Perpetual BSOD on Windows 7 Enterprise machine

Hello guys, I have a Dell Optiplex 780 with Windows 7 Enterprise which makes me hard days trying to get it healthy. There is a BSOD once in a while, well basically weekly if not daily and I could't get rid of it.
The Log is:

APC_INDEX_MISMATCH (1)
This is a kernel internal error. The most common reason to see this
bugcheck is when a filesystem or a driver has a mismatched number of
calls to disable and re-enable APCs. The key data item is the
Thread->CombinedApcDisable field. This consists of two separate 16-bit
fields, the SpecialApcDisable and the KernelApcDisable. A negative value
of either indicates that a driver has disabled special or normal APCs
(respectively) without re-enabling them; a positive value indicates that
a driver has enabled special or normal APCs (respectively) too many times.
Arguments:
Arg1: 0000000077a1132a, Address of system call function or worker routine
Arg2: 0000000000000000, Thread->ApcStateIndex
Arg3: 000000000000ffff, (Thread->SpecialApcDisable << 16) | Thread->KernelApcDisable
Arg4: fffff88009921c60, Call type (0 - system call, 1 - worker routine)

Any help is much appreciated!

Only one of the DMP files contained information.  It was memory related and pointed to McAfee (yours is 3+ years old)> I would remove it and use MSE in its place and if you continue to crash I would run driver verifier
McAffe often contributes to BSOD'S
I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/
These crashes were related to memory corruption (probably caused by a driver).
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.  Please run verifier  first
If you are over-clocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!
If you do not know what this means you probably are not
1-Driver verifier (for complete directions see our wiki here)
2-Memtest. (You can read more about running memtest here)

• Problem installing printer on windows 7 enterprise machine

Hi
I have HP Color LaserJet CP2025DN printer which i'm trying to install on my windows 7 machine. I have search on HP site where I was told that I can get the driver from windows update but when I run the windows update I cant seem to find cp2025dn or cp2020
printer from list.
Can someone please help me installing this printer.
When I go into my printer and device I see this icon.
My printer usb info
USB\VID_03F0&PID_5417&REV_0100

Hi,
Since all drivers in Windows update are produced from manufacturer and then after passing the Windows Logo Program testing, then they can be distribute onto update, that should be little delayed. I
suggest we download the latest driver applied to Windows 7 from manufacturer site.
Before installing the driver, is suggest you open Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features and delete the printer driver that is already installed.
I'm seeing a lot of information about the HP LaserJet CP2025dn not working properly with Windows 7.
I suggest contacting HP for the drivers support for Windows 7, or you can install the driver with Vista compatible mode for test:
1. Insert the installation media, right click on the DVD drive icon and choose Open
2. In the open folder, right click the program setup.exe file and click the Properties option.
3. Select the Compatibility tab.
4. Select the Run This Program in Compatibility Mode option.
5. From the drop-down list, choose the operating system you ran before upgrading to Vista.
6. If necessary, select the option to run the program as an administration.
7. Click OK.
Now, right click on Setup.exe and choose Run as administrator to install it again.
Furthermore, you can try to use Windows XP mode to use these printer.
Install and use Windows XP Mode in Windows 7
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/install-and-use-windows-xp-mode-in-windows-7
I also would like to suggest you contact HP directly to consult the issue. In this way, your issue can be fixed efficiently.
Hope it helps.

• Error trying to install windows enterprise 8.1 with bootcamp 5.1.2

Hi,
I have a 64 bit windows iso file for enterprise 8.1  and it is 64 bit I am running the latest bootcamp and getting the following error:
"Boot Camp only supports 64-bit Windows installation on this platform. Please use a ISO file for 64-bit Windows installation."
I'm confused bc some people on these forums are able to mount the windows enterprise OS but say not all functions are working.  I can't seem to get beyond the initial install part.
I also have an older version of bootcamp 4 and anther iso for 64bit windows 7.1 also enterprise but i'm not sure since i'm running the latest os and news MacBook Pro retina if this could cause some issues.
I need to run windows for my work and these are the only licenses they supply.
Thanks!
Aisling

not sure what enterprise 8.1 is vs windows 8.1 pro but maybe it's not supported
in which caseI would advice you to try installing it in a virtual machine like virtualbox (free) or parallels or vmware

Give this a shot at your own risk, although some people on TPF have been praising it...
http://forums.mydigitallife.info/archive/index.php/t-13124.html
The only reason why I'm saying "at your own risk" is because I haven't tested it personally, because I don't have a machine running W7 with an appropriate GPU.
Good luck.

• Apple iTunes 10.0.1 = BSOD in Windows 7

Okay! I always upgrade to the latest version of software, chiefly as a test bed for others with whom I consult. I have been running Windows 7 since it was released (well before actually ).
I have never ever had a BSOD for any reason on ANY of my Windows 7 machines. Until today. I upgraded iTunes from 10.0.68 to 10.0.1, and now, as I navigate around iTunes, I either get a program has stopped working and will be closed message, or the BSOD. The BSOD message, high flyover is the error was in Memory_Management.
Here are my computer specs:
Model: HP Pavilion DV6756
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
Memory: 3 Gigabytes
CPU: Intel Centrino
Anyone else having as much fun as I am?

I see the system has been saving memory dumps for the crashes. With any luck, if we interrogate the dump files with the 64-bit version of WinDbg, we can track down the component causing the crash.
1. Download and install the 64-bit version of Windows debugging tools from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/devtools/debugging/install64bit.mspx
2. Go to Start, All Programs, Debugging Tools For Windows, Windbg
Once you open Windbg, you will presented with a blank screen.
3. Click on "File > Symbol File Path". Here you will enter the symbols
path. Symbols are needed to effectively debug.
The path will be:
SRVc:symbolshttp://msdl.microsoft.com/download/symbols
4. Enter in this path and click OK. Now, go to "File > Save Workspace"
so that your symbols path is saved for future use.
5. Go to "File > Open Crash Dump" and load the file.
(An "Open Crash Dump" screen will appear ... navigate to C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP\, or C:\Windows\Minidump\, and doubleclick on one of the dump files there.)
If you get a dialog at this point saying you don't have permission to open the file, try this: OK out of the permission warning dialog. Right-click on the dump file (In the "Open Crash Dump" screen), and select "Properties". Click the "Security" tab. Click the "Advanced" button. Click "Continue". Check the "Include inheritable permissions from this object's parent" checkbox, and click OK. Click Yes when the Windows security box comes up. Close the "properties" screens at this point, and go back to "Open Crash Dump", and try doubleclicking on the dump file again.
You will/should get a message to save base workspace information. Choose no.
Now you will get a debugging screen. It takes a little bit to run it,
as the symbols have to be downloaded as they are needed.
After the "bugcheck analysis" part of the screen comes up, look for the component that seems to be causing the crash.
Let us know the precise name of the component. (Include any file name extensions like .dll or .sys.)
If you can, have a look at several of the dumps that seem to be associated with the BSODs. Are all the crashes being caused by the same component? If not, could you let us know the names of the various components being cited in the various crash dumps?

• WIndows Enterprise 8.1 - MDT 2013

Hi All
I'm using MDT2013 and ADK 8.1.
I am trying to create a new Windows 8.1 ent build and am having a few strange issues...
I have created a standard TS for the initial build, when I deploy the TS everything works as expected except the build doesn't seem to have all the Modern UI apps installed.  At first I assumed this may be a slight change MS made and the builtin
administrator account just doesn't have them installed anymore..  But when I create a new local user account and log in I still don't have any of the apps installed.  All that is present on the start screen is IE - Store - File explorer - Skydrive
and desktop, things like weather, news, sport and so on don't seem to be installed in the default user profile..
I manually built a machine from the media and the apps do seem to be installed.  I know during the default install the default admin account gets disabled and a new account is created.  This account does have all the apps installed, so on here
when you add a new user these apps are present..
Am I missing something here (hopefully something simple :-))? is there something specific I need to add to my unattend.xml file to allow the apps to be installed? do I need to create a new user account during the build to allow the apps to install?
I followed the same process when I created a windows 8.0 build and didn't have any of these issues.
Thanks for any advice.. Simon

I have had the same issues. We are just migrating a school to full windows enterprise 8.1 -- God Help us.
The first issues we had were related to USMT5 not beiong available. Disabling these steps from the task sequence rectified it and the build to 8.1 is now very quick. However there are no APPS such as News and many more - they're simply not present on the
machine.
We have 150 machines to automatically set running on Friday night 20th 12 -2013 .... the expectation is we can complete the whole build on Monday and Tuesday and be able to eat a Turkey the following day. I'm worried this isn't going to be the case and I'm
expecting Turkey sandwiches.
Enough laughter:
New build of MDT 2013 complete with all the latest ADKs associated with it including VAMT 3.1 (SQL) becasue that's the only quick way to licence them. (keys not compatable with older versions or even when wrapped into MDT TS).
Using a USB drive to deploy the same media results in a good install. Auto build using MDT gives you just 5 Apps.
1. IE
2. Store
3. File Explorer
4. SkyDrive
5. Desktop
That's it -- no good to me or many others on here by the looks. It would appear from reading JECOMPUTER4MEs last post that he may be onto something with the administrator accounts, however this surely can't be regarded as a good fix and it's certainly
not something my timescales allow for. In all honesty it would be quicker using USB media and then manually carrying out a domainjoin.
A few of the apps are available to pin to the start. Which is fine as we can sort this using GPO, these apps are things like Travel and Photos. However there are still a plethera of standard apps missing such as news, weather, calendar and finance to mention
a few.
Watch this space, I'm having to work for a fix as soon as possible and hope someone can post some helpful pointers into this forum soon.
Thanks
Matt

• How To Install Only DAC Client 10.1.3.4.1 on Windows Client Machine

Hi,
I want to install ONLY the DAC 10.1.3.4.1 client on my Windows client machine.
However, when I launch the Oracle Universal Installer the install options are greyed out and I'm forced to install both the Client and Server products.
I don't want to do this.
Please suggest me how do I go about this issue.
Thanks.

In version 7.9.5.1 the instructions say to:
You must satisfy the following requirements on the machine on which you want to
install an additional DAC Client:
■ JDK 1.5 or higher must be installed. For more information, see Section 4.3.4.5,
"Download and Install the Java JDK".
■ The appropriate ODBC database connection must be created on the machine. For
more information, see Section 4.3.4.3, "Create ODBC Database Connections".
■ Download the Hibernate files from the Hibernate Web site. For more information,
see Section 4.3.4.6, "Download Hibernate Libraries".
To install an additional instance of the DAC Client on Windows
1. Copy the \OracleBI\DAC\ directory and its subfolders from the Oracle BI
Applications installation (on Windows) to the target Windows machine (for
example, to a directory called \DAC\).
2. Copy the \OracleBI\dwrep\ directory and its subfolders from the Oracle BI
Applications installation (on Windows) to the target Windows machine.
Note: Alternatively, if the target machine already has Oracle Business Intelligence
Enterprise Edition installed, you can run the Oracle BI Applications installer on the
target machine to install the DAC Client. For information about how to run the Oracle
BI Applications installer, see Section 4.4, "Running the Oracle BI Applications Installer
on Windows."
I haven't attempted this with the 7.9.6 version yet. Nor have I reviewed the documentation to see if it is mentioned as an alternative.

• I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine and having issues

I am trying to remote into a Windows Server 2003 from a Windows 7 machine.  It says "The terminal server has exceeded the maximum number of allowed connections".
My first stop in trying to solve this problem was here:
howtogeek.com
And it says:

This problem happens because Windows only allows two remote terminal services connections when you are in administrative mode, and you’ve either got two people already on that server, or more likely, you’ve got a disconnected session that still thinks
it is active.
The problem with this error is that you have to actually get on the server console to fix the problem if the server isn’t in a domain. (If you are in a domain, then just open Terminal Services Manager and log off or disconnect the sessions)

So it seems to suggest that all I have to do really is to run the  Terminal Services Manager but I cannot find it.
This web site from mssqltips.com (click here) says all I need to do is first execute "mstsc /
admin" from the command line.  But, when I do that, I get a message when I try to remote to the server, that says this: "To log on to this remote console session, you must have administrative permissions on this computer".
So, what now?  What do you suggest?

Hi Bobby,
Yes, it is by design. By default, Windows Server only accepts two concurrent administrative sessions (Administrative Mode). It means that only two administrators can work on the server at
the same time.
If you would like more concurrent sessions, you need to purchase RDS CALs, install Terminal Services related server roles with proper configurations on the server.

I'm in the trial period for Creative Cloud - I have about 19 days to go on Photoshop CC on my iMac.  Can I use the same CC trial on a second machine?  Specifically on a Windows 7 machine?

Nothing personal to you or Rajshee, but this is exactly why I absolutely despise these "community forums" (not just Adobe but any company).  I called the Tech Support phone line today after digging and digging for a phone number, and they told me the exact opposite, and they did it a lot faster than it was possible to get a forum response.  (That's really not personal, because you can't control that, but it's a fact.)
Their answer: As long as I'm signed in with the same ID, I can try, say, Photoshop CC on my iMac at home and also try Acrobat Pro CC on my Windows 7 machine at work.  Same account, same login, one trial.
This makes complete sense to me as I'm financially on the hook (potentially) for the same package.  If I give away my login to someone else, which I wouldn't do, I'm still on the hook.  This is why the cloud approach to software is such genius and I applaud it.
BTW, 99% of the "community forum" wrong answers come on Microsoft sites, so don't feel bad.

After: Mac Pro upgraded to 10.6. Now the Vista machine cannot connect to any of the drive letters, nor can it open the Mac Pro by browsing -- the Mac Pro shows up, but cannot be opened. A second Windows machine also cannot open any shares on the Mac Pro.
I have checked all of the settings in Network on the Mac Pro and they look fine. Does anyone have any ideas for things to check?

I was able to see the other Windows XP computer and begin to connect. I was then presented with a login screen. I tried using the usual user name and password - no luck. I then formatted the user name as as follows:
user name: computer name\user name
password: as normal
And it worked. Specifically in my case:
user: cwy-pln2152\administrator
password: planning
This is what worked for me your mileage may vary.

• TS1363 Updated to iTunes to latest version 11.1.4.62 on my Windows 8 machine.  iTunes no longer recognizes my 5th Gen Ipod.  It does however recognize my 80gb Ipod Video.  I've uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes as directed (twice) & rebooted pc. no luck.

I just updated iTunes to the 11.1.4.62 (as the pop up directed me to) on my Windows 8 machine. As a result iTunes will no longer recognize my 5th generation Ipod Nano (yes two).   I receive a pop up saying "Ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly"   I've followed the recommendations seveal times: a) disconnected and reconnected. b) rebooted computer c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes d) tried different cables e) tried different USB porst f) rebooted Ipod.... the window keeps popping up like a middle finger (you get the point)
iTUnes WILL however,  recognize my 4th gen Nano and my 80gb Video (classic) without problem
Needless to say, I'm frustrated and ticked off over all of this wasted time.
Anyone solved this issue yet?
Any good suggestions?
Please advise
Kindest regards,

c) unistalled and reinstalled iTunes
Doublechecking. Have you also tried a complete uninstall of both iTunes and all the other related software components and then a reinstall? If not, try the instructions from the following document:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8

• Printing from Windows 8 to a shared printer on a Windows 7 machine

WE have a a user that has a laser printer on A windows 7 machine that others in the office can access EXCEPT the one person on a Windows 8 machine. We have tried everything, but cannot get her to print to this printer. Says it cannot be found. What does
Windows 8 need to see a printer on a Win 7 workstation. She does have access to network printers and her own.
Thanks.

We have the same kind of problem but a bit different.
Dell Printer (used for years shared on a network) was moved to our Windows 7 machine plugged in via USB.  We only use a plain workgroup with no Domain as we also have Macs on the network.
I have Macs using shared printer, a Windows XP using the shared printer, and even Windows 7 under Parallels on the Macs using the shared printer no problem.
I had the lone Windows 8 laptop using the shared printer but then it just stopped working.  So I deleted it and now when I try to add it is want credentials and none work.  It will not connect to the shared printer on the Windows 7 machine.
I have Windows 7 (which also has a couple shared drives that do work) set for No Homegroup and No Password for sharing - pretty much open as we are behind a Cisco Firewall to the outside.  No firewalls on the pcs.
Not sure where to go from here...

• How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?

How do I disable the hardware acceleration in Flash player on a Windows XP machine remotely?
I have a few hundred computers running Adobe Flash Player.
The operation system is Windows XP.
They are Compaq 6005 desktop PC’s, with an inbuilt ATI radeon HD 4200 video card.
We have a persistent issue where viewing a flash video (e.g. something on youtube) causes the video card driver to crash.  You are left with no video signal to the monitor.  Audio continues and the computer still responds to commands. This only happens when watching flash video.
We have tried:
Updating flash plugin (numerous versions)
Updating the video card drivers (we have tried the last three video card driver versions, including the HP drivers and ATI drivers)
Updating the browsers (this problem happens with IE8/9 and Firefox10/11/12)
There seems to be two ways to work round this issue.  One is to disable the video acceleration in the ‘troubleshoot’ section in the advanced part of the display settings area in windows.  The other way is to start a flash video, right click, go to ‘settings’ and untick the box marked ‘Enable Hardware Acceleration’.
Doing either of these things allows the user to view flash videos with no apparent issues.
Is there a way to disable the hardware acceleration in Flash without visiting the PC?  Perhaps an undocumented option in the mms.cfg file? I understand that you can use an option to skip the video card check, and so force hardware acceleration on, can you do the opposite?
Thanks in advance
Daniel.

Hi.
I have had over 200 views, and no suggestions as to how this could be fixed.
I have also posted in the general flash forum, that thread has fewer views.
If I should put this question in a different forum please let me know which one.
If what I am asking is not possible is there a mechanism for escalating this issue or requesting a feature for the next version of flash?
Thanks.
