Perl gives "bus error"

Any attempts to run /usr/bin/perl dies giving 'bus error'. I can't even try to use CPAN to update.
Any ideas?

All of those options produce crashes. The system.log led me to a log in my home Library. It says:

  • InDesign Server CS6 (MacOS) - JavaScripting & Troubleshooting "Bus error" or "Segmentation fault"

I'm attempting to convert a workflow from InDesign CS5.5 Desktop with AppleScript to InDesign Server CS6 with JavaScript. It seems most of our templates work fine but every now and then I run into one that seems to work properly but right after we export to PDF and JPG which is the final step in the script I get either a Bus error or a Segmentation fault error. The files do export and the console sits idle for a few seconds then I get the crash. It doesn't seem to give me anything else and I can't find a crash dump or core file anywhere on disk to examine.
The exact same input files on InDesign CS5.5 Desktop completing a very similar automation task via AppleScript work without an issue or error. I'm not certain if it's a problem with the way the InDesign files were put together, a version problem between a CS5.5 file and CS6, or something that I'm doing wrong in the script.
Is there a way to get InDesign Server to go into debug or verbose mode so that it will show more than just two word errors on crash?  I've read a few people talking here about the debug version but every path I've found to get access to the debug version runs into a roadblock with a bad link.
I would appreciate a point in the current right direction for how to debug these templates this script.

Re: verbose mode. These are not InDesign error messages. They are system errors, saying that an app (InDesign?) crashed, went away, hence could not issue any kind of message. Crash logs are the place to start. If they don't help, and the crash is outside your code, after that it's over to the maintainer (Adobe?)
Worth sharing a suitable crash log, as the list of routines active at the crash can narrow down issues.

  • Module bus errors after update

I did a system update tonight and now I've got a problem.
The upgrade seemed to go fine, I didn't notice any issues, so I upgrated my virutalbox_bin from aur as well.
    It exited with:
    FATAL: Module vboxdrv not found
    So I tried:
    sudo modprobe vboxdrv
    and got the same.
Then I rebooted and the boot messages don't look too good, can't find vboxdrv then below that a message saying Updating module dependencies..... This fails with a
    /etc/rc.d/functions line 136: 4056 Bus error
It manages to boot, and I tried running depmod manually, but I also get a bus error here.
What's going on? What should I do next?
    Thanks,
      Jeremy

I managed to insert the vboxdrv.ko using "insmod vboxdrv.ko" from /lib/modules/2.6.33-ARCH/misc.
This works, and VirtualBox correctly uses the module and runs fine.
    But, modprobe still fails.
The module is good, the path to the module looks right (matches uname -r).
I can't even find any helpful messages in /var/log/ or dmesg.
Can someone give me a pointer?
    Thanks,
      Jeremy

  • Problems with the Xserver Bus error

I think this problem started when I updated to 10.4.10, but I'm not entirely sure.
All of the sudden, I lost the Windows Login, the first problem I found was that the "crashreport" couldn't write on file and exited with signal 1 and 10.
Following up on the system.log the application crashing was Spotlight damon.
I remove it from the boot process and now it's not crashing (because is not running )
But I still cannot login, when I restart the server, the screen stays on the part where the "bar" estimate the time to boot, although some of the services are up.
    Like LDAP, AFP, DHCP, etc.
I cannot connect with the "Server Admin" remotely, although the "Workgroup Mannager" DOES connect.
I CAN login ssh, but if I try any privileged commands, like "systemsetup", "networksetup", "softwareupdate", I get "Bus error" and there's nothing I can do.
    From the system.log I get

  • SetSystemUIMode Bus Error

I have written a java program which accesses:
    SetSystemUIMode(kUIModeNormal, 0);
(through JNI) to return system settings to normal after the java program has been locked out.
When I call this function about one in ten calls it gives a Bus Error and brings down the whole program.
I would like to avoid the program being taken down.
You can reliably get this error by running the command through a for loop of about 100 loops.
Anyone know how to fix this or can think of a work around.
    Thanks for any input!

    Hi Steve,
We are also not getting that error on NT. We are not getting SIGBUS error
at particular point/place. Randomly (approx after 30 min)
the server will give this SIGBUS error & shutdowns.
I tried with -native option with JAVA VM also. Still we are getting the same
    error.
We are using ORACLE8.1.5 with Weblogic's OCI driver.
I feel this problem may be related to "jdk1.2.2_05a" on Solaris!!
Weblogic guys: Will weblogic supports jdk1.2.2_05a on Solaris?
    thanks

Ravi, I am developing on WL 4.5.1 and solaris 2.6 with SIGBUS 10 erroralso
(I also have jdk 1.2.2_05a) I do NOT think it has anything to do withthis,
java always runs with -native on, infact you cannot turn it off. I am
using HTMLkona, and getting this (from the thread dump) in
    weblogic.html.OptionElement.
Do you know where yours is coming from?
I have been hacking at this for 3 days, and have submitted to
[email protected] as well. I still cannot figure out why this happens. The
really strange thing is, it WORKS on Windows NT.
Please respond, maybe we can help each other solve this problem.
    Thanks

  • DSP 4.2.1 doesn' start. Exc_Bad_Access - Bus Error

    Hi all,
I'm having a big prblem with my copy of Dvd studio pro 4.2.1.
It doesn't start. Beging the start up process and at a certain point it crash.
Final Cut, livetype, motion and compressor works great.
The DVD Studio pro log give the Exc_Bad-Access Bus error message.
I've already formatted and reinstalled, created a new user...DSP doesn't start.
Any suggestion? Any idea is very well accepted!
    Regards

    Hi den.thed
I do have the latest version installed for AOE 3 and AOE3 Asian Dynasties.
The above error reports gives that I am running Version: 1.0.1 (1.0.1) for AOE3 Asian Dynasties and not for AOE3 which is 1.0.5.
Thank you for your input though!

  • Digikam doesn't sturt, bus error

    Hi,
I'm running kdemod 4.3, started by GDM and I've tried the digikam in the repos and digikam-beta from AUR.
With both if I first start them the wizard is shown but the application itself never. Any following start results in a "bus error". I don't know what exactly is meant by this. Dbus is running.. but I don't know how to find out if it works properly or if it is the problem.
    Can anybody help me?
    thx

    There was no problem.
Dependency tree goes like this (roughly): digikam -> kdegraphics/kdepimlibs -> kdelibs -> stuff like phonon/soprano/strigi -> qt
So for pacman, there was no qt dependency involved at all for the digikam upgrade.
Thank you, that restores my full trust in pacman (the main, but not only, reason why I prefer Arch over all that *buntu stuff out there... ). But it also means that the rolling release system adopted by Arch is prone to this kind of errors (a very fair trade, in my opinion, since pacman is easily the best package manager I've ever seen).

Agreed, seems like a PCI bus error.
Data flowing through SB4 didn't like something, so cpu11 barked out a complaint.
Perhaps it was something passing to or from your storage
or to and from the other partner pair.
Install Explorer, as per Public Infodoc 82329,
run it to gather a system configuration snapshot,
and then go open a support case with Sun.
At the very least, you'll find it was simply a result of a typo
in the modifications you were making to your configuration.
Best to let Sun Techsupport figure this out for you.

  • Mplayer and Thunderbird only outputs Bus Error

    Hi guys
I have a "small" issue. I reinstalled my Arch the other day and when I tried to start mplayer and thunderbird they both just generate an error.
    root@fredrik:/home/fredrik> mplayer
    Bus error
    root@fredrik:/home/fredrik> thunderbird
    /usr/lib/thunderbird-2.0/run-mozilla.sh: line 131:  2656 Bus error               "$prog" ${1+"$@"}
Trying to figure out what went wrong using ldd to see if there is some shared library problem does this:
    root@fredrik:/home/fredrik> ldd /usr/bin/mplayer
ldd: exited with unknown exit code (135)
    stracing mplayer gives me this
    root@fredrik:/home/fredrik> strace /usr/bin/mplayer
    execve("/usr/bin/mplayer", ["/usr/bin/mplayer"], [/* 57 vars */]) = -1 EFAULT (Bad address)
    --- SIGBUS (Bus error) @ 0 (0) ---
    +++ killed by SIGBUS +++
Does anyone know what this is? I'd rather not reinstall everything just because some lib is broken.
    ps.
just now I'm reinstalling all my "lib" packages in a hope that something just randomly broke when i installed.
       pacman -S $(for i in $(pacman -Q |grep lib|awk {'print $1'}); do echo -n "$i "; done)
    ds.
    Best regards
    Fredrik Eriksson

I had the same problem. In the same time, "/sbin/ldconfig: file /usr/lib/lib<whatever>.so.X is truncated" errors begun to appear (after pacman upgrades).
It was apparent, that some libraries were truncated (probably because of unavailable disk space during last upgrade (which I fixed with pacman -Scc and localepurge)), one of them was the same as the one appearing at almost very end of strace output, just before the failure (libmng).
Running ldconfig manually and reinstalling corresponding packages fixed the problem.

  • What will cause "bus error" ?

    Hi all,
What will cause "Bus error (core dumped)" ?
    Please give example.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
As per "/usr/include/sys/machsig.h", some of the
    reasons for SIGBUS are:
    - invalid address alignment BUS_ADRALN
    - non-existent physical address BUS_ADRERR
    - object specific hardware error BUS_OBJERR
The BUS_ADRALN is explained in detail at:
    http://access1.sun.com/cgi-bin/rinfo2html?359605.faq
    Hope this helps.

Upon upgrading iPhoto, iPhoto Help no longer works.  It gives the error message:  "The selected topic is currently unavailable. To see all iPhoto Help, you must be connected to the Internet."   I am obviously connected to the internet since you are reading this.
I tried upgrading permissions but it did not help!?  Can anyone tell me what is wrong?  Thanks

    Try
Reboot the computer, see if that fixes it.
    Then try:
Backup your files off the computer (not TimeMachine) and disconnect
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk and simply reinstalling OS X
Log in and update to 10.6.8
c boot off the 10.6 disk again and use Disk Utility >Repair Disk
reboot and all should be fine, except some third party programs that install kext files, those will have to be reinstalled from fresh sources.

  • Photoshop gives "Program Error" when I try to open files while VPN

I think this may be a new one. While VPN on my company network, Photoshop CS cannot open any files. Either drag and drop, double click or even file open command. You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though. Works fine if I'm not VPN but soon as I'm on it stops opening files or even creating a new blank canvas gives that error. I checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one. Anyone else have this happen?

    Hi, SSI.
    1. What VPN client are you using?
As a guess, your VPN client may be blocking a port that PS CS may use for license verification over the Internet. The fact that it works AOK when not using the VPN would tend to support this hypothesis. As to what port it may be attempting to use, I can't say, but you may be able to find this out from Adobe and then work with your firm's networking staff to see if this port can be opened for use when the VPN is active.
    2. You noted that you "checked Adobe forum and nothing there to find about this one." Did you post to the Adobe Photoshop forum? If not, I recommend doing so.
    3. You wrote: "You get the clock and the message "failed to open because of a Program Error.... " or something close to that. I'm sure it says Program Error though."As FYI, in cases such as this, copying down the exact text of the message is helpful.
    Good luck!
