PAL 1080p - 30i/s (France)

Bonjur,
Merci
Hello,
I currently have a camera sports Drift ghost HD and I do my editing with Premiere Elements 11.
I still shoots in 1080p and 30i/s.
I'm trying desperately in the manuel settings of a new project, to find how to choose "AVCHD - PAL - 1080p - 30i/s".
in the PAL, it only offers 1080p-50i/s and 1080i-25i/s.......
Do you have a tip to set up my new project 1080p-30i/s and if possible in audio 5.1?
Thank you

Do not let "AVCHD" and "DSLR" heades get in the way of your project preset decisions.
If you are recording 1080p30 (1920 x 1080 @ 30 progressive frames per second), then you want to set manually the project preset
NTSC
DSLR
1080p
DSLR 1080p30
Before you exit the new project dialog, be sure to have a check mark next to "Force Selected Project Setting on This Project". Then go back to the Premiere Elements Expert workspace to import your media into the project.
Premiere Elements 11 takes over the role of setting up the project preset based on the properties of the first video drag to the Timeline. Sometimes it does it OK, sometimes not. When not, then do the manual setting of the project preset as decribed over.
http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/04/pe11-accuracy-of-automatic-project.html
There is no DSLR 1080p30 5.1 channel project preset, but you can create one for yourself.
http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2013/07/pe11-exporting-1080p25-or-1080p30-file.html
There is only one project preset per project. So if you have source media with mixed properties than priorities need to be established in my project preset choice. Also, the export settings can be different from the project preset (subject to further discussion).
Please review and do not hesitate to ask if you need clarification on anything written.
Thank you.

  • PAL or NTSC for France?

I have a project I need to burn for use in France. Should this be a PAL or NTSC disc?

Though ex-U.S. the players are more often able to play NTSC and PAL discs (as oppossed to U.S.) making a PAL disc would probably be the better option. If it is a one off burn you can ask the person if they can play NTSC of course....

  • DVD burn for a French Mother-in-Law: NTSC or PAL?

    Hi All,
I've just finished a DVD slideshow of my recent wedding to send to my Mother-in-Law in france. Should I burn it using NTSC or PAL format?
I remember there's a problem of watching videos taped in France in the UK...
    Many Thanks

sorry Sue to correct you (you're reading the wrong books <<THAT was a joke! only Sue understands....)...
    don't mix two things:
    video standards and region codes....
Europe is rc2 and PAL (...well, France is SECAM... but for DVD it is... PAL)
so, iDVD creates rc0 (=playable everywhere), BUT you shouldn't use it for video-conversion... luckyly, our European DVDstandalones accept NTSC DVDs and most Tellys are able to show the content..... (not vice versa with US/NTSC land)
Spud, you haven't told us what video standard you did the recording...? (huuu, this is an international board.... , world's a little larger then... letssay Illinois... )
if NTSC- stay NTSC and wait for mother's commends...
if you need a video-standard conversion, use JES Deinterlacer for converting movie (export from iM as dv stream/let SC convert/import new file into iDVD)

Am I being dumb, or do I need to load them from somehwere I have no AVCHD preset in the sequence or general tab when I create a new project

Yes I read this, thought it pertained to export only (which doesn't faze me).
If it impacts playback of AVCHD files using h.264 codec, I'm all ears - and it would be ironic, because since using the trial I've actually been thinking about other editing platforms!! (Whereas before it was a forgon conclusion that I'd upgrade to the master collection).

  • Captured video-material appears far too dark

    hi there!
I have a great problem (being under time-pressure with a project): video-material, taken with a canon HV30, that looks all right on the camera-screen, appears FAR TOO DARK (not usable), after beeing captured. the problem does not seem to be a premiere-problem (I have CS3), since windows movie maker produces the same fault. it is neither a pc-screen-calibration or -regulation-problem, since the same material played onto the same screen by another pc, that displays everthing else perfectly, is also too dark. the answer must be between the cam-corder and the capturing software? does someone have a clue? (the problem seems to be not only mine if you check via google... and the solution seems not to be at hand...)
I'm working with DV-widescreen(16:9)-PAL-material converting it with 16-bit sound and 48 kHz.
following my relevant systems-data... (everything is updated with the most recent drivers...)
thanks very much indeed in advance!

    thanks,
    dear craig,
    for your thoughts and tips!
I will do that just for curiosity. but then I would have to know how the waveform-scopes should ideally look like? where can I find model-scopes? (and, what's more, the camera "gave up its spirit", as we say in german: can't be switched on any more - brand new... so I'll have to get it fixed...)
but: it seems to me, that your path-finding leads in the wrong direction... see: the camera records pictures digitally on a tape. from the tape it is able to read the data again out onto a screen - and fine! now: you should be able to reproduce that outside the camera - and not blame it somehow...
others seem to have the same problem with different cameras and different systems-cominations (operating system, graphic cards...). so it can't be just my camera. the problem is not so easy...
the guy here - http://forum.videohelp.com/topic281706.html - seems to aim in the right direction (imho): he touches the point of the colour-spaces used! he says inside the camcorder IRE 0.0 / 16-235 color space is used. right? well: outside the cam on a computer-screen RGB or sRGB is used, right? so some transformation has to happen - or may be, it is not done - with the bad result, we have...
now the chap there speaks about the possibly wrong codecs. a codec however has to do with compression/decompression. but - they say - the capturing via firewire is just the unaltered transmission of data, and .avi (the resulting format) is compression-free! so the problem is not a codec-problem. but how's the software called that changes the color-spaces or should change them???
what astonished me very much is to see that, when I change the screen-settings for color/luminance with my nvidia-graphics-card, then everything on the screen changes exept! the to video-images in the two screens (source, program) in premiere... so premiere seems to use its own screen-controle here!
and why actually can't I choose somewhere which the output-conditions for and after the capturing shall be, e.g. the clip-format (.avi, .mov etc.) and - may be! - the color-space! I can just say "DV 25i PAL max. bit-depth" and, under device(=cam)-controle, brand and type of device (and again PAL). now I can choose "canon" but not "HV30" (not contained in the list) - just "standard" instead. but that raises the question: what colour-space are the various cameras using and sending??
now if I check the supported camera-brands and -types online on the adobe-website (http://www.adobe.com/products/premiere/dvhdwrdb.html) I can't find canon's HV30 (just the semi-pro-models, for which "conditional support" is promised... but problems seem to lay elsewhere).
on the website, where you can check the compatibility of your cam with premiere, adobe boasts its "Preconfigured solutions
Certified Adobe OpenHD configurations (that) help ensure compatibility between hardware and software components." if you click on the linked text some general boasting and buy exhortations about the "creative suite" come up - no precise information...
should this well known and ill suffered compatibility problem not be handled more clearly and competently?
please help me finding the solution, which is: to interprete the recorded data on the tape, that get transferred via capturing, like the camera does!
    thanks a lot indeed!

ps: it is interesting to check http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_space, where it says: "YIQ was formerly used in NTSC (North America, Japan and elsewhere) television broadcasts for historical reasons. This system stores a luminance value with two chrominance values, corresponding approximately to the amounts of blue and red in the color. It is similar to the YUV scheme used in most video capture systems[2] and in PAL (Australia, Europe, except France, which uses SECAM) television, except that the YIQ color space is rotated 33° with respect to the YUV color space. ...
" you see: two different color spaces in TV and CAPTURE SYSTEMS! is premiere not a capture system?? and what do the graphics-devices underway between the camera and premiere??

  • IMac HDMI 'Mirroring' problems with LG 'Full HD' TV

I have my 20” aluminium iMac connected via a mini-DVI/HDMI adapter to my LG 32LF7700 full HD LCD TV. In mirroring mode it’s pretty good, but I have two problems.
    1. Even when I turn ‘Mirroring’ off from my Mac’s displays ‘Menu’ options I still have the ‘Snow Leopard’ desktop background on my TV, and my iMac’s mouse will not stay within the iMac screen area. The mouse can still move off the iMac screen into the TV area. Is there any way, apart from unplugging the TV HDMI cable, to revert fully to the iMac screen when I turn ‘Mirroring’ off?
    2. When playing movies in 16x9 ‘full screen’ on the iMac the image is not quite full screen on my TV. I had a ‘HD ready’ TV before the LG one and it was possible to fill the screen. Am I missing something in the settings that would make 16’x9 full screen’ on the iMac give me ‘full screen’ on my TV. My TV is PAL, 1080p (or 1080i), and is properly detected by the iMac.
    Thanks.

    Perhaps you misunderstand the two display process with a Mac. There are only two modes;
Mirroring is when both screens display the same thing, so your HDTV is just perhaps providing a larger version of the iMac display for using from across the room. The other is Extended Desktop mode, which creates a wide Mac Desktop that extends from one display to the other, based on which order that you have arranged the two display icons in Sys Prefs/Displays. This is why your mouse will travel from one display to the other as it travels across this wide Desktop.
In addition to the order that you have arranged these Desktops, you can choose which one is primary by dragging the Menubar from one icon to the other in Sys Prefs/Displays.
As far as watching videos, I d not have two monitors upon which to test this, but I believe that you can adjust the two displays screen resolutions separately in Sys Prefs/Displays.
If you go to the Help menu in the Finder choose Mac Help. After it opens click the index in the upper right and go to D/Displays. You will find some explanations about using multiple displays with your iMac, including Extended and Mirrored modes.

  • Playback so jerky on Premier Elements 11 I can't edit. Urgent help required.

My clips are from a Panasonic HC V700 camera filmed at 1080p 50fps
Project settings are PAL 1080p 50fps
There is no orange line above the timeline - only a small green section where I added a transition and rendered - so I assume the project setting match the properties of the clips.
    My laptop details are:
    Acer Aspire 5742Z
    Intel (R) Pentium (R) CPU P6200 @ 2.13GHz
    Installed memory RAM 4GB
System Type 64 Bit Operating System
    I'm using Windows 7
I save projects and files onto an external hard drive - a Hitachi Touro Mobile 3.0 1TB
I've defragged my laptop hard drive but that hasn't helped. I've updated the audio, video, graphics drivers but that hasn't made a difference either.  Is it likely to be the lack of RAM?
I have to have this video (approx 5 mins but with complex green screen stuff in it so a few layers of video going on) edited and uploaded to Vimeo by midnight on Sat 31st May. I've never had this issue before with the same camera and same settings etc. There's been some jerkiness but not so bad I can't see to edit properly.
    Any help gratefully accepted.
ETA - I saved the minute long section I've done as a quicktime movie and it played back fine on the laptop.

    Some thoughts...
If you video source for the project is 1080p50 (1920 x 1080 @ 50 progressive frames per second), then make sure that the project preset is set a
    PAL
    AVCHD
    AVCHD1080p50
If you are allowing the program to do an automatic project set, the check to determine what it is setting. See Edit Menu/Project Settings/General and the Editing Mode, Timebase, Frame Rate, and Pixel Aspect Ratio readings (even if the fields appear to be grayed out). For that project preset, the Project Settings there should read as follows
If you see Editing Mode = 1080i, then start a new project, set the project preset manually to the 1080p50 project preset, and then import your 1080p50 into the project. The how to for setting the project preset manually is described toward the bottom of the following
ATR Premiere Elements Troubleshooting: PE11: Accuracy of Automatic Project Preset (New Project Dialog) Setting
With your video formats, double check what you have. Could there be any confusion between 50p and 50i. Just in case note...when you see 50p, that represents 50 progressive frames per second. When you see 50i, that represents 50 fields per second which is the counterpart of 25 interlaced frames per second.
Please check out the above so that we can rule those factors in the matter that we seek to resolve.
    Thanks for the follow ups.

  • 1080p pour export quality for 25p material from Canon HF100 PAL

    Hi
I have now tested iMovie 11 with a Canon HF100 PAL version. Shooting in progressive.
The AIC import has good quality.
New 1080p export gives same pour quality as before when using QuickTime 7 for h.264 export.
    AIC export provides good quality.
So still nu easy way for export from iMovie. Is this common or is it a camera compatibility issue?
    Thanks
    Olof

I just posted this for another user with the same problem.
I have a Sony VG10 camcorder that shoots 30p and records it as 1080i60. iMovie sees this as interlaced video and deinterlaces it IF I use most FX.
So I did a bit of googling and found there is a simple solution. I bought Steve Mullens newest version (09 and 11) of his "Ins and Outs of iMovie." With it I got a free copy of his iMakeFullHD utility. So after importing AVCHD I run the utility on the folder of clips and in a few seconds all the clips are now marked as progressive. Which is actually what they are! iMovie now treats them as 1080p30 -- exactly as it should.
When reading about the utility I remember skipping the stuff on PAL HD camcorders. So I just reread it and it's no big deal eitherl.
If you shoot 1080i50, the video is marked as 1080p25. This is exactly the reverse of what my camera does. So while I need to use iMakeFullHD, PAL users do not.
If you shoot 1080p25, the video is marked as 1080i50. This is exactly like my camera. So you have to use iMakeFullHD to remark it is as progressive -- which is what it is.
Now Ive no idea why Sony or Canon did what they did, but they did. After buying a $2000 camcorder, buying the book was by far the simpler solution.
I know he has a section on 1080p50 and 1080p60 from the tms700. Didn't apply to me so i skimmed it. Also, having had imovie 09 i was surprised to read that 11 now supports real 1080p24. There's also a section on removing 2-3 pulldown from 1080i60 to get 1080p24. Again i just skimmed this in case sony were to release a firmware update so I could shoot 24fps.
One more thing I learned. Because my video really is progressive, I can use all FX. They'll always look perfect.
But, if you shoot 1080i50 -- which imovie sees as 1080p25 -- the good news is that imovie will never deinterlace the clips causing a loss of resolution. But, the clips realy are interlace. this means that sometimes you may see combing during the FX. There are very clear pix of what this looks like in the ebook. But, the solution is so simple -- only shoot 1080p25!
Most of us want to shoot progresssive anyway!
The nice thing is i followed the instrictions on burning 1080 avchd video to DVDs and they play in HD on my BD player. And, i didn't have to buy a BD burner.

  • Stalls when trying to export media to HD 1080p 25fps PAL

    Hi,
I'm trying to export the media to HD 1080p 25fps PAL but it stalls about 10% into the export. I am able to export the sequence to Youtube 1080p 25fps PAL though although I don't know if this is suitable for TV broadcast quality.
Does anyone know why it would be stalling when using the HD 1080p 25fps option in the drop down menu but not with the YouTube option? And will outputting using the Youtube option be suitable for TV broadcast standards?
    Thanks,
    Nelson

You should probably check with the station on what specs they require.  My guess is neither of those options will be suitable.

  • Readable DVD being sent to FRANCE - will my iMac's PAL script work???

I see in iDVD you can burn it using the PAL format, which I heard is readable in Europe.
I'm sending an iDVD-made DVD to France and wonder if I can skip an expensive transfer at a video production house (it'll cost $300 here to transfer one hour of video to the European format!!!) by selecting the "PAL" format instead of the standard NTSC that we use here.
The folks at Apple say it'll work. But sometimes I wonder if they REALLY know. Do you? Anyone had this experience??

    Hi Robert,
Keep in mind that you will incur a loss of quality when you go from NTSC to PAL or vice versa. PAL quality is slightly better all things being equal, but if your original footage is NTSC, then the conversion will more than cancel any quality benefit PAL may have. iDVD just encodes the video with a larger screen size and a lower frame rate.
If your audience will play the DVD on a computer, then all this NTSC/PAL business is no longer relevant. You need that only if you are going to show your DVD on a television set. Indeed, NTSC and PAL are television standards. Now just about all DVD players that are sold in Europe and are reasonably recent are able to read NTSC-encoded DVDs; the problem is the TV set. Many newer ones support NTSC, but in France, dual-standard does not mean that NTSC is supported. The French standard is SECAM, but since most of Europe uses PAL, many lower end TVs only support PAL and SECAM. A TV supporting NTSC as well is actually a triple-standard set, and while it's almost the norm with newer equipment of a certain level, you can't count on it.
Whereas most DVD players will happily read any DVD you throw at them, they are not typically able to convert their output. This simply means that your French DVD player will read an NTSC-encoded DVD and then send an NTSC video signal to its video output port. It's the user's responsibility to ensure that the connected television set understands that signal. As I said, there are units that can read an NTSC-encoded DVD and generate a PAL-encoded video signal (and vice versa), but those are very rare, very expensive, and clearly aimed at the professional market.
Finally, zoning is irrelevant because iDVD does not enforce a zone when burning a DVD.
Based on all this gobbledygook, I would recommend the following (assuming that your raw footage comes from an NTSC camera):
Ask the recipients of the DVD whether they are able to read NTSC-encoded DVDs (such DVDs may be purchased in France in places like the FNAC, for instance). If the answer is yes, don't sweat it and just send them the same type of NTSC DVD you would use.
If the answer is no, PAL encoding should work, albeit at a loss of quality because of the conversion process. The easy way out: make one of each DVDs and ask the recipients to test both.
    Bonne chance,
    Daniel

  • Can some explain 1080i and 1080p which is better for a pal project in HD

I am new with these type of codec, plus which one is better for a pal projects not NTSC. Also I want to know if there would be any problems when I take a project that is done in Pal and move it to NTSC would there be some frame problems.
    thanks

I like the p footage better because it looks more like film, plays better on the computer, and looks better in web streams... as far as going to NTSC in the end, Compressor's "advanced format conversions" or Graeme Nattress' Standards converter does a fine job of PAL to NTSC... Edit in the native format you've shot though, then in the end do the standards conversion. You needn't worry about anything special here...

  • Converting to PAL from 1080p

I'm about to start on a short, somewhat animated sequence in HD. The final output will be NTSC dvd, PAL dvd, and HD 1080 24p or 30p for download. I don't care what frame rate the original sequence is at whether it's 24p or 30p, I just want it to be in a frame rate that is easiest and best to convert to PAL. I will be using Compressor to do the conversion and compression.
What frame rate should I use for the original sequence?

    29.97 is your choice.
    Open Compressor,
reading through the menu of the settings tab (standard definition folder) you can see it by yourself.
I have a link for you for more details about setting a potentially good conversion:

  • 1080p files to PAL DVD, use extra resolution.

If I use 1080p files in imovie 11, and then export to DVD, can I use the extra resolution to zoom in ?

Yes, you can crop in slightly to reframe a shot on the HD camera.  However, getting really good quality DVDs from HD video takes some work.  This article I wrote for the LA Final Cut Pro Users group may help you.

  • Help required for post path from 442 1080p Prores to h264 for PAL blu-ray project

    Hi all
Iam deperately trying to output a blu-ray disc for film festivals for a feature we have made.
We need to have high res and 5.1 sound PAL.
I just need the settings for the H264.I have been on many different forums looking but no luck.
    This is where Im at.
DPX 24fps from Da Vinci Resolve to 1920x1080 Pro res 422.@24fps (resolve does not support 1920 H264).
Can some-one give me a definitive path for this?
It needs to convert to 25fps at some point as well.
I have my 5.1 sound worked out via compressor.
    Getting desperate
    Thank you
