PCMover

I used this PCMover software to move everything from my old computor to my new one including applications. My Itune files got moved however when I try and open Itunes I get a windows error message telling me that Itunes had to close. When I report the error to Microsoft nothing happens.
I have downloaded and reinstalled Itunes several times and it still does it.
What should i try?

Nevermind - after reading through all these discussions I found that my quicktime was corrupt - I unstalled both quicktime and Itunes and reinstalled them both - I am back in business and my entire library is there!
PCMover really works...

  • ITunes Unable to Run After Migration to New PC Using Laplink PCMover

A few days ago, I used Laplink PCMover to migrate my programs from my old Dell to my new one (both running Windows XP Pro).
Unfortunately, PCMover does not correctly move iTunes (but is was very successful at moving everything else).
So I uninstalled iTunes on the new computer and deleted all my music files (I can transfer them later using my external hard drive). Then I re-downloaded iTunes from the website, installed it, and it STILL won't run. I repeated the process just to make sure, and it still won't run. The standard error box pops up: "iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience."
I suspect there is some license issue or maybe a registration issue. Or something! It's so frustrating.
My iPod has never been attached to the new computer.
I contacted PCMover, who said to undo the migration, uninstall iTunes on old computer, and then run the mirgration again (which takes hours and which restores new computer to "its original state" which, after four days, means I may lose a lot of new material).
Would appreciate any help you can give me.
    Thanks!
    Felicia

You're dealing with a lot of registry issues and the like, more than likely. It's never a good idea to transfer installed programs from one computer to another. Those programs do more harm than good, in my opinion. I'd backup anything new you've done and resinstall Windows. It may be a pain, but add your programs manually. It's more healthy.

  • Elements moved by PCMover

I installed a licenced copy of Photoshop Elements 8.0 on computer A, running Vista. That computer started to fail, so I moved everything via PCMover to computer B, running Win7 64bit. The new installation on computer B does not get past the “Organize – Edit” startup screen, so I cannot uninstall or deactivate it, which is what I want to do so I can do a complete operating and valid install on computer B.  How do I force a complete uninstall/deactivation of the useless installation on computer B? It is impossible to get any contact with Adobe by any written means, and using the support site just goes round in crcles

With no clickable link to find out what the 3rd feature is (bottom of the page) there is no way right now to know exactly what is going to be added to the Photoshop/Premiere Elements bundle... and there is no pricing to know if it will be low enough to entice people to pay a monthly fee instead of buying the bundle outright
What I will say, based on the problem questions in the Cloud forum (which are, of course, only a tiny percentage of all Cloud users) is that once the new bundle is actually available, there will be some number of questions here (or in a new forum?) asking how to get the download and install to work... which will create a new kind of mess, unless some Adobe staff monitor this (or new forum?) to answer the new kinds of questions

  • PCMover and iTunes.... read before using PCMover

the following is a chat with PCMover.... I have itunes on my new computer, but cannot use it because of the 32 bit vs 64 bit. I discovered the problem two months after using PCMover....
Ken Hughes: would you like me to put something on apple support stating to not use PCMover for itunes, it does not work and no support is available. I can do that as a courtesy for PCMover. not to defame the product but to prevent people from having this issue.
Chat Support: We have seen some users being able to uninstall Itunes and its components and then reinstall them, however we suggest best not to migrate Itunes if the new PC is win 64
Chat Support: instead install Itunes 64 in the new PC and migrate the settings only
Ken Hughes: I have tried doing the uninstall... I get the message that I need the installer for 64 bit
Ken Hughes: I have not found the messasge/information on PCMover that says to not use PCMover with itunes.
Chat Support: Pcmover does not have buit messages to warn about every program that will not work in the new OS
    Ken Hughes: You should !
Ken Hughes: my suggestion is to display known issues
Chat Support: I will add that suggestion to the suggestiong list the dev team has for PCmover
Ken Hughes: then you can decrease the number of disgruntled users
Ken Hughes: I strongly suggest not using PCMover, better off to not move and discover the errors later
Ken Hughes: Product souds great, just causes unrecoverable errors
Ken Hughes: Great .... I think that all itunes users need to be aware of the issues and be aware that there is no known solution. Once you use PCMover, you options are to undo the move (if you discover it immediately) or to just live with no iTunes on your new computer.
Chat Support: no, second choice is to install Itunes 64 in the new PC then migrate
Ken Hughes: But you must first know that there will be a problemn with itunes from the PCMover software... and if you do not use itunes for two or three months... then you have a major problem. Are there other software that also have problems caused by PCMover?
Chat Support: any program with copy protection, mainly Adobe and Intuit products
Ken Hughes: great to know now, after thwo or three months....
Ken Hughes: My advice is for the buyer to not use PCMover

PCMover works fine.  It's a Microsoft issue.
Use MS's utility at the link below.  Uninstall everything Apple, Bonjour, and iTunes.  Download the install to the desktop.  Right click and run it as Administrator.

  • ITunes won't open after moving to new PC; quicktime.cpl corrupt?

I used PCMover to move my files and applications to my new PC. After this, iTunes 6 wouldn't open. I installed 7.0.2 over 6, but it won't open either. The process starts, then I receive a message saying iTuens has encountered a problem and needs to close. The iTunes display never appears.
    So far I have:
Rebooted (several times, at various points in the below processes)
Uninstalled and re-installed iTunes 7.0.2 (several times)
Attempted to uninstall Quicktime. The uninstall will not finish, saying it encountered a fatal error. Quicktime will not run, either.
Re-installed Quicktime. It still will not run or uninstall.
    Repaired Quicktime. No change.
Tried to open the QuickTime control panel. This fails with the error "An exception occurred while trying to run "C:Windows\system32\shell2.dll,Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\system32\QuickTime.cpl",QuickTime"
Anyone know how I can get QuickTime and iTunes to work? Thanks.
    Dell Dimension   Windows XP

Attempted to uninstall Quicktime. The uninstall will not finish, saying it encountered a fatal error. Quicktime will not run, either.
when a QuickTime uninstall throws that message at folks, it's usually best to try completely scraping the itunes and QuickTime program files and installation configuration information from the PC, and doing a careful staged reinstall afterwards.
try the technique in the following post. (it includes instructions on what to do if Add/Remove isn't letting you uninstall one of the programs.)

  • ITunes recognizes iPod but can't sync - driver missing?

Here's the rundown. Several months ago, the complete content of the old XP machine where this iPod's library resided was migrated to a Windows 7 Home Premium system using LapLink PC Mover.  iTunes had never previously been installed on the Windows 7 unit.  iTunes appeared to be functional afterwards, but on the first and all subsequent instances of attempting to sync the iPod, clicking on the Sync button did and still does nothing.  I have tried connecting the iPod to multiple different motherboard-based and pcie-based USB ports, and to a USB2.0 external hub. (Sometimes the screen briefly flashes as though it was switching to the sync process monitor, but usually it's just no change.)  I've tried uninstalling all of the Apple software from the machine, rebooting, and reinstalling.  (When I say "all", that includes iTunes itself, Bonjour, Apple Software Update, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update, in that order.  Trying any other order produced complaints.  Quicktime is not installed on this machine; iTunes and the iPod are not used for video.)  In looking at the postings of others who have had similar issues, I found a recommendation to reinstall another driver that I have verified is not loading and is not running with the iPod hooked up:  Apple Mobile Device USB Driver.  I have tried to reinstall this driver, but it hasn't worked.  What I have come to suspect is that something in the Windows registry got borked during the transfer, and is causing the load process for the *needed* driver to fail, possibly by trying to load the old XP version.  But my registry-fu is not strong in this, so I'm looking to see if anyone else has run across this issue previously and found a solution.
    Points to note:
Windows 7, installation was a port from XP via LapLink PCMover
5th gen classic iPod 80Gb with 34Gb free
iTunes version 11.4.0.18 is installed  (This was the current version when I started trying to find the problem.)
Apple Mobile Device Support software is loaded.
Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is NOT loading, either before or while the iPod is connected.
In Device Manager, the iPod appears as a Disk Drive and as a Portable Device when connected, but does not appear in the Universal Serial Bus Controllers list.
iTunes recognizes the iPod and can access it sufficiently to verify that it does not need to be updated.
    iTunes can eject the iPod.
    iTunes cannot sync the iPod.

I can now expand the information somewhat.  On my second, very similar setup (5th gen Classic connected to Win 7/32 with iTunes 11.4.0.18) I was able to successfully do the initial sync of the iPod several weeks ago, but this afternoon, when I tried to sync it to include the music I had added recently, it failed in the same manner as the other system.  I really, really, really DO NOT want to downgrade to iTunes 12 with it's horrible antinavigation interface and lack of the very useful and needed Sidebar, but it is beginning to look like 11.4.0.18 is problematic, and I don't have an installer for anything else at present.

  • I am unable to uninstall Itunes 9.1.79, nor install Itunes 10.2.2

When I upgraded my computer, I installed what was supposed to be the 64 Bit version of Itunes. It said I needed to install the 64 Bit installer. Now it will neither run, uninstall, or let me install the same or the later version. Have tried deleting Itunes, uninstalling it, and nothing seems to work. Also uninstalled (successfully)  QuickTime.

Good lord. Sorry Bob, I only just realised we've already talked about this over at the other thread. (I even thought here "oh, someone else called Bob" without realising it was the same Bob.)
So it's the PC Mover thing we discussed over there (where PC Mover has jammed a 32-bit version of iTunes on the 64-bit system, and that can't uninstall itself from the 64-bit system). Do check in with the PCMover folks to see if they've got a better solution nowadays than a total revert of the migration, and then a remigration (this time without migrating across any of the 32-bit iTunes-and-associated-software-components).

  • Adobe cs3 won't install on Windows 7(32-bit)!

A friend of mine finally convinced me to install Windows 7, and he had good reason to. This OS really lives up to the hype thats been going on...but, Im having trouble installing an ESSENTIAL program(s) to this great OS, Adobe CS3 Design Premium. I installed Windows 7 (32-bit) from a DVD, with the product key, which I think is the "clean install" Ive been hearing about. I read something that says Windows 7 doesn't recognize a certain file associated with Cs3, maybe thats why it wont load. I attached a screen shot of my system specs, if it helps. But this is what happened.
    - When I insert the software DVD, the autoplay feature pops up, then Windows "User Account Control" asks me if I want to allow the changes.
    - I click "Yes," and then the "Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium" window pops up and gives me the option to: Install CS3 Design Premium; Install Adobe Acrobat 8; and Browse CD.
    - I choose "Install CS3" and then a window "Initializing Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Premium" with a progress bar.
    - The bar fills up, but when it finishes nothing happens.
I checked the tasked manager and see that, that adobe setup.exe is running somehow, but nothing happens. I have search on Adobe forums and google for possible solutions, but nothing has worked so far. I have tried:
    - Runnning the setup application from the DVD (in Adobe Design Premium CS3 folder) as "Administrator"
    - Ran "wincs3clean," to remove any existing adobe programs from the system.
    - Ran ccleaner, to fix/repair any registry problems or anything else.
    - Tried copying the content of the DVD onto the desktop and run it as Admin.
    - Used the command.exe (as admin) and ran the "regsvr32 jscript.dll" and "regsvr32 vb(something)"
    - Ran Windows 7 in "simplified" mode, where I disabled any services/processes from interferring with the setup, through the msconfig feature.
    - Cleared the Windows temporary files, as this was a solution for Vista, I thought might work.
    - Tried updating my drivers, everything was uptodate.
    - Called Adobe Technical support, waited about 30 mins, and then was told "Adobe does not support Windows 7, so the install may or maynot work." (They could help if they wanted to).
    - Tried restarting in a previous version, to see if it would install, but the admin password that I had before isnt working now for some reason.
Ive seen reports of people having Adobe CS3 installed on Windows 7 and working fine, so I know its possible. Its just frustrating that I cant get it to work. Somebody (bodies), please help me. Let me know if there is any other info needed. Ive struggling with this for some time now.
    Thanks A-Mil in advance,
    Gary D.

i am having very similar issues and after working on this for days i'm ready to trash all Adobe products..   i've been in DP for 35 years and have never had this much trouble with anything - ever.
i migrated to a new machine using windows 7 from and XP machine.  i used PCmover to port applications and all are working just fine except my Adobe CS3 products.   When i try to open them i get some sort of message about catastophic licensing problem and the product immediately closes.  i'd detail the error but it's only up for about  4 milliseconds before it disappears.
so i tried reinstalling CS3 and it loads the autoplay just fine and then i click on 'install adobe cs3' icon and see the progress bar moving for about 2 secons and then that disappears and then NOTHING.
so i found suggestions about using the CS5 cleaner tool and ran that bout it didn't even find the application..
so i went to control panel and clicked on 'uninstall' for CS3 and it seems run for about 3 seconds and then NOTHING..
so i installed a windows cleanup tool that was recommended but that's been retired by Microsoft because it caused other problems so i didn't run it..
short of formatting my hard drive and starting over installing over 50 apps on my new computer, i'm at a loss and so extremely frustrated with Adobe that i am willing to learn another set of programs to replace them and to tell the world.

  • Installing VPN Client 5.0.07.0240 on Win 7 Pro 64 bit error 1720

I purchased a new laptop last week. It is Win 7 Pro SP1 64 Bit. Old laptop Win XP Pro. Used Laplink's PCMover to move apps rather than to have to re-install. One of the apps was VPN Client 4.8.02.0010 This app did not work properly on new pc after migration. Had customer send me VPN Client 5.0.07.0240 for 64 Bit. They did so. I installed. I believe it uninstalled the old (migrated) VPN Client but did not do the install of the new VPN Client. Every time I attempt to install, I get error 1720. There is a problem with this Windows Installer Package.A script required for this install to complete could not be run. I called Cisco support and they led me here. I am pretty desperate, been trying to get this done for 18 hours. The reason I called support was I thought I could purchase my own VPN Client, whichever one would be best for me to access several sites that use Cisco VPN's (I have sites that use openvpn, etc), perhaps AnyConnect that I have seen herein, and then Cisco could help me install the client. If that is a good path to take, please let me know, otherwise how do I get this vpn client installed, please. John

    Hello John, and everyone.
I am aslo face this issue. I tried to install software cisco VPN client "vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9.exe" in my customer's labtop that installed window 7 64bit and it shows message  "cisco vpn client not support 64bits". but why in descript say that  "vpnclient-winx64-msi-5.0.07.0290-k9.exe"
"VPN Client Software for x86 64-bit version of Vista/Windows 7 - Microsoft Installer"and when I tried to install it why it shows message can not support with 64 bits? what wrong ? Do anyone have experiences with this issue?
Could anyone help me on this issue or do anyone have other version of Cisco vpn client that can support with window 7 64 bits?
I am happy to see your ideas and answers!!
    Thanks

  • Photoshop CS5 and Bridge CS5

I recently purchased a new PC and transferred Photoshop CS5 from my old PC to the new PC via PCmover Professional and a Laplink USB cable attached to both PC's. The transfer appeared to work without a hitch until I tried to open Bridge CS5 from within Photoshop CS5 without success. I then opened Bridge separately  which worked fine but I cannot open any of my photos in Bridge to edit them. What can I do to fix this problem?

I am not a PC expert, but I think most users would highly recommend a clean install rather than a copied one.
CS5 installs in numerous directories on the C drive and it may not get all the directories copied.
I would uninstall and install from the disk or the copy you hopefully saved of the download.
Be sure to deactivate you old copy also.

  • Error 1310. Error writing to file....Verify that you have access to that directory

    Hi
My system is running Win 7 Professional 32 bit with 4gig RAM
I am experiencing a problem installing a piece of software - Laplink PC Mover - I need to migrate to my new machine.
The installer starts and the grinds to a halt with the error message:
"Error 1310. Error writing to file: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Laplink PCMover Professional\Visit Laplink.com.url. Verify that you have access to that directory"
I understand from Laplink Tech Support that this is a generic Windows Installer problem, and searching the web it seems to crop up a lot.
I have done a lot of searching, including this site.
I have tried the solutions I have found so far:
Run as Administrator [my user profile has administrator rights but I tried that anyway]
Run from the Administrator user account
Install in Safe Mode - Windows tells me the installer is not available in safe mode!!!
Un-registering and re-registering the installer via msiexec
Using the SubInACL tool to repair file and registry permissions
After all of this, I get the same result - the installer halts with the same message.
Can anybody help? I am desperate to avoid two days solid re-installing all my expensive software, finding product keys etc.

    Hi,
You can test in Clean Boot mode to avoid the software conflicts, in experience, some anti-virus program would lead this corruption.

  • Finding missing photos

I recently purchased a new Windows 7 computer and upgraded to LR3.3 at the same time. I used Laplink PCmover to transfer my files over to the new machine. I was using multiple external drives to store photos, I installed a dedicated 2 TB internal drive for photos only and moved all of the images onto one location for LR to reference. I will use the external drives for backups. As others on this forum have found, all of my LR files were grayed out. After doing some research, I have a better understanding of how Lightroom works and how to restore.
I have been using the "Photo is Missing" icon on individual photos in the gallery with the "Find Nearby Missing Photos" selected. Sometimes dozens of photos are restored, often all taken on the same day and in the same folder. However, too often...they come back only one at a time, even though there are others from the same date in the same file. Any ideas on why this happens?
I have over 22,000 more photos to restore! Has anyone found a way to automate this process?
Thank you in advance for your help.

I structure folders for ease of back up as I would always use LR to locate image files, far quicker than any other method. I have one folder called original files, with another folder for each year , all files are imported into date based folder under that. This is backed up to an external drive every week and an on line back up runs every night.
I have the same structure for other types of files such as videos (I don't use LR for videos as I shoot in AVCHD) and use Bridge for these searching by metadata again rather than by using folders. Folders are a pretty poor way of structuring files a left over from out dated operating systems., so just ensure that folders are kept simple and easy to back up, use more sophisticated metadata based searches through LR or Bridge for locating files when they are required.

  • Is there a recommended sequence of actions to move Firefox to a new PC?

I've read the queries regarding moving bookmarks, history, etc, to the new PC using SYNC. Am I correct in presuming that I need to 1)..install Firefox on the new PC, 2)..run SYNC on the old PC and then 3)..run SYNC on the new PC?
Alternatively..would using a tool such as LapLink PCMover do the same for me?
And since we have multiple user accounts on both the old PC (windows XP) and the new (Windows 7) will each user need to be synced individually or will one cycle put our separate bookmarks where they belong?

Sync is a useful technology, but I wouldn't rely just on that.
I suggest making at least a complete copy of all current Firefox profile folders. These are located here (this is a path you can paste into Start > Run):
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles
Note that if you have multiple Windows accounts, you will want to do this for each user (the %APPDATA% shortcut is always for the currently logged in user).
Later, you can refer to these articles for recovering their contents:
    * [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]]
    * [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]
(''You may find a similarly named set of folders under Local Settings. That's the cache, nothing important there.'')
