PDF Links from Word

I create a document in Word, add the table of contents and save as a PDF file. When I open the file on the PC and iPad, the links are retained between the Table of Contents and the document content. When I move the file to my Android tablet, the links disappear. Any ideas? Is this a new feature in the Android version of Adobe Reader? Do I need to do something different when I build the table of contents or save as a PDF in Word 2007? Help please!

The current Mobile Reader does not support links (either internal like your TOC, or external). We have heard this request, so please watch for this feature in future versions.

Hyperlinks in PDFs made from Word no longer work

PDFs made from Word documents containing hyperlinks used to be no problem. I can still make PDFs from Word (using the 'Save as PDF' in the print driver), and the links show up as underlined blue text, but they no longer work.
It's been several months since I last made a Word doc with links and successfully converted it to PDF in this manner, but I can't imagine what might have changed.
Any ideas?

Try to redo the default browser (i.e make IE the default and then let Firefox do it again).

Problem importing PDF file from Word to Pages on IPad 2

I am trying to import a PDF file from Word 2007 to Pages on my iPad 2 using the file sharing function in iTunes.
I am able to import it, however when Pages saves it, I get the following message:
"Pages doesn't support some od the original document.
Objects in headers, footers, shapes, text boxes and table cells were removed.
Merged table cells were unmerged.
Objects were removed from table cells."
The document is a PDF form which needs to be filled in. The document was downloaded from a website and saved as a Word document where I have been able to enter in information and print it.
I would like to be able to fill in the form and print it from Pages as there are other documents that accompany this PDF file. (these are plain text Word documents which I have succesfully imported and can edit and print.)
Is there any way for me to achieve this?

I don't think Pages can do this - you'll need a dedicated iPad PDF program that can fill in and edit PDF files. And even then, reports are that different readers work or dont' work with different PDF's... I use Goodreader, which can do some PDF filling in, but you might want to check the app store for others.

I can't create pdf files from word 2003 files in acrobat 9 pro any more

Until recently, i was able to make pdf files from word 2003 documents using the "create pdf from file" in acrobat 9 pro. Combining several word documents into 1 pdf was also a piece of cake.
Now, this doesn't work any longer. If i want to select the files, office 2003 files are no longer listed in the supported file formats.

Try running a Repair Installation on Acrobat (via the Help menu).

Acrobat 9.5, file corruption when combining .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document

In Acrobat 9, when I combine .pdfs created from Word or Excel (from Office 2010) into a larger .pdf document, there is data corruption. Some of the text appears as blank boxes when the pages are inserted into the larger .pdf, the main document. I have so far solved this by "printing" the files to .pdf, and then inserting them into the larger .pdf main document, but this creates a fatter .pdf file that is much larger than would otherwise be the case. Are there any other solutions within Acrobat 9, please? If this bug has been solved in Acrobat X or XI, please advise. Thanks.

As far as the images are concerned, that may be a result of your choice of job settings. You may want to use the Press or Print option if the image quality is important. I assume you are talking about bit images in this case.
As to the hangup, have you checked to see if AcroTray is active on your system? It may not be running as needed. In the meantime, try checking print to file and then opening that file in Distiller to complete the conversion to PDF.
Before you ever try a reinstall, you need to do a repair first to see if that resolves the problem. There are a lot of unknowns about your exact process for the printing and your job settings that may be part of the problem. The rest of your system setup is useful in some cases, but did not help me see your problem.

The numbering in (Contents) format keeps changing when making PDF's from Word 2007 ? Using Acrobat 9 Pro Extended.

The issue is that I have made up a contract in Word.
The second page has a list of all contents of the contract.

bv v vghvjvjnnnnnnnnn....2
When we convert to PDF some of the numbers change. Example 20 becomes 201.

Pdf's from word not working properly

Hi, I'm trying to print to acrobat printer and generate pdf's from word 2010. Unfortunately whenever I do it anything that is in the header or footer and any images on the page are completely missing when the pdf appears. Does anyone know how to stop this happening?!? It's driving me crazy.

Just wanted to correct a possible misconception.
There is no PDFMaker ribbon available for the 64-bit version of Office 2010. However Acrobat is compatible with Office 2010 in that you can still create PDF files using Acrobat X by printing to the Adobe PDF printer.
To the original poster, could you upload a sample Word file?

Can't get pdf links from others to open in Preview

Just got new MBP w/change from Snow Leopard to Lion. When I clicked pdf link from friend, it opened a black page on Safari--the default browser.
This also happened sometimes before in SL, but I learned if I held down Control while clicking the link, it would trigger Preview to open the file. Not now.
Any solutions?

Thanks, Carolyn. I've checked several, and they all already have Preview chosen as the default. (Also evidenced by the 'Change All' button being grayed out & unclickable.)
The friend who sent the link said I should download Adobe PDF Reader since my MAC is brand new....?
In the past (pre-Lion on Snow Leopard), MOST pdf's would open In Preview without this problem.
I *really* need this to open: It's the manual for my new Sony RX100!

Transfer links from Word to PDF

I want to create a PDF file from a Word document. I click "Adobe PDF" on the word toolbar and the PDF file is created, but the hyperlinks that I had in the Word document don't transfer over to the PDF. I am using Word 2003, Acrobat X Standard and Windows 7 Home Premium. How can I get the links to carry over?

I suspect your version of Office is no longer supported.

Can you link from Word to a specific page in PDF without a webserver?

I am trying to add a link within Word that opens a specific PDF file and goes to a particular page within the PDF. Is there a way to do this without a webserver?

I have a similar problem I would like to solve. I am also running Word 2003, Windows XP and Acrobat Professional 7.0.
I can create a hyperlink in a word document to open a separate PDF file.
I can then use PDF Maker to convert the word document to PDF.
No problem.
When I click on the new link in the PDF document it opens the separate file in the same window and the original PDF file is closed.
I do not want the original file to close.
When I set up a new link from within Acrobat then I get the option to "Open in new window". This link works the way that I want.
As there are multiple hyperlinks in the word document, I will need to recreate new links everytime I modify the Word document. This is very time consuming
Question - how do I get the automatically created link to open in a new window?

Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 crashes when displaying pdf made from Word doc containing url text

Hello,
I and a few others in my workplace have a similar issue.
Acrobat crashes when they scroll through and view a pdf file that was created from Word. The Word document contains url text in its header to the effect of "visit us at www.blah.com ." They're running Acrobat Pro 8.1.2 and Office 2K Pro SR-1 on XP Pro SP2.
Even though the link is not an active link, (i.e. clicking on it does not open the web page), if I convert a document containing this header to PDF, Acrobat will not allow me to manipulate the file and will crash. When I take the same document and remove the web address, then convert from Word to PDF, I experience no problems with Acrobat (note that this is the identical file, but with the web address removed).This does not explain why Acrobat will work for awhile even with the web address in the header, then stop working. But it does appear to fix my problem with creating a PDF from Word, then manipulating it further.
Does anyone know how to allow for this text to exist in the header and still have a stable pdf file/acrobat behavior?

To sum up, I've found that if a url beginning with www is in the Word document and then created to pdf Adobe will crash when viewing that pdf. If it is deleted from the Word document before creating the pdf, Acrobat will not crash when viewing that pdf.

Can I create pdfs from Word with active hyperlinks in standard Acrobat?

PDFMaker is a Windows-only feature and unfortunately, there is no Acrobat Standard for Mac, only Acrobat Professional.
However, the attached document was authored in Word 2011 for Mac. I converted it to PDF via File > Print > PDF > Save as Adobe PDF (steps outlined here.). The full URL was recognized by Acrobat after the conversion and is live. The second line was a hyperlink setup in Word, but unfortunately was not recognized since that data was not included in the PDF conversion nor is it an obvious link. That said, you could use the 'Link' tool in Acrobat after the conversion to re-create that hyperlink.

Acrobat 9 loses my links from word

Hey, I hope someone here can hlp me with this.
I'm using Word 03 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
When I convert a word document from a .doc to a pdf using the Adobe PDF > Convert to PDF option from within Word most of my hyperlinks stop working. They even stop being selectable text, so the person viewing the PDF can't even copy and paste the URL out.
The same thing happens when I try to create a PDF from the word document from within acrobat.
Is there a soultion for this? I have a lot of links that I need to have working!

Thanks for the suggestion! I use Word 2007 with acrobat 8 at my company and I'm experiencing a similar problem. The link remains but while word can hide a link with all of it's parameters it can show some other more easily understood text. So when I say 'click here' and 'here' is actually a link to a really long url - it just makes the document more readable. Acrobat ignores the link information hidden behind the text.
Acrobat 8 complains when I try to use Word 2007 files and saving as an earlier version of Word seems to have some problems, too. I also couldn't find an Options button on the save as window. Are you referring to the save as window in Acrobat?

Problem converting links from Word 02 to Acrobat 7

I have this problem that is driving me nuts. I am working with Word 2002 and Acrobat 7 Pro.
When I create internal links within the word document (terms linked to the glossary) and PDF using the PDF toolbar (change settings to include bookmarks and links, no security). The PDF only converts some of the links, and it is never consistent. My co-worker has the same problem, but her links that don't come in vary from mine (word 2003 acrobat 7).
This doesn't happen to all documents with links, the website links work perfectly.
Any ideas?

I created the links in word, pressed the PDF Maker ("Adobe PDF" Button on toolbar), changed conversion settings: Standard, (all check but "Attach source file to PDF"), Security None, Word Tab (all checked but "Convert displayed comments to notes in the PDF"), Bookmarks were selected, clicked OK, clicked "Convert to PDF."
If you look at my original post, I attached screenshots of the PDF Maker dialog box.

Cannot print to Adobe PDF printer from Word after upgrading to Win 7 64bit

Hi. After upgrading my operating system from Windows XP to Windows 7 64 bit, I can no longer print to the Adobe PDF printer (e.g. from Word). It just sits in the Adobe PDF printer queue saying "Error" without bringing up the "Save As" dialog box, and nothing happens. I am running Adobe Acrobat 8.0.0 (I've checked for updates but it says none are available). I have tried doing a repair installation following the instructions on this website (http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/error-file-adobepdf-dll-needed.html) but to no avail.

I think it's time to upgrade. 64-bit systems weren't much in use at the time of Acrobat 8.0.
