PDF embedded in Word 2007 won't open in final PDF

Hello -- I've embedded a PDF into a Word 2007 doc using Insert > Object > Create from File (and displayed as an icon).  I can double-click to open the PDF while in Word, but after converting the file to PDF (using the "Create PDF" function, not printing to PDF), the "embedded" PDF is just a picture of the icon -- nothing opens.  I've used the same procedure previously and had no problem opening the embedded file, and I don't think I changed any settings anywhere...but obviously I could be wrong...  BTW, I'm using Acrobat 9 Pro.  Any ideas?  Thanks,
JG

  • PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader

I consider Preview to be a swiss army knife when it comes to working with PDF and graphic files. Lately (since the last OS update?) PDF files created in Preview won't open in Adobe Reader. Reader either crashes or just becomes unresponsive. I've been able to open the files in older versions of Adobe Professional but Reader 8 or 9 can't open the files. Anyone else experiencing these problems?

Yes. We noticed this problem after upgrading to 10.6.7. When we made a PDF from Word 2011 or even Text Edit through Adobe's "Save as Adobe PDF" it would hang. When we made a PDF using Apple's "Save as PDF" it would lock up Acrobat Pro 9 and also Acrobat Pro X. NOTE that this only happened using Adobe OTF fonts.
I posted this problem on Adobe's forum and received a message from admin there that this was caused by a change in font handling with Apple's 10.6.7 update.
As of yet, no solution has been posted. I also received a message from Adobe's Tech Support that it was forwarded to their engineers.
    Still waiting.

  • Writable PDF created with word 2007

Hello. My company created a PDF file from word 2007 in wich is possible to write. Form my PC (with adobe ten version, but even with the oldest version) is possible to write in, but not with my IOS version. A few month ago I try to use the with my Iphone and it was possible to write in the PDF file. Now I bougth an Ipad mini and it's not possible to write in with it an with Iphone too. Someone know why?!
    Thank you!

    quoque,
Thank you for sharing the PDF form with us.
I took a look at the PDF form in Adobe Reader for iOS and found out that it is protected, as indicated by the lock icon in the bottom bar.
The following is the screenshot of the Document Properties dialog (shown in the desktop version of Acrobat/Reader).
Your company's PDF form contains document restrictions with password security.  (Only those who know the password can change the document restrictions of the PDF form.)
The dialog shows that the PDF form allows "Filling of form fields".  However, if you add any document restrictions to a PDF document, the document will be encrypted for protection.
Unfortunately, Adobe Reader mobile products (for iOS, Android, etc.) do not support any changes to encrypted documents yet.  That is the reason why you cannot fill out the form.  It is a limitation in Reader mobile products.  (There's nothing wrong with the PDF form itself.)
If you would like to make the PDF form "fillable" in Adobe Reader mobile products (as well as desktop products), you could remove the document restrictions and password security or regenerate a new PDF form from MS Word without setting any restrictions.  But I am not sure if it is a feasible solution for your company.
Sorry for the inconvenience.  Please let us know if you have further questions.

    Hi efacg,
Most printing issues are solved by resetting the Printing preferences. When you print from Firefox and you click on the down arrow, do you see Defualt and Firefox? Please make changes to the preferences here and preview the document.

It could be that the PDF file you're converting was created using a third-party application, and it doesn't contain all the information necessary to ensure a clean conversion. Have you had similar troubles converting other PDF files?

  • Acrobat 9 Pro - Will it print to pdf with embedded pdf's from Word 2007?

    Hello All,
We're considering upgrading to Acrobat 9 Pro or Extended.  One of our concerns is whether it will handle the following:
    1. We create very large documents and we like the ability to use OLE of existing PDF documents imbedded into Word 2007 which causes a new PDF window  to open up from the imbedded PDF.  It also displays nicely as an icon or the cover page within Word.
    2. The challenge is when printing (distilling) that master document with any imbedded PDFs, the icon or cover page is displayed, but the OLE feature goes away and does not recognize the imbedded PDF any longer; Acrobat simply treats the imbedded PDF in Word as any other page in the distilling process.
    3. We're not wild about bookmarking or linking to another PDF.
Does Acrobat 9 Pro or Extended resolve this issue?

The options availible for scripted print settings are all shown in the entry for "PrintParams" object in the Acrobat JavaScript Reference.  Have you looked to see if these options fit your needs?  If they do, and if the script can detect which PDF requires which options, then  you're in business.  But if the options you need are not there, then your only option is to set the batch process to display the print dialog for every PDF.

  • Word 2007 won't save files with Acrobat Pro 9.0 Installed

Last night an issue started occurring while trying to save a document in MS Word 2007 (part of an Office Ultimate install).  After about 10 hours of trying several suggestions from a variety of forums and MS suggestions I found that the only time I cannot save a file by traditional means is when Acrobat is installed.  I tried updating Acrobate and had the same thing happen.  MS says all that's left for me to do is get an answer from Adobe (I have to wonder if it's a copout).
    Steps taken so far:
Disabled the PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed PDF add-in - still unable to save Word files
Removed entire CS4 suite - Word was able to properly save files
Installed only the parts of the suite that I use frequently (Photoshop, Soundbooth, Premiere, Acrobat) - unable to save Word files
Removed Acrobat Pro 9.0 - Word saves files properly again
When I say it will not save a file I've tried the keyboard shortcuts for Save/Save As, Choosing the Save/Save As from drop down, and even attempted to save by closing the document.  When prompted with the option to save changes I say yes and nothing will happen, I have to close the document with nothing saved.
I hate the idea of reinstalling Acrobat each time I need to use it to keep Word functional.  I've seen a ton of threads on other forums related to this issue.  Has anybody else seen this or know about a fix/work around?  Any help is appreciated.  Please let me know if additional detail is necessary.
The operating system for the affected computer is Windows 7 32-bit.

I installed each update individually (6 of them) and rebooted after each update.  Opened Word and attempted to save a document (after each update/reboot), the documents still cannot be saved (previously created documents still cannot have new detail saved).
Decided to delete the Office folder in the following path: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 9.0\PDFMaker\Office
Opened up word and Acrobat went through an installation processes, to replace what was removed I assume.  After this was done I attempted to save a document and was still unable to do so.  Went back and deleted that Office folder in the above path again.  When opening Word this time I cancelled the installation process that Adobe was trying to complete.  Preventing the install of the settings and PDF add-in allowed documents to be saved again in word.
I decided to try to remove the innactive add-in from my Word Options and received the following error message:
"The connected state of Office Add-Ins registered in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE cannot be changed"
Due to my deleting that folder?
I suppose I could cancel that installation that initiates each time I open Word (or any other Office program that benefits from Acrobat Add-ins) but that will be a bit of an annoyance.
Anybody have another suggestion, know what may need to be deleted from the registry to prevent the Add-ins installation when opening Word, or know where that setting can be changed?
Hopefully getting close to a resolution

  • Word attachments won't open into Word application

My dad complained that his iMac G5 opens Word attachments automatically into the trial version of MS Office Word.
Eventhough he purchased a copy of Office, Mail continued to open Word attachments to the trial version. Because the trial version of Office is expired, the attachments wouldn't open unless I dragged the docs unto the desktop and changed the Info on the documents to open with the purchased version of Word.
In one attempt to resolve the problem, I trashed the trial version, Mail popped up the dialogue box that asked what application did I want to open the attachment with. I chose the purchased version of Office, but Mail won't do this automatically. It still asked to choose the application to open the document.
I went into his Documents folder and picked one Word doc to change the Info @ "Open With" and chose MS Word app and checked the box "Use this application to open all documents like this." Still didn't work. I then manually changed the Info in all of his Word docs to open into the purchased version of Word. Problem still not resolved.
Found out that his PDF docs won't open into Preview automatically too! I get the dialogue box... "Choose application to open document."
I looked through Preferences and couldn't find a solution.
I'm the family IT, and I need help.
I need Mail to open attachments automatically into their correct applications.

Per this link, you must uninstall the Office 2004 trial or Test Drive version before installing the full purchased version.

Since you have already uninstalled the Test Drive version, I suggest uninstalling the full purchased version and then re-install it.

  • Pdf attachments to windows mail won't open correctly

pdf attachments to emails won't open. I'm using Vista Ultimate 64. The attachments want to open in system 32, and error message says to "set associations." Set asociations is already set to reader 9.1 (which I just updated to 9.2 in an attempt to get it to work). It shouldn't make a difference whether the document was created on a 32 bit or 64 bit computer. I tried saving the attachment but something converted it to a .doc format. When I tried to open it I got pages full of code (in WordPad) not a formatted page.  Current documents saved in pdf open as they should as long as I open them from the document file. I don't know whether it is windows, windows mail or some other program that is responsible for this. Documents downloaded from websites work fine. Has anyone else encountered the same problem? How do you fix it?
