PHP Development in Mac OS X

I am looking for software to create PHP website's, i've heard about BBEdit but i don't know if it is the best or someting. Can someone give me any advice on this topic ?
Greetz,
Matija.

Hello ThaDude,
welcome to the OS X Developer's forums.
Indeed, OS X is one of the best environments for PHP Development. There a variety of tools and each one is best suited for the kind of developer you are and for what you are looking for.
I would say that BBEdit is best suited for someone who wants to do some quick PHP editing and not so much of a huge development.
If you want something for heavy-duty professional PHP development, I suggest you have a look at PHP Eclipse here:
http://www.phpeclipse.de/
I use it a lot and by far is one of the best PHP Development environment around.
On the other hand, if you are looking for a tool you would like to pay for, I suggest you have a look at Macromedia Dreamweaver MX on http://www.macromedia.com/dreamweaver.

  • SQL Developer with Mac Os X 1.3.9

    Greetings,
I am running Oracle Database 10g Release 1 (10.1.0.3) on my Powerbook G4 1 GHz with 768 MB ram. After reading the requirements for SQL developer for OS X, I thought I would try to install it. Unfortunately there seems to be a conflict in the requirements for installing SQL developer.
    "Operating System
Apple Mac OS X Version 10.3
    CPU Type and Speed
    Dual 1.25 GHz G4/G5 (1 GHz G4 minimum)
    Memory
    256 MB RAM
    Display
    "Thousands" of colors
    Hard Drive Space

    Sun J2SE 1.5 release 1, available at ...
    " from http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/html/B28240_02/install.htm#CIHDJBJG
The J2SE 1.5 release is currently only available for OS X 10.4 and higher, so apparently you need this os version to run SQL developer. Is this correct? Is there a SQL Developer version that will run on OSX 10.3 that is running the J2SE 1.4.2 release?

Sorry the subject heading should read:

  • Import tnsnams.ora in SQL developer on Mac OS

Hi, I am moving from PC to Mac and am installing SQL developer on Mac OS. I want to import tnsnames.ora ( that I used in toad ) to SQL developer. I looked it up and everyone seems to say drop tnsnames.ora to /etc, sql developer will pick it up. However I don't have root access to /etc directory.
What can I do to import tnsnames.ora
    Thanks!

You can put tnsnames anywhere you like and specify it via the TNS_ADMIN environment variable (though the next problem you will have is ensuring that the SQL Developer process can see that variable). The standard location is in network/admin under your Oracle Client installation. The reference to '/etc' is to do with database servers. You can put your own files in /etc if you want using sudo (it's your Mac), but I'm pretty sure that would not help here.
However it's news to me that SQL Developer can even use TNS name resolution. I thought it was all JDBC. Are you sure?

  • Double click to open .sql files with sql developer on mac osx

    hi,
I am trying to double click a .sql file and open it with SQL Developer on Mac OSX lion. I have associated .sql files to SQL Developer. On clicking the file it opens the SQL developer application but does not open the actual .sql file. Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Hello,
Did you find any solution to your problem ? My SQL Developer worked fine and could open additional SQL files. Now it only opens the first one when starting SQL Developer. Additionnal files cannot be opened. Even running sqldeveloper.exe from command line with a SQL file as parameter doesn't help.
I'm on Windows 7, 64 bit, but the environment may not necessarily be the cause.

  • Best Practical JSP Book for PHP developer

    Hi Friends,
I am new to JSP and want learn basics of JSP so that I can do simple web page works.
I am a PHP developer with one and half years of experience.
Can anybody tell me what is the best JSP book for beginners or any web link with lots of simple jsp example?
    --Sujoy

Before you learn JSP, you need to learn Java. I heard 'Head First in Java' is a good book. Install Eclipse IDE (its free) and work through some of the book's examples in it (as you read the book from cover to cover). Then Install Tomcat (its free) and the tomcat plugin for Eclipse (its free). Then read a book on JSP (cover to cover). I like the book 'JSP in action'. It covers both JSP and servlets. Then, create a hello world JSP in Eclipse, then a hello world servlet in Eclipse.

    Hi All,
I am presently working in PHP Development technologies & Web services.
Now i want learn some related area in SAP which relates to PHP Development.
Can anybody sujjest any technology in SAP which will be suitable for me to get started and will have good future!
    Thanks,
    Deep.

    Hi,
maybe start with <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e9/bb153aab4a0c0ee10000000a114084/frameset.htm">BSP (Business Server Pages)</a>, go through the <a href="https://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/BSP">Wiki</a>. This should give you enough information for a start. Once you got a grip on BSP, try to expand your knowledge to MVC development, which is the foundation for Web Dynpro ABAP, the future standard UI technology.
Good luck with your SAP start!

  • SQL Developer for Mac Fails to Launch 2.1.0.63.73

It is disappointing that 2.1 RC1 fails to launch on PPC Macs and particularly aggravating that there is no indication on the download page or in the release notes this was only built for Intel Macs. Or does
"...launcher.sh: line 774: /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home/bin/java: *Bad* *CPU* *type* *in* *executable*
Error: SQL Developer can't recognize the JDK version" mean something else?
Is there any compelling reason that SQL Developer for Mac cannot be compiled as a UB?
    Chuck

I just tried to run 2.1 on my PPC running 10.4.11 from sqldeveloper-2.1.0.63.73-macosx.tar.tar on the 2.1 downloads page.
On double-clicking SQLDeveloper.app a bash process starts and uses all the CPU. The icon bounces in the taskbar for about a minute. There's nothing else visible.
info.plist says it is version 1.1!
I was using the previous release, so before I installed I copied the app and ~/.SQLdeveloper so I could restore it if the update failed.
Should I have deleted ~/.SQLdeveloper? I can't see any upgrade notes.
I remember with previous updates there was a way to keep the connections, what was it?
To move the sqlconnections.xml out of .sqldeveloper before installing the new version then move it back?
Later - the console has lots of aqua errors. I guess that means it needs Tiger or SnowLeopard?

  • Quick Question... About SQL Developer for MAC - MAC Users please help.

Hello everyone, I hope that someone out there can tell me that I am not crazy.
I have installed SQL Developer for Mac OSX to access a MS-SQL database, and perform simple query operations. For the most part, I have been thrilled to have a Mac version of software that's fully featured.
    Details on my current setup:
    SQL Developer
    Version 2.1.1.64
    Build MAIN-64.45
    Mac OSX V10.6.3
    JTDS-1.2.5 JDBC driver
Database connection is SQL Server 2005
Anyway, my problem is this... I cannot locate the Query Builder function within this software. I have found the tutorials on how to use it, and it would appear to be located when you right-click the SQL worksheet to open the context menu. This option is not present in my software, and I need to figure out why. This screenshot is what I see when I right-click.
Does anyone know if this is related to MS-SQL-2005?
    http://img10.imageshack.us/img10/1195/screenshot20100523at102.png
Any assistance you could provide would be AWESOME! Thank you!
    Edited by: user13118614 on May 23, 2010 3:05 PM

First of all you need an active connection in the worksheet (upper right drop-down).
But even then it might not work. Sorry you were "thrilled to have a Mac version of software that's fully featured", because even if it is, MsSQL isn't. The tool is mainly focussed in providing a migration platform to Oracle, so a lot of the cool stuff is Oracle only.

I have apache on my mac. I normally use PHP but for a web project.
    I need the JSP server.
Can I install the JSP Server on my mac along with the Apache server. This is only for development.
I have got Zend Framework for PHP running on my mac so I don't want to mess up too much for this test.
Thanks for any advice or any pages anywhere to help but I can install from a tar file if there isn't too much configuration.
    TIA.

    Hi,
If you need to install a full development environment with Tomcat in Mac OSX take a look at my tutorial at http://jmaw.blogspot.com.es/2012/08/minimo-entorno-de-desarrollo-java-mac.html. The blog has translation if you need it.
I hope I can help. Also you can. Install both servers taking care of the ports, usually Tomcat listens requests by the port 8080 while Apache server listens requests by the default http port 80.
    Best regards,
    Jmaw

  • Got lost on Setting up a PHP development environment for Dreamweaver

I am following Dave Powers article on building a dynamic website. I am using Mac 10.6.7 and Dreamweaver CS5. I have downloaded Dave's example file and tried putting it on the desktop that didn't work. Next I tried dragging it into the website folder. That didn't work. Then I tried putting the php_test file into MAMP/hedocs and that didn't work. Where should the file go? I got to 2 green lights on the MAMP and can open the start page. The next step was to put in the time code which I did. It looks fine in design but when I click on "live view" it wants me to save the file. I save it as a php on my desktop. It then tells me I havn't specified a testing server. I have tried several ways of setting up the testing server. I set up the file name as :Local Testing---connect using: Local/Network---for the sever folder I have tried /Applications/MAMP/htdocs/php_test  with web url: http://localhost/php_test/ . And I have tried it with: /Users/checkout/Desktop/php_test.  Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    She

Don't have the pro version? That's unfortunate. catch-22 for you... can't get any $$ to buy tools for web development until you start getting $$ developing websites and can't develop websites until you get $$ to buy tools for web development.
You have no doubt learned by now through searching (and REsearching) that virtual host is a MAMP Pro feature. If you're too cheap/poor/whatever to afford $59 for MAMP Pro (but you somehow managed to afford the high price of Dreamweaver) then put your site files in MAMP's host location: Applications/MAMP/htdocs
You said in OP that you did something like that... that you put php_test file (presumably php_test.php with contents unknown to forum readers) in the MAMP directory and could not load the page by visiting http://localhost/php_test
That is probably because you did not specify the file extension in the localhost URL like this: http://localhost/php_test.php
How about this... what exact tutorial are you following (provide a URL) and what exact step in the tutorial are you having trouble with? Or try this: instead of php_test use index.php in htdocs directory. For contents of index.php put <?php phpinfo(); ?> then visit http://localhost and see what happens.

  • Php on a mac?

I would like to learn php and am working on a mac. A couple
    of years ago
I attempted to install a php invironment on my computer and
    got into
some real problems with my OS in the process.
I think I want to try again and am wondering what steps I
    should take
and any other advise anyone would like to share! I am still
    on a
mactintosh and am on OS X 10.4.
    Any advice is highly appreciated!!!
    Thanks,
    Brian

Thank you all three of you for helping me!!!
David, so what you are suggesting, sounds like, I think
    pretty much what
I tried to do the last time, and I am a bit scared it will
    lead down a
similar road of hours of frustration...?
I am a complete newby to mySQL, php, and all that comes with
    it. Do you
think the preinstalled version might be enough for me, since
    I don't
know that much and will not do any hardcore stuff anyway?
    What should I do?
BTW - I bought your book yesterday. Waiting for it to get
    here...
    Thanks a lot!
    Brian

  • Mono Developer for mac

    hi guys
new to the forum, ive had my mac for a few months now so i'm still pretty new to everything.
my question is based on mono developer. i want to be able to develop using languages such as php, asp, asp.net, c sharp etc... with windows the user can do so using visual studios but i dont know what the best one is for os x. ive come across mono developer but i'm confused as to how to run it ... ive used fink but cnat seem to compile anything - having no luck what so ever! im so new to all this! can someone point me in the right direction??
do i compile using terminal?? any help would be great.... i wana set this all up before uni, i dont want to use a pc again!!
    help!!
    intel imac 20"   Mac OS X (10.4)

I've managed to build MonoDevelop onto my Mac, but I took it off again. While it has some nice features that I would really like to use (I used c# a lot on my old PC and at work and I miss the code completion, knowledge of the .NET framework and the ability to use the visual layout tools for the controls in Xcode to develop .NET-related apps) I found that it was too buggy to be useful for me. Also, the control layout features were GTK# oriented rather than SWF.
I ended up using Parallels with Visual Studio - mainly because I needed the cross-platform applications I could create (the developed SWF-based apps work nicely under Mono).
Having said all that, there are some instructions (http://www.monodevelop.com/RunningOnOSX) that I followed, and yes, it does require a lot of downloading and building packages via the terminal. Fink helps with a lot of these, but the package versions available under Fink are not always up-to-date enough, and I ended up doing something like (and this is from memory): installing the Fink Mono package so that it also brought up many of the other packages MonoDevelop needed, removing Mono from Fink, installing the latest Mono from the Novell distribution .dmg, adding the remaining packages myself and then installing MonoDevelop.
    Hope this helps...
    Susan

  • How do i install php on my mac pro os x lion

I want to install php on my macbook pro that currently runs os x lion.

It is built-in to every web browser.   Look in your browser preference to make sure it is turned on, and make sure you are using the most current version of the browser.   Mind you some scripts depend on Microsoft's ActiveX, which is not supported by Mac OS X.  For those, see this tip:
