Performanse Issue - can I get queries generated by JDO compiled?

Hi,
I have noticed that there is a huge improvemnt in performance when using
compiled queries. However, when I navigate relationships, JDO generates
the query internally and I would like to instruct JDO to compile these
queries as well.
If I replace the relationship type with a long to obtain a key from the
database and then read the related record in a compiled query using this
key, I have seen performance increase 10 times in batch runs.
I would appreciate your advise on this as the current performance we
have achieved with Kodo JDO is not acceptable for our application, but I
believe it would be if these queries were issued with PreparedStatements
as well.
Lars

Lars --
Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to control this behavior right now. However, we're working on a system in which we use a transparent PreparedStatement cache for all our database interactions. It should be ready in a few weeks. We hope you can wait that long, because we have some great things in store for Kodo users.

  • Power Management Issue - Can't get my iMac to stay off!

    I've recently been having issues with my screensaver freezing, or it doesn't come on when it should, or it comes on and then turns off (back to the desktop), and/or my display sleep never kicks in or stays kicked in. The other night, I couldn't get the stupid screensaver to engage when moving the mouse pointer to the hotcorner. So, I ended up shutting down the iMac.
    Well, I crawl back in bed and about 2min later the iMac is powering back on! I shut it down again, and once more in a few minutes it's powering back on. This has happened before a few times. The only way to keep it off is to pull the plug.
    Am I missing a setting? Is there some plist, in addition to the screensaver plist, that needs to be tossed in the trash??
    Thanks

    Unplug them and see if it helps. If it doesn't you can always plug them back in. If it does help then try them one by one until you find the problem.
    I'd also post this question in the iMac hardware forum. There's various basic hardware features you can reset at bootup time. On old Macs like mine it is the PRAM but the name and features have changed with time. It may be something like that on your computer since I know on some models this also controls sleep functions. I'm sure somebody on the iMac hardware forum could tell you very quickly what it is on your computer.

  • Server 2012 Dual Monitor Issue - Can't Get it to work properly.

    I have a HP Proliant ML310e that runs Server 2012 R2. It came with an on-board VGA graphics adapter, that was using a Microsoft Basic Display Adapter driver and working fine.
    Needing to run dual monitors, I contacted HP and purchased a Nvida K2000 PCIE graphics card. I installed it using their latest drivers and rebooted, making sure that the new PCIE card was enabled in the BIOS.
    While booting, the server actually now displayed on the new 'second' monitor connected to the newly installed Nvida card. When I actually logged in and went into the display properties, it was only detecting the new display - I couldn't even force detect
    the original display.
    Also, when I go into device Manger, it now only shows the Nvidia graphics adapter - no longer shows that the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter is present.
    Any advice on how to get dual monitors to work on Server 2012. I did try the Windows/P Projector display, but that did nothing.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    You should check your BIOS settings - some motherboard will disable onboard display card once a PCI(E) card is plugged in. This is a hardware settings issue. If  HP support is available, ask them for detailed configuration steps.

  • ITunes Media And Removable Storage Issue - Can't Get iTunes to recognize the new location.  Any tips?

    I've had my iTunes media on an external HDD for years.  Let's call this drive B.
    My iTunes library and xml file reside on my Mac HDD.
    I decided that I wanted to buy a bigger HDD and move all of the media to it.  Last night I copied all of the media files to the new HDD (let's call it P) from B.  I also copied the iTunes folder from my Mac HDD to P and directed iTunes to look for the media in the Advanced settings.
    Of course when I launched iTunes after all the hours it took to do all of this copying, it could not find any of the media on P without asking whether I wanted to locate it - and the library was full of explanation points.  When I examined the info on a few songs, it was showing that all of the media was still pointing to B as the location with the complete directory structure pointing to that old location - and not to the new drive.
    I tried creating a new library and still could not get the library to recognize that all of the media was now on P instead of B.
    I remember when I did something similar years ago, I just changed the location in iTunes in the Advanced settings and iTunes realized that all of the music was on B instead of its prior location.
    I finally gave up and restored things back to the original settings with all the media on B.
    I did a lot of searches and followed everything explicitly -- which basically meant copying the iTunes folder (with the library and xml files within it), and the media to the new drive and then telling iTunes where the new location was.  To me it shouldn't be any simpler than that to get iTunes to recognize a new location for all the music.
    Can anyone offer a more rudimentary breakdown of things for me to try so that I can get iTunes to acknowledge that all the media is on P and not B?
    P is larger than B  for those of you who are wondering why I'm trying to get this to work. And P also will be a drive that dedicated to iTunes and media and nothing else.  Unlike B, which has all kinds of assorted files on it along with my music, etc.
    And yes, each time I made changes  - I restarted iTunes

    Thank you both for the information.
    It sounds like I did something out of sequence based upon reading the split library information, thinking I was doing the right thing.
    This is exactly what I did
    I copied the folder with all the media from B to P
    I copied the entire iTunes folder from the Mac HDD to P
    I option click started iTunes and connected to the library file and when iTunes opened it was OK - and looked like it normally does when I was still using B as the storage
    I connected to P
    When it didn't work, I tried to create a new library and did the same exact things.
    So let me ask this:
    Should I hook up P again and delete everything off of it except for the folders that have the media in them and then copy the current iTunes folder over onto P again - and then copy all of the media from it's current location into the iTunes Media folder inside of the iTunes folder I copy over from the Mac and then try to connect and consolidate everything?
    I assume that if I move everything from the current media folder into the iTunes/iTunes Media/ that I copy over everything will be under the iTunes umbrella as if things were never split?
    I don't seem to recall it being this difficult when I originally set up things on B, as it was a split situation then too, if I'm not mistaken.
    I really appreciate the instruction.  And honestly it does make sense to have everything in one location to prevent problems like this from happening  - it would just be great if iTunes had a feature that moved and/or copied the necessary files to the new location to prevent splitting links

    Hi ronlin,
    I see by your post, that you want to know if you should have the options for PDF settings. I can help you.
    I have provided a document with all the scanning settings available.
    Scan. Just select your operating system if you are scanning from the software or select the control panel document if you are scanning from the printer.
    If you are doing the scanning from the computer software and the option is missing, then do the following:
    Open the HP Solution Centers Software, click on Change Settings, select all the settings, including the PDF and then click on Save Shortcuts. This will create a new shortcut for the PDF in the list.
    What operating system are you using? How to Find the Windows Edition and Version on Your Computer.
    If you need further assistance, just let me know.

  • My White Samsung Fascinate has issues, can I get it replaced for a different phone?

    Okay, I have the White Samsung Fascinate. I bought it from Best Buy back in April, and since then i've had nothing but random problems with it. I've never tried getting it replaced before, but recently it has stopped vibrating altogether, even when in vibrate mode. I factory reset the phone and everything and it still will not work. If I take it to the Verizon Store and they cannot fix the problem can they give me a different phone? I really do not want another Fascinate that will just probably end up giving me more problems in a few months. I also heard that Verizon does not offer replacements for the White Samsung Fascinate, since it was a Best Buy exclusive, and that they will offer you something else. Is that true?

    Since you did not by the device from a Retail Verizon Store and has had it over 14 Days the answer would most likely be a no, they will replace it with a referbished Fascinate if you got the insurance plan, other than that it would depend on the rep and manager to do something diffrent but I would not expect a diffrent phone...
    Also you may qualify for the early upgrade but this will still mean you have to buy the devicce at contract price and renew contract, but this is only if you qualify and they do not have to offer this as a solution..
    Good Luck..

  • Tracking issue - can I get records from apple

    My partner and I have recently split and I believe she has been tracking me, our iphones were paired to each other and her ipad and I would like to know if I can request the records from Apple even though the account is in her name?

    No.
    She would be tracking your iPhone how?
    If with Apple's Find Friends app, you control that on your iPhone.
    If your iPhone is hacked with the cutsie term for that "jailbreak", restore your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from the backup.

  • Video issue: Can't get controls to false or sound to mute

    I doing an HTML5 video embed from a streaming video hosting service that I've done a number of times. In this case, it's going to be background video inside of a div called vidCon. I want it when the video plays for both the controls not to appear nor any sound playing. I used the following code on the timeline to fire the video, but the audio does play and the controls do appear. Why is that?
    sym.$("vidCon").empty();
    var vid = $("<video width='1280' height=720' controls='false'>" +
       "<source src='https://yoursite.com/video.mp4' />" +
       "<source src='https://yoursite.com/video.webm' />" +
       "This browser is not compatible with HTML 5" +
    "</video>");
    // stage symbol lookup, and append the above vid object to it;
    // in other words, get the div called 'vcontainer' and attach the video control to it;
    sym.$("vidCon").append(vid);
    // additional options for the video object
    vid.attr('autoplay','autoplay');
    vid.attr('preload','auto');
    vid.attr('muted','true');

    Well, that surprises me.
    Okay...so since the controls are gone and you've handled autoplay, here's what I'd try next (btw, like the above, I didn't test it, but I think this will work):
    vid.attr('defaultMuted','true');
    Let me know whether it does or not.
    btw, without controls, you'll probably want to provide an alternate way for the user to hear the audio (unless you never want them to hear it).

  • Can't get Eclipse 3.3 to compile servlets

    Hi,
    This is my first time tyring to compile a servlet in Eclipse 3.3. I have serveral errors like "Can not resolve import javax.servlet..." I did include the location of the servlet-api.jar file in my classpath. And not just classpath but I included the location to variables PATH, JAVA_HOME just in case but still no luck. I have browsed the web enough, and tried all the tricks of the trade. I am using jdk1.6_02 and tomcat 5.5.25.
    Can anybody help,
    Thanks in advance!
    Codesingh!

    Okay, let's start simple: An instance of Comparable<T> can be compared to instances of T (for any type T). Lets assume Numbers were Comparable:
    class Number implements Comparable<Number> { /* ... */ }
    class Integer extends Number { /* ... */ }
    class Float extends Number { /* ... */ }This means an Integer can be compared to any Number, such as a Float or another Integer:
    Integer ten = 10;
    Integer five = 5;
    ten.compareTo(five);Now let's write a generic function that can sort lists of items that are comparable with each other:
    public static <T extends Comparable<T>> void sort(List<T> list) { /* ... */ }If you tried to pass a List<Integer> to sort, you would essentially substitute Integer for T, however Integer does not satisfy the upper bound of Comparable<Integer>. If we substitute Integer in the declaration you provided in reply 2
    public static <T extends Comparable<? super T>> void sort(List<T> list) { /* ... */ }we get an upper bound of Comparable<? super Integer>. You're free to substitute "? super Integer" with a supertype[1] of Integer, such as Number and since Integer implements Comparable<Number> the substitution is valid and the call is legal.
    Generics are all about substituting.. ;)
    To answer the question of what does T extends Comparable<? super T> mean: It means you may substitute any type U for T where U is comparable to a supertype[1] of U.
    With kind regards
    Ben
    [1] the super- and subtype relations are reflexive, in other words Integer is a supertype and a subtype of Integer.

  • Can´t get rid of annoying HP message everytime I print.

    I´m having a problem with my HP printer and Tech Support in Brazil could not solve it!
    I had to reinstall Windows on my notebook due to a hard disk crash, and I used the recovery disks provided by Dell.
    I downloaded the latest driver for my HP OfficeJet 8600Pro: “OJ8600_1315.exe”.
    Every time I print I get the pop-up window below:
    “Thank you for using original HP cartridges … Click on HP REWRDS for more information”
    I click “No, thanks, g* t* h***”
    Next time I print it shows same pop-up again.and again, and again, and again, and again, and again...
    I called tech support on +55 11 4004-7751, case is filed under Protocol 3002909186.
    The tech guy asked me to remove the driver and reinstall. I did it, and I de-selected all useless features such as TheGoogleWannabe (Bing), HP Help, HP Update, etc. - Did not solve…
    Then he asked the tech guys from “level  2” and they put the blame on Windows, because windows was not recording my “No, Thanks” option… such lousy answer!
    As stated before, I used the recovery disks from Dell, so I am using a fresh, 2 weeks old original Windows 7.
    I hope there is a better solution than downgrading the driver to a version that had no "Rewards" c**p.
    You know, sometimes good old stuff is better than the new.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    I solved it by myself! I´m so smart...
    Google-the-great found this:
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Can-t-get-rid-of-quot-Genuine-HP-C...
    In "EXBworksmart" long answer lies the solution #1: disable bidirectional communication and shut up the printer.
    Solution #2: Never buy HP again.  I lost $2500 in my HP notebook because it featured a nVidia video chip, which  on regular PCs come with a hetsink and sometimes a fan, but on my HP note it was bare naked, not a single piece of metal to spread the heat. The note had an AMD processor, it was hot, and the video chip broke the BGA solder.
    Just to finish, I bought a cheap Brother Laser printer HL-1112. No scanner, no wifi, no colors, no fax. But I can leave it off for years and it will print right away. Obviously any HP laser printer would act the same way, but why should I buy from an inferior brand that is only good at marketing?
    Brother printers do the job, the toner cartridge is separated from the drum cartridge yielding lower maintenance cost, AND NO NASTY "BROTHER REWARDS" POP-UPS!
    Now I´m going to call brazillian tech support to teach them. Wait... why bother?
    No offenseses in this mail, only the truth.

  • How can we get Apple to correct this issue?

    I have been a supporter and user of Apple since the IIe days.  I still have a G4 on my desktop that works just fine with the software that was useful for those times.  I have worked with a laptop Mac Pro since the fall of 2007 without any real major issues.  However, I am now having all types of problems with the new Maverick OS which I installed about two months ago.  In fact, I actually went to an apple support store and actually paid significant money to have them correct the problems which they said had to do with my keyboard.  I did mention that I wasn't having the problems until I installed Maverick, but they didn't mention that many people were having any problems with that OS.  I'm so used to everything working smoothly with Macs that I didn't even suspect an OS upgrade would create such havoc.  I'm very disappointed with what is happening. It all started when I received a message that some software package would no longer be supported for my Snow Leopard, and I needed to upgrade to Maverick. Since doing so, my computer has done all kinds of goofy things.  The worst issue is on startup.  My sign in screen comes up and I can't move my cursor.  If I hook up a wireless mouse, the cursor will move and I can get into the password position, but I can't get it to take a typed password or react to anything.  I finally started taking the battery out of the laptop for 30 seconds and re-installing it and that process would seem to get results, but it seems to be getting less successful. I like some of the features of the new OS, but it is giving me so much trouble with startup that I'm very frustrated. I also noticed that my power light does not stay lit when the computer is on. The battery shows a full charge, so I don't think it is a battery issue. Has anyone else had this problem.

    Given your description, at least some of the problems you're experiencing are probably due to woefully outdated software on a seven year old MBP.
    It's also possible that more memory would alleviate the symptoms, since Mavericks will run in 2 GB, but 4 GB is a more realistic minimum. You can install as much a 6 GB in your MBP, but without additional information it is impossible to conclude more RAM alone is going to solve what's wrong.
    If you don't know where to start consider running EtreCheck and posting its results as explained below. It will provide a quick summary of your system configuration, to preclude the need for a dozen time-consuming questions. None of what follows is intended to fix anything, but it will provide the additional information required to advance troubleshooting.
    There are five separate parts to it; please consider everything and reply with your results. The prerequisite (Part 0) is labeled that way because it is more important than anything else.
    Part 0
    The first task you must do is to satisfy yourself that you have adequate, reliable backups, since what you describe may presage an impending disk failure. If you value the data on your Mac, you should have backups even if everything is working normally.
    Part 1
    Boot OS X Recovery by holding ⌘ and r (two fingers) while you start your Mac. At the Mac OS X Utilities screen, select Disk Utility. Select your startup volume (usually named "Macintosh HD") and click the Repair Disk button. Describe any errors it reports in red. If Disk Utility reports "The volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" in green then you can be reasonably (though not completely) assured your hard disk is in good working order.
    When it finishes restart your Mac and test again for operation. If it's still not behaving as you expect it should, please post the results of EtreCheck in accordance with the next step.
    Part 2
    Apple Support Communities contributor etresoft wrote a very useful app to quickly gather certain system information that may help point to a cause of this problem. Read about it here. It contains a link to download EtreCheck. Don't download it from anywhere else (such as may be found by following the results of an Internet search).
    Copy and paste its output in a reply.
    Do not be concerned about anything that says "Problem" or “failed” or anything else that may appear in red.
    EtreCheck was designed to remove any personal information (such as your computer's name and serial numbers) but if you see anything that looks like an email address or any other personal information that should not be divulged to others, please delete or obscure that information when you post the reply.
    When you are finished with EtreCheck, quit the program. It occupies very little space, and you can keep it or drag it to the Trash as you wish.
    Part 3
    Please determine if the problems also occur in "Safe Mode":
    Safe Mode or "Safe Boot" is a troubleshooting mode that bypasses all third party system extensions and loads only required system components. Read about it: Starting up in Safe Mode
    You must disable FileVault before you can start your Mac in Safe Mode.
    Starting your Mac in Safe Mode will take longer than usual, graphics will not render smoothly, audio is disabled on some Macs, and some programs (iTunes for example) may not work at all.
    Merely starting your Mac in Safe Mode is not intended to resolve the problem, it's to observe its performance without certain additional components.
    To end Safe Mode restart your Mac normally. Shutdown will take longer as well.
    Part 4
    System performance problems for reasons that cannot be isolated to any other cause justify an SMC reset. Be sure to read the procedure carefully and follow all the steps exactly as written, even if they seem inapplicable or trivial.

    It's something to do with the main user account (not iTunes account) on my Mac because I logged in with another account and it downloaded fine, I installed it on the HDD and even though the date in App Store was 16th October 2014, it is the full installer of 10.10.2.
    To try to resolve this problem, I have copied the installer app elsewhere and deleted it but App Store still will not allow me to download it with my main user account yet just allowed me to update iTunes.
    I had a brainwave last night that it might have been related to me changing the default downloads folder to one not on my boot drive (to save disk space on my main boot drive) but having changed it back, tried again, rebooted and tried yet again, deleted my App Store preferences. nothing has worked.

    A google search of the problem suggested it may be an error related to the number of times I can reinstall this product due to licensing issues.
    Absolutely not. You are misinterpreting things. The activation check never happens when just running the installer, only much later. It means what it says - there is another "install" pending/ active on your system, meaning somewhere there is an (invisible) process still blocking things. Either way, since you haven't provided any real technical info, we can't advise specifically. if you are on Windows, you may want to check your task manager and terminate any setup.exe and msiexec.exe processes plus potentially may need to manually fix/ delete some registry keys. For anything beyond that you will have to be much more specific.
