This is the case whether I open the PDF in Adobe Reader or Preview in MacOS, or in Adobe Acrobat Pro X in Windows XP. This is also happening on two different Macs. Again, the problem is only with links to map locations. Any ideas?

I just repeated the steps that I had shared with you and achieved the same desired result: a PDF with a working map link. Here are the steps I just applied in outline form:
In Pages '09 4.2, create the standalone text or text box content, that is to receive the hyperlink. If textbox, click outside the textbox to set the box in Pages. If you don't do this, applying a hyperlink to the enclosed text, and saving as a PDF will result in that text not appearing in your PDF.
In your web browser (I used Safari 6.0.2), visit the map site of your choice; key in the location in the search window, and then double-click at least twice on the map to generate data in the map URL.
Choose the link/embed button on the map page. Ensure the URL or tiny URL is selected. Copy it to the clipboard with either Edit > Copy, or Command+C. Perform no other clipboard activity until all steps are complete.
In Pages, double-click the word you want to apply the hyperlink too. If it is multiple words, double-click the first word, hold the shift key down, hover the i-beam mouse pointer over the end of the last word, and click once. Your hyperlink target is now selected. Do not click within the Pages document.
Again, in Pages, Insert > Hyperlink > Webpage.
Enable hyperlink is selected.
Triple-click the default Apple link to select it.
Paste the map hyperlink from the clipboard using Edit > Paste, or Command+V.
Press return to set the hyperlink to your selected text.
Save your Pages document and Export the PDF.
I have walked through this list and was able to recreate one, or multiple map links in the same document, that survived into the PDF file. Both Preview and Adobe Reader XI received active map links that worked.
Hopefully, you will have better success with these steps and avert the Acrobat Pro route.

  • Can I embed links to products for sale in iBook?

When I publish an iBook, can I embed links to related products for sale on my website?

If it's just an odd picture you are doing you can use File - File Info
You can also create a template in Bridge, this could also be applied via File-File Info in Photoshop, manually or you could create an action to do it.

  • How can I make links clickable on all PDF viewers/readers?

I have an InDesign document that's been built to be 'interactive' when printed as a PDF: along the top of each page are links that allow you to skip ahead in the document to specific pages. The links are created using boxes over the relevant text that are set up in an alternate layer of the Indesign document. The links just take the reader to a specific page of the PDF - not to an element on a page. There are minimal images - one on the cover and a logo on every page. It's mainly text.
The links open in the PDF when viewed in Acrobat, and also on on Mac Book (it looks great!), but they don't open on iPads or other devices (and it looks like a complete dud when viewed this way). Are there some settings I can change/use to make my document 'clickable' from all readers?
I'm very far ahead with this project and need to publish it urgently. I wasn't aware of this issue previously. Any suggestions/solutions gratefully received. Just to clarify - the links are mostly internal. I just need people to be able to jump around within the document.

You cant transfer interactivity to a PDF when you print to PDF as you have written.
PDFs have to be exported so that interactivity will live inside the PDF. Of course you have to set up links in the Hyperlink Panels.
But not every reader is supporting interactivity. URL are supported from Reader and Apple iBooks. But you can't force the user to use a certain application anyway.

  • How can I embed XML data in a PDF?

I want to embed XML data in a PDF so the file can be scanned for the data behind the document. Is there a standard way to do this?
For example, if the PDF is a bank statement, the embedded XML would be the individual's account number and bank balances. It would not include any of the standard text in the statement such as the bank name, etc.
I've read up on the XMP spec but that seems to be more metadata about the document (title, subject, etc.). And there is tagged content but that is an alternate view of the entire document.
    ??? - thanks - dave

Although the XMP block is stored in XML, you can't just embed any XML file. The block has to follow the standard, which means that each data packet needs to be defined in a schema - as the name suggests, XMP is eXtendable so you can define new schema for local use, but you can't mess about with the standard ones and randomly add new tags. The schema itself isn't embedded in the file, it's referenced by a unique ID and URI. of course having a data packet in a custom schema doesn't mean any software will see it - Acrobat's Advanced Search can be told to scan the XMP block but  search engines only tend to bother with the basic tags such as 'title' and 'description'.
To see what's currently in a PDF, open Document Properties > Description > Additional Metadata > Advanced.
You can save the current XMP block as a text file (.xmp extension), and replace/append other XMP files. If you click the "i" icon on the top right of the Advanced dialog you can access system profiles - these can be created in other applications such as Bridge, but there's no profile manager in Acrobat itself.
For technical information on working with XMP and creating new schema, see http://www.adobe.com/devnet/xmp.html
Note that the XMP SDK for CS6 does not work in the Acrobat Family.

  • Pages '13 not all web links not working in PDF

    Hi
I am having a issue with a document created in Pages 2013.
The document I have created is four pages long and on 1st page I have a hyperlink (text) to a You Tube page.
On page 3 of the document I have another piece of text with a hyperlink to the same You Tube page which works fine inside Pages but when I export to a PDF the link does not work/translate as a URL link. Just a piece of undelined text.
I have tried deleting the text and retyping it then turning into a hyperlink but does not work.
Anyone else come across this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for that.
Problem is when I export to Pages 09 the formating is thrown all over the place. So it takes just as long to reformat the document as it orginally took to create.
Was just hoping someone may have come a work around.
    Thanks again.

  • Can you embed a quiz in a PDF?

    Hi,
I am new to Captivate and am teaching myself Captivate 5 using Lynda.com. I have just cerated a quaiz and exported to PDF. Is it possible to embed such a quiz in an existing PDF instead of the whole quiz being a PDF? I.e. Working through an interactive PDF, you get to a certain point and then there is the quiz.

Either Acrobat X or Acrobat 9 Pro extended would be OK to use.
All you basically need is the ability to add PDF documents or pages to existing PDF documents.

  • Can I embed C# Email code in .pdf file to send user and system information when it opens on system

I have a pdf on my system. When I opened it it should email the current  user account and system information( like IP, Windows login Id).  If the system does not have internet it should not show the error.
Is it possible? If so could you suggest a way or provide a link.
Due to security we want this feature.
    Your help is appreciated.
    Thanks

You could track the user's email login/IP address if you secure the file using DRM (LiveCycle, etc.), but a PDF which sends silent emails containing personal data about a user would be considered a trojan by the vast majority of people.

  • Embed audio and movie into pdf

Since acrobat pro 9 is not available for mac I don't understand why Apple can't embed audio and movie into pdf. This is a really needed feature. Oh and also creating spreads in pages09 is needed as well. I want to use pages to create ebooks with audio and movie data etc come on Apple get it sorted .. You have an amazing program here and could clout Adobe on the head if you implemented these features.

  • How to Make Link Open an Attached PDF?

I see in "Link Properties" and "Actions" that there is an option to "Open a file"; but when I select this, and click "Add"--I am not given the opportunity to link to the other PDF file that is already attached to the PDF file that I'm working on.
I know this can be done, just don't see how right now.
    Thanks.

Have the Attachments pane open so that you can see the attached PDF(s).
Using Acrobat's Link tool lay down the link annotation (the 'box' you create) over the text string of interest.
In the Create Link dialog use "Go to a page view".
    Click "Next".
The "Create Go to View" dialog presents itself.
Leave it for the time being.
Go to the open Attachments pane. Select the desired PDF. Right click and select "Open Attachment".
Back to the "Create Go to View". Now, click "Set Link".
The "Create Go to View" dialog removes itself.
You're now observing the PDF that has the attached PDF(s).
Note that the PDF to which you linked is also still open.
This will be the case for each attached PDF you link to.
So, as part of the clean up ---
Do a Save As to the PDF having the attached PDFs.
    Close the other PDFs.
    Good to know.
The default for the link(s) will open the target, attached PDF while closing the "source" PDF that contains the attached PDF(s).
You can edit each link in the "source" PDF to configure "Open in" --
--| Window set by user preference
    --| New window
    --| Existing window
Open a link's properties. Select the Actions tab. Click the Edit button that is under the Actions 'window'.
    Be well...

  • How can I draw on a map in Pages?

I am trying to draw a map of the Old Testament in Pages. Frankly, it is very frustrating. I first of all drew an outline map and scanned it into Pages. Can you not use Pages to draw? Is there a "draw" template somewhere? Is there another piece of software I need to accomplish what I am trying to do? Hope someone can help me out. Thanks.

You can draw in Pages but considering Apple has done this before in other applications, it is a pretty rubbish experience.
The Shapes menu on the Toolbar has a wide variety of shapes, all of which are editable. At the bottom of the menu is a pen tool with which you can draw bezier curves. It can do quite a lot but is frustratingly clumsy and annoying. I take pride in making it do anything, but what a waste of time, compared with using a real drawing program.
I'd save a lot tooth enamel and just go to a real third party drawing application and save the work as a pdf to bring into Pages. If you have it, use Adobe Illustrator.
If you don't want to spend that kind of money there are plenty of cheaper alternatives. The best of the crop IMHO is Sketch, available in the App Store, which whilst it doesn't have everything plus the kitchen sink like Illustrator, it has one of the most innovative user interfaces around.
If you still want to use Pages' Drawing Tool I'd keep the map very diagrammatic and minimalist.

it says "the previous page is sending you to: LINK

Yeah, this seems to be something to do with Google, not your iPhone. A search on that error found this page:
    http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Web%20Search/thread?tid=56a3c4b71b3dc1d9&h l=en
which shows people using lots of browsers on different platforms suffering from it. No definitive solutions though.

How can I embed an DOCTYPE HTML Form from Adobe Forms central into a responsive html5 page?
    -Luis

    Hi,
You can embed the form on your website, but you need to make sure that javascript has been enabled in the browser. You need to copy the embed code and add it into your HTML code. If you would like FormsCentral to generate embeded HTML form without using javascript, you may post a feature request and vote it. Hope it helps! Thanks!

  • Build a blank/other type of page which can show links to other pages

Can someone please tell me how to build a blank/other type of page which can show links to other pages? I mainly want a page to show 3 links, once someone clicks on it, then it will go to a specified page. I tried using URL, but that did not work. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you very much for your help in advance.
    -Grace

Do a region (probably a HTML-based one is fine), enter in the HTML for your links, and that should be it. What didn't work about this?
Your links probably should appear like this in your coding (use substitution variables):
    f?p=&APP_ID.:3:&APP_SESSION.
In the above example, "&APP_ID." will resolve dynamically to the application ID that you are in, "3" is page 3 (change this to whatever page you want the link to be), and "&APP_SESSION." is the existing session number (if you don't include this, the user will receive a new session ID if the destination page is public or will be intercepted annoyingly to log in and get a new session ID which you probably don't want).
Do not include the full http path. Just start with f?p... and everything is assumed to be relative to Apex on the current environment.
Those are effectively the minimum requirements for a URL in Apex to go from one page to another in an app. You can add to that the additional URL parameters for Request value, Set items with values, clear cache, reset pagination, etc. if you need to. Check the Apex online help under "understanding URL syntax" for details on these.
