PDA Profile ??

Hola, quera saber si se encuentra ya desarrollado el PDA Profile?, Y si este aade funcionalidad grafica a J2ME, semejante a la que utiliza .NET.
Hi, I would like know if PDA Profile is already develop functionalityed. And if it add graphic functionality to J2ME, that forms, panels, etc.

The PDA Profile changed during the JSR progression into the PDA Optional Packages. It consists of two optional packages, PIM (Personal Information Management) and FileConnection. These two packages can be implemented independently but give either a MID Profile or Personal Profile device the PDA access a lot of developers wanted.
See the JSR web site

  • Jeode and PDA Profile (PDAP)  PIM classes

Are there classes like the PDA Profile Classes available for Jeode PersonalJava 1.2 ??
This J2ME class can eg. access the contact list:
"Contact" Represents a single Contact entry in a PIM Contact database.
    or the todo list:
"ToDoList" Represents a ToDo list containing ToDo elements.

is something similar available for Jeode PersonalJava 1.2 ???

No but PersonalJava allow you to have your own implementation on this.

  • Implementation of Shared Libraries on Palm Using J2ME

    Hi,
I am currently working on the Palm Shared Libraries using C...Kind of drag....so I wonder is there any way to implement this on the Palm using J2ME...
    Thanks and Regards,
    Joseph

From memory, I dont think that J2ME provides a an implementations at the moment that can access the Palm shared libraries, it's too specific for the generic implementation of MIDP, although I've heard of a PDA profile that SUN is working on, may or may not be true , but it's worth checking out : )

  • J2ME - Pocket PC: neded advices on how to plan the application

    Hi,
I plan to port to the Pocket PC platform an e-commerce application I developed using JSP/Servlet with BC4J (some pages use direcltly JDBC).
My actual web application has those architecture and features:
    - the database is Oracle 8.1.6;
    - the output of the application is HTML (no use of Applets), with some JavaScript and css StyleSheets;
    - the application has the standard features of an online-shop, such as shopping cart management, product search;
    - the application gives to the customer other informations, such as order-tracking, sending of news documents to the customers, ecc...
My PDA application should have this features:
    - on-line and off-line work (connected to the Internet or to a local replica of the database);
    - Only the shopping features are requested.
I have some doubts on the best strategy to follow to develop such an application:
    - Which database to use (Oracle lite or XML files or ???) to store the data on the PDA?
    - How to manage the data replication?
    - For the on-line work, I think that the user can connect to the standard Web Application (or to an optimized version for little screens). What is your opinion?
    - For the off-line work, I am not sure which GUI to use for the client (HTML or Swing)? I read on this forum about problems with css with Pocket IE; have I to avoid the use of css stylesheets?
    - If I write my application using BC4J, how big will be all the application in Mb (jars, application server, etc...)?
    - Which software do I need for the development and for the deployment (I am now downloading the J2ME Extension and Viewlets)?
    - Other issues I have to care about?
All help and/or samples and/or useful links/readings are welcome.
    Thanks,
    Marco.

    Marco,
Considering the processing capabilities of a Pocket PC, I wouldn't go for J2ME, with is mostly dedicated to the cell phones. The PDAP (PDA Profile) for J2ME is not available yet, and your UI would look pretty poor on a Pocket PC as the only available profile so far is the MIDP (Mobile Information Device Profile).
The other solutions you suggest sound much better, like Oracle Lite. OLite has native synchnronization capabilities with Oracle Enterprise Edition, and that would address your replication needs. Plus it provides a connected/disconnect feature for HTTP/Servlet/HTML that makes the user work transparent. I do beleive that this is avalaible for the Pocket PC as well.
You should serach OTN this way for white papers, demos and sample code.
Please let us know if you need more information,
    Olivier

  • File reader application

what are the cellphones compatible with an application with:
    - an MIDP 2.0 profile
    - CLDC 1.0 configuration
    - Mobile Media API (JSR 135) Wireless Messaging API 1.1 (JSR 120)?
and also with PDA profile for J2ME?
how can i make an application that displays files with .txt extension on cellphones from the PC?
    please help me. thanks.

    Hi
I think there’s no “file explorer application and reader folder xperia”!
There’s only an app named “File transfer”…
or  you can use “file explorers” of other apps (like OfficeSuite, if available, to navigate on folders…)
The only real solution, is to download an app from Play Store.
I use “File Manager”(Explorer) or “File Manager HD”(Tablet) (Rhythm Software) free.

  • Any chance to play streamed 3gp/RM on mobile ?

    Hi,
we have streamed rm (or 3gp) video files which we play on Symbian phones.
Is there any chance to play them on J2ME ?
(I know that there were discussions on this topic here already, but I didn't fined any clear answer/pointer to solution)
    Michal

    hai
Firstly if you are using a nokia device especially 60series you will find it bit difficult
to play it.Only a limited set of nokia 60 series plays the streamed 3gp files.it will be better if you check inside the nokia specifications for all the nokia 60 serires phones ie go to resources on your lefthand side check out the device you need to check.
The pda profile for j2me is jsr75 is clearely mentioned in wireless toolkit if you are using MIDlets.
I think the supported 60 series is nokia 6630 try with that i hope you will get the result.
i DONT know wheather i made myself clear
    bye

  • J2ME for Palm GUIs

    Dear all,
I just got laid off, and part of the compensation was a Palm Pilot.
So I figured I might as well learn something new and try it out and
as a Java programmer I wanted to use Java.
It seems to me at a first glance that J2ME is a bit cheap with GUI
    components though. No tables etc...
So what if I want to use tables, do I convert into c programming? =)
    Erik

    hiya:
if you are talking about MIDlets (a part of J2ME), then yes, it is a bit limited in the GUI department, mainly because it is actually targeted at resource constrained devices such as cell phones, pagers, etc (although it can be run on Palms, something called the PDA Profile is going to be specifically for Palm devices soon.
    http://www.blueboard.com/j2me/family.htm
you can have fine control over the positioning of objects using the low level APIs, but for UI items like textbox, etc, you will use the High level API, where you have somewhat limited control over the placement of the items across different devices.

  • To StrongArm or Not to StrongArm?

For people who are interested in personal java programming, what processor is best in terms of power of CPU and availablility of the latest pjava? Initially I thought StrongArm processor was the way to go. But then I find out that the early access version which is based on the older version (JDK1.1) is more than a year old.
The newer version (JDK1.2.x) is available only for the MIPS and SH3 processor. I looked at PDA with these processor and found them to be low on memory. Then I looked at the latest PDA models from the same company and I found that they are based on StrongArm processor.
This is very confusing. All the latest models seems to be based on StrongArm and yet SUN would not release their latest version of pJava on StrongArm.
Any Ideas's on which processor to aim while buying a PDA?

I've developed some apps in a Symbol PDT 8100 (which uses the StrongArm processor) using the version of personal java that I downloaded from "Early Access". It works quite fine, but it's still a betha version and it looks like Sun had forgotten StrongArm in the newer releases.
There are other JVMs for the StrongArm which support more modern jdk releases, like the CrEme's one that you can find in http://www.creme.com, but that's a comercial solution.
Anyway, StrongArm processor is being using in nearly all new PDAs, so, either Sun will make a port por Personal Java to StrongArm, or surely when the PDA Profile for CDC were release, we'll find a StrongArm version.

  • Is PersonalJava dead?

I am feeling, that pjava is dead. Sun support seems to be at least 2 years old. What's going on in the future?
    Thanks!

Personal Profile is a J2ME superset of the Personal Basis Profile which includes the functionality of the Personal Java specification. So, if you write an application which runs on a PJ VM (such as Insignia's Jeode), it will also run on future implementations of the J2ME CDC/Personal Profile platform. Insignia has already indicated that it will support Personal Profile in Jeode (at some indeterminate point in the future.) Sun/Sharp/etc. have also indicated that they will be providing support on the Zaurus (Linux/Qt based PDA) for the Personal Profile spec. So, there is a fair amount of confidence that applications currently written in Personal Java will have support going forward for some time at least.
The wildcard is the J2ME PDA Profile specification. It hasn't been released yet, but supposedly there will be support for it on both the PocketPC and Palm OS. PJ apps will not run on this specification. Since Palm has moved to ARM-based processors and larger memory sizes, the PDA Profile may end up being too little too late when it finally arrives. I believe that the PDA Profile does support MIDP (and I think Jeode will support MIDP). So depending on what kind of functionality you need, you may be better off going with CLDC/MIDP. Target devices would include not only Palm and PocketPC devices, but also cellphones and similar devices.
If you are strictly focused on high-end PDA's, your best bet right now is Personal Java. If you can get a copy of Jeode... ;)

  • Personal Java For PalmOS

Is there a Java VM for the Palm OS and how do I get it. I would like a free one if possible.

Currently, there is no Personal Java VM for the PalmOS. The present Palm hardware doesn't meet the PJ spec minimum requirements. The MIDP4Palm download is a J2ME/CLDC implementation which allows you to build MIDP applications.
The new Palm Tungsten series includes a new, faster processor, but current configurations lack sufficient memory to implement a full PJ spec. The upcoming PDA profile will most likely also support MIDP applications and will, presumably, have implementations on both Palm and PocketPC PDAs. (maybe even Linux based pdas as well.)
There are no reported plans for a PalmOS, Personal Java or the succeeding "J2ME/CDC/Personal Profile" implementation in the future.
If you need to develop for the PalmOS, MIDP is your best choice right now. If you need to develop in Personal Java, go with PocketPC, if you can get a Personal Java VM for it...

  • J2ME, PDA Linux, GPRS, profiles ?

    Excuse my english, i'm french...
    Hello,
I am actually searching for tools allowing me to transpose an application Java developed with J2SE to an application which turns onto a PDA which I think will be the Zaurus 5500.
My application must synchronize regularly to a Mysql Database on a server. The existant application (which run on computers) is designed with Swing.
First, I want a PDA who has Linux OS and GPRS. In your opinion, what version of Zaurus would be the best ?
I know that on the Zaurus equiped of bluetooth technology we can connect via mobile phone equiped of GPRS to Internet, but is-there a best solution ?
Concerning profiles, what is the best choice for you between Personal Profile and PersonalJava ?
Finally, Is There Swing like Package for J2ME and so mobile phone programming ?
    Sincerely.
    Thank you

Original Jeode at Zaurus is quite powerful, however it doesn't have Swing, so you shoud stuck with AWT. You can port Swing and some people did, but it isn't for such small devices. When get Zaurus, do not switch to OpenZaurus, at least extract Jeode, since kaffe doesn't work well Personally, I'm working on moving j2ee to Zaurus, I hope I am no alone, and some companies do something similar.

  • How to force a restore of contacts and calendar events from Palm Profile? (and memos and tasks!)

Yesterday I had to do a partial erase restart of my beloved Palm Pre.  In the past I have had to do full data restorations, and have had no problems at all.  This time, however, my Pre did not recover the dozens of contacts saved in my Palm Profile, nor did it recover any of the Palm Profile calendar events (and all my memos are gone, as well as tasks).  I've tried using the "synch" button in the contacts preferences dialog box, but it did nothing.  Does anyone know if it is possible to "force" a full recovery of your data from the Palm Profile backup, or if there is a way to access that data online somehow?  Much of my contact data I have successfully migrated through seven previous Palm PDAs and phones...it would be too painfully ironic if I've now lost all of that data just because I bought a Palm Pre and trusted the Profile backup system...
Post relates to: Pre p100eww (Sprint)

It's 12 am eastern time, and their servers are still down. This is strike 2 for the Palm pre (webOS) for me.

  • Portege R400 - A2DP profile is not working using BT Stack 5.10.12

    Hi,
I am trying to get my Toshiba R400 connected to the Logitech Wireless Music station. I can find the device, but while pairing, it says something like error while connecting with remote device, please try again. It doesn't ask for a passkey unlike my pda, where pairing works just fine.
This only happens with A2DP profile, using headset profile, the stack ask me to push a button on my headset to confirm that everything is working. But there is no button to confirm on a media receiver. It's not really a headset. So I'm stuck hearing the ringing sound but no way to confirm. I don't want to use that profile anyway because I want to stream music, so I wanted to try it with a different stack. But how do I do that? When I uninstall the stack, everything "bluetooth" is gone in the device manager. I can't the device at all.
I'm using Vista Ultimate 32Bit and the BT Stack 5.10.12. It would be great if someone can tell me.
    Thanks!

What you can try is to check the following setting:
Right-mouse-click on the Bluetooth systray icon -> Options...->Security-> Custom Level->Mode: Link level enforced security
Try setup again. You can switch back to Standard security if your setup was successful.

  • How do I syncronize a PDA with PC? (activesync/web service?)

    Hi!
    Short intro:
I’m currently working in a project with the goal to create a program where a user is collecting data in the field with a PDA. When the user has returned to his office, the stored data in the PDA is to be added to a central database when the PDA is docked.
    Longer explanation:
The PDA is going to be used for inputing field data into our program. When the user then returns to his office, he want’s to dock his PDA, and with minimal effort, add the collected data to a big central database. The database and pc client software is allready existing and has been used for a while. The user is expected to have none to very little previous experience with computers. The data collected is security critical and hence no Bluetooth, IR, WiFi can be used to transfer the data to the database. The users requires that we use docking
The PDA has to be developed with J2ME (that’s why I’m here =)). No platform for the program has been decided yet, but it would be preferred that the program could be run on both PalmOS and PocketPC. If both OSs is to be used, I guess the PDA program has to comply to CLDC/MIDP 2.0, since this is the best PalmOS can do. But, it is no problem to develop just for PocketPC if there is an easy way of syncing data using CDC + additional profiles.
My/our background: We have developed software in Java, but have no experience with J2ME and programming for PDAs.
    Question:
I need help with transfering the collected data from the PDA to our client software on the PC. As I understand it, the MIDP 2.0 profile (or CDC+profiles), does not implement any support for PalmOS’s/PocketPC’s hotsync/active sync. Is there a way to easily utilize these functions? Maybe with the help of additional Java APIs? I have done some research and as I understand it is complicated to transfer data this way.But more input on the subject is highly appreciated.
Another option I have just heard of is developing a secure web service and utilize the central network used for all the offices where the software is to be used. I have no experience with web services, anyone who can think of a flexible secure solution using web services?
I would like to thank you all in advance, especially you who provide me with some usable help :D.
    /Andreas

Maybe I should post this question in another section?

  • PDA RAM memory usage

    Hi all,
We have created a PDA application running on <b>SAP Mobile Infrastructure 2.5 Service Pack 18 Patch 1</b> on <b>Windows Mobile 5 </b>and Windows Mobile 2003 SE.
    <b>Problem description:</b>
The problem is the RAM memory size. For WM 2003 there is no problem because there are enough PDA's with 128 mb RAM size, but the problem is there is no normal PDA running on WM 5 with 128 mb RAM size. There are only devices with 64 mb RAM.
So we are having some problems with the RAM size, and I want to watch what is in the RAM and I want to see the usage of the RAM easily when I use my application. I can switch to the Settings --> Memory and see the values, but this is not reliable and I only see the usage and not what's in the RAM.
    <b>Questions:</b>
    - Is there a tool to watch the memory and what's in the memory?
    - Can someone give me some information how we can store less in RAM and more in ROM without getting a slower application?
    Thanks in advance,
    Bart Elshout

    hi bart,
had you tried profiling you application? profiling will help you in looking which
portion of the code was consuming a lot of RAM and time.
some common ways to counter heavy application
    1) lazy loading
this is very effective in a sense that only the classes required for certain
functionalities are loaded and instantiated. this can be realized by using reflection
    and customized class loaders.
    2) avoid caching smartsync data
when using smartsync, i don't recommend caching of your syncbo data. the lower
layer already have a cache (esp fileIO).
    3) avoid rewrapping if possible
wrapping a syncbo or row into another class will make your class instance bigger.
and caching the fields in it, again will also consume some RAM.
that's only for the part of the data. now you have to consider your UI also. are you
    using any UI framework?
    regards
    jo
