Pan Tool

We  have 2 issues for years.
1. Panning - Why we can not pan canvas without tabing F button ? We want to pan canvas freely on default screen.
2. Color selection - Why we have to insert 3rd party applications for color selection? We want same color selection like Corel Painter did.
We concept artist, illustrators, painters are troubleing this 2 issues. See image below for tutorial.

I wholeheartedly agree with both these points. I got so used to working around these things for several versions now that by now they only annoy me subconsciously so to speak. I automatically zoom out or switch to fullscreen mode without thinking or really noticing whenever I begin to draw a path that is likely to touch the image edges. That problem should have been fixed many versions ago.
The reason for the introduction of the small Color panel in earlier Versions of Photoshop and other Adobe products was probably the small screen size back in the mid nineties where the regular modal color picker simply couldn't be open all the time. Now that that restriction is gone, there is no reason to continue to have two different color pickers in the application. For smaller screens like laptops, a simple "Contract/Expand" toggle like in Curves or a multiple-expansion-states panel like the Stroke panel in InDesign should work fine. A list of recent colors or a per-panel undo function could replace the functionality of the Cancel button in the modal picker that you would normally lose when making it a non-modal panel.
Note however that since CS5 there is a (admittedly a little clumsy) HUD color picker that can be invoked directly on the image that partly eliminates the necessity to go to the modal color picker every time. Also, I think since one or two releases back, you can now assign a keyboard shortcut to the modal color picker, so unless your screen is really big and you want to keep your color picker floating close to the area you are working on, that might be a possible workaround.

  • How to create a Panning Tool with Mini Browser in AS3

I would like to create a panning tool similar to the attached. I looking for something very simple, I would like to be able to scroll the large image from left to right using a smaller inset browser. If anyone know of any tutorials, please inform.
    Thanks for any response.

Search Google for something like "AS3 custom scrollbar"  You will essentially be creating a custom scrollar where the thumb of the scroller is the yellow-bounded rectangle and the smaller image it sits on is the scroller track.

  • My spacebar/hand panning tool has stopped working Ai CS5

I'm working on a university lab computer that has CS5 on it.  I don't think I pressed any random hand commands to disable the spacebar panning tool, but it has stopped working and it's getting really annoying.  Anyone else ever have similar problems and how did you fix it??

I have this problem across the suite -- in Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. Strangely, the problem turned out to be some kind of conflict with the Chrome browser. When I quite Chrome, the spacebar starts working properly again.
I've seen people saying that the same thing has happened with Firefox, so it might be a more general bug with the system accessing the web while Adobe apps are running. It seems to happen in particular when I am using Gmail or any site that uses a lot of AJAX (Twitter seems to trigger it as well) and is constantly refreshing in the background, but that may just be a coincidence.
    Hope this helps!

  • Stumped. Pan Tool Doesnt work from Audio File

What the heck? I'm teaching a course on Audio Editing, and discovered **WHILE TEACHING** that the pan tool doesn't work from within an Audio File. Not that it's a particularly practical place to use it, but it was just when I was showing the students what an envelope is, and they were extremely confused!
When editing a single audio file, if you click the "Master Envelope" button on the bottom left, it brings up VOLUME and PAN. Volume works normally, but pan doesnt work at all There has to be a good reason for this, though I can't think of one.

    Anybody?
    Thanks,

  • Select/transform tool changes to pan tool when working with text

I have had this problem since Motion 2, and version 3 is no different. Whenever I work with text in Motion, at some point while moving the text in the canvas, the select/transform tool will suddenly change into the Pan tool, and it won't let me do anything else but pan things. I have to close and reopen Motion to correct this. It happens VERY OFTEN, every time I work with text...it get's really annoying haveing to conatantly quit and reopen the program. I lose a lot of time doing that. Has anyone else had this problem? I also have a Powermac G5 that has the same problem so I know it's not the Mac Pro. Any suggestions?

    Sounds familiar.
I searched and saw a couple posts from Patrick that suggested,
"This seems to happen after adjusting text. Simply click on the canvas and press space. The project won't play and the hand will turn into your selected tool."

  • Setting camera target and using the pan tool moves everything except target

    Hi,
I have a JavaScript which sets the camera target using the code below.
    var setTarget = function(strNodeName) {
        for (var intCounter = 0; intCounter !== scene.nodes.count; intCounter++) {
            var node = scene.nodes.getByIndex(intCounter);
            if (node.name.indexOf(strNodeName) === 0) {
                var camera = scene.cameras.getByIndex(0);
                camera.target = node;
This works great for the rotate and spin tool. But hen I use the pan tool, everything moves except the node that was set as target.
Why is this happening and how can I prevent this?

James, thank you very much for the VI, now i understand what you meant by initialising the shift registers. You're right about my text-based programming background, and seeing how you've implemented the case selection really helped. The removal of the mathscript modules does reduce lag quite a lot, too, and now everytihng works exactly as it should. I set the initial servo positions and rawx/rawy values, extended the error line the way you suggested, and added a division by two after the array summation, in order to get an average, rather than a near-double result.
I agree with you and 22v10 that slicing the image up into quadrants might have been a better idea to begin with. The 'center band' that is set in the current vi works quite well and i'll stick with it for now, since i won't have much more time to work on this project.
I avoided adding tilt for now because i thought it would only complicate things. Now that panning works, i've duplicated the method and adjusted it for tilt.
I'm also considering removing the Vision Assistant nodes, since for calibration purposes i need to go into it and create new templates from scratch every time, and this will only get more tedious as i start experimenting with more complex 'targets'. A more viable solution is presented here, where everything is set once the application is launched.
Please find attached an updated copy of the VI. It's a bit laggy, i'll continue working on it and updating.
James, thank you again for providing a working solution. I'd love to give you credit when the project's finished.

  • Panning tool in AS 3

Any one can help to make panning tool in AS 3. for reference the url is:
    http://www.oxylusflash.com/flashfiles/panning-tool-with-mini-browser-as3-xml

You aren't likely to get someone to help you build it with detailed instructions, but stranger things have happened here.  Basically, you need to place the image in a movieclip and manipulate the movieclip's properties.  For having panning buttons you code buttons that will incrementally modify the x and y properties of that movieclip.  For zooming you code a control to incrementally modify the scaleX and scaleY properties.  To modiy the position by dragging it, you incorporate startDrag() and stopDrag() code for the movieclip.
Your best bet for getting thru designing this is to tackle one aspect at a time.  If you have a problem getting a particular aspect working, start a new posting and include whatever code you are using and describe how it is set up.
If you have no interest in learning how to make your own, $15 is a reasonable amount to pay to purchase what you linked compared to the time it will take you otherwise.

  • Forced Pan Tool

Has anyone else encountered an issue after changing text in the inspector, motion automatically forces you to the pan tool (hand icon) and won't allow you to change back to the select/transformation tool, pretty much meaning you can't do anything until you restart motion? I've only ever encountered it after editing text and then it is random as to when it happens. Slightly frustrating!

Yes. This has been a bug in Motion since the start. It has to do with an interaction with the keyboard shortcuts - if you hold down the space bar your tool turns into the hand tool allowing you to pan around when you're zoomed in.
The answer is the same as it's always been. Just click somewhere on the canvas and press space. Your tool will switch out of the hand tool.
    easy as cake...

  • Pan Tool Hangs

    Hi all,
I haven't seen posts on this problem. Hopefully someone is experiencing the same issue.
In Motion I am adding text and/or working with it when for now apparent reason the SELECT TOOL changes to the PAN TOOL (hand) and won't allow me to do anything else after it becomes the PAN TOOL. I have to close the program and reopen it to be able to select text or images to move them around the layout.
I have tried to select the TEXT TOOL and other tools, do something on the layout I'm working in and then go to the Select Tool. Everytime I do this, the pointer reverts to the PAN TOOL and won't give it up.
Has anyone else had a similar issue? Is there a fix?
    Thanks in advance.

H is the keyboard short cut as well as holding down the space bar. Is it possible that these keys are being pressed (or the keyboard think they are)?

  • Everything keeps changing to Pan Tool?

I'm fairly new to Motion, but I'm having a problem that I can find the answer to.
I'm trying to either draw a rectangle or create a mask.  Every time I go to either tool and try to draw the shape, the tool automatically changes to the Pan Tool and just moves the frame.
Am I doing something wrong here?

    Hi
First post so do not shoot me down if I break some rule here but as I was getting the same issue, V Frustrating i know, I thought I would post my solution.
Felix, above pointed me in the right direction but I did this
After following the steps from Dr Von Smith I closed iTunes
Went to the old C drive location
    Moved the
    iTunes Library Extras.itdb
    iTunes Library Genius.itdb
    iTunes Library.itl
    iTunes Library.xml
    iTunes Music Library.xml
    and the Album Artwork
to the new location on my D drive
Held shift and clicked on iTunes icon
it asked me for library location so I pointed it to the new location on D
    Closed iTunes
Opened iTunes nomally and the Preferences > Advanced > location has held
Time will tell but at least it seems to be sticking now....

    Mac 10.1.13
I would like to keep my panes up after opening each document, but they keep closing.
The other issue I have is once I go to edit a form, I cannot get back to the Tools | Comment | Share
This is greyed out, so not sure why
Only way out is to quit and restart app. After doing this over 20X a day and last few years am giving in and hoping the wisdom of someone here can help.

For Forms editing there is a button at the top right. Other tools, just close the category.

  • Where is the 'hand' pan tool in preview

    Still can't find it!
I'm also missing the 'zoom selection' tool.
I hoped Mavericks would catch up on this…
Seems like OSX devs think the only content of PDF might be text and over-size drawings and images are just not allowed.
This is a pain in the a… for everybody related to graphic design …
But hey, Macs are not made for that kind of business!
    sincerely,

    Zoom is command +/-.
Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • Canvas window only selects PAN (hand) tool

Has anyone had an issue where after working for a while in Motion, you can select and tool in the tool bar but when you go to work with it in the canvas window it will always change to the hand icon, the PAN tool, and not let you use any tool you select, only the PAN tool. Sometimes this will go away on its own but often I have to quit Motion because it becomes really annoying...

When I get stuck with the hand - happens when going in and out of text every now and then - just press the space bar. Motion doesn't start playing your clip, it just switches over to the pointer. Why? Bug.

  • I can't change the pan / zoom duration in Premiere Elements 13

Ok I'm getting really frustrated especially after I just watched a video tutorial which clearly shows how to do this in Premiere Elements 10 and I have JUST purchased version 13!
What I'm not able to adjust is the speed or duration between focus frames in a pan / zoom; after it's set up.
You are supposed to be able to go into the PAN TOOL, and either click on the pan duration, or in the In the Pan Time dialog, scrub the time duration to the desired value, or enter a value in the dialog box, OR simply adjust / drag the focus frame markers in the timeline (like in the video tutorial I watched...) to change the pan duration.  In my software at least NONE of these work.  (All these from:  Adobe Premiere Elements Help | Pan and zoom to create video-like effect)
I can't click on the pan duration, well if I do nothing happens, I can't even get a Pan Time Dialog box; so I can't do it that way; and lastly I can't click and adjust the focus frame markers in the timeline....none of it works and I can hardly believe that this is correct...the only way that I can adjust the pan time, is to delete the effect completely and start it over...this can't be correct can it??
    Any help would be appreciated!!!

Ok yep you are great, so I'm sorry I'm attempting to do it on video clips, not stills.
I was aware that the last versions of PE had similar Pan and Zoom workspaces, that's why I knew or thought I knew that my situation could be solved.
The first link that you recommend is exactly where I got the third paragraph of my question, so I had already reviewed that and to me when you read the directive it still makes it sound like you can adjust the focus frame markers....?  (very confusing)
The second link you sent might have helped me realize that the tool doesn't work the same way for Stills and it does for Video clips; (I really think like on the Adobe web site this difference should be markedly more clear to help with confusion; but in their defense maybe it's me being slow to understand)
I was able to figure out some of the difference through perseverance last night, and did figure out (like your last link explains) that you can move the CTI and then add a new focus frame...BUT I still have my original question...how can you adjust the pan duration on a video clip after it's been made and you have left the pan and zoom tool like if you want to edit that timing... I think the answer is that you can't lol, I think it has to be deleted or a new focus frame added and the other deleted to adjust the timing...am I correct?
This quote is taken from the Adobe web site one of the links you shared
You can work with focus frames in videos the same way that you work with focus frames for images. However, only those options that are relevant to movie clips appear in the pan and zoom tool.
I think maybe the last sentence is attempting to explain that but it's just so ambiguous...
Just trying to figure it out!  I do appreciate your help!

  • Can I add a second tools palette in a secondary display for convenience?

Is it possible to add a second tools palette to my workspace for use in a secondary monitor to avoid having to go from one monitor to the ther to change tools. I know about the shortcuts but would still like a second tools palette.
