Photos App and Wallpaper Problems in iOS8

I'm a fan of photos of Apple because of its retina display (I'm using an iPod touch 5th Gen 32gb)... it gives my images the best quality and real sharpness of every image. But when I updated to iOS8. I found some tiny problems.. well it is tiny, but for a Multimedia artist like me.. its a very BIG DEAL.
The Photos App:
Whenever I open up some of my photography in the Photos app, it loses it's sharpness. it is not that sharp, and to sharpen it.. i had to zoom in and zoom out.  Unlike in the older versions of iOS, the photos (in any given resolution) will be automatically sharp when I slide through my images. In iOS8, it simply don't and it is really frustrating. Try it yourself to see the difference.
note: my photography is straight from my DSLR camera then I just put it in my iPod. You may suggest to resize it, yeah I do, but in iOS7 the sharpness is really good.
Changing my wallpaper:
I always make my own high quality wallpaper through my photography and my works. And my wallpaper always looked very sharp and great. I haven't changed my wallpaper since I updated to iOS8, last night I created a new wallpaper (in Photoshop) and when I changed it to my iPod... the quality is just not that good. (Problem is similar to the Photos app) The sharpness is just not there. I can't appreciate my "Retina" display anymore.
Hope you guys hear this out and fix it.
P.S. in iOS7 I do the similar stuff and it works just fine, in iOS8 it really doesn't and it is really irritating.

  • Photo app and camera problems.

Since upgrading my iphone 3Gs to iOS 5, photos are very blurry and save on top of each other, and the camera app crashes. Ive restored it twice to no avail. Any idea whats going on?

Don't know exactly what's going on.  However, when you restored your device, did you restore from backup, or as NEW?  If you've been restoring from backup, you're restoring corrupted software over and over.  You need to restore your phone as a NEW device and set it up from scratch.

Try a reset by pressing and holding the home and power buttons for 15-20 seconds until the white Apple logo appears.

To add to Nick's comments, "Other" is typically approximately 1 gigabyte.  Occasionally for some users, it gets much (many times) bigger because they have some corrupt files.  If that's the case, it's best to restore the iPhone.
Plug the iPhone into (current) iTunes, let it sync, then choose "Restore" on the right.  If restoring from the iPhone backup does not help, then restore (again) as new and then manaully sync the iPhone.

  • Will the new photos app and icloud photos library support all formats of pics and videos from my iphoto library?

I will be migrating my whole 200gb iPhoto library 9.5.1 mavericks over to Yosemite iPhoto 9.6.1 and then migrate to the new photos app and hopefully to the icloud.photos online. Does this all support all of my formats such as AVI videos in my iPhoto library. I don't want to lose those through migration.

I have this 31% issue too - when I attempt to update my iPhoto library to the new Photo app.
I have a few libraries - one on my mac, and two on a NAS. I access the NAS via wifi.
The mac based library did update, but the two network albums have yet to be successfully migrated over to Photo.
    It's driving me insane!!!

  • TouchSmart Photo App and Support for PNG files?

Please, somebody tell me that I'm crazy and that the TouchSmart Photo app really can be made to support PNG file types! If not, who designed this software!? Can't browse the network for content stored on an HP MediaSmart Server. Can't view PNG files in the Photo application. What else can't this software do!?

    Hi ChrisT,
Thanks for the suggestion. I went to:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4148...
Which is the software update page for my model. I see 10 items under Software Solutions, 8 of which are just video tutorial updates, not actual application updates (and none of those are for the Photo App). The two application updates are:
HP TouchSmart Recipe Box Application Update
    HP Support Assistant Application Update
So, are you saying that PNG file types are supported in some versions of the Photo App and I don't have the correct version? Or in other words, what am I missing?
    Cheers,
    D

  • HT4236 So if I update my iphone, I will lose all of my photos, apps and music on my phone?

So if i update my iphone, I will lose all of my photos, apps and music..correct? None of these things are saved on my computer [except some of the music]...

You should be importing all pics taken with the iphone to your computer regularly as you would any digital camera.  this is covered in the manual.
iOS: Importing personal photos and videos from iOS devices to your computer
You should transfer all itunes purchases from the iphone to the computer:  File>Transfer Purchases.

  • IOS8 camera roll - apps and wallpaper

How do i change my wallpaper and add photos into apps now that it only allows recent photos??...without the pain of having to create albums first?

Thanks but unfortunately this just means duplicating photos and taking up space i dont have. I have the my roll app, which is much nicer than apples own since they changed it but it cant be used for other apps or wallpaper. Seems apple didnt think this through...hoping they change this immediately

  • Can someone explain the difference between photos app and iphoto for iphone?

I recently downloaded the iphoto app to my iPhone 4s. I am hoping to clear up some space on my iphone and I deleted some pics from what I thought was the camera roll within iphoto. I noticed later that while attempting to change my wallpaper, I noticed that pics I thought I deleted were still on the phone as evidenced by their availability to be used as wallpaper. I checked that I had selected cameral roll and not photostream, where it would make sense the photos would still be there. When I left settings I noticed that I have iphoto and the phots app on my iphone. Do I need both? And if i want to delete photos, do I need to delete photos from the cameral roll within iphoto AND the photos app???? I really need someone to make sense of all this photo business!

The "Photos" application is built into the phone and is meant only for viewing and making small edits (crop, auto-enhance, etc.) to photos in your Camera Roll and other photos synced onto your phone via iTunes.
iPhoto for iOS is a new application which is meant to allow you to organize your photos, share them via sideshows or "journals" and make mode substantial edits (contrast, brightness, sharpness, photo effects, etc.)
Keep in mind that iPhoto or any other app from the App Store does not have the ability to delete photos from your Camera Roll. What you did is probably hit the x icon which hides the photo from your iPhoto library but it remains in your Camera Roll. To delete photos, they must be deleted from the Photos app. Oce they are deleted from your Camera Roll they will no longer show up in iPhoto.

  • Tap picture in Photos App and rotate - issue / Pls help

    Hello all,
    Subject: iPhone 3Gs / 4.0.1
Application: Photos App (default Apple application)
Issue: tapping landscape pictures with phone in vertical position and rotate them goes on black screen
    Description:
I am with iphone in normal (vertical position) and i go to photos app in order to scroll some pictures that were taken in landscape position.
Everything is normal. I double tap it in order to zoom it.
I rotate the phone in landscape position and the screen goes BLACK.
I rotate it in portrait mode and picture is back on screen.
Question: where is the problem ?
    Tests results:
I tried to make several tests to identify the problem.
Before I want to say that i tried restore / reset / etc.
    1. The pictures that are taken in portrait mode are not affected on double tap and rotate thing.
    2. Works if you zoom manualy (not by double tap) and scroll to a corner of a landscape picture before you rotate the phone.
I add that any other application works fine on rotate / zoom / etc even photos app works OK if i dont double tap the picture before i rotate it.
Still after the tests i am not able to identify where is the problem so i ask the comunity if can help me to identify it.
    thx in advance,

Is anyone with same model 3gs / 4.0.1 who can check if have same problem ?
    Are only 4 steps:
    1. Open Photo App with phone in vertical position
    2. Select a landscape picture
    3. Double tape it (will zoom automaticaly)
    4. Rotate the phone in landscape position and write down the results.
    thx guys for your help,

  • How do I delete the Photos App and go back to original

I did not back-up before updating, my bad. Can I simply delete Photos ??. Really think the new Photos app is about ten steps backwards, I tried to EDIT a photo and was sorely disappointed. Any help is appreciated.

The problem is Photos migrates your iPhoto Library file to a file name of Photos Library.photoslibrary. However, it saves this migrated version as iPhoto Library.migratedphotolibrary. So, you can open this file with iPhoto and you will receive a warning that tells you adding photos or editing will not be seen in Photo.  And it will change the name of the file to iPhoto Library.photoslibrary. No big deal since you won't use Photo. You can also duplicate that file and rename it back to iPhoto Library, open it with iPhoto and do the Repair when promoted.
Just keep Photo around in your /Applications folder and use iPhoto again.

  • Capabilities of Photos App and Aperture

I see a lot of discussion about the new Photos app as being a replacement for Aperture, but most of these discussions seem to ignore many of the key capabilities which make Aperture important to many professionals. And the idea that many of these have been removed but will reappear sometime in the future is ridiculous--nobody could run a business using a tool like that. Are you supposed to go out of business until the time in the future when Apple reintroduces the feature you depended on?
I'm also a little skeptical about how "modern" the app is and what a "streamlined interface" it has if it lacks many key features that already existed in the present software and which professional photographers and heavy Aperture users counted on. It's easy to "streamline" an interface if you just remove functionality. What many of the "reviewers" do not seem to understand is that it could take a year of more of heavy work to reconstruct an existing Aperture library with all that it contains because it is not just a hierarchical collection of pictures with keywords.
If you've been looking at Photos, maybe you can fill in some of the gaps in knowledge of features.
--Will Photos retain the edits of Photos in an Aperture library? Pros may have tens of thousands of photos (or more) with edits done over the past 8 years. Suggesting all of these need to be redone is kind of ridiculous. And why would any photographer ever trust an Apple product again if a corporate move resulted in that!
--If some "tools" are missing, then all of them might as well be missing as far as importing an Aperture library since you wouldn't really know which of your tens of thousands of pictures which had been edited were affected. You couldn't trust the "versions" in your library as some would be missing some of the edits. Is there a list of which "tools" are missing? Almost all of them are pretty heavily used by large numbers of people.
--I hear that the "Curves" tool is missing. What? This is one of the most heavily used tools of all, and one that was added to Aperture because of popular demand. What happens to all the edits done with the Curves tool? Do they disappear, making the library of edits useless? What possible reason would there be for removing something that important?
--Does Photos feature a Web journal which allows collections of photos to be output as Web pages to be shared with clients or others?
--Can I exports groups of files in any size and format (RAW, jpeg, TIFF, PNG., etc.)? You have to be able to do this for the product to be of any use to a professional at all.
--Can I take advantage of multiple monitors to do things like show sets of photos and controls on one monitor and a full-screen image on the other?
--I've hear the flags feature is gone. Why? What happens to all the images I've flagged through the years for one reason or another? Are pros supposed to go through 100,000 images they have stored in their library and flag them all again?
--I've heard that "Stacks" is missing. For professional sports photographers, that is essential. You take bursts of images, you want them stacked on import so it's easy to pick the best from a burst and quickly get rid of the best. Why on earth would this be removed? It was one of the key selling points in early Aperture marketing and a heavily used feature.
--Does the new app show the focus points, hot and cold areas, etc. on the pictures if so desired?
--What happens to books, smart albums, Web journals, projects, folder, albums, etc. One heck of a lot of time has gone in to creating all of these.
--Can I search using any metadata, keyword, etc.?
--Can I customize my display to see the metadata I want in a particular situation. I certainly don't want to see all of it, but there are key fields which may be especially important.
--How long would it take to "import" an Aperture library of, say, 500 gigabytes, into Photos? Would this would require another storage medium to store the new library as well as the old? I'm a little wary here, as the Aperture to Aperture 3 upgrade took 24 hours or more for many people.
--Is iCloud storage of photos really practical for professionals who may have libraries of a terabyte or more? How exactly would all of this information migrate into the cloud? Who's got the bandwith for that?
Anyone who could do a proper comparison of Aperture and Photos, from the perspective of a sophisticated Aperture, and not just gush about how it's an improvement on iPhoto, would be much appreciated. I haven't been able to figure much out from what I've seen so far.

The app is in beta and we're not allowed comment. That's standard policy. What you can glean from reading around the web is the same that we can. My read on what I've seen: It's a step-up for iPhoto uses but for Pro users it's time to look elsewhere. It's not a robust Pro tool.

  • Photos app and Calendar not working correctly since upgrade.

I was trying to insert a photo into a Word document. When I go to the finder the photos app is grey. I cannot chose it or find my pics. Why? I tried dragging and dropping. That doesn't work either.
My calendar has been working fine since I upgraded, until today. I powered on today and my calendar is blank. I have TONS of stuff saved on there. I have gone through the preferences and checked all settings, everything looks fine. I even re-entered things just to let it refresh, to no avail. Any suggestions.
I am on a Macbook Pro (early 2013).l
    Thank you

Do you have a backup? If so, try this for Calendar.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library/Calendars and restore from the backup.
