Password rejected by by Application Express
I am a newbie in programming. I downloaded the oracle application express 11g release. I did install it and used it to practice until I logged out. When I came back, I couldn't login using my known credentials. After much battling, I reinstalled it, this time creating a new workspace and new credentials but still to no avail, it still rejected my password. Below is the message it gave.
Enter Application Express workspace and credentials
"Invalid Login Credentials"
Pls what could be wrong?
Zion
Huh, here's how I see it.
You downloaded and installed Oracle 11g XE database and used to use it by navigating to http://127.0.0.1:8080
Then you downloaded and installed (actually, upgraded) Application Express. As far as I can tell, once you did that, a fancy and good looking Oracle 11 XE homepage is no longer available. That's too bad, but - that's the way it is.
Now you can practice your Apex skills (as most of us do; you asked "why an I mentioning Apex"? Well, this IS an Apex forum, after all). You can practice your (PL/)SQL skills as well, but not as you used to. I'd suggest you to use SQL*Plus (it is a command line tool). If you don't like typing and prefer GUI, download and install (free) SQL Developer (from the OTN site), or any other GUI tool (most of which are not free). You might even use Application Express' SQL Workshop, if you wish.
Now, if I got it wrong, I'm afraid I can't do much about it ... hopefully, someone else will know better.

How to disable password complexity rules at application express 4.2 installation?
Please, provide me how to disable password complexity rules at application express 4.2 installation.
Best Regards,
MoustafaAccording to the manual you need to check "Configuring Password Protection" in Oracle Database Security Guide
In the security guide http://docs.oracle.com/cd/B28359_01/network.111/b28531.pdf, section 3-9/p61, you'll see you need to alter the script UTLPWDMG.SQL. You''l find the script in ORA_HOME/rdbms/admin.
You'll need to change the script to your own liking. -
Oracle 11g XE Application Express - Retrieve or reset password
I cannot remember my password to access an existing database in Application Express. I tried entering my password 3 times, but the system does not provide a status other than 'Invalid Login Credentials'. I am going to assume that 3 times is limit before you have to reset the password or from what I see reinstall. When selecting reset, the system asks for an email address that was never established in the system. How can I reset my password without uninstalling and reinstalling Oracle 11g XE?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.Hi,
You can login with ADMIN user to INTERNAL workspace and manage all workspace users and change passwords.

Application Express password expiration
I am new to application express and doing some testing and I noticed that my developer/administrator account keeps on expireing. So you if navagate to the account control: account availiablility is unlocked, but the developer/administrator password is expired.
Not sure why this keeps on happening? I have logged into everywhere I can think of, read about, everything says either disabled or No, such as the user account expiration and locking, account locking, etc....
This is happening with several other accounts I have created as well...
any insight. ThanksTook me a bit to track it down.
Log in to the APEX Admin site.
Go to Manage Service
Go to Security
Scroll down until you see Account Login Control. Here you can set the password retention (in days), retries before account lockout, and whether or not to require a retention policy. -
Can not login to Oracle Application Express after upgrade to 3.2
I installed oracle database express and then I upgrade APEX to 3.2 on it. I got the login page but I can not login by using any account, like SYS, SYSTEM. From the document, internal ADMIN account should exist but I did not see it from dba_users table.
Thanks,
JulieHI Don,
I did run apxchpwd.sql to change the Application Express ADMIN user password. Then I invoked http://mymachine:8080/apex and got the Application Express login page. I put ADMIN in workspace and ADMIN in Username and the new password. But I still cannot login. I also tried http://mymachine:8080/apex/apex_admin page login. I typed ADMIN as username and the new password. Then I clicked on Login button. Nothing happened. No error message.
Any idea?
By the way, what does apxxepwd.sql do?
Thanks,

Upgrading Application Express on Oracle XE (installed on Ubuntu 8.04)
I'd installed on my laptop (OP is Ubuntu 8.04) Oracle XE and is wotking quite fine.
But I really like to upgrade apex to last version (3.1.2). I read documentation but are not many information about how to upgrade.
DanielThanks Arie,
On whatever version of Windows I've updated without problems Application Express.
I'm talking here about Ubuntu (a debian distribution of Linux).
My problem is where to unzip apex, where to use sqlplus command prompt etc., because is different than Windows.
If you don't have DBA rights on the account (user account other than root) you have errors in installation process and more.
For example they say in doc...:0
"To run the apxconf.sql configuration script:
1. Change your working directory to ORACLE_BASE\ORACLE_HOME\apex or whatever convention used to indicate the Oracle home.
2. Start SQL*Plus and connect to the database where Oracle Application Express is installed as SYS. For example:
* On Windows:
SYSTEM_DRIVE:\ sqlplus /nolog
SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
Enter password: SYS_password
* On UNIX and Linux:
$ sqlplus /nolog
SQL> CONNECT SYS as SYSDBA
Enter password: SYS_password".....
When you install Oracle what version you need, OP (Linux) create a different user account for Oracle. Usually if you want to use your account like dba for oracle, you need to give to that account the proper rights.
So, I need a installation rutine (for upgrading) for apex on Linux. -
Problem with logon in to Application Express
I have successfully installed oracle Application Express
When I logged in to Oracle Application Express Administration Services for the first time he asked me to change password.
After I changed the password I can't log in to the application any more with the new password .
When I enter the user name and the new password no action happen,
Although when I enter any wrong password, a message with Invalid Login Credentials appear
User Name: admin
Old password: password
New password: oracle
ThanxHi Scott
Same results in both IE and FF?
I have only IE
Do you have cookies enabled in the browser?
Yes cookies are enabled in the browser
Does the login page have only two text fields , username and password?
Yes
When you say "no action happen" does that mean you just see the login page all the time or do you see a blank page or something else?
Yes I just see the login page all the time
Thanx -
Need help on installing Oracle Application express 3.2
Hi,
I had downloaded Oracle 11g database and installed the personal edition.I got the Enterprise manager login page working and also the DBConsole
I had Downloaded APEX 3.2 and wanted to install apex 3.2.I wanted to do the following scenario
Scenario 3: Install from the Database and Configure the Embedded PL/SQL
Gateway
Planning to do these steps: ( I have few questions on these steps and are below each step)
■ Running the apxconf.sql Configuration Script
Do I have to install Oracle Application express or is it already installed in 11g personal edition?
Do I have to create a seperate database or schema for this step( I have only one instance orcl1) ?■ Verifying the Oracle XML DB HTTP Server Port
Can I do this step in my current orcl1 instance,if so which user■ Enabling Oracle XML DB HTTP Server
Once I carry out these steps, Can I access the admin page for apex with https://localhost:port/apex_admin ?
Am I missing any other steps ?
ThanksI have one idea..
Try to install again:
1) download and unzip apex_3.2 in $ORACLE_HOME
You will have:
$ORACLE_HOME/apex - old directory
$ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2 - new directory
2) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
in sqlplus run @apexins tablespace_apex tablespace_files tablespace_temp images
Where:
tablespace_apex is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express application user.
tablespace_files is the name of the tablespace for the Oracle Application Express files user.
tablespace_temp is the name of the temporary tablespace.
images is the virtual directory for Oracle Application Express images. To support future Oracle Application Express upgrades, define the virtual image directory as /i/.
Example:
@apexins SYSAUX SYSAUX TEMP /i/
3) check installation log for errors
4) in command line go to $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2/apex
run sqlplus "/as sysdba"
in sqlplus run @apxconf
set admin password
set port
5) run @apxldimg.sql $ORACLE_HOME/apex_3.2
6) check for running listener and try to login apex: http:\\host:port\apex\apex_admin
Good luck! -
Application Express Install - Login and images don't work
I followed the instructions (as best I understood them) to install Apex on my database, and then setup an Oracle HTTP server to work with it.
The problems I have are:
When i goto the "first" page, which for me is: http://tomcatvs01.traxusers.com:7777/pls/apex/apex_admin
1. The "Application Express" image at the top doesn't come out, which indicates to me the images weren't setup correctly, despite my best efforts.
2. I'm not sure what my "username" should be. I remember specifying a desired password when I ran the sql to install the Apex on the database, but I don't remember specifying a username. I assume it is: APEX_PUBLIC_USER
3. The big problem... whatever Username/password I use, "nothing" happens when I click the "Login" button. With MSIE, it shows the exclamation "error on page." icon on lower left side when I click "Login", which details show this error message:
Line: 1
Char: 1
Error: Object expected
Code: 0
URL: My URL given above, but mixed with what appears to be the session ID, which is the same URL that i'm taken to when I goto the page in the first place.
It doesn't work with FireFox either, and I've tried the client/browser from multiple machines.
Advice appreciated.
My setup is to use an Oracle 10g release 02 database.
I installed Oracle HTTP server from the Companion CD on another machine, which already had an Oracle home/client of it's own.
I then installed APEX sql on the database (i first ran the webtoolkit sql) .
On the machine I put the HTTP server on, I copied the apex images to: E:\oracleHTTP\product\10.2.0\db\Apache\Apache\images
And I configured my dads.conf file (in E:\oracleHTTP\product\10.2.0\db\Apache\modplsql\conf) as such:
# ============================================================================
# mod_plsql DAD Configuration File
# ============================================================================
# 1. Please refer to dads.README for a description of this file
# ============================================================================
# Note: This file should typically be included in your plsql.conf file with
# the "include" directive.
# Hint: You can look at some sample DADs in the dads.README file
# ============================================================================

</Location>OKay, I kept reading other people's posts and I found the main culprit of my problems. I needed to add a forward-slash to my images directory specification in my dads.conf file. Now my images come out, and my login button "works".
However, I still can't login because i don't know the username (at least now it tells me the credentials are not correct!)
What is the username? I remember when running the @apexins SQL, i specified the password. But I don't remember every specifying a username, I even reviewed the instructions and couldn't find where I might have defined that. Please help! Can i extract it from one of the tables that was created? If so, I'd appreciate pointers as to which one exactly. -
Problem Accessing Application Express
Hi All,
I have installed Oracle 11g and Apex 3.2.
After that I tried to access apex admin console using url: http://server:8080/apex/apex_admin
If I try to open the page with IE and when used id : admin and its password is entered and pressed login, an error "Object expected, code 0" is generated.
With Firefox I can see more detail error "doSubmit is not defined.
Please help.
Regards
RanaHey I'm having the same problem, but I may be a little confused.
I had 11g installed with Apex 3.0 so I upgraded it to 3.2.1 by using the complete installation. So when the install guide says "Run apex_epg_config.sql passing the file system path to the base directory where the Oracle Application Express software was unzipped", I should point to the Oracle home location where my db is installed...right?
Assuming this is correct, I ran the script but the apex/images folder is still missing the apex_..._.js files mentioned before. All the image files are there but when I try to login nothing happens. Are those js files supposed to be there? Any ideas? -
I created a database using Application Express and can not recall my password. I am able to log in as an Admin; however the system will not allow me to reset the user's password because an email address is not available in the system. Can anyone tell me how to add a user's email address so that I can reset the user's password?
I also need to know how what is the difference between 'Take a full database backup vs Backup database'? I performed a backup a couple of days ago, but I need to simulate a database failure and prior to doing so, I need to backup the database so that I can see the changes.
Thank you.Did you try to update the user's email address? After you update it, you can then reset the password.
Go to Administration > Manage Users and Groups > Edit user (by clicking the pencil icon under Edit column) > Enter Email Address and click the [Apply Changes]

Uable to see link 'Managing Application Express Users'
When I login to admin page for the workspace, I can only see 'Monitor Activity ' 'Change Password ' and 'About Application Express ' links not other two mentioned below. Am I missing something here. Please help
About Administration
An Administration list appears on the right side of the Workspace home page. Use the following links to administer your application development environment:
Administration links to the Application Administration page. Use this page to perform administrative tasks. See "About the Application Administration Page" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
Manage Services links to the Manage Services page. Use this page to manage session state, log files, preferences, and application models. See "About the Manage Services Page" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
Manage Application Express Users links to the Existing Users page. Use this page to manage existing Application Express users and user groups. See "Managing Application Express Users" and "Using Groups to Manage Application Express Users" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
Monitor Activity links to the Monitor Activity page. Use this page to monitor page views and view application changes. See "Monitoring Activity within a Workspace" in "Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
Change Password links to the Change Password page. Use this page to change your workspace password. See "Resetting Your Password" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
About Application Express links to the About Application Express page. This page displays version and configuration information for both Application Express and the Oracle database. See "Viewing the Application Express Product Information Page" in Oracle Application Express Administration Guide.
About MigrationsUser,
What is your name?
It sounds like you've been configured as a developer, not a workspace administrator. You'll need to talk to the person that created your account.

Importing components to Application Express
When trying to import a component export into Application Express with same app Id and workspace I have problems when I get to the report layouts and report queries.
I get this for some, not all of the report layouts:
Component Export: REPORT LAYOUT 30423319886223781
...report layouts
WWV_FLOW_API.ERR_REPORT_LAYOUT_CREATE ORA-00001: unique constraint
(APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_REPORT_LAYOUTS_IDX2) violated
but the import continues until it gets to the report queries, I get through 5 and then this:
Component Export: SHARED QUERY 25478002913036435
...shared queries
declare
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00001: unique constraint (APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_STORED_QUERIES_UK1) violated
ORA-06512: at "APEX_030200.WWV_FLOW_API", line 6261
ORA-06512: at line 32
then it stops and quits...
Why am I getting this on only certain report layouts and queries??Hi,
I think you are posting to wrong forum. Virtualization Discussion Forum is here.
Oracle VM Server for x86
Anyway,
There is by default obe workspace. User and password for that workspace is obe
If you need login to APEX administration, then use apxchpwd.sql from oracle user home folder to reset INTERNAL workspace ADMIN user password.

Database security with PUBLIC EXECUTE privileges for Application Express
I recently tried installing APEX into an existing database containing a data warehouse. Security on this database is quite controlled and PUBLIC EXECUTE to SYS owned objects had been removed. Ie there was no PUBLIC EXECUTE on:
DBMS_LOB
UTL_HTTP
UTL_FILE
UTL_SMTP
UTL_RAW.
When I tried to install APEX, I got all kinds of errors and logged a TAR. The analyst told me to grant execute to public to the above SYS owned objects. This contradicts the "Policies" in 10G Grid control and the Metalink Notes 131752.1 &
Note:247093.1.
Can these execute privileges be changed to another user in the htmlDB
application such as FLOWS_FILES? Or HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER? What is the security reccomendations for Oracle Application Express? Calling any product managers out there....Developers/users have started clicking around and are now getting errors. There is a function called CUSTOM_AUTH and one called CUSTOM_HASH which do not compile. They have complain about not seeing UTL_RAW so had been relying on PUBLIC synonyms. here's the 1 function:
create or replace function custom_hash (p_username in varchar2, p_password in varchar2)
return varchar2
is
l_password varchar2(4000);
l_salt varchar2(4000) := '2ZVKZMILYMGVFRFXOZIVZ72RJNJY8V';
begin
-- This function should be wrapped, as the hash algorhythm is exposed here.
-- You can change the value of l_salt or the method of which to call the
-- DBMS_OBFUSCATOIN toolkit, but you much reset all of your passwords
-- if you choose to do this.
l_password := utl_raw.cast_to_raw(dbms_obfuscation_toolkit.md5
(input_string => p_password || substr(l_salt,10,13) || p_username ||
substr(l_salt, 4,10)));
return l_password;

Application Express and Single Sign on
Has anyone got Application Express/HTMLDB to interface with a Single Sign on login screen, which is an external app, verify the user and password and proceed to the HTMLDB app?
Any suggestions on session management?
Thanks.Scott,
I tried to search the same topic but unable to find any relevant thread. My requirement is also same. I want to implement single sign on on my htmldb application with an external system which maintains the user credentials and authenticate it.
Could you please refer to any thread which discussed on the same topic?
Thanks in advance,
AM
