Photoshop CS3 Extended crashes on MacBookPro
I'm working on a MacBookPro Intel Core 2 Duo 4GB RAM OSX 10.5.2 Eng
The software is Photoshop Extended 10.0.1 and a Creative Suite 3 standard is also installed (Photshop is not installed because I've already had the extended version, both english versions)
Photoshop crashes very often and it doesn't save in psd file format. In that case the message is 'Could not save 'xxx' because there are too many files open. Try closing some windows and try again.'
When I choose New Document an error appear 'Can't read the document presets file.
When I choose a new Workspace the error is ' The command "Select" is not currently available'
Can't work!...any suggestions?

Some followup thoughts...
25GB scratch disk is quite small. RAM may not have changed, but it's possible it's not seated correctly or that it is not working properly.
Booting off your System disk's Disk Utility and then booting off the DiskWarrior disk and running repairs should be standard/routine maintenance, and should be run anytime your system is not "quite right". And they should be run immediately before any system or application updates. And then repeat Disk Utility right after.
Most of us cannot read crash logs.

My CS3 Extended has just started to exhibit this crash on exit error: "This application has encountered an error and needs to close". It ran perfectly until about 1 week ago and I am wondering if it has anything to do with the latest Windows XP update to the Microsoft.NET Framework 3 as this is the only update I ran after returning from a weeks holiday.

You're crashing in Mac OS code as it tries to draw icons in the dialog.
It looks very similar to some known bugs in MacOS (GetSrcBits and PlotIconRef), both involving the Carbon APIs - which means that Apple won't be fixing them. (of course, you're on 10.5.8, which Apple definitely won't be fixing)
We don't know the cause of those crashes, or how to avoid them (and couldn't code around them because they are part of Apple's open/save dialog code).
Sorry I don't have better news.

Photoshop CS3 Extended Crash on Startup

It crashes before it even finished loading. I haven't even gotten the program to work once. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Still no luck. By the way I have no printer, and I'm using Vista 64.

Hey Guys I recently just installed that stupid Dell Printer temporarily to print something once when I stated having the same problem. I have since then removed the printer and uninstalled it. It is not longer listed as being installed on my computer, is there a chance some of its files remain? I have also been looking for the Twain plug-in but can't seem to find this. Can someone help. I feel like I am so close to getting my Photoshop fixed!
I had the same problem. I attempted to uninstall the printer, but it was not listed in programs to uninstall. So I went to printers and deleted it. Still, Photoshop would not finish loading. Stopped when it was Building Twain..." Once I renamed the "Twain_32" file by placing a twill in front of it so the file name was "~Twain_32" without the quotes of course, Photoshop now loads and works fine. you should be able to find the Twain_32 file by going to: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS3\Plug-Ins\Import-Export\Twain32

Photoshop CS3 Extended crashes when using Black and White or photomerge

Photoshop crashes when I go to adjustment > Black and White also crashes on Photomerge.
Running 10.4.11 have uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times. Runs fine on old HD only different program is Office 2008.
Have 3 gigs of ram and 500 gig HD . G5 1.6 GHz

I did reset to factory settings no change. I also ran Repair Permission. I didn't run it before I
installed but it was a new system on a new 500 gig HD. I have over 200 gig of free space and 100 gig on other HD. 2 gigs of Ram for Photoshop. Tried both as scratch disk same problem. Photoshop crashes with both Photomerge and Black and White.
Don't have the latest version of Disk Warrior so haven't tried that.
This problem doesn't happen when I reboot to other HD same programs except for Office 2008 could that be the conflict?

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Trial

Hi guys, I've recently downloaded Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. When I select the trial period for 30 days instead of buying the product, it says that Adobe cannot continue and it's having trouble loading the trial. I reinstalled it and restarted my computer, like it said, and nothing worked. Please help, I cannot afford Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended right now, and I do not support piracy at all.

I've tried to install the program from a different directory, I think my windows installer is crashing every time i try to install it, maybe I find a working hotfix for it.
I followed these steps when i tried to install ps:

I had to re install Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extend but now every time I try to start it, it errors out withe the following:
"Could not load the user measurement data point presets file because the file name was not valid."
and "Could not load the user measurement scale presets file because the file name was not valid."

Bridge not functioning in PhotoShop CS3 Extended

I deactivated Photoshop CS3 on a computer I was no longer using and installed it (CS3) another computer. I activiated CS3 on the new computer. However, when trying to use Bridge, I get a message that says that Adobe no longer supports Bridge Home and Bridge does not function on the new computer. Is there anything I can do to get Bridge to function as part of CS3 Extended?

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended on Windows XP Professional

Topic: Selecting
I have been using Photoshop Elements 4 until I just purchased Photoshop CS3 Extended. In Photoshop Elements 4 there is a selection brush, enabling you to make pixel by pixel selection (if desired). There seems to be NO counterpart in CS3 - - which seems impossible for so powerful a program. In that most of my work involves selecting very precise points of 1 or 2 pixels, how can this be done?

Thanks so much for responding . . but, unfortunately does NOT work again! I did exactly as you suggested in that I made a selection fir so that I could get a quick mask. When I double-clicked on quick mask in the tools pallet, NO options appear that say "Paint on selections" nor "paint on mask". The options is get are "Color indicates Mask Area or Selected area" and you have to chose one. The only thing you are actually choosing is whether you want the color to appear on the mask you chose or inversely to appear on the remainder of the object. The "black" brush remains the same and does not change.
If I do not learn how to make minute selections (so that I will be able to act on only tiny tiny areas) I will not be able to use this program after spending a million dollars for it. It looks like Adobe could make something so fundamental (available in Elements) available here.
Could you help me further . . . PLEASE !

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended Activation Problem

Hi all, hoping someone can help me.
I have a legitimate hard copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended which was only recently taken out of its sealed package.
On installing and trying to activate I get an error. Now i am left with a window telling me "Registration Unsuccessful"
Any ideas how i can go about solving this? I legally own this copy and I need to use it and can't do with it deactivating.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended freezes on startup under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit - No splash screen

I installed my licensed copy of Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended today as part of my install a bunch of software after a reinstall of Windows (due to viruses). I did a completely fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I've used Photoshop CS3 Extended for quite a while now so I know what to expect on startup but it was previously installed under Windows XP Professional (32-bit). Figured I would give Windows 7 a chance this time around.
Google searches aren't turning up anything. When I attempt to start the application, I get a window with the title "Adobe Photoshop CS3" (no "Extended" - I seem to recall the title changes later) and the toolbar appears. However, no splash screen appears and no Product Activation wizard appears - the application simply freezes on an empty frame and a toolbar. I've tried running Photoshop as Administrator (right-click, "Run As Administrator"), but nothing changed there. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. I tried upgrading to CS3 10.0.1. Nothing works. The application simply freezes before it gets anywhere.
I tried calling Adobe Support since this technically falls under installation issues but their phone support systems are down today. Go figure.
Edit: I hooked into Photoshop with the Visual Studio debugger and every single thread is executing some variation of WaitForSingleObject() or WaitForMultipleObjects(). The main thread is "executing" somewhere in AdobeLM_libFNP.dll (at address 09619d81 - if I had debugging symbols for CS3, I could provide a function). There are nine threads "running" at the point the freeze occurs - but all of them are technically suspended due to the functions they are executing - and one thread is in a suspended state.

And, according to the Event Viewer, the "Binary" data translates to a zero-terminated Unicode string of "Cross-thread".
My Visual Studio analysis was far more informative. All threads are hung inside of WaitForSingleObject() and WaitForMultipleObjects() calls and the DLL in question appears to be FlexNet-related. I did forget to mention that I also even manually started the FlexNet service in case, for some strange reason, Photoshop was waiting for it to start. That also did not work.
(And there is nothing in the Action Center control panel either despite the message saying there might be more information there.)
Edit: The timestamp above might be a little odd-looking. I didn't originally see anything in Event Viewer until I clicked the first button to send an Error Report. Mostly I just skipped that part of killing a process.

Problem Reading Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended In Windows

I have Windows 7 and Photoshop CS3 Extended; can't read .psd file; error says not a supported file type; need to work with layers. When installed, received a Successful message upon installation. A solution to reading .psd files in Windows?

Thanks to both of you for responding. The files I am referring to are loaded to my C drive from ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3 "CLASSROOM IN A BOOK" tutorial. On the cover, it says "The official training workbook from Adobe Systems". I don't know what to do at this point. I'm ok with Html. Just need photoshop knowledge added and understand usde of .psd files provides a means to work with layering. Any suggestions?

Error "Licensing for this product has stopped working" when starting Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended- XP Pro AMD; 2GB RAM

I have exhausted all known options thus far.
I started the Flexnet Licensing Service and restarted the system but the message continues to come up when lanching PS CS3 extended
After restarting computer the Flexnet Licensing Service stops again and goes into Manual mode. This also happens after a few minutes without restarting.
I also downloaded the Flexnet Licensing Recovery Kit from Adobe Support but the file stops after saying "please wait for a few moments.. ?"
I changed the setting as discribed for the Flexnt folder but the message continues to come up when PS Extended CS3 is launced.

I downloaded the clean Script file and followed the instructions from what the Clean Script read Me file described. The first step said to deactivate. Although I was not able to deactivate because of my original message, I followed the remaining steps.
After using the Clean Script and uninstalling Photoshop CS3 Extended and re-installing it I re-booted my computer. I also deleted the CS3 Application data files.
When I installed PS CS3 Extended the installer does not ask for the serial number on all attemps. I bought a registered copy of PS CS3 Extended. Is there another way to approch this licensing error.

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended installed but not working

Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended was added to my computer when I bought it in Thailand.
Now (I am no longer in Thailand) I want to use it but I can't seem to open/do anything.
Even when asking for help with the 'Help' button it states that "There was an error in initializing the Adobe Help application. You may need to re-install the applicaiton and the Help componen".
How do I do this? Or am I missing something?

Haha... I like the honesty!
I was in bad need for a computer and went to one of those fancy, big shopping malls recommended to me by a couple of friends. I didn't even know I had Adobe Photoshop until today. I am not sure I really got screwed or things just work differently. The computer is a little strange... (I can write in Thai สกร่ฟส กส่ฟกส า่ฟส ่ if I would like to) but so far it's ben okay.
Anyways, what would you suggest I do Mylenium?
