Panic in modload nfs
We have a DD that must be installed early during boot. . When we install our driver and reboot everything is fine - system and driver come up. But subsequent reboots always cause the panic in modload nfsserv seen below. I suspect that we're not installing our SMF service correctly. Any ideas, especially why it takes 2 reboots to trigger this panic?
Incidentally, wiping all traces of driver from /dev, SMF, and running rem_drv, followed by reinstalling driver and service - before each reboot - make the panic go away.
thanks for any advice,
Mike

Trap 7d
What is wrong with the setup, when a breakpoint would cause a traceback and panic on the target? One other possibility is having sufficient rights, especially if you are invoking it via some other app, rather than manually as a logged in user. If you are not logged in and instead invoke it via a web site action, I believe you will have problems reading the registry, accessing a desktop, writing to disk, etc.
Sorry I can't be more definitive, but perhaps it will help.
Please post your conclusion, if you find it.

10.6.1: panic running latest vuze
Happened a number of times. Have run disk verify, etc; happens
without any uncorrected problems. Panic message
(give or take the hex) always the same. HW: Macmini2,1; various USB/FW devs,
Only other oddity 4GB RAM installed (3 usable, maxmem=3072 was
put into boot-args back before upgrade from Leopard so top and
Activity Monitor wouldn't lie). Some crashes early after upgrade to 10.6,
not much or at all after 10.6.1, but happening again. Main change
around when it started happening again was change of cable modem/router
from Linksys WCG-200 (all in one) to D-Link DCM-202 and DIR-825NA
(latter stank at 2.00NA firmware, seems otherwise great at 2.02NA; switched
hoping that smarter router wouldn't lock up due to torrent downloads
(didn't at 2.00NA, but dropped/reset/ran slow; fast and smooth at 2.02NA
for everything else, but now the Mac crashes again, whenever using vuze). One
last possible complication: direct automount of ~/Documents/Azureus Downloads
from Sun Blade 2000 NFS server (running SXCE snv_97); that's never been
a problem before (my ~/Music/iTunes is also mounted like that, given vastly more
space (1TB fully mirrored) on the Sun. But given that the panic is a networking issue,
and the Mac's link to the new router runs at 1Gb FDX (old was 100Mb FDX, I think), while
the Sun and the cable modem can both send/receive 100Mb or less, I'm probably
able to push the Mac's NIC harder than before now. Router IP, everything directly
visible except internal router MAC addr is the same. Both routers doing NAT and uPnP,
and vuze using it.
Sent in a couple of these via the panic reporter, but without all the endless ancillary
data (too much to review meaningfully).
Not switching cable modem back, too much better than old one for that, and
the cable folks are minimally clueful. The one experiment I might be willing to try is to
temporarily make the Azureus Downloads directory local (if I can figure out how not
to corrupt the capability to resume a download too big to store locally that was running
at the time of the crash - maybe keep copy of existing ~Library/Application Support/Vuze)
and try vuze with strictly local download dir.
Still...apps shouldn't crash kernel...and I don't think 3rd party kexts
should have been involved...

com.apple.iokit.IOACPIFamily 1.3.0Nice catch. Same issue repeating crash on 10.6.2 with a Macbook Pro 2.2 & Vuze 4.3.0.0. Disabled IPv6 and so far so good. I'll reply again if it crashes or if I find a workaround.
P.S. I haven't spent too much time with 10.6 but Apple hasn't always been a big fan of RFCs. We had a nightmare dealing with 10.3-10.5 OSX machines spitting out DHCP discover requests while still in the bound state and older tiger machines sending malformed dhcp requests causing ip conflicts and bad addresses all over our network.

Arch won't boot, FS not detected, Kernel Panic.
Ok so here is the situation. I have arch linux installed on sda1, which is a sata drive, samsung. Seems lately I been having problems getting arch to boot because it doesn't know what type filesystem my root device has. It goes on and tells me that I can use the kernel parameter rootfstype= to solve the issue, but yet when I try this, it does nothing. I stop getting the error, about unknown FS type, but arch still won't boot. Init fails...
I have tried everything on these forums to fix the problem and not one thing in general has solved the issue. What seems to be most consistent about this problem, is it takes me at least 20 - 30 times of rebooting before it will finally go through and boot. But, even then this is not foolproof. Last night I tried at least 30+ times of rebooting, powering off and still it would not boot.
So after reading the forums some more I found an article somewhat related to my problem and it was suggested that I add my root FS type as a module and then remove the filesystem hook in mkinitcpio.conf. I tried this approach and at the same time downgraded to 2.6.24.2-1 kernel26 so mkinitcpio would generate the new image. Then I rebooted and arch loaded just fine. So then I rebooted and again, unknown fs type on root device error.
So I retraced my steps and tried the same process again, only this time when I rebooted I got same problem. So as it seems, nothing I did to mkinitcpio.conf did anything to alleviate my problem.
As of right now, I managed to get the fallback image to work(but fallback does not load all the time, just this last time I tried it it worked), but I am scared to death to turn off my machine because I know it's not gonna reboot without a lot of hassle.
So can anyone help me diagnose this problem? What can I do to get the kernel to boot and mount the root device with ext3 and pass init on boot up? I am completely lost when it comes to this...

Last edited by jacko (2008-04-15 19:53:35)I had a similar issue (I think, can you post the exact error the kernel panics with to check?) and it seemed grub or the kernel had difficulties with finding my root device which was specified as a device node in /dev. The solution for me was to change the root parameter in my kernel line in grub's menu.lst to root=/dev/disk/by-label/<label>, I'm sure UUID and such will work fine too. After doing that I haven't encountered a single such kernel panic. More info about persistent device naming can be found here.

System Hang, kernel panic.
Hello list,
Doing some independent research into an issue we are having here. We have 21 x4540s running 5.10 Generic_141445-09. They are used as NFSv4 servers to front-end servers. The x4540s that are used for mail (postfix+dovecot) periodically hang. The others do not.
Since they hang, it has been difficult to diagnose what the issue could be. We have "set pcplusmp:apic_panic_on_nmi=1" in /etc/system, and I try to issue "set generate_host_nmi = true" in ILOM, but it appears to be too dead to manage that.
The only symptoms we have in the logs are:
Jul 24 07:50:49 x4500-11.unix inetd[292]: [ID 702911 daemon.error] Unable to fork inetd_start method of instance svc:/network/nfs/rquota:default: Resource temporarily unavailable
Jul 24 07:51:09 x4500-11.unix last message repeated 1 time
Jul 24 07:51:15 x4500-11.unix sshd[343]: [ID 800047 auth.error] error: fork: Error 0
Jul 24 07:54:25 x4500-11.unix last message repeated 4 times
A few times I have had a working shell connected when it happened, still running top, which shows it is not out of memory, not even close. No process has gone wild (pretty much just nfsd running). It would appear that it can't start new processes, but not due to lack of memory. Eventually it grinds down to a halt, including console. If I try to run "reboot" (or even reboot -d) it tries to reboot, but fails (just hangs). ILOM reset /SYS will bring it all back again.
Currently, this happens 2-3 times a month. Funnily enough, always at night. What does run at night is a recursive zfs snapshot. It usually dies sometime after that. The process that always gets the first error is rquotad. But that could just be because it is constantly queried.
Not much to go on alas.
Then one day, we got a panic dump. Is it the same problem, or something unrelated? Hard to know, but IF it were to be related...

Can I use mdb to dump all the currently-used-stack memory, and collect that data to see if there is a leak? I could also double the stacksize and see if the period between trouble also doubles.
Any other suggestions which may help in locating the troubles we are seeing?SteveS,
Thanks for the reply. I have handed it off to the local support, and believe they have forward it to Oracle Japan. Possible, it goes through a lot of language translation, so it is a little like playing Telephone.
I was trying to decipher your ::cpuinfo -v information to see if I could determine if we were having this issue. But I am unsure what to look for in a non-healthy system.
This is the output I get

ENABLE As for "ps" we only have 42 procs, and threads the biggest process is "nfsd" (can use up to 1024, but hovers around 300). We are not hanging (or even considering the fork error) due to normal resource limits.
While waiting, I am poking around in the dump to see if we can find anything interesting. Last time, Telka managed to find out about the OpenOwner lock leaks, which was encouraging. -
Hi all
Here are the symptoms:
0. Otherwise normal system usage; system uptime more than 24 hours.
1. System freezes.
2. Three loud beeps, identified as the self-diagnostic report for cases of RAM failure.
3. Message in console/terminal style characters in the upper left hand corner of the screen: "debugger called: double panic"
Additional info:
(A) Does not seem to be timed with installation of new software or new usage pattern.
(B) Apple "genius" ran hardware diagnostics; RAM as well as all other systems passed.
(C) This happened before, but I didn't notice of there was a message or whether machine froze
(D) In response to (C), I had re-seated RAM as instructed in MacBook Pro manual.
(C) MacBook Pro, mid-2010; Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3 (11D50b); 2.66 GHz Intel Core i7; 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3; NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB
The "genius" couldn't find anything when he searched what he termed "the knowledge base." He didn't have access to the message, though.
Google has been useless, but I am not that great a google searcher.
I hope no one has had anything similar---but if you have, let me know what, if anything, helped!
Thanks!I am re-opening (or rather just continuing) this thread because this problem persists. This time the machine was asleep, with the lid closed, and the three-beep RAM fault alarm started going of. The machine would not wake up and I pushed the power button and held it to turn it off.
I upgraded to 10.7.4 recently (as soon as I was notified by the system update message).
This time, when I restarted, it began indexing the disk using Spotlight. The little flashing dot appeared in the magnifying glass, and if I pulled down the menu, it gave the message that's given when it first begins indexing.
Here is the result of executing the commands recommended above:

While playing games like NFS and CounterStrike my macbook pro it does connects to the hotspot by any device either a Windows laptop, but doesn't show or connect to the server (LAN) created by windows player. Or, any other devices doesn't connects to the LAN server that i created in the Game.
Could any one help me please. Please do not post more than about 50 lines of console logs or output from an Application crash at a time. No one can make it through those.
If you had a kernel panic, those are Full of good information and should be posted in their entirety. They are stored, and can be read back and posted using this article:
How to log a kernel panic -
NetInstalls/Restores Failing - Constant Kernel Panics
Hello all -
Before I begin, I admit to being a little over my skis and a bit of a rube when it comes to this stuff - I know just enough to royally screw stuff up. I've tried to do my due diligence in searching on the topic but haven't come up with anything that seems to work.
I'm trying to create images that I can deploy in a school setting with mavericks server. Specifically, trying to install simple images of 10.9.5 on some of our iMacs - yes I have the installer from the app store on the machine used to make the images. Making the images doesn't seem to be the problem. I can make them, get them into my netbootspo folder and all machines see them in the startup disk.
The problem occurs when trying to install the image. I generally get a continuous kernel panic. Usually immediately, sometimes a few minutes in. On occasion the install just "freezes."
Images are set to install via NFS.
I'm working on machines plugged in via ethernet
I've tried looking a the logs on a client - i don't really know what to look for though. I do see:
something about missing core services
[375:303] layoutstill needs update after calling -[NSSscrollViewLayout]
In the server log I only see:
BSDP offer sent
and
BSDP DISCOVER
The clients I'm working with are older (pre 2011 machines). There are students using the newer models and I don't want to affect any work/projects they're doing.
I can update machines via a bootable installer on a flash drive and bring them back to life - I'm just trying to make it a bit easier on myself (whats that about best-laid plans?) and utilize server to do it.
Thanks for looking, and thanks for your patience with me.I've tried making new images a few times with no change in behavior on the client side...even made them from different machines to be sure with freshly downloaded installers.
Yes, this is a super basic net install with zero extra steps added by design. From the get go i wanted to simply get my feet wet with the process before I tried any fancy stuff.
On:
#1 - I'm able to run the same OS installer from a bootable flash drive and all is well. This was actually the motivation to start this project, so I didn't have to run around chasing flash drives (eventually) around my district.
#2 - has been a suspicion of mine, pinpointed what and where though....I'll try HTTP, along with..
#3 - Verbose mode. Thanks for that tip. I'll report back.
Again, thank you for your time. -

I can boot with Failsafe, but no multiboot.
What can I do?Apparently the nfs client module is need for some reason I don't understand (I'm doing a local CD install). Since I installed the SUNWCrnet cluster this kernel module didn't install.
I resolved this by manually installing the SUNWnfsckr from failsafe mode.. -
Cannot install Arch on raid0 (kernel panics)
I followed the Howto in the wiki to install Arch on a Raid 0 array, but when trying to boot I keep getting errors that boil down to "no filesystem could mount root" followed by a kernel panic.
I modified the howto to my needs:
- created a Raid 0 array using mdadm from logical partitions /dev/sda7 and /dev/sdb7. /dev/sda6 will be /boot and /dev/sdb6 will be swap (both not in raid, of course)
- Put filesystems in place (tried Reiserfs and ext3 for the array; ext2 for /boot seems to be fine as the boot does initialize)
- mounting of array to /mnt
- Edit configfiles. Mkinitcpio is the important one, I feel:
# vim:set ft=sh
# MODULES
# The following modules are loaded before any boot hooks are
# run. Advanced users may wish to specify all system modules
# in this array. For instance:
# MODULES="piix ide_disk reiserfs"
MODULES="pata_jmicron ata_generic ahci ata_piix sata_sil24 raid0"
# BINARIES
# This setting includes, into the CPIO image, and additional
# binaries a given user may wish. This is run first, so may
# be used to override the actual binaries used in a given hook.
# (Existing files are NOT overwritten is already added)
# BINARIES are dependancy parsed, so you may safely ignore libraries
BINARIES=""
# FILES
# This setting is similar to BINARIES above, however, files are added
# as-is and are not parsed in anyway. This is useful for config files.
# Some users may wish to include modprobe.conf for custom module options,
# like so:
# FILES="/etc/modprobe.conf"
FILES=""
# HOOKS
# This is the most important setting in this file. The HOOKS control the
# modules and scripts added to the image, and what happens at boot time.
# Order is important, and it is recommended that you do not change the
# order in which HOOKS are added. Run 'mkinitcpio -H <hook name>' for
# help on a given hook.
# 'base' is _required_ unless you know precisely what you are doing.
# 'udev' is _required_ in order to automatically load modules
# 'modload' may be used in place of 'udev', but is not recommended
# 'filesystems' is _required_ unless you specify your fs modules in MODULES
# Examples:
# This setup specifies all modules in the MODULES setting above.
# No raid, lvm2, or encrypted root is needed.
# HOOKS="base"
# This setup will autodetect all modules for your system and should
# work as a sane default
# HOOKS="base udev autodetect ide scsi sata filesystems"
# This setup will generate a 'full' image which supports most systems.
# No autodetection is done.
# HOOKS="base udev ide scsi sata usb filesystems"
# This setup assembles an ide raid array with an encrypted root FS.
# Note: See 'mkinitcpio -H raid' for more information on raid devices.
# HOOKS="base udev ide raid encrypt filesystems"
# This setup loads an lvm2 volume group on a usb device.
# HOOKS="base udev usb lvm2 filesystems"
HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata raid usbinput keymap filesystems"
md=0,/dev/sda7,/dev/sdb7
I also tried adding reisferfs to 'modules' and using rootfstype=reiserfs as a kernel parameters.
- Install kernel
- Chrooting into the basesystem and run mdadm -D -scan >> /etc/mdadm.conf
- Editing menu.lst of an existing installation (Ubuntu, in which incidentally raid0 runs fine)
title Arch Linux
root (hd0,5)
kernel /vmlinuz26 root=/dev/md0 ro md=0,/dev/sda7,/dev/sdb7
What am I doing wrong? I know there's something about creating nodes, but I cannot find any useful information on it. Also, perhaps I am simply missing a module?

SC 3.2 HA NFS error messages
Hello,
my HA NFS SC3.2 produces zillions of error messages :
Feb 12 23:54:38 myhost SC[SUNW.nfs:3.2,myrg,myrg-nfs,nfs_daemons_probe]:
[ID 176151 daemon.error] Unable to lookup nfs:nfs_server from kstat:
No such file or directoryPlease help me to fix the problem.
TIA,
-- leonActually I am surprised that it works so far for you
:-) I would have expected more problems.I am glad I prepared you a good surprise :)
As you know Sun Cluster has quite some components
living in kernel space, and while within a Solaris
version (like S10) certain apis are guaranteed to
stay stable, with going to the next release some can
change - thus need a new set of binaries compiled for
that version.
It is a bit like running the S9 binaries on a S10
system. The only luck you seem to have is that not
enough changed within nevada to break it at a more
disturbing point yet (like a panic while trying to
boot).Again - I am well aware about all these aspects.
>
The data service for nfs consists also of several
compiled binaries, and the code does also check some
kstat values. Obvioulsy this interface changed, since
it does create the error message you see.I was sure that somebody from SC staff is aware what's going on in OpenSolaris (aka Nevada) and will send me a hint. Maybe my post didn't get to the right person or - these two areas have no connections.
>
So I understand that zfs works faster/better for you,
but you trade it against stabability. This might be
ok for development, but I would not choose it for
production.I know you wouldn't.
>
Of course feel free to do it anyway - as long as you
know what you are doing.Anyway any idea on finding the problem will be appreciated.
Thanks,

[SOLVED] Netbooting with PXE, TFTP and NFS / Numerous errors
Greetings all, hope you can help me out.
Been given a task by my company of making a network bootable ICA client (with X and Firefox, with the Citrix ICA client installed) as small as possible to minimize network traffic (as 440 workstations would be downloading the end-product simultaneously, so it'd beat ten bells of proverbial out of the core and edge switches for a little while). I discovered two options. One being to integrate everything in side a cloop image directly inside the INITRD. I have stacks of working INITRDs with their matched kernels yet being my first dabble in to extracting the INITRD, my faffing with CPIO has resulted in me nuking my base layout (Thank god for snapshotting in VMware Workstation!) 4 times, and either getting "Premature end of file" or a copius amount of lines stating "cpio: Malformed Number: <strange characters>" finally ending with "Premature end of file". As a result I went in search of another option, which would be booting off an NFS share. I followed the guide:
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dis … t_NFS_root
...in order to set up a network booted install of Arch and hit a few snags along the way, probably a result of using multiple operating systems for the TFTP and NFS server as opposed to using what the guide recommends, but I'm not sure as these seem solvable, although I don't know how right now.
The set up:
DHCP is provided by a Microsoft Windows Server 2003 VM (AD Integrated) on 172.16.10.17 on a box called "Rex".
TFTP is provided by another Windows Server 2003 VM by "TFTPd32" which is a free download. This is located on 172.16.10.158 on a box called "Terra".
The NFS store is provided by OpenFiler 2.3 which is a specialized version of rPath Linux designed specifically for turning boxes in to dedicated NAS stores. This is located on 172.16.10.6, and is called "frcnet-nas-1".
The problem:
DHCP is correctly configured with a Boot Host Name (Which is 172.16.10.158) and a boot file name of "pxelinux.0". This is confirmed as working.
Client gets the kernel and INITRD from TFTP and boots up fine until it hits "Waiting for devices to settle..." by which point it echos out "Root device /dev/nfs doesn't exist, attempting to create it...", which it seems to do so fine. It then passes control over to kinit and echos "INIT: version 2.86 booting" and the archlinux header, and immediately after that it prints:

...and, nothing after that, it just stops. Kernel doesn't panic, and hitting ctrl+alt+delete does what you'd expect, a clean shutdown minus a few errors about filesystems not being mounted. It seems /proc isn't getting mounted because init apparently doesn't have the appropriate permissions, and /proc not being mounted causes a whole string of other issues. Thing is, proc gets created at boot time as it contains kernel specific information about the system and the kernel's capabilities, right? Why can't it create it? How come init doesn't have the same privileges as root as it usually would, and how would I go about fixing it?
I admit, while I'm fairly competent in Linux, this one has me stumped. Anyone have any ideas?
Last edited by PinkFloydYoshi (2008-11-22 12:29:01)The idea behind the Windows DHCP and TFTP is that we'd be using an existing server and a NetApp box with NFS license to serve everything off. I would have loved to make a new server which is completely Linux, but my boss, nor the other technician have ever used Linux so if I left for any reason, they'd be stuck if ever they ran in to trouble, which is why I've struggled to get Linux to penetrate our all Windows infrastructure.
During my hunting around on Google I found a lot of information on making my own initrd, and a lot of it using all manner of switches. I can make them fine, but I figure that I would need to look at extracting the current working one first, adding X, Firefox and the ICA client to it, then compressing it again. Cloop came about when I was looking at DSL's internals. The smaller the initrd, the better, so utilizing this could possibly be a plus too.
The reason I'm doing this with Archlinux is that I know Arch's internals quite well (and pacman is just wonderous, which is more than I can say for yum), so if I run in to a small problem I'm more likely to fix it without consulting Google. Fair enough though, the NFS booting method is giving me issues I never thought were possible. Ahh, sods law strikes again.
Addendum: I've noticed something which struck me as odd. Files in the NFS share are somehow owned by 96:scanner instead of root:root. Upon attempting changing, it's telling me "Operation Not Permitted". Further prodding has led me to believe it's an Openfiler thing where GID/UID 96 on the OpenFiler box is "ofgroup"/"ofguest". Chowning / to root:root puts NFS boot right ahead and gives me a prompt, however I cannot log in as root. I've also discovered that chrooting in to the base from my Arch workstation and creating a directory makes the directory owned by ofgroup:ofguest again, so it's an Openfiler thing after all this time. Prodding further.
Addendum two: For anyone using Openfiler out there, when you allow guest access to the NFS share, be sure to set the Anonymous GID and Anonymous UID to 0. By default it's 96 and as a result when trying to boot you get the errors I experienced. This is insecure and you should use some sort of network/host/ip range restriction. Because the root filesystem has 96:96 as the owner of everything after you install the base layout using pacman (and any changes you make afterward) init and root no longer have the appropriate permissions, user 96:96 (which is "scanner" in Archlinux) has the permissions instead and init, in order to complete boot would need to be "scanner" in order to boot completely.
Solution is to set Anon GID and Anon UID to 0, chown the entire diskless root filesystem to root, then use a linux desktop to mount the diskless root filesystem, mount /proc, /sys and mount bind /dev, then chroot in to the diskless root filesystem. At this point to clear up any problems with bad passwords, use passwd to change your password. Exit the chroot environment then unmount the diskless proc, sys and dev. Boot up via the network and use your chosen password to log in as root. At this point, start clearing up permissions from the en masse filesystem chown and you should then have a usable diskless root.
I'll experiment further and clear up some of the remaining permission errors that occured during boot and report on my progress in fixing it. Didn't like the idea of chowning the entire share as root. :S

A disk array is attached to the Sun OS 5.8 server through NFS and is used for the storage of the iPlanet Message server's message store. There are warnings for this NFS volume: NFS write error: on host (10.10.10.10 (the disk array): Not Owner). What does this mean?
During the restart of the solaris server, this warning messaging repeated endlessly on the screen with a white backgroud.
I had to use Stop-A to stop it, and then, panic and dump occured.
During the startup, a message was "consistent dma sync timeout." What does this mean?
After the server restarted, the NFS warnings are still there.
The server is Solaris 8 on SunFire 480.
What could the problems be? How to solve them? Thanks.
Let me clarify the situation here:
Only the mailboxes are on the NFS volume and shared by the two mail servers. -
msg-instance/store/mboxlist and msg-instance/store/user are located locally. ONLY msg-instance/store/partition/primary is on the NFS volume and shared between the two mail servers.
So, would this still be a problem?
And, yes, the mailsvr user id exists on the IBM NAS which provides disk arrays for this NFS volume. Do I need grant particular rights to this user on NAS? Do I need to do something on the NFS server which, I think it is the Sun server?
Thanks again. -
SA_MAGIC header corrupt on ZFS causing kernel panic in S11.1 SRU5.5
I have a number of Sun Fire x4500s and x4540s running S11.1 SRU5.5. One of the x4540s has recently started kernel panicking within minutes of powering on and sharing its file systems over NFS (it provides user directories for a computing cluster). If I don't share via NFS, the kernel panics do not occur.
When I run mdb on the kernel panic coredump I get:
\> ::panicinfo
cpu 1
thread fffffffc80e52c20
message
assertion failed: BSWAP_32(hdr->sa_magic) == SA_MAGIC, file: ../../common/fs/zfs/sa.c, line: 2079

thread_start+8()In doing some google searching, I'm able to infer from similar lines of code in OpenSolaris (and various ZFS derivatives) that the point of this line of code is to ensure that a ZFS block has a particular header with the correct endianness. Lines of code just prior to this swap the endianness if its is incorrect (at least in these derivatives). For example:
[ZFS corruption probably from bad RAM|https://github.com/zfsonlinux/spl/issues/157]
[FreeBSD kernel panic|http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-stable/2012-July/068882.html]
[ZFSOnLinux Panic|https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/1303]
So basically, this assert ought to work unless the header was written to disk incorrectly. I've recently done a resilver since a disk had failed and I'm currently in the middle of a scrub with estimated 90h to go. It did fix about 12kb of mistakes on the scrub even though it was right after the resilver.
Nevertheless, I don't think this should be able to happen unless the redundant copies of this header were also corrupted.
I wrote a little script that loops over process IDs and addresses in the core dump and prints this for each
echo $addr | awk '{print $1,"::pfiles"}' | mdb $DMPNO
The files that are open are all device files (eg./devices/pseudo/...) or things in /var, /etc, /lib, things like that. The user directories/files do not appear to be actively open in the core dump. That said, I cannot match the thread above to a process ID. So maybe there are open files that are not captured in the core dump
Since the machine will panic when I make NFS available, I am currently doing two things to try to resolve the problem:
(1) a zpool scrub
(2) "zfs send"ing a snapshot of every filesystem straight to /dev/null
The idea behind (2) is that eventually I'll read the bad block and force the kernel panic to happen. I'll infer from the log of the script which filesystem is bad and NFS share all the others.
You should assume that I can spell mdb, but not much more than that and everything I've done thus far has been mimicking things I have found in google searching.
Thanks for any advice the community has to help me fix the bad file/filesystem. I am happy to provide more details from mdb or whatever is needed.

Edited by: 998996 on Apr 9, 2013 8:48 AMThe output of fmdump is below. On March 27th, 3 disks were automatically identified as having too many errors and were pulled from their zpools. I replaced them on April 2nd (I believe) and, while they were resilvering, kernel panics started happening on April 6th. After several panic / reboot cycles, I disabled NFS and have not experienced any panics sense. The resilver finished sometime on April 7th (I think) and I started a zpool scrub relatively soon thereafter.

I note a number of events on April 9th in the output of fmdump -eV. Maybe these are the scrub fixing things?

Hi
i have SPARC-Enterprise-T5220 machine- solaris 10.
in the past few days seems like the machine just reboots with kernel panic.
in this week 2 times all the zones were down and when i've execute the command uptime i saw the machine just startup again.
i've looked in the messages logs and it looks like this:

do you have any idea what can caused that problem?
the first thing i though is that this is hardware problem maybe in the cpu, but i think that if it was the machine was crashed and not just reboot herself.
it can cause by air condition problem?
maybe software issue?
what can i check for more info?
ThanksIt's likely time for you to use your service contract and open a support case with Sun.
Get the corefile properly analyzed.
The only things I notice in your excerpt were suggesting a possible corrupt spot on a file that is out on a NFS filesystem. Whatewver application you're running was unable to use it and in order to limit the amount of corruption, the system rebooted.
