Passing Variable back to batch script
I need to pass the result of a sql script back to the calling batch script. How would I do this? This is what I have tried
Batch Script
return_code = 'sqlplus loginname/pass@database path/sqlscript.sql'
echo $return_code
sqlscript
Declare
v_locked varchar2(1);
Begin
SELECT locked into v_locked FROM program_lock
WHERE program = 'xxx';
end;
exit v_locked;
I already tried the option you suggested.
This is what I have in my dynamic script:
PROMPT(SELECT,PR_CTR,,"Select the Profit Center","%ENTITY_DIM%")
INFO(EQU,=)
INFO(TAB,;)
TASK(ZBPC_REVAL_SCRIPT_RUN,SUSER,%USER%)
TASK(ZBPC_REVAL_SCRIPT_RUN,SAPPSET,%APPSET%)
TASK(ZBPC_REVAL_SCRIPT_RUN,SAPP,%APP%)
TASK(ZBPC_REVAL_SCRIPT_RUN,LOGICFILENAME,COPY_ACTUALS.LGX)
TASK(ZBPC_REVAL_SCRIPT_RUN,REPLACEPARAM,PR_CTR%EQU%%PR_CTR%)
This is what I have in script logic
*SELECT(%CURRENT_CYCLE%, "[ID]", "PLAN_CYCLE", "[COMPARISON] ='CURRENT' ")
*XDIM_MEMBERSET ACCOUNT=BPC711000
*XDIM_MEMBERSET CURRENCY=LC
*XDIM_MEMBERSET DATASOURCE=ACTUALS
*XDIM_MEMBERSET EMPLOYEE=BAS(<ALL>)
*XDIM_MEMBERSET TIME=BAS(2010.TOTAL)
*XDIM_MEMBERSET PLAN_CYCLE=%CURRENT_CYCLE%
*XDIM_MEMBERSET PROFIT_CTR=$PR_CTR$
*START_BADI FILTER_PLAN
QUERY = ON
WRITE = ON
*END_BADI
When I run the DM Package I get the error Memebr :$PR_CTR$ not exist

Error produced when trying to pass variables to a Matlab script
For some reason, LabVIEW produces an Error 1047 (Unable to pass variable to the script server) whenever I create an input variable to a Matlab code block.
Outputs work fine (for example, connecting an output "a" to a Matlab code block that says "a=rand(50)" correctly produces a 50x50 array of random numbers that can be displayed in LabVIEW). However, creating any kind of input node, whether or not the associated variable is mentioned in the MATLAB script, brings up an error 1047.
Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm using LabVIEW 7.0 and MATLAB 7 (R14). I've read the article
>here and that's not the problem, and I've also updated my matscript.dll to the latest version, 7.0.0.2, which also made no difference.For what its worth,
I work in a company with a lot of Matlab users, and I,m programming in Labview and Matlab.
When I create a testrig measurement I always have to convert data into Malab format, so I used the script server a lot... exept we have a limited pool of Matlab
licenses so my work was halted whenever the licences where gone.
So I wrote a Write2Matlab vi.
This vi can log data from a measurement and write it in a Matlab readable file format (Matlab6 R12).
After logging you can append more data. It works with(Double,Single,Int32,Int16,U16,U8,String) matrix see for yourself in an example (Write2matlab_test.vi).
Perhaps this is an alternative solution for your problem.
Please send me a reply if you find it usefull.

Passing variables to a SQL script within GC
Does anyone know if it is possible to pass in a variable to a SQL script job within Grid Control? I don't see that I can but I wanted to ask a larger group before cloing the loop on this.
For example, I have a few different databases which contain schemas which contain date-range daily partitioned tables. I have a single code block which normally accepts the table_owner as a variable then loops through to analyze the current day partition. I'd love for OEM to be able to have the job submitted to different database targets whilst passing in a different schema name.
Thank you in advance!This can be done in two steps, but first create a table containing 1 field in all the target databases (something like table_owner) you want to analyze. Before running the analyze script change in all the to be analyzed databases the table_owner (as a job?). Then run the analyze script that contains a statement that first reads the table_owner and use this table_owner as the variable you want.
Even more simple would be to use a database link from the to be analyzed db's to a central db so you only have to change the table_owner in one table.

I am using a Data Flow and an OLE DB Source to read my staged 3rd party external data. I need to do various Lookups to try and determine if I can find the external person in our database...by SSN...By Name and DOB...etc...
Now I need to do some more data verification based on the Lookup that is successful. Can I do those data edits against our SQL server application database by utilizing an OLE DB Command? Using a Stored Procedure or can I sue straight SQL to perform my edit
against every staging row by using a parameter driven query? I'm thinking a Stored Procedure is the way to go here since I have multiple edits against the database. Can I pass back the result of those edits via a variable and then continue my SSIS Data Flow
by analyzing the result of my Stored Procedure? And how would I do that.
I am new to the SSIS game here so please be kind and as explicit as possible. If you know of any good web sites that walk through how to perform SQL server database edits against external data in SSIS or even a YouTube, please let me know.
Thanks!Thanks for that...but can I do multiple edits in my Stored Procedure Vaibhav and pass back something that I can then utilize in my SSIS? For example...
One and Only one Member Span...so I'd be doing a SELECT COUNT(*) based on my match criteria or handle the count accordingly in my Stored Procedure and passing something back via the OLE DB Command and handling it appropriately in SSIS
Are there "Diabetes" claims...again probably by analyzing a SELECT COUNT(*)
Am I expecting too much from the SSIS...should I be doing all of this in a Stored Procedure? I was hoping to use the SSIS GUI for everything but maybe that's just not possible. Rather use the Stored Procedure to analyze my stged data, edit accordingly, do
data stores accordingly...especially the data anomalies...and then use the SSIS to control navigation
Your thoughts........
Could you maybe clarify the difference between an OLE DB Command on the Data Flow and the Execute SQL Task on the Control Flow...
You can get return values from oledb comand if you want to pipeline.
see this link for more details
http://josef-richberg.squarespace.com/journal/2011/6/30/ssis-oledb-command-and-procedure-output-params.html
The procedure should have an output parameter defined for that
I belive if you've flexibility of using stored procedure you may be better off doing this in execute sql task in control flow. Calling sp in data flow will cause it to execute sp once for each row in dataset whereas in controlflow it will go for set based
processing

Passing variables to a shell script
Hello all,
I have an applescript that is passing two variables to a shell script. Both variables are being passed, but the script isn't running as I would expect and I can't figure out what it's doing and why.
Here is the applescript:
delay 5
tell me to activate
display dialog "Please enter the following information."
property RoomNumber : ""
display dialog "Enter the room number and building (ie 1312CAC):" default answer RoomNumber
set the RoomNumber to text returned of the result
property StationNumber : ""
display dialog "Enter the Station Number:" default answer StationNumber
set the StationNumber to text returned of the result
do shell script ("echo " & RoomNumber & StationNumber & " | /Users/labadmin/Desktop/labbuild.sh")
and here is the shell script
#!/bin/sh
RoomNumber="$1"
StationNumber="$2"
compname=($RoomNumber$StationNumber)
scutil --set ComputerName $compname
scutil --set LocalHostName $compname
scutil --set HostName $compname
echo "Done setting the computer name"
The only name it sets is the ComputerName. LocalHost is blank and hostname is set to Localhost
Can someone see what I'm doing wrong here?
Thank you in advanced.The line
do shell script ("echo " & RoomNumber & StationNumber & " | /Users/labadmin/Desktop/labbuild.sh")
should be
do shell script ("/Users/labadmin/Desktop/labbuild.sh " & quoted form of RoomNumber & " " & quoted form of StationNumber)
In your original code, you are using echo to pass the variables to stdin of the script instead of as command-line parameters. You also don't handle the case where a value is left blank. -
Problem in picking the system variable value in Calculation Script
Hi All,
We are using a Calculation Script to perform data export. And the target location where to crete the exported output file is given to the environment system variable.
Now I am using this system variable in the calculation script as below:
//ESS_LOCALE English_UnitedStates.Latin1@Binary
SET DATAEXPORTOPTIONS
DataExportLevel "ALL";
DataExportOverwriteFile ON;
Fix ( &CurrMiles, &CurrProj, &CurrVer,"No Project","No Version")
DATAEXPORT "File" " " $DEXPORTPATH;
ENDFIX
Here "DEXPORTPATH" is the system variable
I am creating this system variable from the batch script and the system variable value varies at the runtime.
This calculation script works fine for first time and it picks the correct value from the system variable.
But the problem occurs from next execution of calc script. Even if i update the system variable with other value, it picks only the last execution system variable value and it performs execution.
Eg: Suppose for first execution system variable value is "D:\Bkup\PMV.txt"
The calc script works fine with this.
For next execution, system variable value is changed to "D:\Time\temp.txt"
Now the calc script picks the system variable value as "D:\Bkup\PMV.txt"
and performs execution which is wrong.
Please help me on this issue how to handle system variables in calc scripts.
Thanks in advance

SwathiAs of my knowledge system variables will not update immediately...you need to log off the session after changing the value.
Update the system variable..
Log off from the session..
And Re-login with the same username ....and check...

Is it possible to pass a variable from a shell script back to an Automator action?
Is it possible to pass a variable from a shell script back to an Automator action?
For instance, if I assign a value of foo to $var1 in my shell script how would I retrieve/pass that value in the next Automator action. I see that there is a variable called "Shell Script" but I can't any information on how to use it.red_menace,
Thanks but I still don't understand how to pass a single value that was set in the UNIX scipt back to Automator has a variable. Take the example below, I write 4 varables to STDOUT and all 4 are stored in a variable named "storage". How do I assign 1 of these values to the Automator "storage" variable? For instance if I wanted to assign the value of $var2 to "storage" , how would I do that? -
LMS 3.1 Syslog Automated Action - How to pass variables to script?
I would like to pass variables to a windows bat file for processing. The help seems to suggest that there are 2 available, device and message. I would like to know how to reference them and what syntax to use to pass them to the batch file. Are Facility, Sub-facility, Severity, Mnemonic and Description also availble? If so, how would they be referenced? Thanks in advance.
The syntax for referencing these variables is discussed in the online help. Essentially, you'll want to use %~1 and %~2 in your batch script to get the device and message respectively. The message will be the full message, so you will need to do additional processing on that to extract the facility, severity, and mnemonic.

Passing variables from shell script to separate sqlplus script
Hi, I am having issues passing variables to a separate sqlplus script invoked by the shell script, e.g.
#!/bin/sh
DB_NAME=TEST
PWD1=PA55W0rd
echo exit | sqlplus / as sysdba @${DB_NAME}.sql ${DB_NAME} $PWD1 >> ${DB_NAME}.sql
exit 0
The script picks up the $DB_NAME variable fine, and therefore invokes the required sql script.
However, when I pass the variable $PWD1 to the sql script I get an error.
The script creates a database link:
create or replace procedure new.link
is
begin
execute immediate 'create database link TEST
connect to TESTSCH identified by '$PWD1'
using ''TEST''';
end;
exec new.link;
output is:
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00911: invalid character
ORA-06512: at "NEW.LINK", line 4
ORA-06512: at line 1
any help appreciated!

SQL*Plus passes the arguments to the script as if executing the file using the SQL*Plus START command. If no file suffix (file extension) is specified, the suffix defined by the SET SUFFIX command is used. The default suffix is .sql.
See the START command for more information.

Data items you wish to pass to parameters in the script. If you enter one or more arguments, SQL*Plus substitutes the values into the parameters (&1, &2, and so forth) in the script. The first argument replaces each occurrence of &1, the second replaces each occurrence of &2, and so on.
>
... clearly explaining that SQL*Plus substitutes the substitution variables &1, &2 etc. in the script with the passed in arguments.
Your script was including a Unix style substitution, not an SQL*Plus script substitution, so that's seems to be the most likely cause of your problem.
And still you haven't come back to say whether it's worked for you or not... leaving others guessing as to whether you still need help. -
Pass Passord Variable to a Batch File using Execute Process Task
I have an FTP batch file that I want to execute using Execute Process Task. The content of the ftp (ftpscript.cmd) is as below:
open ftpsite
UserName
Password
ASCII
get file c:\temp\test.txt
bye
Using SSIS Execute process task, I was able to download data. I configured the Execute Process task as follows:
Executable: ftp.exe
Arguments: -s:"c:\temp\ftpscript.cmd"
The above works fine. But the problem is that I don't want to store the password value in the batch file for security/policy reasons. Please, is there a way I can pass the password value to the ftp executable or the batch file at run time?
I know how to get and store variables in SSIS but I don't know how to pass this kind of variable to the batch file just before execution.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks.you can dynamically generate the source (CMD) for the FTP and delete after the execution. The password can be stored in a secure database for example, not 100 % secure, but the best you can do.
Another option I did was an encrypted VBScript (also quite easy to open in plain text to some people).
Finally it can be a binary e.g. an EXE with the FTP called as process in it.

Passing variables from DM to logic script problem (REPLACEPARAM)
Dear All,
I would like to send variables from data manager to a logic script. The script copies values from an account to an other. If I hardcode two accounts in the script, it works fine, but I want to pass these two accounts dynamically from data manager to the script.
My advanced script in DM looks as follows:
PROMPT(SELECTINPUT,%ENTITY_M%,,"Select entity:","ENTITY_DIM")
PROMPT(SELECTINPUT,%SOURCE%,,"Select source account:","ACCOUNT_DIM")
PROMPT(SELECTINPUT,%TARGET%,,"Select target account:","ACCOUNT_DIM")
INFO(%EQU%,=)
INFO(%TAB%,;)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,TAB,%TAB%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,EQU,%EQU%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SUSER,%USER%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPPSET,%APPSET%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPP,%APP%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SELECTION,%ENTITY_M%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,LOGICFILENAME,ACCOUNT_COPY_LOGIC.LGF)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,MEMBERSELECTION,SOURCE%EQU%%SOURCE%%TAB% TARGET%EQU%%TARGET%)
In the logic script, I'm using $SOURCE$ and $TARGET$ as variables, but it seems that only the first of them gets the value from DM, the other one not, and I always get an error message:
Member "$TARGET$" not exist
The second variable doesn't seem to get the value. If I use only one variable, either SOURCE or TARGET, it works fine...
...and I also tried to replace the MEMBERSELECTION statement with a REPLACEPARAM statement:
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,REPLACEPARAM,SOURCE%EQU%%SOURCE%%TAB% TARGET%EQU%%TARGET%)
This way I got an other error message, saying: "Member .../PrivatePublications/user not exist"
Do you have any idea? How to pass two user selected parameters to a logic script?
Thanks for your help,
A.Hi CsernusAttila
You cannot use ACCOUNT_DIM with promp SELECT and variable $SOURCE$ because it only works with variable ACCOUNT_SET in your script logic.
instead of you can use TEXT
PROMPT(TEXT,%,ENTITY_M%%,"Select Entity",)
PROMPT(TEXT,%,SOURCE%%,"Select Source",)
PROMPT(TEXT,%,TARGET%%,"Select Target",)
INFO(%EQU%,=)
INFO(%TAB%,;)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,TAB,%TAB%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,EQU,%EQU%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SUSER,%USER%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPPSET,%APPSET%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPP,%APP%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SELECTION,%SELECTION%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,LOGICFILENAME,ACCOUNT_COPY_LOGIC.LGF)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,REPLACEPARAM,SOURCE%EQU%%SOURCE%%TAB% TARGET%EQU%%TARGET%)
or you can modify your script like this
*XDIM_MEMBERSET ACCOUNT=%ACCOUNT_SET%
*XDIM_MEMBERSET ENTITY=%ENTITY_SET%
And your Prompt like this
PROMPT(SELECTINPUT,,,,"%ACCOUNT_DIM%,%ENTITY_DIM%,")
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,TAB,%TAB%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,EQU,%EQU%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SUSER,%USER%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPPSET,%APPSET%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SAPP,%APP%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,SELECTION,%SELECTION%)
TASK(PROCESS_CHAIN_RUNL,LOGICFILENAME,ACCOUNT_COPY_LOGIC.LGF
I hope it helps

How to pass variable to SQLPLUS in a ksh script?
Hi,
I am writing a ksh script which will use sqlplus to run a sql and pass 2 variables as the SQL request. In the ksh script, I have 2 variables which are $min_snap and $max_snap holding 2 different numbers.
Inside the same script, I am using SQLPLUS to run an Oracle SQL script, which request to enter 2 set of numbers, one at a time. Have you ever used statspack? or sppurge.sql?
When you run $ORACLE_HOME/rdbms/admin/sppurge.sql, it waits for user to enter losnapid and hisnapid manually from the keyboard.
My trouble is to have a script to delete old snapshot which are 3 weeks old. So I create min_snapid.sql and max_snapid.sql to hold two variables.
Based on your solution, I tried it but it doesn't work.
It returns the error messages as following....

Pass variables to child via C# script task ?
I don't want to use package configurations to pass variables from Parent to child package. I'd prefer to pass the variables to child, from a C# script task in the parent package. Can this be done ? Here is the pseudocode for what I hope to do -
//code in script task of parent package
Main(){
Object parentObj = SSIS.ParentPackage.myObject;
String parentStr = SSIS.ParentPackage.myString;
callChildPackage(parentObj, parentStr);You have four choices for this:
Use Parent-Child variable configurations
Place the value in a variable in the parent package, which can be referenced from the child package, when run with an Execute Package Task. (http://agilebi.com/jwelch/2009/10/03/passing-an-object-from-a-parent-package-to-a-child)
Take over the execution of the child package entirely executing the package from inside your C# script task.
Use something like the Task Factory Advanced Execute Package task. (Full Disclosure: I work for Pragmatic Works)
Item 3 is probably closest to what you want. You'd need to use the Package.Execute method to run the child package yourself. The advantage of doing that is you can set child package variables explicitly before executing the package.

How to run Outlook Rule that fires a batch script that requires passing parameters.
How do I pass arguments/parameters to a batch script in an Outlook rule ? The Parameters would be located in the body of the message.
Thanks.Hi,
If the two arguments are always next to each other, then we can simply add that single phrase to the “specific words” list.
If the two arguments are not always next to each other, then there is no way in Outlook to do this with a single rule but we can achieve this by creating 2 rules. See:
