Performance tips when writing reports

Hello all,Is there a certain way to order members (dense, sparse etc) in report layout commands like <Page, <Row to improve performance, I noticed some improvement by randomly re-ordering. Is there a good thumb rule to follow , pls adviseThanks,raju

This is what I got from Hyperion Support:Reports will have the correct numbers when generated after a calculation. Since dynamic calcs are not processed when performing a calculation, it is not calculated until you perform a spreadsheet retrieval or when you perform a report. If you have an outline with a lot of dynamic calcs, this will affect report writer performance time greatly. To optimize your Report follow the suggestions below: 1. Decrease the amount of Dynamic Calcs in your outline. If you have to, make it dynamic calc and store. 2. Use the Sparse command at the beginning of the report script. 3. Use the Column command for the dense dimensions instead of using the Page command. The order of the dense dimensions in the Column command should be the same as the order of the dense dimension in the outline. (Ex. Column (D1, D2)). 4. Use the Row command for the sparse dimensions. The order of the sparse dimensions in the Row command should be in the opposite order of the sparse dimension in the outline. (Ex. Row (S3, S2, S1)). This is commonly called sparse bottom up method. 5. If the user does not want to use the Column command for the dense dimensions, then the dense dimensions should be placed at the end of the Row command. (Ex. Row (S3, S2, S1, D1, D2)). 6. Do not use the Page command, use the Column command instead.

  • Error -2147417851 when writing report to Excel

    I have taken the Active-X example code where a table is written to Excel and a macro is run and adjusted it to fit my purposes. In my case, an array is written to an Excel file and thereafter a macro is run which creates some graphs and a report. This works fine on my computer with Windows 95. But, when running it on the computer it is supposed to be used on, Excel gives an access error 0xc0000005 just before a copy operation resulting in the "error -2147417851 ocurred at the server through an exception at my.vi". I am using LabVIEW full development 6.1, Windows NT 4 with the latest SP and Office 97 SP2 both wit and without all upgrades. However, if I change my macro so that it doesn't do the copy operation, it works just fi
    ne, and the error is delayed until I close the document. Since my LabVIEW vi ends when the macro is completed, I don't get any error in LabVIEW.
    I have searched Microsoft technet and tried the suggestions I found there, read all similar problems I could find here (I found four) but nothing seems to help. I have also tried it on a machine with XP and Office 97 SP2. The macro works fine there without modification and LabVIEW ends without error and I can even close my Excel document without errors, but when I try to quit Excel I get the same error message as always, only a different address.
    I have tried to terminate the refnums in different order, inserted a delay and so on, but nothing seems to help. I still believe the error is related to LabVIEW, since my macro runs without error when launched from Excel, but I encounter the same error if the macro is launched from Excel with LabVIEW open in the background, even without open vi:s.
    I have run out of ideas, and even if I am abl
    e to create the reports, it doesn't feel good when Excel crashes every time. Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Paol,
    Try looking at this answer posted a while ago it may help.

  • Performance issues when creating a Report / Query in Discoverer

    Hi forum,
    Hope you are can help, it involves a performance issues when creating a Report / Query.
    I have a Discoverer Report that currently takes less than 5 seconds to run. After I add a condition to bring back Batch Status that = ‘Posted’ we cancelled the query after reaching 20 minutes as this is way too long. If I remove the condition the query time goes back to less than 5 seconds.

    Is there anything i can do in Discoverer Desktop / Administration to avoid this problem.
    Many thanks,
    Lance

    Hi Rod,
    I've tried the condition (Batch Status||'' = 'Posted') as you suggested, but the qeury time is still over 20 mins. To test i changed it to (Batch Status||'' = 'Unposted') and the query was returned within seconds again.
    I’ve been doing some more digging and have found the database view that is linked to the Journal Batches folder. See below.
    I think the problem is with the column using DECODE. When querying the column in TOAD the value of ‘P’ is returned. But in discoverer the condition is done on the value ‘Posted’. I’m not too sure how DECODE works, but think this could be the causing some sort of issue with Full Table Scans. How do we get around this?

  • OBIEE report performance issue when initialized

    Hi, All:
    Thanks for reading this First, please forgive some appropriate words, I am not good at English...
    I met a problem on production, when the report is selected, It shows up very slow even I did some performance tuning on this report. And after I checked the session, when the report is selected, it still runs with some SQL with every prompt has value even It shows no result in this report.
    So, my question is, Is it possible not to run this SQL or is there any other way to get better performance on this report?
    Thanks for answering that.

    I've definitely got plenty of suggestions. But to really help you, I need a few more details.
    How many different measures do you have in the pivot table? Do you have any Time Series Analytics in there (like Ago or ToDate)? Approximately how many records are being displayed in the pivot table (100, 1,000,100,000)?
    Most importantly, do you have usage tracking enabled? If not, please turn it on. John Minkjan's blog here can help you enable this. [http://obiee101.blogspot.com/2008/08/obiee-setting-up-usage-tracking.html]
    If you manage to turn on usage tracking, we should be able see how much time is spent on the database versus OBIEE. If it turns out the bottleneck is the database, then you'll need to work with your DBA to tune the database.

  • Bad performance when deleting report column in webi(with "Design – Structure only")

    Hi all,
    One of our customer has recently upgraded from BO XI to BO4.1. In the new BO 4.1, they encountered a bad performance issue when they were deleting a column in Webi(using "Design – Structure only" mode).
    With “Design – Structure only" mode,  it took webi about 10 seconds to complete after the customer right-clicked a report column and clicked the "delete".  The customer said that they only need to wait for less than 1 second when they did the same in BO XI old version.
    The new BO version used is 4.1SP02, installed in Windows Server 2008 R2. (Server with 32 core CPU, 32G memory)
    This bad performance happened in both Webi web and Rich Client. (in Webi Rich Client, the performance is a little bit better. The 'delete column' action takes about 8 seconds to complete).
    Do anyone know how to tune this performance in webi?  Thank you.
    Besides, it seems that each time we are making change in the webi report structure in IE or Rich Client, webi need to interact with Server site to upload the changes. Is there any option to change this behavior?  Say, do not upload change to Server for when 'deleting report column', only trigger the upload after a set of actions(e.g. trigger when click the "Save" button).
    Thank you.
    Regards,
    Eton.

    Hi all,
    Could anyone help me on this?  Thanks!
    What customer concerns now is that when they did the same 'column editing' action in BO XI R2 for the same report, they did not need to wait.  And they need to wait for at least 7-8 second in the BO 4.1SP02 environment for this action to complete.(data already purged, in structure-only mode)
    One more information about the webi report being editing is: there are many sheets in the report(about 6~10 sheets in one report). Customer don't want to separate these sheet into different reports  as it will increase the effort of their end users to locate similar report sheets.
    Regards,
    Eton.

    That error can happen for many reasons...one of the reasons that I occassionaly get it is because I try exporting a movie to an external drive that has been formated in the old FAT32 instead of the NTSF standard.  FAT32 only allows for file sizes up to 2 gigs.  And as soon as it reaches that...I would get that error.  I don't know if that is why you are getting that error...but it would be easy to check.  1) are you generating a file that is over 2 gigs?  2) is your drive that you are exporting to FAT 32 (just right click the drive in My Computer and select "properties" then just look for what it says next to "file system".

  • Performance issue in PS report

    Experts!!
    I've prepared a PS report that gives the cost status of an asset(under construction). It is a WBS element.
    For this, I'm selecting all the projects(PROJ) as in selection criteria.
    For each project, the hierarchy(all WBS elements of the project) with an FM.
    With that, PRPS -> for WBS element details.
    For some WBS elements, there could be asset numbers...means the asset is the WBS element
    and the asset is under construction/ activity.
    For those assets, I want to find the accounts data from BSEG(or some table).
    Now this works fine output-wise.
    But the problem is the poor performance.
    When BSEG is accessed, I only have the asset number ANLN1(apart from bukrs/gjahr, which is of no great help).
    I could not find an alternate table or a table where I can find the key(using the asset number) for BSEG.
    Could someone help, please?
    Thank you,
    Santhosh.

    Try this:
    Go to FB03 and display one of the documents you are interested in.
    Open another sessions and turn on the performance trace (ST05).
    Go back to the document display and go:
    Environment -> Document Environment -> Accounting documents.
    Select the asset document.
    Go back to ST05 and turn off the trace and display it.
    That should show you how SAP does it. (My bet is that it is pretty close to what Eric has been saying.)

  • Performance Issue with VL06O report

    Hi,
    We are having performance issue with VL06O report, when run with forwarding agent. It is taking about an hour with forwarding agent. The issue is with VBPA table and we found one OSS note, but it is for old versions. ours is ECC 5.0. Can anybody know the solution? If you guys need more information, please ask me.
    Thanks,
    Surya

    Sreedhar,
    Thanks for you quick response. Indexes were not created for VBPA table. basis people tested by creating indexes and gave a report that it is taking more time with indexes than regular query optimizer. this is happening in the funtion forward_ag_selection.
    select vbeln lifnr from vbpa
         appending corresponding fields of table lt_select
         where     vbeln in ct_vbeln
         and     posnr eq posnr_initial
         and     parvw eq 'SP'
         and     lifnr in it_spdnr.
    I don't see any issue with this query. I give more info later

  • Performance problem when running a personalization rule

    We have a serious performance problem when running a personalization rule.
    The rule is defined like this:
    Definition
    Rule Type: Content
    Content Type: LoadedData
    Name: allAnnouncements
    Description: all announcements of types: announcement, deal, new release,
    tip of the day
    If the user has the following characteristics:
    And when:
    Then display content based on:
    (CONTENT.RessourceType == announcement) or (CONTENT.RessourceType == deal)
    or (CONTENT.RessourceType == new release) or (CONTENT.RessourceType == tip
    of the week)
    and CONTENT.endDate > now
    and CONTENT.startDate <= now
    END---------------------------------
    and is invoked in a JSP page like this:
    <%String customQuery = "(CONTENT.language='en') && (CONTENT.Country='nl'
    || CONTENT.Country='*' ) && (!(CONTENT.excludeIds like '*#7#*')) &&
    (CONTENT.userType ='retailer')"%>

    rule="allAnnouncements"
    sortBy="startDate DESC"
    query="<%=customQuery%>"
    contentHome="<%=ContentHelper.DEF_DOCUMENT_MANAGER_HOME%>" />
    The customQuery is constructed at runtime from user information, and cannot
    be constructed with rules

    When I turn on debugging mode, I can see that the rule is parsed and a SQL
    query is generated, with the correct parameters.
    This is the generated query (with the substitutions):

    At this moment, the server makes the user wait more than 10 min for the
    query to execute.
    This is what I found out about the problem:
    1)When I run the query on an Oracle SQL client (We are using Oracle 8.1.7.0)
    , it takes 5-10 seconds.
    2)If I remove the second term of (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
    CONTENT.Country='*' ) in the custom query,
    thus retricting to CONTENT.Country='nl', the performance is OK.
    3)There are currently more or less 130 records in the DB that have
    Country='*'
    4)When I run the page on our QA server (solaris), which is at the same time
    our Oracle server,
    the response time is OK, but if I run it on our development server (W2K),
    response time is ridiculously long.
    5)The problem happens also if I add the term (CONTENT.Country='nl' ||
    CONTENT.Country='*' )
    to the rule definition, and I remove this part from the custom query.
    Am I missing something? Am I using the personalization server correctly?
    Is this performance difference between QA and DEV due to differences in the
    OS?
    Thank you,
    Luis Muñiz

    Luis,
    I think you are working through Support on this one, so hopefully you are in good
    shape.
    For others who are seeing this same performance issue with the reference CM implementation,
    there is a patch available via Support for the 3.2 and 3.5 releases that solves
    this problem.
    This issue is being tracked internally as CR060645 for WLPS 3.2 and CR055594 for
    WLPS 3.5.

  • REP-0081 error when emailing report output

    I am using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT to execute a report from a form. I have the report set up as a Report object in the form. The report runs fine to screen or to file, but I am getting an error when attempting to email report in batch mode:
    REP-0081: Error during file I/O operation.
    REP-0110: Unable to open file 'mpa02448.pdf'.
    scaba 14
    Execution Mode = Batch
    Report Destination = Mail
    Report Destination Name = [email protected]
    Report Destination Format = PDF
    I am able to send email to the same address via UTL_SMTP directly from the form, so it is not an email handler problem.
    Any ideas?

    I have verified the latest patches.
    Addresses are indeed in Windows address book.
    As far as verifying permissions on the file, the file does not exist. It would appear that the error is generated when creating the PDF file, before emailing occurs. Again, however, I do not have problems writing to file directly.
    Is there a default directory used when emailing report for file creation? Perhaps the permissions on that directory need to be changed. Please advise.

  • Performance problem when printing - table TSPEVJOB big size

    Hi,
    in a SAP ERP system there is performance problem when printing because table TSPEVJOB has many millions of entries.
    This table has reached a considerable size (about 90 Gb); db size is 200 Gb.
    Standard reports have been scheduled correctly and kernel of SAP ERP system is updated.
    I've tried to scheduled report RSPO1041 (instead of RSPO0041) to reduce entries but it is not possible run it during normal operations because it locks the printing system.
    Do you know why this table has increased ?
    Are there any reports to clean this table or other methods ?
    Thanks.

  • Error when linking report to stored procedure defined with one input parm

    Error when linking report to stored procedure defined with one input parameter
    The report will work ok, when the parameter is removed from the stpred procedure

    Stored Proc (sql server 2005)

    End;

    This is an example of a stored procedure that is trying to be linked to a new report as the only datasource.
    If I remove the parameter I can create a report, however this will return all of the results of thw query to the report, rather than the desired results. If I add the parameter on the Crystal Report, the stored procedure then has to return all of the results to Crystal and then perform the filtering of records. By using a parameter in the stored procedure, you should be able to do all of the filtering as part of the query on the databse server, making this more efficient.

    Hi,
    please apply the note 1614788. After note implementation, you need to set parameter RSR_HIER_THRESHOLD_EXPORTDB in table RSADMIN via report SAP_RSADMIN_MAINTAIN in transaction SE38.
    If you set this parameter to value 50.000 for example, all hierarchies with more than 50.000 nodes will be buffered in the database instead of using the export/import buffer.
    To find out the current size of a hierarchy, goto the hierarchy maintenance in transaction RSH1 and copy the hierarchie ID from the header data. With this key you can goto transaction SE16 and select table RSRHIEDIR_OLAP (Field HIEID is the hierarchy ID).
    It should resolved your issue.
    Thanks,
    Venkat
