Performance Measuring of Weblogic Server

I do performance testing for our own software applications. So far our web
servers have been WIN NT running IIS 4. Now, our development group have
started to work with WebLogic.
I have never worked with Weblogic and I feel a little in the dark. Where
could I find information on how to do Performance monitoring for a WebLogic
Server?
Any information would be appreciated.
Francisco

I suggest contacting their technical support.
Thanks,

First, I suggest looking at the information located in the WebLogicconsole.
Second, as of version 5.1.0, we have a clean integration with a very

  • Performance Tunning in weblogic

    Hi All,
Can you please tell me about performance tunning in weblogic server in simple way to understand. I have gone through Pdf's but some what difficult to understand .
    Thanks
    Balaji kumar

the only serious approach to performance tuning is:
    - write scripts who geneerate load on your system
    - profile your system under load using a profiler such as yourkit or jrockit mission control
    - monitor your application (ejb pools, datasources, jvm, threads9 under load to detect any bottleneck
    - analyze logs under load to determine any saturation in resource usage
most default parameters of weblogic are already optimized for general purpose usage.
but every application if different from the other, so you must do your own homework

  • Monitoring weblogic server 6.1

I am trying to monitor the performance of my weblogic server by using the runtime Mbean management commands, but I cannot find the mbean that allow me to get information on performance : memory usage, queue length, throughput, idle threads etc. I want to be able to log this information over a period of time and for certain interval of times. Thanks.

You can look at all of them all to see which ones you need -
deploy these 2 JSPs and point your browser to listMBeans.jsp
    http://dima.dhs.org/misc/listMBeans.jsp
    http://dima.dhs.org/misc/showMBean.jsp

    Shannon,
The OHS + Weblogic installation, just means you will have an admin server, with Enterprise Manager that can manage your OHS instances. That being said:
1 - You don't have to extend any domain, since the only thing OHS will need is an Admin Server with Enterprise Manager.
2 - I (myself, I don't speak for Oracle here) have a personal preference of having stand alone OHS. If you don't know how to work with httpd.conf and mod_wl.conf, I would suggest installing a separate domain only for it, that way you can keep the weblogic turned off, and turn it on only when you need to edit any configuration.
    Thanks

  • [BEA WEBLOGIC SERVER 5.1 sp8] performance pack load problem ....

    Hi,
I am trying to use the weblogic server performance pack on BEA WEBLOGIC SERVER 5.1
    sp8.
As explained in the following doc : http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/admindocs/tuning.html#performance%20packs
I use the following configuration :
    weblogic.properties : weblogic.system.nativeIO.enable=true
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH is set to "/bea/weblogic/wls510_sp8/lib/solaris"
    Technical environement : SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-06
But when I restart the server I have the following message :
"Mo Jun 03 18:19:06 CEST 2002:<A> <Posix Performance Pack> Could not initialize POSIX
    Performance Pack.
Mo Jun 03 18:19:06 CEST 2002:<E> <Performance Pack> Unable to load performance pack,
    using Java I/O."
Could you help me on this point, please ?

I think my Q is not clear. I shall explain how the application works. I am having application based on Swings and that is a website building program. User has options like ading an image into their site with an element called 'Image' available as part of the system. Then user can either select an image from the picture gallery provided or can upload his own image.
Now, if the user is uploading a picture that has space in name ( we use a servlet program to upload the image into user directory), it will get uploaded. But when the swing program tries to paint the image in the Image element ( It is essentially a JLabel ), the program is sending a request to the WL server. Since the URL contains space in name, server returns error. Even if do URL Encoding, it will add %20 in the URL and still WL will report error saying that file not found. It seems that WL is unable to process requests that has space in the URL.
If any one has any solution to this, please help..

  • Bea Weblogic Server performance question.

    Hello,
Im wondering if there are big performance difference between Bea Weblogic Server
    versions.
I run BWS 5.1 and find it great, I ve tested the application on 6.0 and it seems
to run as good as 5.1, I ve tested with 6.1 and it works fine too.
And now is my question... is it big difference between WLS from 5.1, 6.0, 6.1,
    7.0, 8.0, 8.1 ???
I dont need any "super-hyper" features just run a simple EJB (30-40 EJBs) application.
If there are big performance difference then there is a good reason to update
to the latest WLS. (Do you have any benchmark urls for this issue?)
Do I need to modify the EJBs if I want to upgrade from 5.1 to 8.1 ??
When I upgraded from 5.1 to 6.1 there was a little changes I ve to make in the
    xml files.
    Thanks for all your help!

As new versions release, there is differences in performance. One
significant point to note is the JVM versions that are supported which
significantly impact the application server performance. The new WLS 8.1 on
the newest released 1.4.2 JVM is damn good. The 1.4.1_0x JVMs have been
dramatically slower in tests that I've done. So even incremental releases
    will make an impact.
In newer releases, code matures also. I also believe in 7.x they gave the
capability of clustering JVM more effectively.
    anyway... good luck.

  • WebLogic Server Tuning and Performance

We are having a very strange problem. We have a domain called "ABC". Under that domain, we have three sites (applications) "x", "y" and "z".
"x" take about 80-85% of load while other two shares remaining 15% of the load.
When we have high traffic, "x" stops responding with thread stuck error and other two sites are still functional.

  • Speed of weblogic serving static pages

Has anyone seen fairly slow page serving (measured from the end-user's
point of view) for weblogic 4.5? Even when the system isn't hardly
loaded at all, we have users complain about slow response times. The
consensus is the stuff running on WebLogic is slower to appear than the
rest of the web. We're using servlets, and jsp's. Of course this is
hard to quantify and isolate, but we'd like to hear if others have moved
to something like Netscape on the front end because it serves images
    faster?

We had similar problems when running ejbs and jsps from the same weblogic
server. Images load very slow. I recommend seperating your jsp server from
your ejb server. Run two instances of weblogic, one for jsps and one for
ejbs. In addition, you can use hardware routers that can filter by requests
such as an alteon or f5 to route requests for images to an image server
(apache), and all jsp requests to weblogic. We use this configuration and
    have great load times.

    David,
We have found the performance to be better when you serve static pages and
images from another webserver (Netscape iPlanet). The weblogic webserver
appears to have a diffucult time delivering images in a timely fashion. It
also takes away from Weblogic responding to EJB requests.

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    Hi,
    Few comments here...
    1) Seems your environment is not setup correctly but that is not the big cause here.....
    2) This one is important, it seems that you installed weblogic using a different account and are trying to run it from a different account.
So the account with which you are trying to run weblogic does not have proper permission on
    MW_HOME\user_projects\domains\bifoundation_domain\config\fmwconfig\bootstrap\cwallet.sso
Right click on the file and go in properties ..
Enable full control, modify,Read and execute, read and write permissions for the user you are trying to start weblogic and apply it.
if this simple steps doesnt work, please enable more logging by adding "-Djava.security.debug=jpspolicy" to startup option and grab more details.
Good Luck let me know if this works.

  • SP2 Installation Problem on Weblogic Server 6.1SP1

    hi,
i encountered a problem installing sp2 to my second server.
(Windows 2000 Advance Server with SP2, dual Xeon CPU, 3GB, 200GB.
    Weblogic Server 6.1 with SP1 installed at d:\bea) x 2
installation file itself is valid. as installation at server 1 was successful. however,
    when installing at server 2:
    1) by double clicking on the exe - blank GUI popup appeared on screen without any
usual text (first screen that reads: welcome - the installer will guide you....).
all three buttons were there. click on the next buttons all the way would give a
title 'installation complete' without any delay. sp2 was not installed.
    2) by running exe from console - GUI popup appeared normally. however, when prompted
to select bea home, selecting the default folder at d:\bea and when clicking on next
button, a popup would appear claiming that weblogic server home is not found at d:\bea.
    and process discontinued.
    the beahomelist is found at c:\bea, with content reading correctly as d:\bea;c:\bea;
Previous SP1 installation on server 2 about 2 months back was successful.
would appreciate for ur input. thanks a lot in advance.

I've exactly the same problem and will attempt to reinstall WebLogic 6.1
    with SP3 built-in ...

update on the progress, spoke to a BEA staff from regional office and I aminformed
that this problem was never encountered and am advised to perform freshre-installation
with wlserver6.1 with sp2 built in.

    Hi Laurent,
Thank you very much for ur reply.
My Weblogic Server is installed in D:\bea. Just like the Server 1
    configuration.
And I m choosing to install SP2 into this existing home.
I am kind of worried by this as it is nearing production and I am running
    into this
    weird problem here.
    Thanks again.

    Hello Keigo,
It seems that the problem comes when your server is installed in the
directory where the beahomelist file is located. Am I correct when I
assume that the installation fails when you install the service pack 2
over the server installed in c:\bea?
