Pass String[] (String Array) type to a parameter in "Edit Action Binding"

Hi
Hope you are doing fine. This is very important to me, kindly help me in this regad.
I have a scenario where I need to pass in a parameter of type String[] that has only one value {"Name"} to a webservice that returns some values.
I've created a WS datacontrol, dragged and dropped the return value on to a jspx, then it asks me to give the input value
How do I pass it to the Parameter in "Edit Action Binding"?
When I say new String[]{"Name"}, it gives me the following error
Cannot create an object of type:[Ljava.lang.String; from type:java.lang.String with value:new String[]{"Name"}
Similarly, I hardcoded this value in a managedBean, added it to requestScope/applicationScope and queried it using #{applicationScope.AppCreationBean.epsName}
But this time, it says, the value is null. I guess the value is not getting initialized properly. But if i hardcode the value in the getter method, I'm again getting the error as above.
Would some one tell me how to pass an array of type String (ie, String[]) with a value "Name" in the "Edit Action Binding" wizard itself?
Regards
RaviKiran

Hi Frank
Thanks for the reply.
Issue resolved by initializing it in the ManagedBean.
For some reason, when I put it in request/application scopes, it was coming as null, but when I registered the Bean in PageFlowScope, it was working!

  • Passing PL/SQL table type as IN Parameter to DB Adapter

    Hi,
    I have an requirement to pass multiple record values(array of values) to an API from BPEL process.
    For this,
    1) I have created a package procedure having PL/SQL table type variable as IN Parameter.
    2) In the BPEL process, created a DB adpater pointing to the above API.(Created wrapper API impicitly)
    When I intiated the BPEL process passing multiple values, the API is taking only the first value, ignoring rest of the values.
    Any reason, why only the first value is accepted by the API ?
    Thanks,
    Rapp.

    If I understand correctly, JPublisher generates a wrapper API for an underlying API that takes a PL/SQL table as an IN parameter. The wrapper will generate and use a SQL nested table as the type for the IN parameter of the wrapper procedure.
    The DB adapter DOES support nested tables, varrays, and objects as IN parameters of an API. The problem you are seeing is most likely due to the way you are modeling your BPEL process, specifically with respect to your Assign activities.
    When you Assign TO an IN parameter, make sure that you drill down all the way and choose the parameter name in the InputParameters root element. Similarly, when you Assign FROM the API value, you must drill down and choose the name of the OUT parameter in the OutputParameters root element.
    In a Transform activity, you would use the FOR construct on the target side to get the values of the nested table or varray from the source side.

  • How can I pass an empty array to a parameter of type PLSQLAssociativeArray

    How can I pass an empty array to a parameter of type PLSQLAssociativeArray in VB? I defined the parameter like this
    Dim myArray() as String = new String() {}
    Dim myPara as new Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleCollectionType.PLSQLAssociativeArray
    myPara = 0
    myPara.Value = myArray
    When I execute my stored procedure giving the above parameter, I got error saying OracleParameter.Value is invalid.
    I have tried to give it the DBNull.Value, but it doesn't work either.
    Note: everything works fine as long as myArray has some item in there. I just wonder how I can make it works in case I have nothing.

  • I can't pass empty string as column of Table Valued Parameter.

    Hello.
    I have stored procedure which accept TVP with columns of 'sql_variant' type. And I have C++ application which call this stored procedure.
    When i pass some non-empty string as sql_variant from my application - all works fine.
    But when I need to pass empty string ("") as sql_variant - I get following error:
    "OLEDB hr = 0x80040e14
     #0:  OLEDB provider error 3621  "The statement has been terminated."
     #1:  OLEDB provider error 8062  "The data for the table-valued parameter 1 doesn't conform to the table type of the parameter."
     #2:  OLEDB provider error 8046  "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Table-valued parameter 0 (""), row 1, column 1: The supplied length is not valid for data type sql_variant.
    Check the source data for invalid lengths. An example of an invalid length is data of nchar type with an odd length in bytes."
    Could you please help me deal with that issue?
    Thanks,
    Vitaliy

    Dear Vitaliy,
    Thank you for your question.
    Based on my understanding of your question, the issue is related with passing SQL_VARIANT data type in C++ application using Microsoft OLE DB Provider.
    As we can see from http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms173829(v=sql.100).aspx:
    ODBC does not fully support sql_variant. Therefore, queries of sql_variant columns are returned as binary data when you use Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC (MSDASQL). For example, a sql_variant column that contains the character string data 'PS2091'
    is returned as 0x505332303931.
    According to above statement, as you are using OLEDB provider for ODBC with sql_variant in your application, it is not fully support. Seems there are some conversion failure within the Stored Procedure calling. You may consider to adjust your application
    slightly to use other commonly supported data types which also fits your application requirements.
    I listed some more information regarding sql_variant below for your reference:
    A column of type sql_variant may contain rows of different data types such as int, binary and char values.
    A sql_variant data type must first be cast to its base data type value
    before participating in operations such as addition and subtraction. You can find the conversion details in "Comparings sql_variant Values" part.
    Below types of values cannot be stored by using sql_variant:
    varchar(max)
    varbinary(max)
    nvarchar(max)
    xml
    text
    ntext
    image
    timestamp
    sql_variant
    geography
    hierarchyid
    geometry
    User-defined types
    Hope it will be helpful.
    Thank you!

    Hi All,
    I am facing the following scenario -
    From WebDynpro Java i need to pass 2 String Arrays to a Webservice.
    The Webservice takes in 2 input String Arrays , say, Str_Arr1[] and Str_Arr2[] and returns a string output , say Str_Return.
    I am consuming this WebService in WebDynpro Java using WEB SERVICE MODEL. (NWDS 04).
    Can you please help out in how to consume a WSModel in WD where the WS requires String Arrays?

  • Passing (byref) String from Java to C++ via JNI

    I wish to pass a string to a C++ Dll as a parameter in a function. The problem is that I don't know howto receive back the data after it is filled in the C++ dll. I am trying to do what is called passing parameters by reference.
    Java Code:
    public class ABKeyBoard {
    public native long leerBanda(int pista, String datos);
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    String datos=new String();
    System.loadLibrary("ABKeyBoard");
    new ABKeyBoard().leerBanda(1,datos);
    System.out.println(datos); //the content of datos here is empty.
    C++ Code:
    Java_ABKeyBoard_leerBanda(JNIEnv *env, jobject obj,jint pista, jstring datos)
         char buffer[2024];
         memset(buffer,     0x00,     sizeof(buffer));
         strcpy(buffer, "xxxx");
         datos = env->NewStringUTF(buffer);
    return;
    Thanks for your help.

    In java every parameter are always passed by value.
    The datos parameter is a local copy of the string
    reference you pass to the method.This is wrong. The String passed to the native method is the same String object you use in Java. Although everything is passed by value in Java, what is actually passed by value is the reference to the String. This means that you can modify the object you pass, but you are not allowed to change the reference to point to a totally different object. That is where the problem is coming in.
    The trouble is that it is illegal to modify a String, even from native code. If you need to make changes in-place to the text, pass an array of chars (if your native code uses Unicode), an array of bytes (if it uses normal 8-bit characters) or a StringBuffer. You can legally modify any of these data structures with the new data. But the StringBuffer object is the only one whose length can be changed after it is created. Unfortunately it is also the hardest to use from JNI.
    Generally I think you should always pass arrays of bytes/chars to native code instead of Strings when possible. They can be modified in place, and you can use String's methods to get a byte-array in the platform's proper encoding. Using the GetStringUTFChars method is problematic because UTF only maps directly onto ASCII in the case of characters which are in the set of 7-bit ASCII characters. Your code will do wrong things if your String happens to contain some other character, unless your native code expects UTF format strings.
    The good news is that C(++) functions which return results in their arguments do not ordinarily change the length. So you should be able to allocate a byte[] or char[] ahead of time of the appropriate size (don't forget to add the trailing null, which is not a component of Java strings). I think byte[] or char[] is the best answer because you can easily map those onto C-style arrays with Get[Primitive]ArrayRegion; the return of that is suitable for passing directly to native code, as long as you have remembered the null-terminator. For instance you could do (*env)->GetByteArrayRegion(env, javaArray, 0, arrayLength, CArray) and then your CArray would be changed to point at the contents of the javaArray (note: it does not copy data into CArray, it changes CArray to point at the array contents, so do not allocate memory for CArray first). Then when you do ReleaseByteArrayRegion the results will be propagated back to Java.

  • Calling a stored proc that has a parameter of a user-defined (array) type

    Hi,
    Hope someone can help me on this, because I am really struggling...
    From a c-program, I am calling stored procedures using the OCI Interface. Everything is OK, when using the standard types (integer, string, date), but I am encountering problems when one of the parameters is of a type that is defined in the database as an array. My application calls multiple array-type parameters in one call, but for the sake of simplicity, I created a test application to only use one.
    The following call is working (but it needs to be called using the OCI functions):
    BEGIN
    p_test_table_num (pin_num1 => T_ARRAY_EH_DEP(1,2,3));
    END;
    My first step was to have the following combination:
    statement: begin p_test_table_num(:pin_num1);end;
    parameter: pin_num1
    value: t_array_eh_dep(1,2,3)
    That lead to the error (when executing the statement): wrong number or types of arguments
    Second idea (after a lot of browsing):
    statement: begin p_test_table_num(t_array_eh_dep(:pin_num1));end;
    parameter: pin_num1
    value: 1,2,3
    This leads to the error: numeric or value error: number precision too large.
    My bind function call looks like:
    if (res = OCIBindByName(stmthp, &bndArray[parCount], errhp, (text *) curPar,
    -1, (dvoid *) curVal, (sb4) sizeof(curVal), SQLT_NUM, (dvoid *) 0,
    (ub2 *) 0, (ub2) 0, (ub4) 0, (ub4 *) 0, OCI_DEFAULT) != OCI_SUCCESS){
    checkerr(errhp, "OCIBindByName", res);
    OCIHandleFree(stmthp, OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
    return -1;
    (in this function curPar is the name of the parameter and curVal contains the value)
    I also investigated the BindArrayOfStruct, but I concluded that this is to execute a stored procedure multiple times using different values for the parameters, and that is not what I want.
    I really hope someone can give me a direction to look in. I also need to call string and date arrays in the same way...
    Thanks
    Margit

    For those who are interested, I found the solution myself...
    To use any user-defined type, you need to perform the following steps:
    1. OCIBindByPos or OCIBindByName as you would bind a normal parameter
    2. OCITypeByName to get a reference to the type definition in Oracle
    3. OCIObjectNew to create a reference to the array (OCI_TYPECODE_VARRAY)
    4. Assign a value to the column, for instance use OCIStringAssignText, OCINumberFromInt, OCIDateFromText
    5. OCICollAppend ( to add the value from step 4 to collection)
    6. OCIBindObject
    7. OCIStmtExecute
    8. OCITransCommit
    Example:
    if (res = OCIBindByName(stmthp, &bndArray[parCount], errhp, (text *) curPar,
    -1, (dvoid *) curVal, (sb4) sizeof(curVal), SQLT_NTY, (dvoid *) 0,
    (ub2 *) 0, (ub2) 0, (ub4) 0, (ub4 *) 0, OCI_DEFAULT) != OCI_SUCCESS){
    checkerr(errhp, "OCIBindByName", res);
    OCIHandleFree(stmthp, OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
    return -1;
    if (res = OCITypeByName(envhp, errhp, svchp,
    (CONST text *) currentUserName, (ub4) strlen((CONST char *) currentUserName), /*schema*/
    (CONST text *) "T_ARRAY_EH_DEP", (ub4) strlen((CONST char *) "T_ARRAY_EH_DEP"), /* type */
    (CONST text *) 0, (ub4) 0, OCI_DURATION_SESSION, OCI_TYPEGET_HEADER,
    &type_array_eh_dep) != OCI_SUCCESS){
    checkerr(errhp, "OCITypeByName", res);
    OCIHandleFree(stmthp, OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
    return -1;
    OCIArray* eh_dep_array = (OCIArray*)0;
    OCINumber eh_dep_num;
    OCIObjectNew(envhp, errhp, svchp, OCI_TYPECODE_VARRAY, type_array_eh_dep,
    (dvoid*) 0, OCI_DURATION_DEFAULT, TRUE, (dvoid**)&eh_dep_array);
    /* get the values from the incoming array */
    curArrayItem = SOM_AtrValGetStrList(arrayValuesListMem,
    arrayValuesListAtr, arrayValueCount);
    do {
    if (STR_Eq(curArrayItem, "NULL")){
    OCICollAppend(envhp, errhp, (CONST dvoid *)0, &null_ind,
    (OCIArray*) eh_dep_array);
    else{
    tmpInt = atoi(curArrayItem);
    OCINumberFromInt(errhp, &tmpInt, sizeof(int), OCI_NUMBER_SIGNED,
    &eh_dep_num);
    OCICollAppend(envhp, errhp, (CONST dvoid *)&eh_dep_num, (CONST dvoid *) 0,
    (OCIArray*) eh_dep_array);
    arrayValueCount = arrayValueCount + 1;
    curArrayItem = SOM_AtrValGetStrList(arrayValuesListMem,
    arrayValuesListAtr, arrayValueCount);
    printf( "curArrayItem = %s\n", curArrayItem );
    } while (STR_Eq(curArrayItem, "%%%") == falseCN);
    arrayValueCount = arrayValueCount + 1; /* skip the %%% */
    if (res = OCIBindObject(bndArray[parCount], errhp,
    (OCIType *)type_array_eh_dep, (dvoid **) &eh_dep_array,
    (ub4 *) 0, (dvoid **) 0, (ub4 *) 0) != OCI_SUCCESS){
    checkerr(errhp, "OCIBindObject", res);
    OCIHandleFree(stmthp, OCI_HTYPE_STMT);
    return -1;
    }

  • Apparent inconsistency of "spreadsheet string to array"

    System: LabView6.1, XPpro, 512MB, 2.4GHz
    I have a sub-vi which I call to read a single column of data from a large CSV file. Files can be >500000 rows with 4-8 cols (ie. 15-30MB). The sub-vi uses "Read File", with byte stream type unwired, to return a string. This string is then passed to "spreadsheet string to array" (SStA), to obtain a 2D array. "Index Array" is then used to obtain the required data column.
    If I wire the format string of SStA with %f, and the array type with a 2D double, the sub-VI takes about 8 seconds every time I call it.
    If I wire format string with %s, and array type with 2D string (and convert to a double later, after index array), the sub-VI takes over 50s the first time it is c
    alled, but only about 1s on each subsequent call.
    The bottle neck is ONLY at SStA. I am not explicitly preallocating any arrays.
    Can anyone explain what LabView is doing internally with respects to memory allocation? Why is the second routine slow on the first call only, and subsequently considerably faster than the first routine? Is there any alternative way of "priming" the second sub-vi so it is not slow on the first call? I guess reading only subsets of data at a time might help, but I'd still like to understand what is going on with the current approach.

    Basically NI seems to have added some performance optimization with
    internal caching to the Spreadsheet String to Array function in the case
    of String outputs. Without it it would always take 50 seconds. If the
    input string does change significantly it probably won't be such a huge
    speed up anymore.
    For numeric type outputs no caching has been added and wouldn't help
    that much in comparison.

  • Pass an array of buttons by parameter

    Dear Java developers :
    I am asking about how can I pass an array of JButton by parameter.
    For example, I have a method that randomly picks a button that have an empty text (""), if not empty then the method recursively calls herself and so on until it finds an empty labeled button :
    private void randomPick(JButton buttons[]) {
              Random r = new Random();

              if (buttons[n].getText()!="") {

  • Is it possible to pass a string from an applet to the web site?

    Hi, everybody!
    Is it possible to pass a String from an applet to a web site (as a field value in a form, an ASP variable, or anything else). Basically, I have a pretty large String that is being edited by an applet. When a user clicks on the submit button, a different page will show up which has to display the modified string. The String is pretty large so it doesn't fit into the URL variable.
    Please, help!
    Thank you so much!

    Why do you want to do this in Java?
    Javascript is the correct language for these type of situations.
    for instance:
    in the head of your html document:
    <script language=javascript type="text/javascript">
    createWindow(form){
    if(form.text.value!=""){
    newDoc = new document
    newDoc.write(form.text.value)
    newWin = window.open(document,'newWin','width=200;height=150')
    </script>
    in the body:
    <form onSubmit="createWindow(this)">
    <p>
    Enter a String:<input type=text size=30 name="text">
    </p><p>
    <input type=submit value="submit">
    <input type=reset value="reset">
    </p>
    </form>

  • Conversion from string "20041023 " to type 'Date' is not valid.

    Hi ,
       I have a table with one of the column(EmpHiredate) datatype is char(10). It has value like "20141023". I need to display this value as date format(dd/mm/yyyy) in report.
    Following methods i tried in textbox expression but no luck.
    =Format(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,"dd/MM/yyyy")
    =Cdate(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value)
    Error:
    [rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘EmpHireDate.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Conversion from string "20041023  " to type 'Date' is not valid.
    Is it possible to convert string to date using SSRS textbox expression ? Can anyone help me with the solution.
    Thanks,
    Kittu

    Hi Jmcmullen,
         Found one more issue on the same. I have one value like "00000000" for the column(EmpHiredate)
    , when i use above expression values(ex:"20141023")
    are displaying in dd/MM/yyyy format in report except value like "00000000" and giving following error:
    [rsRuntimeErrorInExpression] The Value expression for the textrun ‘EmpHireDate.Paragraphs[0].TextRuns[0]’ contains an error: Conversion from string "0000/00/00" to type 'Date' is not valid.
    Even i tried to pass its original value("00000000") as below but no luck.
    =IIF(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value = "00000000","00000000",Format(CDATE(MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,1,4) + "/" + MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,5,2) + "/" + MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,7,2)),"dd/MM/yyyy"))
    Also tried this:
    =IIF(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value = "00000000","2000/10/21",Format(CDATE(MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,1,4) + "/" + MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,5,2) + "/" + MID(Fields!EmpHireDate.Value,7,2)),"dd/MM/yyyy"))
    Please Suggest.
    Thanks ,

  • How to pass a string value from XL sheet cell to SQL query.

    Hi,
    I am using SQL query in XL sheet to fetch some data. for that i am using ODBC connection. Now I want to pass a string from XL sheet Cell value in the where clause of Select statement, Please let me know how to do this.
    Below is My code:
    nge("A4").Select
    With ActiveSheet.QueryTables.Add(Connection:= _
    "ODBC;DRIVER={Microsoft ODBC for Oracle};UID=xyz;PWD=xyz;SERVER=xyz;" _
    , Destination:=Range("A4"))
    .CommandText = Array( _
    "SELECT CRYSTAL_REPORT1.PROJECT, CRYSTAL_REPORT1.OBJECT" & Chr(13) & "" & Chr(10) & "FROM NAIODEV.CRYSTAL_REPORT1 CRYSTAL_REPORT1" _
    .Name = "Query from gg"
    Thanks,
    Priya

    What does "XL" (whatever that is) have to do with Crystal Reports which is what you are obviously working with have to do with the Oracle database?
    The rules for using Crystal with Oracle are quite clearly described in all the Crystal Reports docs ... you MUST use IN OUT ref cursors unless you are doing direct table or view access.

  • How to search for particular string in array?

    I am struggling to figure out how to search array contents for a string and then delete the entry from the array if it is found.
    The code for a program that allows the user to enter up to 20 inventory items (tools) is posted below; I apologize in advance for it as I am also not having much success grasping the concept of OOP and I am certain it is does not conform although it all compiles.
    Anyway, if you can provide some assistance as to how to go about searching the array I would be most grateful. Many thanks in advance..

    Ok, so you have an array of Strings. And if the string you are searching for is in the array, you need to remove it from the array.
    Is that right?
    Can you use an ArrayList<String> instead of a String[ ]?
    To find it, you would just do:
    for (String item : myArray){
       if (item.equals(searchString){
          // remove the element. Not trivial for arrays, very easy for ArrayList
    }Heck, with an arraylist you might be able to do the following:
    arrayList.remove(arrayList.indexOf(searchString));[edit]
    the above assumes you are using 1.5
    uses generics and for each loop
    [edit2]
    and kinda won't work it you have to use an array since you will need the array index to be able to remove it. See the previous post for that, then set the value in that array index to null.

  • Converting XML string to Element Type

    Im receiving an XML document as a String.
    I have defined an element whose message type is of the same schema as the XML String.
    How can i assign this string to this element in BPEL?
    im using the setVariable function as follows:
    setVariableData("Customer","CustomerType", new String(received))
    It does not throw an error. But im unable to retrieve any of the values from this element.
    Could someone pls help me with this?

    The output seems to be fine and structured in the XML Format, when i pass the string to the Message Type(ie CustomerType) rather than the root node (CustomerElement).
    eg: in this case i have
    Customer - > CustomerType -> CustomerElement - > Name, date etc...
    When i assign the string to Customer Element, it displays it as a string.
    When i assign the string to CustomerType it displays it in the XML Structure.
    It however throws an error when i assign an element in the data to something.
