PC Library updating ?

All,
Can't seem to get the PC (XP O/S) to update it's library on iTunes - hence all the deleted & moved tracks still show up (deletions & moves done after iTunes installed & done with XP Explorer), even tried unistall of iTunes. NO GO. Starting to tire if this one rapidly....

You will have to do one of the 2
1) Move all the songs/files to there original location.
2) Delete the hidden iTunes pref.in file and then open iTUnes and go thru the steps like when you first installed iTunes so you will have the option of iTUnes searching for all media files again. doing this you will loose any playlist created, any ratings, playcounts and all
TO do this you will follow instructions in Scott P post here http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=607357

  • How can I force a library update without re-importing songs?

I have thousands of MP3s that are already imported into iTunes (v5.0.1.4). Unfortunately my ID tags are far from complete and I use another software package to modify them on a regular basis. The problem is that iTunes does not recognize these changes (since I suppose it has already stored the info about the MP3 in its library during the initial import). I know I can remove the MP3 from the library and re-import it, but I really don't want to do so. Is there any other way of forcing a library update?

OK. I just want it to read the info from my iTunes folder
(Edit>Preferences>Advanced>iTunes Music Folder Location) and use that to update the *itl file. My current itl file is a backup from last week, but the iTunes music folder had several additions during the last few days
    However, after renaming and running:
    Script: C:\update.js
    Line: 11
    Char: 2
Error: Object doesn't support this property or method
    Code: 800A01B6

    Welcome to the Apple Community..
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

I'm using OS Extended 10.9.5.  I don't know what the original version of iPhoto was.

Have you run the iPhoto Library Upgrader? You need to direct it to the location of your old iPhoto Library by clicking the "Choose Library" button in the lower right corner of the panel you are seeing when the upgrade starts.

  • Trouble with iPhoto Library Updater

I've read all the posts on this subject but can't find my problem. When I run the Library Updater, the libraries I want to open are greyed out. If I click on a library on the desktop, it tells me I have to install the updater. I'm stumped!

I did not sent you the email.  It was automatically sent by the ASC forum.  That is an image that I added but then delete from my last post before posting.  How it got in the email is anyone's guess.
The contents of that folder appear to be normal for an iPhoto 6 library.  You should be able to launch the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1 with the Option key held down, navigate to that folder and select it for updating.
You are saying that that  the iPhoto Italy2 library folder is grayed out in the upgrader's window?  How is the volume MEDIA formatted.  It must be OS X Extended (journaled) for iPhoto or the upgrader to work.  If that volume is not formatted correctly move the folder to your boot drive and try from there.

  • Missing photos after camera library updated itself

this morning when i went to take some photos, i went into the camera app and it did some library update which has never happened before. then i went into my camera roll just before and all my photos and videos from the last month are missing, and theres some photos that i deleted at the start of the year that are now back. so what was the update and why did it delete some of my photos? is there any way of getting them back?

  • HT204570 iCloud Photo Library Update Failing

I have a large library of photos that I'm adding to iCloud --17K+ from my MacBook Pro (running Yosemite).  The upload is failing, though, and I'm getting pretty frustrated.  The upload appears to be working for a few minutes and then randomly, and for no apparent reason, iCloud Photo Library disables itself (unchecked) and the updating is paused.  I have the ability click the Resume button but it doesn't resume the upload-- it still indicates that "iCloud Photo Library updating is paused".  Restarting the Photos app is the only way to continue the upload, but eventually, it fails.  See the screenshot attached -- I've clicked "Resume" but apparently the upload is still on paused.
Any advice or guidance would be very greatly appreciated!

I've had a similar problem.  For me the best solution is to save the photos to my Mac, and then delete them from my phone.  This does not however solve the problem with not wanting them to be gone on other devices.  Unfortunately, I do not know of a way to exclude a device from having the photo deleted off of it (Wink*Wink* Apple- iOS 9/OS X 10.11? Cough*Cough*).  Anyway as for saving space, for me, if I turn off iCloud photo library and then turn it back on again, it will make a lot of space open up.  Note: still not total space.  I assume that you have a lot of music/photos/apps or something because I have this problem on my 16 GB iPhone, but I don't see how a 64 Gb iPhone can accidentally run out of room.  In conclusion, try turning off iCloud Photo Library on and off again.  This is my best solution, and it works for me pretty well.  Anyway, I hope this helped.

You’re running an outdated copy of Safari on your Desktop. That won’t work.
    In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Applications
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-A to open the Applications folder. Check that the Safari application is in that folder. If it is, use it, and delete the copy on your Desktop. Never move or copy built-in applications.
If you've deleted Safari from the Applications folder, back up all data, then reinstall OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.

  • Pantone Library Updating

Since Pantone has started changing color values and adding new swatch books to expand their products (and add additional revenue streams), I’m finding that it’s rather difficult to update our libraries in Adobe Creative Suite applications.
This all started with the dramatic and unexpected color value conversion (RGB to LAB) from earlier versions of CS to CS5 (or CS5.5). Adobe and Pantone kept these changes under wraps and didn’t formally announce anything, not even after the changes caused havoc throughout the community.
Now it seems as though Adobe give you an older base set of Pantone colors and relies on you to invest in Pantone products to get the Pantone Color Manager software to update your libraries. I work within an advertising agency and we use many of the Pantone swatch books. Constant changes by Pantone makes it difficult for us (hundreds of users) to update our libraries. I’m currently working on these updated changes and have some questions regarding the process.
I’ve downloaded Pantone Color Manager, registered and “activated” the software. I see how to select various Pantone libraries by the “Fan Deck” option and how to “save as” that particular library. I am however, presented with many options when exporting each library and I’m not sure which to pick.
If I look into each of the Adobe Application folders and drill down to the swatch library location, each Adobe application has a different file type or additional libraries that resides in its folder. Illustrator uses ACB (Adobe Color Book) files while Photoshop has both ACB and ACO (Adobe Color). And to complicate matters more, Pantone Color Manager has selectable options for different color spaces when exporting each library. Do I select the “Lab (D50/2)”, “Lab (D65/2)” or “sRGB (D65/2)”?
The agency does digital, print and video work, so to define a particular color (D) value based on one might seem wrong since we handle 3 different mediums in which those values should be different. But then at the same time, do I download all available options and have the user select which libraries they should be using? I honestly don’t believe all our users know the differences in color temperature variances, it would only confuse them.
This is a discussion for another time, but why can’t Adobe and Pantone work more closely together to update these libraries (and include all the optional libraries) with periodic Adobe updates. It seems like there are a lot of hoops I have to go through to get updated libraries. I actually know the answer to this as a Pantone representative responded to me on this topic, but I’ll keep this posting nice.
So, back to questions I have:
How do I export these libraries for maximum compatibility between all mediums (print, digital, video)? ACO, ACB, ASE, CXF, CLR, ICC, LAB, sRGB, CMYK (Color Bridge), D50, D65?
Do I replace the libraries that already exist in the adobe application swatch folder? Or, Do I piece only newer ones?
Do I create a “Legacy” folder and keep the old libraries due to Pantone retiring colors that are still in use or used in legacy work?
How do I export the various libraries that Pantone has retired and will not allow me to export out of it’s software? They should create an “Archive” of retired libraries but still allow users to download them. To assume all print shops no longer have those inks and that professionals don’t have files/work that use them is wrong.
We are using CS6 currently, so any updates I do now I would probably have to be repeated for CC?
So many issues and questions. Sorry for the lengthy posting and thank you if you stuck in there to read all this.

While not all my questions were addressed, Pantone did responded to my initial web inquiry. I still have questions regarding Light settings (D50/D65), mass deployment, installation location (file path distribution vs user file loading), retention of older/previous libraries and CS6 vs CC library updating.
For those of you reading this that are not familiar with the "Pantone Color Manager" software that is referenced below, it is a Pantone application that contains all their current color swatches/books. This software is free for those who buy their printed books (via serial number in book). Others must pay $49 to download their software and update Adobe Pantone libraries. In my opinion, this software should be free since Adobe software users already use the Pantone swatches that are installed by default. This is probably why these updates are NOT being pushed via Adobe software updates; not because Pantone and Adobe's deployment schedules conflict (as Pantone mentioned to me). Note that once Pantone discontinues a book or color, it is no longer exportable via this software. You may want to keep a backup of all your default swatches prior to any updating if you may be using older inks/swatches/values.
    This is Pantone's response:
How can I share PANTONE Color Manager libraries with others?
While PANTONE Color Manager is single-user, the PANTONE libraries may be shared with other users without license restriction. To do this, do the following:
    Launch PANTONE Color Manager software
Open the desired library you wish to share
Go to File/Save As to open the Save As dialog
    Choose ‘Desktop’ as your location
Choose the appropriate ‘file type’ for your application:
.ase – Adobe Swatch Exchange – for Illustrator and InDesign
.aco – Adobe Color Order – for Photoshop swatch list
.acb – Adobe Color Book – for use with Adobe Color Picker within Photoshop
Click ‘save’ or ‘export’ depending on your version of PANTONE Color Manager
The file is saved to your desktop. From here, you can e-mail it to individual users or post it to a shared network folder for all to access.
To import the colors, do the following:
    Adobe Illustrator
    1. Go to Window/Swatch Libraries/Other Library
    2. Navigate to the desired .ase file and open it.
    Adobe InDesign
    1. Go to Swatches/New Color Swatch
    2. Go to Color Mode/Other Library
    3. Navigate to the desired .ase library and open it.
    Adobe Photoshop – Swatches Palette
    1. Go to Window/Swatches
    2. Click the arrow on the Swatches palette and select Load Swatches
    3. Navigate to the desired .aco file and open it.

  • Why is my Library - Updates folder so big? Where is the folder?

    Hello,
After running Disk Inventory X I have found my Library - Updates Folder is 4.8GB but i cannot access the folder to empty it.
The biggest folders all begin with zzzz. Would it be okay to delete these? What are they?
When I find the folder I can tell you more...
    Thanks

Hard drive level Library/Updates. There is a .plist there you need to keep. Do a backup, create a folder on the Desktop and drag the other files to it. Restart and make sure your computer runs normally. If so, you can delete the other files.

  • IPhoto '11 crashes on library update

iPhoto '11 crashes on library update: "using the Avilmporter plug-in"
Problem is, I don't have this plug in.
    Any suggestions?

    1. Also here, iPhoto crashed when updating the library from iPhoto 09. 94 GB, 16000 pictures in the library. With full crash report - more than I understand.
    2. Went back to my TM backup an iPhoto 09. Rebuilt library. Installed iPhoto 11, same thing.
    3. Repeated and installed 9.0.1 before updating the library, same thing. What is left of the library is only some 3 MB.
    4. Full OS install with users and programs from TM backup. Same thing. Only now I have permission issues as well.
    5. Now I have 9.0.1 and my library and am waiting for another update before going through the whole exercise again.

  • IPhoto update - Library update issues

I updated the latest iPhoto software (for one Aperture and iPhoto library). After downloading the software and starting up iPhoto, it requested to update the library, it then apparently goes through 9 steps and my Mac has been on that task for the past 20 hours. I did the same on my Macbook Pro and the library update only took a little while. The difference is that I have about 1,500 photos on my Macbook but about 30,000 on the Mac. I imagine it wojld take longer because the library is so much bigger, but mnore than 20 hours?? I'm afraid to force quit for fear of damaging or losing some of my photos.
I do not use Aperture so there can't be a conflict
    Any advise?

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • /Library/Updates/*/*.pkg files needed?

I have about 1.4GB in /Library/Updates/*/*.pkg files, e.g., /Library/Updates/zzz061-8089/MacOSXUPdCombo10.6.3.1.1.pkg.  I presume that this was installed a while back, because I am already at 10.6.8 .
are these pkg files still needed?  if not, why does OSX not clean them up after installation or at least after a while??
    sincerely,
    /iaw

Because they are small and might be needed again when a user reinstalls their OS, then the download doesn't have to occur from the servers it can just use those again.

  • Viewer Library Update Errors

Starting this morning, my sideloaded mutli-folio libraries are failing to update. I just get a spinning "Library Updating" icon in the middle of the screen and after about 2 minutes of spinning, I get a error "Connot Update Library An error has occurred."

  • GnomeMeeting and Anjuta crashing after library update

    Hello everybody,
I've just encountered a tricky problem. With all the recent updates, GnomeMeeting and Anjuta don't work any more.
    This is what GnomeMeeting says:
*** WARNING *** The programme 'gnomemeeting' uses the Apple Bonjour compatiblity layer of Avahi.
*** WARNING *** Please fix your application to use the native API of Avahi!
*** WARNING *** For more information see <http://0pointer.de/avahi-compat?s=libdns_sd&e=gnomemeeting>
gnomemeeting: compat.c:377: DNSServiceRefSockFD: Předpoklad `sdref' nesplněn.
Vyskytlo se několik chyb 'segmentation fault'; nemohu zobrazit chybový dialog
It says that something called 'sdref' was expected. Furtheremore, there have been multiple segmentation faults, which blocked the error dialog window.
    These are Anjuta's complaints:
    (anjuta:9815): libglade-CRITICAL **: glade_xml_build_interface: assertion `wid != NULL' failed
    (anjuta:9815): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
    ** (anjuta:9815): CRITICAL **: anjuta_preferences_add_page: assertion `GTK_IS_WIDGET (page)' failed
Both problems appeared after major library updates. If some of you know how to fix this, please be so kind and give me a piece of advice.
Shell I submit this as a bug report? (Most bugs occur somewhere between the chair and the keyboard. Perhaps I've misconfigured or forgotten something.)

Does someone know if there's allready such a patch for other apps like gtkam & gphoto2 ?
    Got same issue here with gphoto2-2.2.0 & gtkam-0.1.12-1 :

  • IPhoto  9.4.2 Library Update failed

I have upgraded iPhoto from version 8.1.2 to version 9.4.2-
When I start iPhoto it requests a Library update.
The update starts but after some seconds the program gets killed.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
