Photo album questions

Hi, I have put several hours into trying to solve these
problems myself, but I am stuck. The page in question is:
http://www.georgeglazer.com/maps/newyorkmaps/hydeli/hydeliinv.html
1. Detailregion area does not display when page opens. It's
just a skinny gray box on the right. Once you click a thumbnail,
however, it displays fine, and will display all the images as you
click on them. Thinking maybe the non-working slide show buttons
were the problem, I tried replacing the <div id="controls">
area with the identical one from another page I have that works
just fine:
Why does THIS work:
http://www.georgeglazer.com/prints/aanda/fashion/kuhninv/kuhninv.html
BUT NOT THIS:
http://www.georgeglazer.com/maps/newyorkmaps/hydeli/hydeliinvquicktest.html
I've made several pages like hydeliinvquicktest.html that all
function properly, so I'm baffled.
2. How do I get a simple slide show going?
The Spry Photo Album Demo shows how powerful Spry can be, but
I don't need all that complexity, and I'm having trouble narrowing
it down to what I need -- no multiple databases, no growing and
shrinking thumbnails. All I want is to be able to put a bunch of
images and one XML dataset in a folder and have the ability to have
people click on "Previous," "Next," or "Play/Pause" in addition to
being able to click on a specific image.
One of the problems with the demo for me is the dataset names
used in the demo get confusing -- I'm having trouble following the
distinction between and relationship between when you use
dsGallery, dsGalleries, dsPhotos, and photo, not to mention, why it
is ultimately unnecessary to make any reference to "china" and and
the other folder names. And since I know next to nothing about
Javascript, I can't figure out what substitutions to make to the
gallery.js code, which is designed to work with these multiple
databases, and also can't figure out which pieces I need and
whether the pieces I don't need would get in the way if I left them
in the js doc or if everything extraneous has to be eliminated.
3. One of the problems with implementing more Spry pages is
the tedious work involved to make a little thumbnail for every
single image in a set, and then make sure they're all exactly the
same size, which is what I've done so far. I have figured out what
to do when the main image size varies, and Spry handles that well.
But here are my problems:
a. What if the thumbnails vary in size? For instance, this
hydeliinv.html page has four maps that are part of a set, but are
all different proportions, and four details I'd like to show that
represent what they look like close up, all of which are in
different proportions as well.
b. And can I have Spry call on the same image file and
display that full size for the main image, and reduced for the
thumbnail?
You'll see right now in
http://www.georgeglazer.com/maps/newyorkmaps/hydeli/hydeliinv.html
I've set the height and width in the spry: repeat tag for the
thumbnails to 100px. I tried just setting the height to that, and
width to auto; I tried just setting the height to that, and
omitting the width. In both cases, no thumbnails display at all. I
see in the Spry Photo Album Demo the use of "path" designations in
photos.xml. Could I do something with an XML doc that looks like
this to address both (a) and (b)?:
<hydeli>
<inv_item id="1">
<title>First Map</title>
<dimensions1>36.5 x 34 inches</dimensions1>
<dimensions2>37.5 x 36.25 inches</dimensions2>
<photo
path="hydeli1.jpg" width="390" height="400"
thumbpath="hydeli1.jpg" thumbwidth="98"
thumbheight="100">
</photo>
</inv_item>
<inv_item id="2">
<title>Second Map</title>
<dimensions1>36.5 x 34 inches</dimensions1>
<dimensions2>37.5 x 36.25 inches</dimensions2>
<photo
path="hydeli2.jpg" width="379" height="400"
thumbpath="hydeli2.jpg" thumbwidth="95"
thumbheight="100">
</photo>
</inv_item>
</hydeli>
I tried to figure this out, too, but to no avail.
Thanks for any help you can give me!

I understand the challenge and worked out some answers that
support our photo gallery for the ski club. I wanted something
simple that would support a gallery of up to 100 pictures reliably.
Also, I wanted it to extract information from the image metadata
such as names or descriptions.
The image processing is done using photoshop macros which
create the appropriate sized image and thumbnail.
After trial and error I realized current CSS technology is
NOT capable of vast quantities of demands from more than 20
thumbnails. That's when I settled on hard formatting the thumbnails
png files with a nice black border. The thumbnails load up quite
nicely with NO style formatting. I used PNG files for the
transparency support.
The XML data is created using a program I wrote to parse the
metadata from the image files. Now that all the photoshop macros
and the XML parser is written, I can load up a large gallery in
less than thirty minutes. (Not including photo editing.)
Hope this helps.

  • IPhoto Albums converted to Photos Albums Question

    Still confused about Albums after conversion in Photos. If there is a logical explanation, please share,
    I see all my Albums from iPhoto including the Events folder in Photos, but the most recent Album created in iPhoto now has 654 items vs the Album in iPhoto that has 489. It seems all/most of the pictures from the related Events were sorted into this Photos Album although they are also showing in Events.
    The Album version saved as a Slideshow in iPhoto is exactly the same as in iPhoto though.
    Does anyone know what could be going on here?

    I went into the photo section and backed up all of the photos by coping them to the EHD. My question is that I deleted the photos I no longer wanted in iphoto because they are now on the EHD.
    The key to answering is how did you "back up all of the photos" - did you drag the iPhoto library to the EHD or exactly how did you copy all of the photos?
    If I were to back up again the same way, wouldn't I lose the photos that I deleted because it would copy over the iphoto library?
    That depends on the answer to the questions above
    Maybe it would create a iphoto2 library??
    If you copied the library by dragging it then you would need to use a new name for each new copy
    Is there someway to easily take the events and make them into folders so that you can just move stuff around freely??
    select the photos in an event and export them to a folder with the same name - file menu ==> export

  • I tried restoring deleted photos, now my i photo albums are showing blank spaces with question marks on where there should be photos!!

    Can someone help me! I tried restoring deleted photos using time machine...I know I shouldn't have fiddled! When i went back to my i photo albums some of the photos had disappeared and in the space was a grey square with a question mark in. The photo still shows in the top area but i can't put it into a space. I have i photo 08. I don't know if it is an i photo album problem or I have in some way corrupted some of my photos. When i right click on the question mark the photo appears and I can drag back to the top area, it just won't show up in the album. Any suggestions? Thanks

    Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In Library Manager it's the FIle -> Rebuild command)
    This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
    Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
    To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
    Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
    In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
    Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
    Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
    Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
    When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
    In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • HT4236 Question about photo albums

    My i-tunes library on my laptop won't allow me to sync up my phone as there isn't enough storage space.  However, I cannot delete particular photo albums directly on my phone, it isn't an option, but  cannot deselect certain albums without syncing it.  Help someone???!!!!

    Given the cost of this large-format printer and the cost of operating it
    http://www.amazon.com/o/ASIN/B0011G47PQ/
    I'd suggest that you get an inexpensive Brother laser printer for regular printing -- often these can be found on sale for $50.
    Or if you need color in regular printing, get a cheap inkjet printer.
    Personally, I wouldn't use the R1900 for anything other than what it was designed for, exceptional photo printing.
    The only argument I can muster for using the R1900 as a dual-purpose printer is that Epsons tend to clog, if not used regularly -- like on a weekly basis.

  • Question about the Canon 8400F and scanning large photo albums

    Hi,
    Besides scanning negatives, slides, and individual photos, I will be visiting one of my relatives who is the "keeper" of some big family photo albums. If I recall correctly, the albums are pretty large and there are quite a few pictures on each page. I think (?) the pictures are permanently on the pages. Will this be a problems scanning the pictures in?
    I think the albums are about the width of a full size keyboard and about twice the heigth.
    Any help here would be appreciated. I do hope the pages can be individually removed one at a time from the album, but I do think that the pictures are permanently attached to the pages.
    Thank you very much
    Also, how good is the instruction booklet that comes with the scanner?
    Thanks again

    Will this be a problems scanning the pictures in?<<<</div>
    Your only problem will be in positioning the album on the scanner. The included CanoScan software allows you to scan in multiple photos and the software automatically separates them.

  • Supuid Question: How do you make a new Photo Album on iPhone 3g?

    How do you make a new Photo Album on iPhone 3g?
    When I press photos, it just goes to a screen with Camera Roll and no other buttons to press.
    I have read one article that states to click the "Add" button, but I don't see an Add button or a + button.
    Thanks in advance...

    Thanks for the response.
    So, is there no quick way to put the Camera Roll pictures into an album?
    It seems I have to click on those, send to Mobile Me, then download to my computer and put in the folders I am syncing.
    Not every intuitive at all.
    Thanks again.

  • How can I remove my iCloud Photo Albums from my iPhone 6 storage, but still use the iCloud Photo Sharing?

    I put all my photos from my iPod Touch 4 and my iPhone 4S in iCloud Photo Albums and Labeled them so that when I got the new iPhone 6 on iOS 8.1.2 I could have my previous photos on there for future use. Now I look on my iTunes app on my computer it shows that my storage on my iPhone 6 is almost full. Those Photos in iCloud are taking up all my storage on my iPhone. I know how to add more storage on my iCloud account, I just want to know Is there a way where my iCloud Photo Albums can still be in my iCloud Account, just not taking up all my storage on my iPhone.

    Hello mushysun,
    Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    If you did not sign out of your Apple ID on your iPhone before creating a new one, then you will need to sign back in with your previous Apple ID and then sign out.  If you do not remember your password and do not have access to the email account, then you can reset your password by using the security questions.

    Trying to scan photos from my photo album to a folder on my desktop.  Have been trying to figure out for hours.  Seems very complicated and cumbersome.  Can anyone help?  It's got to be much quicker (fewer key strokes) and simpler than what I've been able to discover.

    Open the file, parse it, populate an ArrayCollection or XMLListCollection, and make the collection the DataGrid dataProvider:

  • How to improve performance of photo albums and navigation?

    I just uploaded the latest version of my new website (www.raydunakin.com) last night. I've made a lot of changes in an effort to make it load faster and work more smoothly. There is some improvement but on my Mac, with dialup, there are still some issues.
    One big issue is photo albums. I don't understand why they load so slowly, when it's only loading thumbnail images. The thumbnails are too small to account for the excessive load time. Often there are several that don't load up all until sometime after I click the browser's Stop button.
    Which is another issue: Why does it keep loading stuff after I've clicked Stop?
    I've stripped my albums down to just 15 images per album, so the number of images shouldn't be a problem.
    BTW, I gave up on using the "My Albums" template, which was impossibly slow. Instead I just have a page with a list of links to each album.
    I'm wondering if having everything all in one site might be causing some of the speed problems. Would I be better off moving my photo album pages to a separate site and just link to them from the main site?
    One more question: Many of my hypertext links are not displaying correctly. They are supposed to all be underlined and in a different color from the plain text. Some of them do show up this way, but some look like plain text until you move the cursor over them. (And yes, I have used the Inspector to set the format for all the links.)
    Also, if anyone would like to browse my site and suggest other ways to improve or streamline it, I would appreciate it.
    Thanks in advance for any help or comments you can provide.
    I'm running OS X 10.4.10, Safari 2.0.4, and iWeb 2.0.3

    To me it's not taking all that much time... It's quite normal if you're publishing to .Mac... The .Mac server is quite slow, that's a known issue... Partially it may also be due to the template used but I don't think so... There aren't a lot of graphics on that one...
    Often there are several that don't load up all until sometime after I click the browser's Stop button.

    I didn't came across any that didn't load and when I hit stop it stops.

    No that's not the issue. The site size doesn't matter as when you look at a page the browser only retrieves the information about that very page and doesn't even see all the other pages as it follows the links to retrieve the parts of that very page and that's it. What matters is the page size but it isn't heavy at all in your case...
    One more question: Many of my hypertext links are not displaying correctly. They are supposed to all be underlined and in a different color from the plain text. Some of them do show up this way, but some look like plain text until you move the cursor over them. (And yes, I have used the Inspector to set the format for all the links.)
    You may try a "Publish all" from the File menu for that... Or empty the cache of your browser...
    Also, if anyone would like to browse my site and suggest other ways to improve or streamline it, I would appreciate it.
    I like it it's very clean and easy to navigate.
    One other problem with the photo albums that I forgot to mention... When clicking on a thumbnail to view the larger image, while the image loads it looks like nothing is happening. There's no evidence that the image is loading or anything. So by the time the larger image appears, I've already attempted to move on. Is there anything that can be done about this?
    It takes a second to load but in the end it does load... To me it's the server's slowness even if not publishing to .mac...

But when I click on edit on the blank picture, it comes up and I am able to save it back on my photo album as a proper image. Besides, I have also experiences the camera working a bit wiered (slow and often blanks out the moment I am ready to take a photo). Any help on this pls?

    Hi Noob Søren
    There are a few things that are confusing in your question.
    As far as I know, you dont have to install Time Machine on this OS as it is already installed for you. You only need to connect a hard drive to your computer via firewire or usb, click on the Time Machine icon, Open Time Machine Preference in the drop down menu and select a disk: your connected hard drive.
    You can of course reformat this connected device, partition it into a few volumes to organise data if you so wish.
    I find it strange that your mac's hard drive is divided into two volumes... perhaps this was created through bootcamp?
    You can access the configuration of your hd through Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.
    Clicking on one of the icons on the right hand panel will bring the details of the contents of your hardDrive and volumes. From there you can decide to erase a partition, reformat etc....
    If your hd contains more than one volume, and one of them is empty, you could decide to remove it. Back up all your important data before doing so.
    Hope this helps

  • Is there a way to transfer all of my photos in my iPhone's Photo Albums and Events to my new macbook?

    My MacBook's hardrive failed. My only backup for iPhoto is on my iPhone. I bought a new MacBook Pro and I'd like to restore all the Photo Albums and Events from my iPhone. Is there a 3rd party app that is capable of this?
    I downloaded iMacsoft to transfer music, books, etc. But it will only transfer photos in my iPhone's Camera Roll.

    Are these photos on your iPhone?  Can you actually see them?  If so, then iCloud should see them as well.  All else fails, plug in the iPhone via a USB cable into the new Mac and iPhoto will launch showing you what photos you can import in.
    Again, the old photos in question MUST be on the iPhone (i.e. you at one time sync'd your entire photo library to your iPhone, which to my knowledge also makes it available to the iCloud backup if you have enough room).
    No, it is not easy to get synced photos back to the Mac. An iCloud backup does not include the synced photos nor the Photo Stream photos. See:
    iCloud: Backup and restore overview
    One way to save the synced photos back to the Mac is to save them to the Camera Roll. This requires extra space on the device and much tapping, because it is not easy to save all photos at once to the Camera Roll. It would be easier with iPhoto iOS. Here you can share the the synced photos to iTunes and then save them using iTunes photo sharing on your Mac. In iPhoto you can select ranges of photos to share - much less tapping required.  See:  http://help.apple.com/iphoto/iphone/2.0/#blnk7d8f763e
    Use your photos in any app by saving them to the Camera Roll.
    Import photos directly into iPhoto or Aperture on your computer.
    Save photos to your computer using iTunes.
    Save photos to your computer using iTunes
    Connect your iOS device to your computer.
    Tap a photo, album, event, web journal, or slideshow and tap > iTunes.
    Tap Selected, or change the photos you want to save (if you are saving a slideshow skip to step 4):
    Select different photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap one or more photos, and tap Next.
    Select a range of photos: Tap Choose Photos, tap Range, tap the first and last photos in the range, and tap Next.
    Select all the photos in an album or event: Tap All.
    In iTunes, click the button for your device and click Apps at the top of the window.
    Below File Sharing, select iPhoto (in Apps).
    Select the Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents.
    Click Save To and select the location on your computer where you want to save the items.
    To view your photos, go to the Finder and look in the location you selected above.

  • Picture won't show up in my Photo Album; big white blank rectangle space

    There is a picture of Sammy Lee, the Olympic Gold Medalist diver, that refuses to show up in one of my Photo Albums on Safari.
    I have done everything that everyone has taught me. I have cleared the cache many times. I have clicked onto a site ourside my own site (actually Allyson's site about the tips for iWeb). I have published all to .Mac. The photo still shows up as a white rectangular space.
    It is not like other times when a photo doesn't show up, because in those cases, there is a question mark in a blue box. With this case, there is no question mark inside a blue box. There is only a white space where the picture would be/was.
    I even went back to iPhoto and put in another copy of that picture, all to no avail.
    QUESTION:
    What else can I do to make the picture show up on my Photo Album page?
    — Lorna in Southern California

    I think it could be the comma causing the problem, actually. Here is a line from the slideshow.html file
    new SlideImage('http://web.mac.com/lorna6/iWeb/Lorna%20x%203/395844EC-4CEE-4545-8AD 3-7E66F83391ECfiles/W%3ASammy%20Lee,%20swimmer2.jpg', 321, 450, 'With Sammy Lee, Olympic champion diver & Gold Medalist. He went on to coach Greg Louganis. At L.A.U.S.D., Office of Bilingual Instruction (It no longer goes by that name.) Mid-80’s'),
    The colon has transferred ok, but there are a lot of commas used in the code to call up the photos in the slideshow and the comma in the file name (and, possibly, the caption) could be causing some problems.
    I don't know enough about this to know for sure (need to consult a higher source...), but it sure couldn't hurt removing it to see if it helps.

  • How do you get your photos in to different photo albums?

    How do you get your photos into different photo albums on a i phone 4

    If you are willing to manage your photos in iPhoto and transfer the albums you create in iPhoto to your iPhone (using iTunes), I think you will find that an easy solution is available.
    In iPhoto, locate the image that you want to insert into an album (or albums); for example, you may locate the image in an event, or it may be in one or more "Faces" categories, or it may already be in an album, etc. Then, drag the image into any album. Repeat to insert the image into other albums.
    I may have misunderstood your question, or the above may not provide what you're looking for, so post again if need be.

  • Need help editing scanned images of old photo album pages PSE 9

    Before I begin this project, I thought I'd get some advice from someone who has undertaken a similar project.  I have three photo albums from the 50's and 60's.  The albums were made by my mother who mounted the photos (mostly black and white but some color photos) on construction paper (of various colors) using the corner holders or glue.  She hand cut the construction paper so each page is not a perfect rectangle ( about 11" tall, 8.5" wide).  The pages were punched and put into a three-ring binder.
    She added text to the edge of the photo and/or to the construction paper.  Each page contains one to 6 photos and text.  Each album has about 120 pages.  I want to keep the notes on the construction paper so I scanned each page into a TIF files, 400 dpi and stored the images in a separate folder for each volume.
    I use (poorly) PSE 9.  I see it has a auto straighten/crop feature that can be used one photo at a time.  I tried the divide scanned images function and that did not fully separate all images on the page and also created an image for stray objects on the page such as an unused corner holder.  (I know those things have a better name but it escapes me now.)
    I plan to create photo books for my siblings.  I am now thinking of cropping the image of each page (rather than each photo on the page) into a uniform size, adjusting levels, contrast and sharpness, saving this image to a JPEG file, and using these edited JPEG images to create the photo book.  Since each page was hand-cut, there will areas of white where one page was torn or cut smaller than another page.  Some pages will have blanks where old photos have been lost leaving behind only the corner things.  It won't be perfect but it will be an image of the album as it exists today.
    My questions are:
    The pages are about 11 by 8.5.  Does anyone know a photo service that prints photo albums in a portrait layout in this size?  I  have been unable to find one; it looks like most online photo books are wider rather than taller.
    Let's assume I use a company such as Shutterfly that offers a 12x12 format.  I assume it would be better to edit the images in PSE9 rather than any online software.  What should I do to keep the proportions in the current images true but make the image fit a 12x12 page, for example?
    IS there any other editing software anyone can recommend that will speed this up, hopefully a software that would take multiple photos at one time, auto-straighten and auto crop to a set size?  And also auto contrast/level/sharp.  If I could use such auto features on these images and then go back and adjust the photos that did not play well with the auto features, that would save me time.
    I appreciate anyone's input.  I dread doing this but we have one set of photos and 5 siblings so it has to be done.  Thanks!

    Hi,
    Mentioning your issues one by one:
    1) PSE does not have any portrait Photobook available, so your thought was the best way to get the work done is by choosing the 12x12 - shutterfly one.
    2) PSe does a good job of editing the images. You can set your images of approx. 11x8  size to fit to the 12x12 page. Just choose a one photo page Layout for the page and then right click on the image to " Fit photo in the frame".
    3) If more edits are required for the image, you can easily go to Advanced mode and edit your photos, layouts, move the frames, images or add effects to the images.
    4) Photo book creation sure takes time. because, you want it to be the best. I am sure PSE would help you best here.
    Go ahead and create you photobook. Inc ase you get stuck somewhere, you can always post here to get help!
    Cheers,
    Swarnima

  • How to create new photo albums

    i've had my iphone 4 for about a week now...and i'm new to this discussion board so i apologize if this topic has been discussed before.
    i have looked at everything i possibly can on my phone and in the users manual. i can't figure out how to create a new photo album!
    help!!!

    thanks for your reply!
    i actually just did that, shortly after i posted my question, i thought i would try it while waiting for a response.
    i sync'ed the photos to my computer. created my folders and put those pictures in them. then resync'ed my phone in itunes and chose the various folders to sync. but the "folders" did not sync back to my phone. everything is still in 'camera roll'.
    i just want the pics in folders on my phone so i can find pictures easier!
    why are there all those spaces under camera roll if it won't let u have more than one folder!? i'm so frustrated! do i have to purchase iphoto or something?
