Pgp disc encryption

I used to use pgp disk encryption until it didn't work anymore when Snow Leopard was released. I removed it, but now that I was trying to find out why Lion slowed down my MBP I discoverd pgp-files that might not belong to where they are.
E.g.:
HD/Library/Frameworks/PGP.framework
HD/Library/Frameworks/PGPclient.framework
HD/Library/Frameworks/PGPproxy.framework
HD/Library/Frameworks/PGPui.framework
HD/Library/Frameworks/PGPusp.framework
HD/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.pgp.framework.PGPwde.plist
Does anybody know if I can delete these files? And/or whatelse I have to do to get completely rid of pgp-leftovers?
P.S. I also found these files now:
User/Library/Preferences/com.palm.PalmDesktopInstaller.plist
User/Library/Preferences/com.palm.PalmDesktopSetup.plist
Does anybody know if I can delete them? It's been many, many years since I used a Palm...

Unfortunately there is no official uninstaller tool.
But in the meantime I found two sources how to uninstall manually:
http://kb.mit.edu/confluence/display/istcontrib/Manually+Removing+PGP+Desktop+fr om+Mac+OS+X
http://prowiki.isc.upenn.edu/wiki/Removing_PGP_Desktop_on_a_Mac
Thanks anyway!

  • Disc encryption within Finder

When I try to use the disc encryption feature in Finder for a flash drive (from the sidebar), it asks for a password which I have done.
However, this encryption method for a flash drive is not working after I put in the password - a window informing me that a 'GUID Partition Table (GPT) partitioning scheme is required' appears. I don't know what this means.
I'm trying this on a MacBook Pro (OS 10.8.2) with a SanDisk flash drive (32 GB, MacOS Extended format).
    Any help would be appreciated.

If the SanDisk was originally formatted on a PowerPC Mac, it would not be GUID, but Apple Partition map.  Usually flash drives aren't either, and are either FAT, ExFAT, or NTFS.  To learn more about each, see this tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3003
If your intent is to shuffle to a PowerPC Mac (pre-dates early 2006), then you won't be able to use the Flash drive once it is GUID or ExFAT.

  • Pgp to encrypt and decrypt files in mountain lion

i have a client that sends me files encrypted with pgp and i have to return files encrypted with pgp - what program do i need for this to work on mountain lion?

For the boot drive it's in System Preferences under Security & Privacy's FileVault tab.

  • Pgp encryption now not working after mountain lion upgrade (mac book 2009), any solutions?

I have a 2009 mac book and installed pgp whole disc encryption. I have been using since 2011. I wanted to upgrade to Mountain lion and decrypted the disc. I installed Mountain lion and now I am told that the pgp will not operate. I need a solution asap. Thanks.

Guys, thanks for the assistance. I took it to IT guys in work who recommended using filevault which I agreed. However, when the computer was to restart, the apple logo appeared and then a "prohibited" symbol accompanied by the fantastic spinning wheel of death.
Now it will not boot. I have tried entering option + R and restoring from a time machine/capsule backup. However, it will find the relevant backup (I backed the machine up prior to decrypting etc) but is stuck on "Searching for disks...".
Is my only solution to reinstall Mountain lion and then restore from a backup? Any solutions would be of great assistance. I had downloaded mountain lion from the app store. How do I reinstall the software in such circumstances?
    Thanks.

  • U310 encrypted w/ PGP WDE can't get to BIOS or boot menu

The Lenovo U310 Touch was encrypted using PGP Symantec Encryption Desktop 10.3.2. Everything seemed to work fine until I used a windows 7 repair CD to restore an older system image back to this drive.
Now when the ideapad starts up, I still get a symentec encryption username and passphrase screen. When enter in the username and passphrase, I get past it but I see Windows Boot Manager, Windows failed to start. Statux 0xc000000f and then anything that I do, I get thrown back to the PGP screen, and this error screen.
If I use Fn+f12, or Fn+f2, or Fn+f11, I again and thrown back to the PGP screen.
If I shut the system off, and start it with the novo button, I see a menu that says Normal startup, bios setup, boot menu, system recovery. All 4 options return me back to the PGP Encryption screen, and then back to Windows Failed to start.
How can I get to the BIOS, or sys recovery, or even boot from external CD drive so I can get a clean build of an OS?

Welllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llll, the thing was booting so fast I never caught the real problem.  (Almost ashamed, since I used to do this in a former life 20 years ago).  The keyboard was DOA.
I finally caught it when I quit looking at the screen trying to syncronize hitting keys.  No lights flashed on the keyboard.
Since I don't have spare anything here, I took it down to my friends office, plugged into his old (WIN  98!!) machine and got a "bad or missing keyboard" at boot.  Off to Wally World for a terrible, cheap HP KB that got it going.
Once I got everything going, I now have a new issue (hijack my own thread).  BSOD with two different errors.
Thanks to all.  It was one of those "until 4 A.M." things for me.

  • PGP whole disk encryption and Snow Leopard

I've got Leopard with PGP whole disk encryption on it but am having difficulties in installing SL as it want to wipe the HD.

    Hi Thomas
Sorry I was trying to save this as a post rather than a question but it hasn't seemed to save my edited message for some reason.
PGP for me is better in that it encrypts the whole disk rather than just the user account. Using FileValut is really unfriendly with TimeMachine, it slows the computer down and for a lot of people you can't actually activate it if you don't have enough space remaining on your HD.
PGP will encrypt your whole disk without slowing it down or taking up any additional space. It also works better than a firmware password that can be bypassed by resetting the PRAM.
The problem with PGP is that in trying to install Snow Leopard the installer doesn't recognise the boot partition even once the encryption has been removed. This causes it to prompt the user to wipe the HD. Here's the solution I found after some pain I might add:
Remove all the encryption from your HD and Time Machine.
    Back up!
Start the Terminal from the Leopard Installer (Utilities->Terminal). This has to be done from the installation disk.
    Type diskutil list
Identify your system disk. In most cases it is disk0s2
There's a volume called "Boot OSX" on the next partition, probably disk0s3. If your system is different than disk0, then use that identifier in place of disk0 for the rest of these instructions.
    Type diskutil unmountdisk disk0
Type gpt remove -i n disk0 where the n is the last number of the boot partition; for example, disk0s3 would be 3; you would type gpt remove -i 3 disk0
    Exit Terminal
P.S. if you accidentally remove the wrong partition OSX wont start up but don't worry, run disk utility from the installation disk and create a new partition and restart. All your data will still be there!

  • Can I use PGP WDE on a wireless time machine drive?

I have a new MacBook Pro with PGP WDE that has just been installed. On my old MacBook Pro I have been using Time Machine to wirelessly back up to an external hard drive attached to my airport express; so, the backups have been performed over Wi-Fi.
I want to backup the new computer with PGP WDE to an external hard drive; but, I need to have the backup be encrypted. I would like to use better encryption software on this drive than the apple provides with the "encrypted backup" option under time machine so I want PGP WDE on that drive as well.
WIll Time Machine still backup to a PGP WDE encrypted external hard drive and back up wirelessly like it does with unencrypted computers and drives?
Is their anything special that I need to do to make this work?

    With great difficulty.
Chances are, your Seagate drive was connected directly to your Mac, correct?
If yes....Time Machine stores files differently on a drive that is connected directly to a Mac compared to files that are stored on a network drive, like the Time Capsule.
Even if you get the files transferred, you should not expect backups to continue to the same file.
Time Machine will want to make a new complete backup of your Mac and then move forward from there.
Pondini has fortunately provided the forum with excellent documentation for all of this. Check out his Time Machine -- Frequently Asked Questions

  • How to encrypt data using DES in ABAP?

    Hi Experts,
I need to do encryption/decryption between ABAP and JAVA.
Is there any function in ABAP world can do the DES or any other well known symmetrical encryption?
    Thank you so much!

A lot of SAP installations use Gnu-PGP for encryption.
When you have installed GPG software on your server and created the appropriate keys, you create an external command in SAP via SM69 to execute the GPG encryption command.
Finally, create a function module that builds the encryption command line as appropriate, then calls the external command defined in SM69.
GPG is free software licensed under the GNU General Public License umbrella, so won't cost you anything. See URL [http://www.gnupg.org] for full information and software download.

  • Encrypt target file with GPG

    Hi,
I need to encrypt a target ftp file with GPG and i think  that calling an os script  (remote)  could serve.
But i dont know if that's the best solution.
There is any other way to do that?

  • PGP and SOA suite

I am installing PGP for encryption of files for B2B my question does or can SOA manage the user, key ring and Keys or do I have to do it at the OS level? IF at the OS level then the developers will have to code a Java API to use PGP command line and I will be stuck managing the User, key ring and keys. I would much rather install PGP and let the developers deal with the rest but does that work with SOA?

You can do it in Java, have a look at this...

  • Triggering encryption script with XI

    Hi,
we are implementing SAP HR -XI-file scenario but data that is coming from HR system has to be encrypted before XI place the data on file servers, not needed before entering or in XI encryption.we are using encryption script ,so basically we need to trigger the script as the last thing to do in the process,i.e;before placing the data on file system.
can we achieve this in the reciever file adapter in OSS commands?or any special things need to be made in Xi?
    thank you,
    babu

    Babu,
I dont understand your requirement fully. First of all how you are getting data into XI. You want the final output file to be encrypted. Also what kind of encryption you are trying to use like PGP etc?
    <i><b>
can we achieve this in the reciever file adapter in OSS commands?or any special things need to be made in Xi?</b></i>
You can run the OS command from the file receiver communication channel very easily. You dont need to do any changes for that. But if you are using PGP for encryption then you to install PGP on the XI box. Then only you can able to encrypt.
Please tell us the full requirement? The last option is to write an adapter module and call in you File receiver communicatin channel and it will encrypts the file.

  • SLS Mail Server with PGP/GPG

I am trying to figure out how I can setup PGP or GPG encryption for Mail on SLS 10.6.2. My goal is to serve my Blackberry PGP/GPG encrypted email. Does anyone have any advice?

This is normally done end-point to end-point (MUA at either end), not at the server itself.
Postfix is the MTA in OS X Server, and Dovecot the MDA in 10.6 Server (previously it was Cyrus).
    See http://groups.google.com/group/list.postfix.users/browse_thread/thread/bc18d0324 aa942b2
Setup your Blackberry to access your server via IMAP, for example:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10711862
But the interaction of SLS and your Blackberry is probably not going to function as you appear to imagine.

  • Unhelpful and confusing behavior by PGP

Folks, I must’ve done something stupid but I can’t work out what, yet. Or maybe it’s just a characteristic of switching machines.
I had to visit a different country on business. I wanted to transfer a large amount of data, and do it securely. I could not take my regular laptop with me but I knew I would have access to another machine on arrival. Email was out of the question because of the amount of data, and I would have access to only a dial-up connection. but I knew I could access a fast broadband connection from time to time so I chose an FTP arrangement.
At the point of origin, using a MacBook Pro driven by OSX 10.5, I used PGP to encrypt the data (using my key pair, not a “conventional encrypt”) then I placed the resulting file into a disk image and uploaded it to an FTP server.
At the destination, I used an iBook driven by OSX 10.4. I had carried my keys folder on a thumb drive and I placed it in the usual location, ~/documents/PGP. In both cases I used PGP version 9.91
When I downloaded the disk image and opened it, the next step would logically be to double-click the file and be presented with a dialog asking me to enter my passphrase. However, what I got was a dialog “Please enter the passphrase for the file “xxx.pgp” then a window saying “1 unknown key(s)” then “it is not possible to decrypt this message because your keyring does not contain any usable private key(s) corresponding to any of the above public key(s).”
    Help please.

Hi grhakl, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Don't know much about it, but is it possible the Rights & Privileges are for the other User on those files/Keys?
Do a Get Info on it/them.
