Pb motion 5 to FCPX

I seem to have followed all of the process. When create a title and save as Title5 it does appear in FCP X but then when I wish to use it I get a RED warning with a T and a yellow alert. I have tried several configurations but nothing seems to work.
Does anybody have an idean Thanks
Nick in Paris France

The preference files are in your user library which you can only see by going to the go menu in finder and holding down the option key while clicking. A library option will appear. Easiest may be to download Preference manager from Digital Rebellion (It's Free). Then select Motion and FCP preferences to be deleted. I was able to view your video ok. You did drop your clip into the title background zone which means you won't see the clip in FCP. It will be replaced by the clip that you place the title over but it should not cause the issue you are having. I created a title following your workflow from the video and had no problem until I deleted the file from Motion Templates and then went back to Motion where the project was still open and hit save. That did not recreate the files in Motion Templates so I got the redT in FCP. I had to do a save as in Motion and then it was ok. A point to remember is that when you delete a title from the Motion Templates folder it will still show up in FCP title browser until you relaunch FCP. If you try to use it in FCP you will get the Red T error. So always when you delete a title which you have been playing with always relaunch FCP. Since you right clicked a title in FCP and opened it in Motion and had the same problem that implies some issue with Motion or FCP. You might try it without renaming and it should show up in FCP as the title name with copy after it. If trashing the preferences doesn't help I would reinstall FCP and Motion. You might try FCP first and see if that fixes it.

  • No "Send to Motion" in FCPX

I'm using Final Cut ProX (ver 10.2.4) and Motion 5 (ver 5.1.2) and trying to "import" video files into Motion 5.  I do not have a "Send to Motion" option within FCPX.  And I can't seem to find a way to import video files directly into Motion 5.

    1. There is no send to Motion in FCPX.
    2. Depending on what you need (source clips, section of the edit, timeline range). You can use the Share options to export the clip to a format like ProRes422 or 4444, and then import those clips into Motion. When you are done in Motion, export back out  to a high quality codec and add the render into your Final Cut project.
See the "Share projects, clips, and ranges" section of the "Share  your project" chapter in the user manual.
    3. In some cases, you may be able to achieve what you need by using Final Cut Effects/Titles/Generators and just add the effects onto your clip in FCP.

  • How to Create a Custom Title in Motion for FCPx

I would like to make something like the "torn edge" title in Fcpx with the following animation; it would move up from the horizon at the bottom of the screen, display the appropriate text for its position in the movie timeline and then drop down and disappear, reversing the same motion as it did at the beginning.  No music or sound would be used when the motion happens, but that might be an interesting addition.
What steps would I do to make this happen.  I'm new to Motion and want to do some fast track learning.
Would I create the image that I want to animate in photoshop and import it? Or am I way off base?
    Thanks.

Why go through the trouble? Just use the Torn Edge title and add the animation to it. Start by right-clicking on the Title in the Title browser in FCPX and select Open a Copy in Motion.
All you need to do is add the animation keyframes to the "components" group (Position > Y). Everything in the title, including the text objects will "follow".
If you'd like, you could add Build In and Build Out Optional markers giving you the option which animations you want to include. To add "timing" markers, no layers can be selected (so click in the layers list on a space where nothing is listed.) Move the playhead to the frame where the animation ends for the animation in and type M, then type Command-Option-M and from the popup Edit Marker dialog, select Type: Build In Optional. Move the playhead to the frame the animation out starts and do the same except select Type: Build Out Optional.
When you're finished, Save As if you want to name it something other than Torn Edge copy. You will need to create or select an existing category (but you can ignore the Theme option.)
It should just take you a few minutes to make the modifications you desire.
If you would like to "reveal" the text objects instead of having then move up into position, Move the Title Text Here and Subtitle Text Here folders out of the components folder into a New Group (select both objects and drag them over the top group in the layers list and position the mouse over towards the checkbox column -- a new group will be automatically created containing the two text objects). Select the Group object and Command-Shift-M to add an image mask. Into the source well, drop the components folder and turn the components folder back on (adding something as a mask causes it to be turned off automatically.)
To really sell the effect, option drag the components group above the text group and turn off "Tan bg" and "PaperTorn". (The animations will be copied as well and will match the original group.) You need another copy of the Torn edge to pass over the text...
You could Save As this variation for yet another separate effect.

  • Motion in FCPX - click lag, hanging, tortuously slow rendering

    Hello Colleagues,
I have 2 iMacs of different generations, both up-to-spec and up-to-date on OS, FCP, and Motion.
I am experiencing very poor performance when using Motion "generator" graphics: lag, hanging, slow renders, and sometimes even crashing.
I have verified folder permissions, verified fonts, eliminated all converted events/libraries from pre-10.1 - pretty much everything except uninstalling, trashing prefs, and reinstalling fresh.
Still, FCP seems to be FIGHTING ITSELF, with iStat showing that more than half of CPU effort is being used by "system" instead of "user" at any given moment (when Motion assets are present and enabled).
The performance is far poorer than it ever was on FCP7 with Motion 4, and it is far worse than FCP10.0.x with Motion 5 (one of my machines was previously used with FCP7, however, the newer one has been FCPX since its unboxing day in early 2013).
Does anyone have any suggestions for the next step in troubleshooting this problem?
    Thanks,
    Eric - CoralVision

Yay it's Luis and Russ! Hello colleagues!
Luis: I tink I posted a link to one of the troublesome assets for you, but I limped through the completion of that project by keeping the inspector closed. I still suffered lots o click-lag, spinny balls, and, at the end, an overnight render, but I got through. This was on a 90minute show choir concert that had about 12x 8 second lower 3rds, and about 3 minutes of full screen titles, rolls, and credits. All of the FCP generator assets were made by me from scratch in Motion5. The current post relates to a similar problem, but on a different machine with different assets. The current complaint is from my slightly older iMac (lower power than the new one but still quite capable when using the former versions of this software), and the generators came from Motion projects which were originally created in Motion4. So unless there is something wrong with my practice in using FCPX generators, something in common across the 4 or 5 projects where I have experienced similar problems, I think that a corrupt template is an unlikely explanation.
Russ: I run my systems stock - that is to say that the only 3rd party plugins I have installed are the Canon EOS and XF plugins I use for ingesting media. I don't have any plugins related to MoGraph, editing, rendering, or memory management. These are custom generators that I am creating, chasing the "template" functionality I used to enjoy between Motion and FCP7. So yes, user generated custom generators - and I have had similar problems with several batches of varying complexity and varying origin.
For now I will just have to adapt, observe, and troubleshoot. I have a sneaky feeling that I am doing something wrong in the way I am setting up the motion projects for publication, but I will surely announce it loudly if I learn anything new.
    Thanks for checking in, fellows!

  • Stop Motion and FCPX

    Hi,
Could anyone tell me if it is possible to create a stop motion film with onion skinning effects using Final Cut Pro X?
Failing that, is there any effect in FCPX which I could use to show me where the last frame was positioned in a stop motion film?
I was wondering if I would need specific stop motion software or not,
    Many Thanks
    James

What versions of the software are you using?

  • Fixing objects to camera motion in FCPX?

    Hi
FCPX noob here with a question that may well have been asked many times, but I can't find any answer..
I have some footage of field panorama, and I want to be able to add an 'object', a house in this case, in the distance. Easy enough, but my house is obviously static and there is a subtle enough shake on the camera to make the whole thing look disjointed.
So my question is - is there a way I can fix my house to match the shake on the camera, so that it becomes a seamless part of the shot?
I hope I'm explaining myself clearly. Like I said, I am a noob who is currently using the evaluation version of FCPX, so I'm not even sure if my terms are correct.
I have tried stabilizing the footage in FCPX, but it appears to make very little or no difference. I also know that getting a perfectly level shot in the first place is probably the best idea, but I kind of am where I am with this particular piece and reshooting is not easy.
I'm halfway through my trial, and have struggled a fair bit, it's all very new to me. I'm sure there are 100's of features that I'm not aware of!
    Thanks for any help
    Rich

    Great - thanks for answering!
Bad news for me is that there does not appear to be a trial version of Motion available for download! It seems a bit unfair that you can get FCPX but not (by the sounds of it) the essential add ons to make FCPX complete.
Obviously I'm not going to pay $50 for a piece of software when my trial expires in 2 weeks.
I'll bet theres no other way of doing this kind of thing either ... but would like to be proved wrong

  • How to get good slow motion w/FCPX?

Okay, so I've been trying to get some good slow motion video. I'm new to this whole video thing, but I'm fortunate enough to be able to have some cool toys even though I don't know how to use them yet! Anyway, here are my questions (prefaced by some details to help you answer my questions!).
    What I'm working with:
    Two cameras
    1) GoPro shooting at 720p, 60 FPS
    2) Canon Vixia HF G10 shooting at 1080i, 60 FPS
    - In case my terminology is wrong, the GoPro shoots in 60p, and the Canon shoots at 60i....not sure the best way to describe it.
    Editing with:
    - FCPX
    - I don't have Motion 5 or Compressor yet, but I can get it if its necessary for any reason
    Goal that I'm working toward:
    - I want to get some smooth "creamy" slow motion footage every now and then when the video I'm making calls for it.
    - Here's a couple examples of the type of slow motion I'm hoping to end up with:
    - (right about at the 3:10 point)
    Problem I'm having:
    - With the GoPro (60p), I can only slow down to 50% speed before it starts to look choppy. Slower than that Optical Flow will work a little bit, but it still looks very amateur.
    - With the Canon (60i, but much higher quality video), I can barely slow it down at all without it looking choppy and sloppy.
    Questions:
    - Am I doing something wrong?
    - Do I need to download other software?
    - Anybody willings to give me a step by step instruction?!
    - I'm stumped...any help will be great!
    Thanks!

I'm a bit short having time for my tests, but what I found out so far.
    • avoid any 'natural motion blurr' in your recordings
    • if optional on your device, select super-short shutter speed (<1/1000th), depending on 'action' in front of cam (ever wondered why those demos are preferred in bright sunlight? )
    • avoid too high 'angle speed' = too fast too close: if the picture content changes too fast btw. frame#1 and frame#2 the eye is not able to blend the content = stutter
    • Optical Flow: excellent on small angle speed, failing on fast angle speed or rotation:
watch my short demo here (YT-link) testing speeds and blending modes:
(recording 720/60p, ~1/1000th shutter speed, Project setting 25p)
    • notice the perfect blending of motion far away from cam (player girl in green)
    • notice the unwanted 'warp' effects around the player in blue close to cam, esp. legs
    • notice the 'wobble' of rotating ball in 10% slowmo ... that is beyond Optical Flows skills
What I've seen so far from the famous TWIXTOR plugin for FCPX/Motion5, it lacks the 'plus' features (e.g. seperating background/layers) and has to be handled as unconvenient as the old version for FC/e (copy/paste clips to lengthen etc). Info: the vers. of Twixtor for FC/e and FC/p differed dramatically!
=> imho, the actual vers. of Twixtor4FCPX isn't worth the 300$ (yepp, three HUNDRED) …
and my personal opinion upon marketing: a plugin shouldn't be more expensive than its host

  • Unable to open Motion inside FCPX

I just purchased an iMac and installed Final Cut pro X , Motion 5, Compressor as well as a third party plug-in (Red Giants Magic Bullet Looks) but I am unable to access Motion or Magic Bullet Looks through the host program (Final Cut). Am I suppose to be able to do this or not?
I am able to access Motion and Magic Bullet Looks as a stand alone programs only.
I'm very new to Mac and it's software. In fact this is the first time I'm submitting a discussion thread on line. Can someone please help.

Not necessary to say, that this was not problem in FCP7 and Motion 4 and is not FCXP and Motion 5.
There you just right clicked the clip in timeline and select "Send to Motion".
Currently you may not apply one or more of the phantastic Motion 5 features directly to your clip from the timeline.
    This is frustrating...
    Mark Spencer4 wrote:
You don't open Motion inside of FCP X. It is a standalone application. You can use it to publish titles, transitions, effects, and generators TO FCP X, which are then available in FCP X's Browsers to apply to your projects. You can also use it to modify any of the existing effects. This article may help:

  • Audio problem with a Motion transition in FCPX

I've looked everywhere for a solution to this and nobody seems to be having the same problem. So I decided I'd try here.
Basically I've been using Final Cut Pro X for a while now and just this week I decided to buy and try out Motion 5 to go with FCPX.
I've spent the past 3 days making a transition in Motion for use in my FCPX projects and I finally have it the way I like it. It's 3 seconds long and also has 2 audio files in the timeline. The transition plays perfectly with the audio when I do a RAM preview in Motion or when I export it from Motion.
However, it's saved as a transition, which I need to use in FCPX. It shows up in Final Cut and i can use it in my timeline and the video renders fine, but there's no audio. Whatever I do I just cant get the audio to play in Final Cut. I've updated to the newet versions of FCPX and Motion just in case.
Whether I play the timeline or export my FCPX project it makes no difference, the audio just does not play in Final Cut. I'd love if anyone had an idea why this is happening?
I've tried changing the file type of the auido used in Motion from mp3 to aiff because it's more native to OS X, I've also tried publishing the audio perimeters in Motion but no such luck with either.
I'm still fairly new to FCPX and in particular, Motion 5 so there could definitely be something I'm missing in terms of settings. Maybe I'm wrong but are or can transitions even have audio in them?
If anyone has any idea why my transition audio doesn't play in Final Cut, I'd appreciate any help.
    (I'm on OS X 10.8.1 on a 2009 24" iMac)

I havent checked this, but I suspect that the audio does not make it across to fcpx. You might need to create the audio bits in fcpx, maybe export as a mix and re-import into a Keep Assets event. I keep all sorts of goodies in one of these. The communication between Motion and FCPX is a pain in many workflows still, and I wiat for the day when Motion is rolled into FCPX to make life easier ( so long as they dont take any features away of course)

  • FCPX  unable to open effects in motion

in FCP X every time i try to open an effect in Motion it reads " there was a problem making a copy of the effect the file could not be written"

  • Motions interaction with FCPX?

    Hi all
I have recently started using FCPX on a MacBook Pro after playing around in iMovie for a bit (new Mac convert) but i never purchased the latest version of Motion with it.
I am wondering, what interaction Motion has with FCPX?  Like do i have to export the timeline/individual clips to Motion to be able to add certain effects to clips in my time line, then import it back to FCPX?  or does the Motion interface appear with in FCPX?
How do others edit using Motion and FCPX?
    I hope that makes sense.
    Thanks
    Amanda

.... In Motion 5, are there additional effects that you can access in FCPX with out having to create them or if you create one how do you access it in FCP?
M5 is by far much more than just a 'bag of tricks'.
It is a tool box to create your very own ones.
And as Tom already mentioned above, you can use it as a stand-alone app to create 'effected clips', or you can access your own made titles, effects, transitions from FCPX.
this excellent tutorial showed me how:
    http://library.creativecow.net/neil_andy/Motion-Quick-Tip-5-FCPX/1
Following this advice, I have my own tab for effects (and titles and transitions), and I have full access to the parameters of that from me created effect. Example:
in the timeline, you see a portrait of one of my soccer players on a second track ... (2nd track, 'cause it's a cut-away)
on lower right, you see the effects-browser, there's a tab SVP (=team's name)
in the browser are two me-made effects, selected is Torschütze (=goal scorer)
on top there are the 'published parameters': Name, Position, statistics - for shure I have to be able to individualize the effect for each scorer...
plus, a 'Transformation' area, to put the shot nice into the little frame, x, y, size - the rotation is automatically done by my effect ...
in result is seen in Preview (I'm using a 2 monitor set, therefor that odd arrangement of windows )
the effect has some alpha/transparency, the blueish stripes in the background are slowly animated ...
My scorer template has the team's colors, the needed infos (=has not the unwanted ones which come with a M5 preset), ... simply 'my look' ...-
done in less than an hour (lots of trial 'n error, first time user...)

  • Best way to move files between FCPX and Motion?

What is the best protocol for bringing files back and forth between Motion and FCPX?
How do I save out from Motion for import to FCP? Is it with Templates?
    Whats the drill?
I have looked at both the helps and am coming up short.
    Thanks.

If you're simply working in generic Motion project, ProRes 422 Quicktime files are the best format for going back and forth.
If you want to save a Motion project to use as a template in FCP X, it has to be one of the template Motion project types.  Title, Generator, Effect, Transition.  You would select these from the Template Browser that opens first when Motion is initially launched.
If you want to start creating templates, I stronly recommend Ripple Training's "Rigging and Publising" video course for Motion 5.

  • Motion workflow with fcpx?

Hi! I have very basic question about the workflow between Final Cut Pro X and Motion 5.
    I have two senarios:
one is where I just want to create cool looking titles in motion, and this answer I thing i have figured out, I just open up the motion project file that i have made with a specific title, in FCPX and i use it as a normal clip, is this the best way to do this?
two: I have a project im working on in FCPX and I want to animate stuff in the project, like match moves, effects particles etc, this is where I dont get it.
How are you supposed to use motion to achieve stuff inside of an ongoing project in fcp? Is the only way to do that to export certain parts of the project as a file and import the same file into motion and then add the stuff i wanted to do and ultimately reimport the the exportet version from motion to FCPX it seems like such a hassle. Maby im missing something obvious?
Every bit of help is appreciated.

    Hi Guys
Sorry to ressurect such an old post. I'm just starting with FCXP, and I think I'm getting my head around it. It looks like Motion would be ace for creating custom titles. However, I always imagined Motion working like a plugin in FCPX, and I can't work out how the workflow described in the post above works for things like match move - where there needs to be a specific clip to match.
What I'm working on is a music video with some pretty swift transitions. I'd like to add match moving text to each shot.
What would be the ideal workflow for this type of motion graphic?
I should say at this point that I haven't yet bought Motion 5 - I'm just trying to work out if it can do what I'm after.
Thanks in advance for your help!
    Mike

  • FCPX no longer boots

I now get an error from App Store for Motion and FCPX and a message stating that FCPX is being updated. I rebooted the Mac Book Pro but no dice. Am running 10.9.4 and both apps ran fine 2 days ago. I get an error regarding both app in App Store. What can I do about this. Disconcerting does not begin to describe what I am feeling at this time. Any help would be terrific.

False alarm, thank God. App Store did the update automatically, which was weird, but everything is fine.

  • Four FxPack plug-ins for Apple Motion

    Hi,
just to let you know that I posted four plug-ins I made (Fake 3D, Numbers, Drop Shadow and Grow Bounds) with FxFactory Pro for Apple Motion.
    http://avseikkailuja.blogspot.com/2008/11/tapios-fxpack-10.html
These plug-ins are totally free but registered version of FxFactory Pro 2.0.5 (or trial time) is required. Hope you find these useful.

There's a new very advanced Motion 5 / FCPX lens flare plugin called mFlare. It is jus as great as Optical Flares fo AE and it's much cheaper. It includes over 110 presets, dynamic animation engine, 3D lights tracking, 13 lens flare objects and all important stuff. Check it out at http://www.motionvfx.com/mplugs-1.html

  • Using .movs in Templates for FCPX

    Hi, all!
I was trying to create a "Filter" in Motion 5 for use in FCPX. The idea was to make a "old film" effect, so I mad a vignette, border defocus, randomized Y motion and defocussing, flickering light - the whole shabang - and it looked great. Finally I composed a Quicktime .mov of actual 35mm telecined film scratches and dust over the image via multiply.
When I use the effect on a clip in FCPX that is longer that the duration of the effect-template I created in Motion, FCPX "stretches" the effect temporarily, meaning my clip with the scratches and dust-particles plays back slower.
Is there a possibility of having Motion or FCPX loop the .mov contained in the effect for the duration needed insted of time-stretching it?
Sorry for cross-posting, but I posted this in the Motion 5 forum, too.
    Thanks for any thoughts

    "Code makes my head spin"
Then you are in the wrong business.  If you want to be at all effective with DW, that will have to change.
I'm using swap image behaviors for a navigation bar and have made this an editable region so that on any certain page I can delete the swap image and just keep it as a steady image showing what page the viewer is on (does that make sense??).
Yes, it makes sense.  It's also a fatal error.  By making the navigation element sit in an editable region you have made sure that each page will have to be edited manually.  Consider using a different approach - either use a menu system that does this kind of thing for you, or implement one of the many methods that will manage those menu images.  Here are some thoughts:
It's easy to do with CSS or with javascript.
With CSS you would have a little stylesheet embedded in the head of each
page that allows you to set the down state for any given button (each button
would have a unique id - for example -
    <a href="foo.html" id="button1">...<a href="bar.html" id="button2">
and then your stylesheet would have this -
    a#button1 { styles }
on one page, and on another this -
    a#button2 { styles }
    See how that works?
With javascript, put this in script tags in the head of the document -
    function P7_downImage() {{
    var g7="<imagename>"
    var g7url="<pathname>"
    if ((g7=MM_findObj(g7))!=null) {{g7.src=g7url;}
and this on the <body> tag
    onload="P7_downImage()"
Then on each page you would need to make two edits:
Set g7 to the *name* of the button (not the file name but the HTML name -
e.g., "productsbutt"), and g7url to the pathname to the button (e.g.,
"images/nav/button3.gif"), and bada bing, bada boom!
There is an excellent tutorial here -
