Pay for Quantum Router?

I currently have FIOS 35/35.  If I upgrade to FIOS quantum 50/50 (at $10/month additional) I have to buy a router for $200???  I thought the routers were supplied by Verizon.....I don't recall paying for my current router.  Can I upgrade to quantum and keep my current router?

Welcome to the forums.  You're talking to other customers here.  Your question is best answered by Verizon.  To reach them, you need to call or chat with them.  You could also use the VZ Direct forum over on DSLreports.com. Verizon now rents or sells routers.  They no longer give them away.  This started about a year or so ago.  Sometimes they are available at a discounted price with an upgrade to higher speed tiers.  Sometimes not.  You'll need to contact them to find out what offers are available to you. If you got an Actiontec years ago it is possible that Verizon considers it yours.  I purchased a Quantum router to replace my Actiontec during a sale last winter.  I got different stories when about my Actiontec when I contacted Verizon by phone.  The folks at the VZ Direct forum were the most helpful; they looked up my account and confirmed that I owned the Actiontec.  I suggest you ask there rather than the phone or chat reps. The Actiontec Rev I ("Advanced Gigabit router" with the red band) is perfectly capable of handling speeds well above 50/50. If you have one of these models and don't care about dual-band or guest WiFi, you don't need to get a Quantum router. Good Luck.

  • Deleted my messages during iOS update - how can I recover them without paying for apps/ software (already sync'd after losing them though)?

I updated my iOS, and when I was typing out a message to someone via imessage (as it forced it on) and I deleted the last one I sent (definitely not delete all, I didn't 'fat finger' it either) but for some reason it deleted the whole entire message trail, which had a couple of years of messages in it, some of which I wanted to keep - annoyed feeling commenced!!
I've since figured out how to totally turn off imessage as I hate how it looks/ feels, and have reverted to SMS messages, but have lost all of my old messages to that one person.
I've used a 3rd party bit of software and it found all the messages for me, but I have to pay for them to restore them and I'm not paying what they're trying to charge.
Given that iTunes has already sync'd since this nightmare, is there another free way to recover them and get them back on my phone though?
Thanks in advance for any help!!

I know of no way to remove encryption on iTunes backups if you've forgotton the password.  If you've used the 4 digit PIN code to lock your iPhone in the past that can sometimes default as your "password" for this encryption in iTunes.  Try that PIN or any PIN you've used in the past.  If you don't use a lock maybe you played around with that feature once when you first got your phone....try "1,2,3,4" or anything you could have possibly tried.
As far as accessing older unencrypted backups you can try this software.  I do not have any experience using it but it seems like it's what you need and is probably the easiest route for both voicemail and texts:
    http://deciphertools.com/products.html
If you want to try to find voicemails using Terminal, I found this link as well:
    http://mikereys.wordpress.com/2011/10/18/iphone-backup-restoring-visual-voice-ma il/
I know with AT&T, voicemails are only stored on their servers for 30 days so any voicemail older than that you would not have been able to access again.
    Best of luck.

  • Palm App Catalog "I didn't pay for my copy of Avatar but would like to" help!

OK, so I ended up with Avatar from the App catalog for free(sort of).
The long story short I lost my wallet in the snow storm. So I had to canceled all my lost credit cards last week. When I downloaded Avatar last night I forgot that my palm profile was linked to one of the canceled cards. The game downloaded and plays great. However I received a email from palm (bellow) that the card did not go through, but that was it. I've searched all over palms site can't seem to get any help or contact info. I found a phone number on Palms support web page(but i think it was the palm store help desk number), that did not help.
They told me to call PocketGear. Get this the guy from Palm told me to call Pocketgear. They don't have anything to do with the web os app catalog.
I want to pay for the game but have no idea what to do!

I apparently have the same problem.  I bought an app this morning, forgetting that the credit-card in the app-store had been lost & cancelled a few days ago.
I tried changing the credit card to the replacement card # -- it won't let me until all pending purchases have been cleared.
I tried deleting the card but get the same message.
I also removed the application from my Pre.  It lets me download it again for free.
The most frustrating part is that the App Store has been sending me a message every freakin' 10 minutes since early this morning:

Despite the 60 or so emails in my inbox, I can't see how to fix it -- there is no place at that support link to fix an issue like this.  Any ideas?
...and is there a way to send the e-mails less frequently?

  • Looking for opinions: AppleCare worth to pay for it ?

Within the next three weeks we have to decide whether or not investing around 1.000 Euro ($1.200 USD) into three year AppleCare support for our company's XServe.
At this time I had made only (more or less) bad experiences with the 90-days-support Apple provides (I can only talk about the German support, not sure regarding others):
Most questions became answered by refering me to knowledgebase articles not related in any way to my original issue. Also I heard often that this is a known problem, but cannot be supported since it requires command line access not under the support terms or that they will call me back (I had to call back each single time). One time I even got the advise to visit this forum
And during my last phone calls I also had the special pleasure to talk with a professional speaking some kind of "Gerglish" (German and English mixed). It was quite hard to get even an idea about what he is speaking, so after explaining my issue three times, I gave up. By the way, he also promised to send me knowledgebase articles - I never received them.
Only very few support calls were handled professionally. So I had a really hard time on getting anything set up, configured and worked around the bugs Apple ships with the servers. Many thanks to this forum, Apple should charge for using it and I would be the first paying for - hope that they don't read this and take it for serious The people here at this place are much more helpful as all German support representatives together.
But back to topic. I would like to hear some user experiences made with the three years extended support, especially from Germany-based people (hope that there are some users around). Good as well as bad ones.
So hopefully I get a better overview whether or not it is worth spending money or better diving into OS X Server by educating myself.

First, realize that the three-year maintenance agreement is only a hardware maintenance agreement. It is not for assisting you in setting up your server or working around Apple's bugs. Also realize that your experience in Germany may be different from my experience in the U.S.
That said, for us it has been worth it. We have had four incidents with our Xserve G5, and, in each case, I have been impressed with the telephone support we have received from the Enterprise Server Support Group in Austin, Texas. The first case was an apparent manufacturing error - rather than the 250 GB ADM drive that had been ordered, invoiced, and paid for, the server arrived with an 80 GB drive. Replacement drive overnighted, arrived next day. In the second case, our Apple Hardware RAID card had its firmware settings become corrupted in an odd manner where it still functioned perfectly as two RAID 5 LUNs, but the Xserve would not boot from it. This happened during replacement of the BTO Apple SCSI card (really a rebranded LSI Logic 22320) in the adjacent slot that never worked right with our backup software, replaced by an ATTO UL4D that has never had problems. Because no firmware file was available for re-flashing the card (even though I believed and still believe that the card itself was OK), a replacement Apple Hardware RAID card was overnighted, received next day, and solved the problem with the RAID card. The third instance was when the ribbon cable between the Apple Hardware RAID and the drives was suspected as being intermittent and, no questions asked, a replacement was sent. The fourth instance was when we got intermittent ECC errors. Austin support had us interchange two DIMMs to see whether it was the motherboard that they should send (if the errors did not follow the DIMM) or a replacement DIMM (which they should send if the errors followed the DIMM). Turned out to be the DIMM, and a replacement was sent.
I still have an open case on the Apple Hardware RAID card that has been open for over a year, now. The card has a bug in that it does not fully flush its write cache on graceful power down. Only workaround is to turn the write caches off, which is what we have done. Because the Xserve G5 (and its Apple Hardware RAID card) is EOL, I doubt that this bug will ever be fixed. But the hardware is broken (unless you think it is normal for a disk controller card not to flush its write cache on graceful power down before disconnecting from the drives).
My only complaint is with the local on-site subcontractor. There are not many Xserves in our city. When the Apple Hardware RAID card failed, we had to make numerous follow-ups to get the local service person to contact us following the initial incident report with Austin, even though the server would not boot from the Apple Hardware RAID (we kept the server up by booting to an external firewire drive). When the local on-site repair person finally contacted us, I was not impressed by his total lack of knowledge about the Xserve, and I do not believe that he had ever seen an Xserve, much less ever having been trained on the product. I told him that I did not want him touching our server, relayed that information to Apple's support group in Austin, and they just overnighted the replacement Apple Hardware RAID card to me for replacement by me.
So, if you are expecting setup assistance or assistance working around bugs in the software, you aren't going to get it. It's strictly hardware repair. If you are looking for bug reporting or workarounds, the best route there is to get an Apple Developer membership (they are free if you get the entry level that doesn't provide prerelease software) and to file bug reports via RADAR.
    Hope this helps,
    Russ

  • Getting 1/2 the speed I'm paying for & in too much pain to be on phone for hours--HELP

My children do a Cyber school and have been getting disconnected from class for months now.  I'm also having losing the internet at random times on my desktop. A friend told me how to check my speed (since I know so little about computers) and I found out I'm only getting 1/2 the speeds I'm paying for!!!!  I've called Verizon customer service in WHATEVER COUNTRY 6 times now but I have to hang up after any longer than 35 minutes because of chronic pain!  Tech makes me turn off my router, check my speed, (when I know they can see the speed right in front of them, after 1 rep told me the speed without my asking) and computer share.   Nothing gets resolved, I NEVER GET THE CALL FROM A SUPERVISOR THAT WAS PROMISED, and Verizon closes out the problem after 72 hours!!  Seems  like EVERYONE ELSE HERE GETS THE SAME RUNAROUND AND LACK OF RESPECT!!  One billing person offered me a refund for the difference in speed for only 1 month and offered me to upgrade!!  I can't afford to upgrade and the Cyber will work if I would only get the speed I had when 1 started with Verizon in 2002!  I said UNACCEPTABLE and am having to call back once a week (because that's all I can handle)  to try to get a Supervisor!  Can anyone tell me how to get help without the exhaustion of being on the phone forever?!
All I know is I'm paying for 1.1-3 mbps but only getting .439-.864mbps download and 0.08-0.09 upload speeds and I have a Westfall 327W 8 year old modem.

Thank you for replying and sorry it took so long to respond.  Now I can't get into my Verizon email so I didn't know I had a response on this site. I was also physically unable to sit at my computer.  Here is the info you requested:
Transceiver Revision: 7.2.3.0   Vendor ID Code: 4   Line Mode: G.DMT Mode   Data Path: Interleaved     Transceiver Information Downstream Path Upstream PathDSL Speed (Kbits/Sec) 864 160 Margin (dB) 20.5 31.0 Line Attenuation (dB) 44.5 29.0 Transmit Power (dBm) 3.3 11.1
on 8/15 I had the slowest download speed yet of 0.17 mbps! I am paying for 1.1-3mbps.  My modem is 6 or 7 years old.  I'm not sure if I mentioned the last 2 sentences before.

  • Not getting the speed I'm paying for

I've been a happy Fios customer for years and I've always upgraded to their latest and greatest the second it became available since Fios has, in the past, always outperformed whatever was promised. However things have changed. I upgraded to the 75/35 package, the highest level available in my area, but I've never achived that speed, but in the days after the upgrade it was close enough for me to be happy, around 70mb on the downloads. However in the months since then it was gotten slower and slower to now where I'm happy if I'm getting 50mb downloads. While that is still fast, that is what I got when I was on the cheaper 35/35 plan I had before I upgraded (as I said they used to overachive). All I want is what I'm paying for, if they could go over that be wonderful but it isn't required. What is required is that they come close to the numbers I'm paying for -- and those 50mb numbers are just getting to their local test servers, not even real world numbers which are slightly slower than that.
To answer ahead of time, I don't use bittorrent -- but I do download a ton of stuff via Netflix, YouTube and Steam. Then again I've always done that. There is no reason I would be being throttled.
So not to condem Fios since I've always been a happy customer, my router from them is I think about 4 years old -- in addition to the lack of speed I'm running into issues of having to reset it more often and the internet going dead if something is running at max download, like Steam. I'm thinking, hoping, that maybe just my router needs to be replaced. Since this is supposed to be a monitored forum how do I go about this without spending an hour on the phone doing what I've already done by myself 10 times before. For the record I was doing internet tech support as far back as 1996, I'm an extremely experienced user and have no interest in having someone tell me to reboot my router -- I know, I've done that.
Assuming that someone is reading this that can help please contact me with information on how to replace the router, just send me a new one in the mail, I'll be extremely happy with that.
    Thank you,
    Christopher

Someone may chime in to help you out here. Otherwise, just stop by Live Chat or give Tech Support a call. Tell them you're having to reboot your router a lot and you believe it's going bad. Verizon's typically very good with sending you a new router without question.
Give your router a factory reset, though, and make sure it's not covered in dust. Just to give that a try
Also, if you use MoCa for WAN connectivity, consider checking your MoCa signal levels to see if your Coaxial connections are acting up. That can also cause your Internet to decrease in speed and drop out under high load. See: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/16569

  • My phone wont connect to interweb  (im paying for) unless i connected to a public or home wifi

Like my title says i cant use my data im paying for. the way i can use the intereb is from a public wifi

No one has an idea what phone you have. Generally, for things like this, people recommend trying these steps:
    1). power down the phone
    2). remove SIM card
    3). wait 5 minutes
    4). re-insert SIM
5). power back up the phone
with WiFi off, yes, you should be able to browse the web via the cellular connection. If you have WiFi on, and you are connected to an access point (router), it should default to using that radio to browse the web...
If the steps above don't work for you, you may have to either:
1). call VZW and have them check your account. tell them that you did the above and it didn't work.
2). go into a CORPORATE VZW store and request a new SIM card be installed in your phone (and don't leave the store till they verify operation works for you).

  • HT3867 Is it possible to pay for wifi for my iPod touch?

I had heard that you can pay for wifi on your iPod but haven't figured out how. I want to have Internet access at all times and not just when I'm near the router. Is this even possible to get with an iPod touch?

    No.
You would ahve to be near a wi-fi router and have access/permission ot use that router/network.
You can buy a my-fi device form a wireless carrier that recieves a cell signal and allows you to use it via a built-in wi-fi router.

  • How do I update the Firmware on the Quantum Router?

So the Quantom router is missing a bunch of features the old action tech router had.  Advanced filteringis gone, I am hoping a firmware update would bring it back.  I go to look to upgade or check for a firmware update and that isn't there either.
How do I update the Firmware on the Quantum Router?

The current Quantum firmware version is 0.26.29.
Firmware updates are automatically pushed by Verizon.  If you have an older version, reboot the router and it should pickup the new version.
    Enjoy.

  • Not getting The Speed That I am Paying For

    Greetings all FIOS Internet users.
I had FIOS Internet installed at my house on March 8, 2014.  I bought the 50 MBPS download package.
Unfortunately, my highest download speed is about 28 MBPS.  Because I'm a computer whiz, I immediately realized what my problem is.  It's my router setup.
The Verizon installers placed my router on a coffee table in my living room and then inserted a wireless USB card in to one of my computer's USB 2.0 ports.  However, my computer is located on the second floor of my house in my master bedroom and the router is located on the ground level of my house in my living room.
Instead of running an Ethernet cable from the router to my computer, the Verizon installers opted to go with a wireless installation.  I can run an Ethernet cable from my router to my computer by using the coax cable outlets located in every room of my house.  Of course, this will require many hours of work by me because I will have to pull the coax cable out of each outlet and substitute Ethernet cable or-- I can run an Ethernet cable from my router to the outside of my house and then run this cable to my master bedroom by drilling a hole in my bedroom wall..  I've course I will have to weather proof this outside cable.
If I do this, will my FIOS contract with Verizon be null & void?  I don't want to have any legal problems with Verizon but I sure as heck don't want to pay for 50 MBPS if I'm only getting 28 MBPS.
    Please advise!!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I can't answer the question why the installer did what he did.  If you have a complaint about that it's best handled with Verizon Customer Service, rather than through this peer-to-peer forum.
However, since you do have coax already running to the room where your computer is located, and if (this is important) your Actiontec is being fed by coax now, the amount of work involved in moving the router would be minimal.  Just disconnect it from it's present location and reconnect it in your master bedroom.
You may need a splitter for the coax in the bedroom but they're inexpensive and easy to obtain.
If your Actiontec is currently connected to your ONT via Ethernet, moving the router would still be done the same way but you'd then have to call tech support and get them to change your ONT's provisioning from Ethernet output to coax.
Once the router is moved, connect it to your PC via Cat 5/6 cable and in all likelihood you'll start getting the full speeds you're paying for.

  • Paying for 35/35 speed BUT????

I recently upgraded and started paying for the service which is 35/35 (I think).  My question is that since I upgraded but Verizon didn't offer a wireless N router, are the speeds really working, or should I have asked for a different router?  I have an Actiontec.
Another problem I'm having and a reason I was thinking of upgrading to wireless N is because I have some interference in my house and 2 xbox's that are in other rooms have very weak signals.  Since they are having this problem I thought about paying for some ethernet cable and hard wiring both.  The problem with that is the wire costs about the same as a wireless N router.
So what I'm looking to do is either find out if wirelss N would possible help with signal strength for 2 of my xbox's?  Should I buy a booster for the verizon router I have instead of hard wiring?  I know hard wire is the way to go to get good speeds but money is a factor here.  Of course the other thing is since I'm paying for faster speeds should I upgrade to wireless N?  Also did I make a mistake and pay for faster service when I (or verizon) didn't upgrade my router?
Thanks in advance for any help.

run speedtests....  what are the numbers?
http://speedtest.verizon.net  (uses java, pick your state)
http://speakeasy.net/speedtest (uses flash, 8 cities to choose from)
If Win Vista or WIn 7, open IE in admin mode when running the VZ speedtest..  after the test runs, it has a link to the Optimizer (that requires admin mode)...

  • Paying for 25 Mb/s speed. Getting .3 , Why?

    Hello,
We have had Verizon for a while now, and we've been paying for 25 mb/s speed. Now I'm getting .3 Mb/s on a good day. This is with no other downloads going on and no other devices using up bandwith. Why is this happening?

Have you checked the router is it verizon router or a third party router? Have you power cycled it? Are you running a speed test wireless  or through the ethernet ? You might want to run it through ethernet .

  • I never get anything close to the 35 up I pay for

    All,
I have been paying for 35 MB up and 35 MB down for two years.  I usually get 41Mb up and often only 4 to 6Mb down.  I have replaced the router 6 times (at verizons request).  I have had the whitebox changed by a verizon tech and switch from broadband coax to broadband ethernet connections.  Sometimes I get 21 Mb up -- max  but often it is anywhere from 1 MB to 4 MB.
IT SEEMS LIKE VERIZON IS NOT delivering its promise.  AND I have folks in California who rely on what I am doing.  They show FTP from my site to them is less than 60Kbps.  Its rediculous.
I THINK VERIZON owes me an explaination.  I know they can't guarantee precise rates upload speed but this simply is working and ITS NOT my router, white box or wiring its VERIZONS network.
I really wish someone would just step up and admit it at VERIZON then give me a refund for the money they have stolen from me.

I guess you mean the reverse of what you stated as I would read down to be data delivered to your network and up being data leaving your network.  As you state FTP to someone else that would be your up side.  I'm assuming you are running an ftp client to a remote server as according to yout TOS (if a residential user) you shouldn't be running an ftp server).
What does speedtest show you?  Did you run the optimizer? and if so did it make a difference?  If you have run the optimizer does removing it's settings make a difference? Are you running your uploads from a device wired to the Verizon subnet or is there one or more extra router hops in between the device and the Verizon gateway?  That 35 up is also dependant on where the data is going to, you're likely to find it to be much slower if you are traversing multiple networks to a destination the other side of the country or world.

  • Do I have to pay for a new iPhone if I have apple care?

Okay, so I have multiple things wrong with my iPhone 5:
    1. The battery runs out quick.
    2. The screen is constantly uncalibrated and doesn't receive the touch of my finger 70% of the time.

  • Advanced Filtering on New Quantum Router

Unlike the old actiontech router, the new quantum router has seems to have no way for advanced filtering.  How do I adjust the advanced filtering settings?  I have a VoIP line the router is interfearing with.

I just spent about an hour and a half trying to explain my issue and the Verizon tech connected me with the Quantum router tech. He informed me that currently there is no way to restrict inbound access to a port forwarding rule. He said, its possible that the feature may be added via a firmware update in the future but could not give me a date or even when to expect one. The Verizon tech said he would call me back in 24 hours with any information he could gather but I may end up switching back to the Actiontec MI424WR Rev1 as it still supports 75/75 and the features I use. I open an SSH tunnel from work to a PC on my internal network at home for testing purposes and I don't want every IP on the Internet to have access. I'll update this post when I hear from the verizon tech tomorrow.
