Pgcrypto extension postgres on osx server

I would like to use the pgcryto extension on the build in postgresql server on osx server (10.9.5/server 3.2.1), but the extension is not installed:
create extension pgcrypto;
ERROR:  could not open extension control file "/Applications/Server.app/Contents/ServerRoot/usr/share/postgresql/extension/pg crypto.control": No such file or directory.
How do I get the extension for postgres 9.3?
Thanks!

  • Apache virtual host with OSX Server?

I have been running OSX Server for a while now, and just recently I decided to get McMyAdmin for my Minecraft server. The web client for McMyAdmin runs on port 8080, but I wanted it on port 80. I wanted to use it with my domain, so I just created a sub domain and pointed it to my server. The problem is that OSX Server apparently doesn't let me use port 80, even when websites are turned off. I decided to delete Server and just use plain apache. This worked until I realized that my website was only accessible locally. I have all the correct ports forwarded, etc. But I get the error:
    Response Error.
    Technical description:
502 Bad Gateway - Response Error, a bad response was received from another proxy server or the destination origin server.
when I try to connect from outside my network. This is probably just some simple thing I missed but it would be nice if someone could just point out what I did wrong here. Back to the point, I want to know how to run the proxy to my web client on port 8080 AND ALSO run OSX Server with or without apache virtualhost.
    Thanks in advance,
    Eamon

Web is stupidly easy - Apache has extensive support for multiple virtual hosts in a single server and will happily support as many domains/hostnames as you can throw at it.
Mail is a little trickier since it needs to hook into some kind of directory server to validate user addresses.
Mac OS X's Open Directory does support this, but it's a little cumbersome (basically every user has to exist in the main Open Directory domain as well as having a secondary email address(es) in the other domain(s).
This can get especially tricky when you have users with the same shortname in different domains - for example if you give [email protected] a secondary email address of [email protected] and you then get a new user [email protected], you can't give the third 'joe' the address 'joe' in Open Directory since that's already taken. This means he'll have to login using different credentials from his email address. Confused yet? You bet.
If you're prepared to eschew Open Directory you can just use Postfix's built-in support for virtual hosting, but it's a little more complex to setup and support and is entirely command-line based (i.e. there's no GUI for setting it up or supporting it).
So, for that reason you might be prepared to setup multiple virtual machines for each domain. It really depends on how much the domains are related (if at all).

  • OSX Server Hangs on Blue screen at startup

We have an Xserve Running 10.5.8.  We have been having strange issues for some weeks with client's logging in and their desktops being missing.  Last Friday I noticed that the backup was not running correctly and I had a student who had lost her work mysteriously too.  I decided to restart the server to see what would happen.  On restart I cannot log in to the server either remotely or locally because after the white apple with spinner screen the machine goes to a blue screen with no login window.  Services are up and running, I can view and use Server Admin and Workgroup Manager, and I can ssh into the server.  I have trawled the internet in search of answers but all to no avail.  There are some errors in the log but I am not familiar enough with these things to know which are significant to this problem.  To further complicate matters the OSX server disk is nowhere to be found, hasn't been seen since well before I arrived on campus.  I have ordered Snow Leopard for this machine but would like to get to the bottom of the issues.
I have booted into safe mode from ssh but this has made no change to the situation.  I am relatively new to comand line management of macs so please don't assume I know how to use it like an old pro.  I am learning rapidly.
    Thanks

  • Photoshop, OSX Server – write access was not granted

    Hello,
Photoshop CC (and prev versions) can't save/overwrite files on my OSX Server. I think this is a Photoshop issue because other apps can overwrite, such as InDesign and Microsoft Word.
Here's specifics for the error, my desktop machine with Photoshop CC installed, and server.

    1.— Try getting rid of the [illegal] period after "2" in "2.0_Mens"…  The server may be interpreting everything after the first period as the file type extension;
    2.—
This is the boilerplate text often used in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please cease and desist immediately in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files. Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/406/kb406793.html
Copy the CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work.   It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Postgres removal Mavericks Server

    Hello,
I've found many posts about seemingly odd / off postgres processes that look to be unnecessary however the posts are old (Lion).
I would like to know if there is a known method for removing these processes in Mavericks OSX Server and or if these processes are somehow instrumental to the server app. Can these processes, or postgre safely be removed and if so how.
    Sincere thanks for your help.

You might consider migrating your computing environment over to Linux or one of the BSDs here, as these fine operating systems are very specifically intended to be tailored and tweaked and updated by the end-user, and you seem to like to dig around and modify stuff and to experiment.  This experimentation is certainly a great way to learn about operating systems and their internal operations and interconnections, too.  It's also a good way to get exactly the operating system package you need — these choices are extremely flexible.
With OS X and OS X Server, removing pieces of what Apple provides — such as PostgreSQL — is generally a Bad Idea.  Such modifications with tend to derail updates, and tip over various components that are dependent on what's been removed.
The same caveat applies for deleting hidden users or files, and other such.
Adding components such as your addition of php is generally safer, so long as the components are added into the /local directories, and aren't included into the PATH of various system pieces.  Those other system components should be left using the default, installed version of php.
As Basilmir mentions, PostgreSQL is one of two databases used on OS X Server, and it's instrumental to a number of the provided services.

  • OSX Server - Databasing, world wide web access help

so i have just gotten a new mac mini server and i plan on using it to host my web server. included the actual web server a mysql server a dns server and so on but i figures it would be easyer to just buy OSX Server. well i did and i have the server up just 2 problems first there is no dadabasing server atleat that i could find and second i can only access the web site if in on a local network. now i think it may have something to do with port 80 but i dont know can someone help me thanks

    - OS X Server includes the Postgres database system. You could also install MySQL from a 3rd party (http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.6/en/macosx-installation.html)
    - Have you verified that the server is available to the outside world overall? Have you verified your DNS configuration? What type of connection do you have to the internet? Does that connection provide you with a public IP or does it use NAT?

  • OSX Server Ruby device manager hogging RAM

I am running OSX Server (10.8.4 Server 2.2.1) on an iMac 8,1 (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo 6 GB RAM). In looking at the Activity Monitor I have 13 and sometimes more "ruby _devicemgr" Processes running that use about 75 MB of RAM each. That is close to 1/6 th of my total RAM. Is this normal? Are there settings that I can use/not use to reduce these processes? Since the Tech Specs only call for 2 GB of RAM (I know it's a minimum req) it seems a bit strange that ruby should be getting so much RAM.

In case anyone else comes here looking for a solution, and the above doesn't work for them. I was trying to resolve the repeated instances of this in my log file, plus the effects of not having postgres running. I'm on OS X Lion Server, 10.7.5, on an XServe.

    sudo mv /var/pgsql /var/pgsql.OLD
    sudo -u _postgres  /usr/bin/pg_ctl initdb -D /var/pgsql
    sudo chmod 755 /var
This initialized the postgres setup and everything seems to be running happily now.

  • Fresh install Mavericks, then install OSX Server 3.1.1, it doesn't work

    Using a mac mini.
    Wiped the hard drive clean.
    Installed Mavericks.
    Created 1 user.
Right away, went to the App Store and installed OSX Server.
    Ran the Server.app.
    It said everything went ok.
    It didn't.
Trying to see what could have gone wrong. I found the /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Data is empty and the logs keep spamming how nothing can connect to the Postgre Database.
I will try to get more logs in here. However I am trying an install from the recovery partition at the moment.
Any help/insight would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,
    k.

    Forgot to update the Forum.
Latest firmware did resolve the issue !!
    Thanks & Regards.

  • Adobe CC with OSX server

We used the Adobe Creative Suite for a long time in a situation where users login through on open directory osx server.
It worked fine until we started to use Adobe Creative Cloud. We use the Enterprise version.
Computers are very slow now, especially Indesign crashes a lot and can sometimes not even be opened anymore.
Has anybody experienced the same problems?
    Regards,
    Martin

    Martin,
Have you made any progress on this issue or found out anymore about running CC in a server environment? I am researching the same thing now and can't find straight answers.
    Thanks,

  • How do I install Mavericks without invoking the OSX Server Plugin?

How do I perfrom a clean install of Mavericks from the Recovery Partition without it automatically installing, and then invoking or executing the OSX Server Plugin that ultimately results in rendering open directory operable as well as the server.  I have ignored this continously, but the other day I went into the terminal and typed ARP -s that lists the shortname for the host of my MacBook Pro and it gave a totally different name than what I had given it in the wi-fi network interface under the WINS tab. More importantly, I do not want to install open directory nor the osx server plugin as it opens up more complexity than I want to deal with.  Any suggestions is greatly appreciated.  BTW, below are the steps I performed for installing Mavericks.
    1. Powered on the MacBook Pro and then hit the Option key.
    2. This took me into the Recovery Partition, whereby I went into the Disk Util and erased or formatted the hard-drive.
    3. I then clicked out of the Disk Utility and went into the Recovery Mode by clicking on reinstall the current OS.
    4. I went through all the prompts and the system downloaded a current version of Mavericks.
    5. After completion, I turned on my Macbook Pro and went through the prompts to install Mavericks.
    6. This is all I did, and I didn't download the OSX plugin nor invoke it in the new version of the Operating System.
I just assumed that it was a standalone version until I found the server for osx running with open directory invoked, the server invoked, along
with other components relative to a new standalone version.
Again, my question is simple: How can I reinstall Mavericks without it downloading and automatically
iinvoking the components as described above?

Hi. Because both Mavericks and Windows 8 are still new, they may not be free of error. Apple needs more time to perform more tests to ensure that these two different OS's will work properly without getting in conflicts. If it's posdible, I highly recommand you to downgrade back to Lion or Mountain Lion and install Windows 7 (if you have a copy of it). In my experience, all advises from Genius Bar members and computer articles confirm that  Windows 7 will work on Macs with Lion OS. It should also work on Mountain Lion. Besides Boot Camp, you could try to virtualize Windows OS and its applications by using VirtualBox, CrossOver and other VMs. I already have an Oracle VirtualBox but I would like to try Boot Camp since it allows me to enjoy almost all Windows features that may be limited in VMs.

  • Will I have OSX Server in my App Store if I buy a "Mac Mini with OSX Server"?

I am planning on buying Mac Mini for a Home Media Server, and I am curious if the OSX Server will be added to my account. Or do you think I would better get the same system configuration without the OSX Server, then buy it from the App Store? Is there going to be a difference between the two different processes.

It won't automatically be added to your account unless you supply your account details when you buy.  But once you've received your server you can phone Apple Sales and give your details (including order number or server serial number) and they should add Server to your account for you.
What you actually get will be identical.

  • Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac work with OSX Server?

    Hi There
I wonder if I should install OSX Server on an iMac wher several users work on the same files and folders.
My question - before I do something I might regret:
Does simple file and folder sharing on an iMac within several users really work with the help of OSX Server?
All I want to be able to do:
Admin creates a new folder1 and gives it read- and write access for user1 and user2.
    User1 creates a subfolder1 in folder1, and a document1 in subfolder1.
    User2 edits document1. Later Admin edits document1.
All these simple editing of files and folders (and subfolders) within a main folder should be possible. This is not possible now.
Is everything clear? I'm not a network specialist or something, I just want to give some co-workers access to some data on my computer without problems.

So what you need are recursive permissions.
I suggest you create a group and add user1 and user2 to that group. You can name that group whatever you want, but for now i will call it FSUsers
Execute this in terminal. Replace FSUsers with your new group
    sudo chmod -R +a "FSUsers allow list,add_file,search,add_subdirectory,delete_child,readattr,writeattr,readextat tr,writeextattr,readsecurity,file_inherit,directory_inherit" /Users/Shared/*
Replace /Users/Shared with the location of your shared folder. Make sure you keep the /* at the end (this allows all subfolders and files to get the same permissions.
If you need to add people to the share just add them to the FSUsers group, the FSUsers group should should also be allowed in the sharing preferences.

  • Pop/Imap retrieving and redistribute in LAN with OsX Server

It's possible to download mail accounts hosted in my isp and redistribut'em in my lan with OsX Server with it's own mail server?
The scope is not to have a local server mail because we have ADSL and sometimes the line broke up...
We prefere have mail hosted more securely in our external isp.
But an internal mail server is a commodity very useful...
Sorry if the questions is answered before...
    Thanks in advance.

Maybe not easy but should work:

  • Using Amazon S3 as linked storage with OSX Server 10.6.7

    Hello everyone!
I will be getting a nice Mac Mini OSX Server tomorrow. I'm not new to networking and I've done over a month of reading the PDF's here that are related to the server and software. I think it's a great tool at a great price.
    My question is:
    1) Is there a way I can use the S3 Amazon Simple Storage Service as secured linked storage space or SMB to the OS X Server?
    2) Is there a way that the OSX Server software can pass both the S3 Access Key and Secret Key to S3 to securely access directories on the S3 Amazon Cloud?
I would like to use S3 Amazon Simple Storage as a secured disk space solution that would be reliable a quick. Am I asking too much?
    Thanks!
    JT

Would it be a good idea to have another computer link to the Amazon S3 then have the OSX Server link through that computer to S3?
Or would I have to create a script / CGI to authenticate to Amazon S3 to access the directories.
My goal is to use Amazon S3 as copy and playback storage.Like a hard disk connected to the OSX Server via a firewire or an Ethernet connection. Does the sound too simple? It must be possible.

  • Can I use my external hdd with OSX server

Hi i am thinking about using OSX server, but I dont have very much space on the computer I would b running it of of so I would store everything on my 4TB Wd external HDD. Is this posible, and how would I set it up to do that? Also, my external also has some backups from other computers on it and will I loose any of that? I would probably partition it so that 1TB of it has all the servers files and everything.
    Thanks,
    Ben

Yep you can use any connected drive for server storage, its under the settings tab called Service Data
No you wouldn't lose anything on the drive (assuming its Mac formatted) but clean partition would be a good idea
