PC Dead (no power) 3 months old

My 3 month old PC (see sig) shut down on its own and now I get nothing when I press the power switch.  I done a lot of searching and reading here.  Here's what I've done thus far...
 - temps always seemed real good (case 19c, ideal 33c, loaded /w Prime95 55c)
 - reset cmos, no change.
 - removed MB from the case and removed everything but cpu/fan, 1 stick of memory, and video card.  Plugging in 20pin and 4pin, shorting power switch pin heads does nothing.  No fans, no sounds, no lights.
 - tested PS by shorting green & black wire at the 20pin connector, case fan spins, tested orange, red, yellow with a dvm and get the proper 3.3, 5, 12 volts.
 - I don't see any sign of shorting or burning on the MB.
 - pulling the cpu & fan shows no burning either.
I'm thinking it must be the MB. Unfortunetly I don't have any replacement components (yet!) to swap things out to test.  Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions before I start the RMA process?  Anyone know if MSI will 'cross-ship' (ie. send out a replacement immediately assuming I give them charge card info)?
Thanks!

I`m in the same boat mate... just got mine running perfectly after a couple of weeks of trying to get it running,, and it worked beautifully for about 24 hours... I shut windows xp down and now she won`t start. I have pretty much the same rig as you, even down to the Zalman except I was using a Enermax Noisetaker 600W...  and tried using a Antec True Power 430W like yours and nothing... Also I have a AMD 4000+ cpu... and was using raid... sata and pata...
I`m totally gutted as  I spent so long getting it to work... (Hard drive and WinXP problems mainly)
Does anyone know if my other components may have been damaged through any MB problems?

  • Dead Pixel on 2 month old iMac 20"

I've tried tons of Pixel Fix ways. I've tried Videos and etc.
Is there anything i can do.
I have 1 dead pixel. Can i return it if nothing works at all?

Not sure how the laws in Germany are, but here in Norway you have the right to demand a new similar product if you find any faults with the one you purchased, as long as it's a mass produced product. Apple tried doing the whole "we have a pixel policy" thing, and I stated that I have a "laws of the country" thing, and they got me a new macbook in a few minutes (mine had a single dead pixel too, and I'm kinda picky that way).

  • TC no Power light. 2 months old.

My 2TB Time Capsule won't power on. Before I left an hour 2 hours ago it was working fine. When I came back home it was dead. No power and no light. Everything else in the power strip was fine. I changed outlets, unplugged it and tried again, but nothing.
I heard of TCs overheating after 17-18 months, but mine is only 2 months old, not even! Am I missing something or am I just going to have to swap it out under warranty?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
It sounds like you've done the basic troubleshooting things. If your Time Capsule is cold, silent (hold your ear to it), and not vibrating (hold your fingertips to it), then it sounds like it's really dead and ready for warranty replacement.

    Hi 1283ar.
Unfortunately, iOS 7 is too hard to push for the iPhone 4 and therefore has a lot of effects turned off to try to get it to run as smoothly as possible.
However, it becomes better and better with each update coming but it's hard to do anything about the hardware on an already released phones.
If you still have trouble or think they are too hard. My tip is, if so, to restore your iPhone 4 and make a clean setup with no iCloud backup. But all your photos in a photostream so you can access it later.

  • 6-month old Mac Pro has already had a new logic board and power supply

At a cost of $400 in shipping and a one-month wait, my 5-month old Mac Pro got a new power supply and logic board
Now I keep getting kernel panics, runaway kernel_task in Activity Monitor, and corrupted boot drives
External Firewire drives work some of the time, and occasionally my USB devices dont work either
This computer is a nightmare - how do I begin to figure out if this is OS (10.6.4) or hardware related?
The extended AHT test reports that all is OK - as does an extended memory test using Applejack
Should I do firmware updates and re-install the 10.6.4 combo pack, or am I just wasting more of my time?
I've got 4 macs and this is the only one that works badly - I think Apple's OS updates are getting as bad as Windows updates

My first question is why you spent $400 to get a 5 month old system fixed. That should have been covered under the warranty. So someone ripped you off, or you left out some key details.
And if you had both the logic board and PSU replaced, did you ever stop to think that maybe the problem lies with the power coming into your house? It's not really the big power spikes or blackouts you need to worry about, since those are pretty rare. What you need to worry about are the small fluctuations in voltage that happen several hundred times a day, if not an hour. Sometimes there's not quite enough power, other times there's a little too much, and all of this takes a steady toll on the PSU. It will do what it can to try and feed the rest of the computer a steady diet of electricity, but sometimes a jolt will get past it and start damaging other components. It could even cause data corruption on your HDD.
If the PSU and logic board already went, who knows what damage it may have caused to anything else. It may just be taking longer to show up.
It might also be that whomever ripped you off to the tune of $400 simply traded you one defective logic board for another. Or maybe they don't really know how to protect against ESD. I once saw a repair shop where the techs smoked in the same room they did the repairs. Sadly, for every one good tech out there, there's probably at least 3 complete idiots. Kind of like auto mechanics.
And I never have problems with Windows or Apple updates. Seems like on Windows the majority of people who have problems with updates are either running some program designed to change the way Windows looks or messes with low level system files, or they have a malware infestation they were unaware of/oblivious to. Most of the people who have problems with Apple updates seem to be the same way. They're running some truly bizarre programs that mess with the system in ways programs were not intended to mess with the system. There's generally a reason OS vendors provide an API for developers. You deviate from that at your own peril.

  • My four months old retina 15" has a dead pixel

    Hey!
My four months old macbook pro retina 15" has a dead pixel, clearly visable in the screen, and my question is " does the warranty covers it?"

    Thanks for answering...
Okey, do I need to go to the shop where I bought it? Or could I go to an apple shop located near me? And how long time does it take for them to replace the screen?
    Best regards,

  • No Power Off Option on Month Old Rhyme

    Hello,
First off, let me just say my wife loves her HTC Rhyme. This is her first step into a smartphone from a basic texting phone and loves it!
    But we have a problem....
I've checked the other posts, and I don't see anything mentioning the problem my wife is having with her month old Rhyme. For the past week when she presses and holds the lock button, it never displays the power off options like it did previously. All it does is lock/unlock the screen. I have seen other posts where with other HTC devices they remove/replace the battery and it corrects the problem. With the Rhyme having an internal batter, this solution isn't an option. Can anyone else offer a suggestion. If I have to, I can take it to the store, but I really don't want to as she is attached to the phone like glue.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    BB

I have the same problem with my Rhyme. I informed Verizon, and they said they would have to factory reset it, which I do NOT want to do. If you hold the power button long enough, it will shut off. It's annoying, but until this becomes a major problem, I do not want to have my phone reset. Hope this helps you decide what option you would like to take.
Another thing to add is that I had my phone replaced once because of numerous problems, such as this one, and the brand new phone did the same thing, so I really don't think a factory reset is going to help much. It may bring the option back for a while, but after a month it will probably be gone again.

  • IMac 27" 2 months old is dead

Our two month old iMac 27" has had 3 service calls. The 2nd one just over a week ago was because our CD drive stopped working. Luckily we have the extended warranty. However, we live in Beijing. The service guy came out took the screen off and took the serials numbers of everything inside. Why isn't that all linked to our main serial no? The mac is so new the new drive has to come from Singapore! A week later and still not here however, not that that matters at the moment as the mac is completely dead. Beijing service no for English routes to Singapore (thankgoodness) however they were so congested and busy I have to call back to speak with a product manager. I'm reading the forums and this seems to be a pretty common problem. I'm pretty ticked as this is an expensive computer and you expect better than it to have problems so quickly.

    First a couple of things.
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
Reading these forums is like visiting a hospital and coming to the conclusion many people in the general population are sick, of course that's a silly conclusion so don't be so quick to conclude the 27" iMac has a common problem.
However you are having an issue and you should contact Apple directions to see what can be done, the phone number for China should be listed in the owners manual, if for some reason you don't have that available you can download it here. Regarding your serial number question that is anyone's guess, perhaps they simply are collecting information to see if there is a trend with a batch of parts.
    Good luck!
    Roger

  • MacBook Air, 2 months old, battery can't keep power

Macbook air , 2 months old, battery cannot keep power. Using it for less than30 second, all system black out. it can be used only when plug in wire.
also battery charged very slow, 8 hours for 30%. The next day i charge another 8 hours, got another 40% so total battery is about 90% but when take of the wire, computer black out like no battery left again.

There are many third party batteries that are at best suspect.  I have seen on Amazon what appear to be legitimate OEM Apple batteries which I suspect are graymarket products.  You may try that at your own risk.  If you purchase from Apple. you will know what you will be getting and with a warranty.
    Ciao.
OWC has what appears to be a battery that will fit your MBP.  They are a reputable vendor for Mac compatible products,

  • Wife's iPhone keeps shutting off randomly and does it even when on calls, restarts and has a dark line in center of the screen then the apple logo. At times it does it several times or won't power up, and the iPhone4 is only five months old. What do we do

Have an iPhone 4 that is now shutting off randomly including during calls. The iPhone is roughly about five months old. When the iPhone shuts down and tries to restart it usually take two or three times before it stays on, but when it does it sometimes has a dark line down the center and shuts off. Not very happy about the iPhone doing this. The store we had purchased the iPhone 4 from suggested that we contact Apple to see about a replacement, or send it away for service. As you can tell we are not happy at this point since the iPhone is crucial part of our day for work and family. What should we do at this point?

    Thanks for the suggestions!
Except I tried all those before I even made this topic lol, but thanks!
I Already popped out the Sim Card & let my phone sit without it for a few minutes then put it back in. Sometimes it will work again & it will say it recognizes the SIM Card but more times then not it still says it cant recognize it! So I have to take it out & reinsert it multiple times.
& I have done a complete restore 2 times & a back up restore 3 times. Nothing seems to be working.
I am planning on going to the Apple Store this week, wish me luck!
But keep the suggestions coming if you have any, I'd appreciate it!

  • 3 month old netbook with dead hard drive!?

    It's a Mini 210-1010nr netbook.
I bought the netbook for my 13 year old son just three months ago.  Tonight he brought it into me saying it wouldn't load, so I took a look at it.  It will boot into HP quickstart but that's all.  At windows boot I get the message that a disk read error occured.  I went into the bios and ran the diagnostic utility on the hd and it says to replace the hd.  What gives?  This computer is only 3 months old!
I am in the Army and presently stationed in South Korea, so I can already imagine how much of a hastle this is going to be.
So what is my next course of action?  Should I reasonably expect HP to replace the hd?  Is this something that I can do myself?  I'm not afraid to work on computers, I've built all my desktops but have never messed with a laptop.  I've just used them till they died then replaced them.  But 3 months old?  C'mon now!

My apologies, I missed that sentence when reading through his post. Guess I've got a delayed case of the Mondays... . Yes, I realize he is in Korea, but not too much "guerilla" work can be done. I'd still recommend contacting support, in case a replacement drive can be sent out to him, perhaps they can walk him through swapping it as well.
aidenCole, your unit has a feature called a service door, which makes accessing the hard drive a little easier than on other platforms. Take a look at this video:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c02062583&tmp_task=useCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=u...
Also, look at pages 43 and 44 of your maintenance  and service guide, which can be downloaded here:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=4121202&
Before proceeding, call HP support to see if you can get a replacement drive sent to you.
    I am an HP employee.

  • My Macbook pro is not even a month old, do I need a new battery?!

I bought this laptop THIS month. It started acting up by shutting down with no warning. Just out of nowhere, a black sceen, and when I went to turn it back on, it would struggle to boot up.  I fixed this by resetting the PRAM, and then after that the battery wouldn't hold a charge, and it had to be always plugged it. Resetting the SMC fixed that just fine.  Great, everything is fixed.
    No, it's not.
the next week, my battery started to say that I should replace it now. I though that was strange, so after restting the SMC again, I started my first ever battery callibration. After the battery was completely drained and I let it sleep for around 6 hours or so, I turned it on and started to charge it and use it, and BAM. Now the battery won't charge. It's only running off of AC power right now, after only 26 cycles.
I bought a macbook because I though it would be less maintenence than my Thinkpad Edge that had a terrible build quality and messed up system registery. Now I just think I have bad laptop luck.  I don't think I have time to bring it into an Apple store soon because I'm at a University and its almost finals week... please help

the best thing for your to do - since it's only a month old is to take it to Apple and have them look at it for you.
it's under warranty - take advantage of it.
one more thing - never - ever - try to calibrate your battery or let it get fully discharge - not sure who told you to do this but it's a bad idea on macbooks with built in batteries.  as you can see from what you're experiencing right now.
good luck and hopefully you get it sorted out.
    Portables with built-in batteries
Current Apple portable computer batteries are pre-calibrated and do not require the calibration procedure outlined in this article. These computers use batteries that should be replaced only by an Apple Authorized Service Provider.

  • USB Ports on 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 do not work-even after Recovery to "Out-of-Box" state

Hello - Hoping someone can help with another suggestion- it doesn't look good.
Both USB ports on my wife's 3 month old Satellite C655-S5049 are non-functional with any USB device. Flash drives, wireless mouse, and external hard drive (powered) that all work on all of my other computers, do not work in either of this laptop's USB ports.
This problem seems to have developed gradually, and became noticeable previously as non-responsiveness in the wireless mouse, which gradually became a concern, with the computer appearing to freeze or lock-up - probably because of the number of times the mouse was clicked on shortcuts and executables before something happened.
The ports are now completely "dead"- no recognition of anything inserted once the computer is up and running.
There appears to be a thermal component involved, since I was able to get the devices recognized and working for up to a minute when booting the computer with the devices in the ports after it had been off for several hours after I did the default state recovery. The flash drive and mouse were recognized, drivers loaded message, but they then went to "unplugged" before I could get the cursor moving. I was able to access the flash drive, since I did it as soon as the driver loaded, but then it disappeared ("un-plugged" itself in the driver loaded message box). I can also get them recognized from this COLD boot state when I immediately plug them in once Windows 7 (64) loads, but they quickly disappear. If I wait a few minutes before re-booting, they flash during the Windows boot, but drop-out before it completes. If I wait 3-4 hours to re-boot, they flash (are recognized) for about a minute (Windows completely loads), but then they drop out.
I tried all of the suggestions on this board (and others) before doing a Recovery to Factory Default state. I have tried it with the original version 1.20 Bios, and with the version 1.50 Bios update. All driver updates have been downloaded and installed. The laptop does occasionally lock-up at the Toshiba screen during boot, and is verrrry slow in some operations (2 hours to do the recovery discs). The only other noticeable problem (at this time) is an occasional drop-out of wireless (Atheros AR9285) connectivity, which I have been blaming on the router since it is sporadic and infrequent (not consistent with the thermal argument). These problems are all after the Factory Default State recovery operation, so my assumption is that they are hardware based.
Any suggestions for a solution? This is a standard spec Satellite C655-S5049 that I was considering adding another 2GB memory to, but now I am unsure of its' future. A laptop cooler that runs from a USB port seems counter-productive.
I am technically capable, so you can be much briefer in your response than I have been in trying to fully detail the problems. This isn't the NVidia chip, but it does bring back memories of laptops past.
    Thanks for any help,
    G
