PHP Service Call

Question

Hi, I am new to Flash Builder and am having trouble with getting a result from a service call. I am unsure as to the correct syntax to reference the value returned from my PHP class or if I should be listening for something before I try to reference it.
private function login(event:LoginEvents):void
                checkUserResult.token = usersService.checkUser(event.customEvProperty[0],event.customEvProperty[1])
                Alert.show("User "+checkUserResult.lastResult);
                currentState = "MainState";
The PHP class returns a String and when I use Test Operation in Flash Builder it returns the value I expect. When I run the project however I get an undefined value. As I want the result to use within my code and not hooked up to visual element I am unsure as to how to go about it as all the examples seem to populate UI components on creationComplete or similar.

Ok, I figured it out. Needed to add a listener for the ResultEvent.RESULT and then I could use the returned value. Code below, if anyone knows a better way to do it I am always open to suggestions;
