Passing a list of items from APEX to a Bi Publisher report

I currently have Bi Publisher report that is parameter driven based on items selected from an APEX application. Currently, the user select one value for the parameter and the value is passed in the URL string and the report produces as expected. Now the user wants to be able to select items from a checkbox list and the items checked are the values to be passed. Has anyone ever dealt with this type of request and if yes, could you please point me in the right direction. I search the forum and I couldn't find any topics that dealt with my situation.

Try using the "get content from textedit" action. More specifically, use your Applescript to dump the urls into a textedit doc and then use the "get contents..." action to feed the "get specified urls" action.

  • How to check if a list contains items from another list

    Hi all,
    I am trying to check whether a text list contains items form
    another list and then do something. I tried:
    tlist contains text phrases (e.g., test1,test2,test3)
    phrases = ["test1","test2"]
    n = phrases.count()
    tList.getPos(phrases.item[n])
    alert("should not be inluded in the list")
    But it is not working any ideas why?

    myPhrase is the loop index, but instead of a numerical index
    (like n in your sample), myPhrase is set equal to each item in the
    phrases list, first item to last. So, on the first iteration
    myPhrase = “test1”, on the second iteration myPhrase =
    “test2”. The loop automatically exits when the end of
    the list is reached. The Director help docs have more information
    on this syntax under “repeat”
    BTW: if you're more comfortable using a numerical index, the
    syntax for getting at the n-th item in a list is list[n], or in
    your sample phrases[n]

  • Getting list of items from one table indirectly associated with another

    I have a database containing 3 tables. One is a list of employees, one is a list of companies that are clients and another is the projects each employee is working on. The projects table is the only connection between the employee and the company. An employee is working on a project for a specific company. I need to find a list of companies someone is working for given the employee's ID. How would I do this? I've done direct queries before, but never anything that involves going through another table. I have an explanation of my tables below.
    Employee ------------- Project ----------- Company
    Name ------------------ Name --------------- Name
    ID -------------------> EmployeeID
    ------------------------ CompanyID ----------> ID

    I did something like this..It works for MS Access 2000 but not SQL Server 2000. (http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=48&thread=270102)
    What I have is one main table, joined to 3 other tables, and each one of them have one category in common, and they are in a many-to-one relationship with the main table.
    The Function category in the main table is the same as the Function_Name category in the others
    For ex)
    Main Table
    Function Description Context Actions Notes
    sample blah blah blah blah
    Table 1
    Function_Name ArgName ID
    sample x 1
    sample y 2
    Table 2
    Function_Name Return_Codes ID
    sample z 1
    sample m 2
    sample n 3
    Table 3
    Function_Name Function_Called ID
    sample t 1
    What i needed to do was retrieve all these records from the different tables if I only had the value to the Name field.
    This is the code I used:
    <code>
    String dataSourceName = "<fill in your dataSourceName>";
    String dbURL = "jdbc:odbc:" + dataSourceName;
    try{
    Class.forName("sun.jdbc.odbc.JdbcOdbcDriver");
    }catch (Exception e){System.out.println("Couldn't connect to driver.");}
    try{
    Connection con = DriverManager.getConnection(dbURL, "","");
    Statement stmt = con.createStatement();
    //gui3.staticName is the data in the Function or Function_Name Field
    ResultSet result = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT * FROM function_description WHERE (((Function)='"+ gui3.staticName + "'));");
    while(result.next()){
    function.setText(result.getString("Function"));
    description.setText(result.getString("Description"));
    notes.setText(result.getString("Notes"));
    actions.setText(result.getString("Actions"));
    context.setText(result.getString("Context"));
    ResultSet result2 = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT Return_Codes FROM return_code_description WHERE (((Function_Name)='"+ gui3.staticName + "')) ORDER BY Return_Codes ASC;");
    while(result2.next()){
    rCodes.addElement(result2.getString("Return_Codes"));
    ResultSet result3 = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT ArgName FROM Arg WHERE (((Function_Name)='"+ gui3.staticName + "')) ORDER BY ArgName ASC;");
    while(result3.next()){
    args.addElement(result3.getString("ArgName"));
    ResultSet result4 = stmt.executeQuery("SELECT Function_Called FROM Function_Called WHERE (((Function_Name) = '"+ gui3.staticName + "')) ORDER BY Function_Called ASC;");
    while (result4.next()){
    fcall.addElement(result4.getString("Function_Called"));
    }catch (SQLException e) {System.out.println(e.getMessage());}
    </code>
    So when you get the ID can't you Select the data from the products table that matches it, and then take the Name field for that and search for it in the Company table? I think you can do embedded search statements. another way would be
    Select <blah>
    while(result.next)
    Select <blah>
    hope this helps

  • Passing a list of URLs from Applescript to Display Webpages in Tabs Action

    Hi All,
    I have an Applescript to generate a bunch of URLs and I would like to pass them to the Display Webpages in Tabs action. • How to select multiple values from the parameters in BI Publisher report

    How to select multiple values from the parameter drop down in BI Publisher, and how to handle this mulitple values from the report sql...

    Hi kishore,
    I have used all the steps as you mentioned in your previous reply....including checking Mulitple Selection Check Box..
    Iam able to get the results when I am selecting one value..
    and also I am able to handle multiple values the in the query by using IN :Parameter, but seems when we select more than one value from the parameter drop down i think the Bi Publisher is sending the values in concatenated form something ilke
    ex: "'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'" ,and when trying to display the parameters values in the output, its throwing the error as 'missing right paranthesis' ....on the whole do you have any solution which would handle
    1.Single selection.
    2.Multiple selection.
    3.'ALL' Values.
    4.Separating the concatenated string into individual strings and dispaly them on the output of the report..etc..in case of Mulitple selection.
    Ex:
    Concatenated String from BI Publisher:"'ACCOUNT','HR','SALES'"
    Expected Output on the report:ACCOUNT,HR,SALES
    reply to this would be much appreciated....

  • Select multiple values from the parameters in BI Publisher report  Error

    In the database, I wrote a function to retrieve data to report:
    FUNCTION FN_TL002(cBDSID nvarchar2)
    RETURN SYS_REFCURSOR as
    TYPE t_cursor is REF CURSOR;
    v_cursor t_cursor;
    begin
    OPEN v_cursor FOR
    select Brach, txmonth, txdate, total from tl001
    where brach in (cBDSID)
    order by brach;
    RETURN v_cursor;
    end fn_tl002;
    In Bi Publisher:
    - I have a type parameter Option select multiple ( pBranch), LOV get data from database.
    * In Data model : TL001 name
    + SQL query : select FN_TL002(:pBranch) from dual
    if select a value not error, and then select two values of an error: ORA-06553: PLS-306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'FN_TL002'
    please help me!
    Thanks all!

    See my response in the thread Re: Multi selecting drop down in BI publisher 11g report
    The LOV is a Java array and your function needs to accept that array. To do this the data data type has to be a VARRAY Type.

  • Set listbox items from web service response

    Hi All
    I am trying to set list box items from a web service response. Couple of issues over here:
    1. The user should be able to select multiple items from the list. Hence if I set "Allow multiple values" and set Commit on "exit", then after the web service returns the output, no data is displayed in the listbox. I need to click inside the list box to see the data returned by the web service. How to overcome this..??  ( However this problem (clicking inside the listbox to see the items) does not exist if "Allow multiple values" is unchecked and Commit is set on "Select". )
    2. After the list box is filled up, certain default values should be selected. This selection is based on one of the response field (which is actually a table with multiple values... ). Hence, how to capture this response field and set the default values in the above list..??
    3. The same case for a dropdown. The values are visible in dropdown. However, a default value should be selected and displayed after returning a response from web service. Again, this default value is dependant on another field in the response as in point no.2
    I am trying to use postExecute event as described in [this|http://forms.stefcameron.com/2009/03/23/pre-process-web-service-responses/] link...however not able to achieve the functionality. Please provide suggestions / inputs.
    Thanks
    Deepak

    Hello,
    first: I don´t know anything about the right solution. I am unaware of the existence of the solution, because there were quite many of question about this multiple selection problem and I don´t remember a single "answer".
    I can recommend you to simplify everything and create the functionality yourself. I have done that before to avoid these "Adobe-standard" problems. If you have a problem with autofill of the object, ask your WS to send you a single string and pass it yourself using scripting (JS).
    And if you have problems with multiple selection, create your own field/ object. Get the string of values, parse it, create multiple lines of the dynamic table with some suitable tool to check/ select the rows you need (use checkbox for example, and your text as a table row). This way you can selected anything you want with no problems at all. It wil only cost you some extra work.

  • Difficulty in using a variable to pass a list of names between 2 tables

    Hi All,
    I am trying to pass a list of names from one table as a variable to another table and trying to find the Highest level they exist at in the hierarchy. I am having some troubles with the variable and need some guidence and also if this should be a procedure or not.
    this is what i have now :
    Variable man_name Varchar;
    exec :man_name = (Select full_name from direct_manager_report)
    UPDATE direct_manager_report
    Set Manager_level_number =
    (Select 'Manager_Level_0' from manager_hierarchy where level_0_manager_name = man_name
    UNION
    Select 'Manager_Level_1' from manager_hierarchy where level_0_manager_name < > man_name AND level_1_manager_name = man_name
    UNION
    Select 'Manager_Level_2' from manager_hierarchy where level_1_manager_name < > man_name AND level_2_manager_name = man_name
    UNION
    Select 'Manager_Level_3' from manager_hierarchy where level_2_manager_name < > man_name AND level_3_manager_name = man_name
    Where full_name = man_name;
    Let me know what modifications have to be done for this the variable to get the name from table 1 and find the manager level from table 2 and populate it back in table 1.
    Any help is appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi,Thanks for your reply. I am sorry for not providing enough information.
    What's wrong with what you have now? I want to pass the manager name (about 2000) from direct_manager_report to the variable which i pass to manager_hierarchy table to find the highest level for each manager
    If it doesn't give the right results, then how is anyone except you to know what the right results are?
    Variable man_name Varchar;
    exec :man_name = (Select full_name from direct_manager_report)Does that really work for you?No thats why i said this is what i have and i am trying to see the best to past the list of manager names to get the level number.
    UPDATE direct_manager_report
    Set Manager_level_number =
    (Select 'Manager_Level_0' from manager_hierarchy where level_0_manager_name = man_name
    UNION
    Select 'Manager_Level_1' from manager_hierarchy where level_0_manager_name < > man_name AND level_1_manager_name = man_nameIt looks like something is missing on the line above. Did you mean "level_0_manager_name != man_name"?
    This site doesn't like to display the &lt;&gt; inequality operator. Always use the other (equivalent) inequality operator, !-, when posting here.
    Where full_name = man_name;Are you sure the UNION will never return more than 1 row?
    Let me know what modifications have to be done for this the variable to get the name from table 1 and find the manager level from table 2 and populate it back in table 1.Whenever you have a problem, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements) and the results you want from that data (in this case, the contents of table1 after everything is finished).
    See the forum FAQ {message:id=9360002}Sorry did not realize the missing !. Yes the union will always return one record for each manager name passed. I have tested the select part which hard coding the manager name and it does update the level number correctly. but i am struggling with passing a large list of values as a variable.
    This is the output i am looking for in the direct manager report table is :
    Manager Name | Manager Level Number
    ABC Manager Level 0
    XYZ Manager Level 1
    This is the structure of the manager hierarchy:
    Manager Level 0 Manager Level 1 Manager Level 2...Manager Level 14
    ABC ABC ABC ABC
    ABC XYZ XYZ XYZ
    Let me try the below but hopefully i am more clear on the requirement now.

  • Sort list of items.

    I have a "problem"
    When using a local variable LabVIEW has a list of items from which one may
    choose.
    When this is list is growing it is sometimes difficult to find the right
    item.
    Is it possible to sort these items?

    Items in a cluster can be reordered by clicking "Reorder controls in
    cluster..." in its context menu.
    Items in a vi's pannel can be reordered by going into "Edit" \ "Set
    tabbing order..." in its menu.
